callout guy: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Salla's second: 1d2 ⇒ 1

At Tarmin's threat and the pounding of feet, some of the enemy look around, but before they can do anything, a cloud of arrows falls among them. One swordsman gasps and falls to the ground, clutching his unwounded chest, but expiring nonetheless. Others shout in confusion and fear, raising their arms and shields against the flight of phantasmal arrows. One of the spearmen in the second rank, bracing for an impact that never comes, looks in bewilderment at his unwounded arm. He calls out They're not... before two arrows, one from each of the real elves, strike him down. Sallandrya downs another spearman whose eyes go wide at the realization that Gnobby's "army" isn't what it seems. However, a third guard manages to duck and call out "The elves aren't real! Don't believe your eyes!"

Though most clearly don't believe him, they raise their weapons. The swordsmen and remaining spearman do not move forward, flailing uselessly at the "wolves," but a hail of crossbow bolts reach out in return.

Sallandrya deftly sidestep bolts aimed at them, while several others fall amongst the phantasmal ranks of elves, striking some and causing them to vanish. One bolt whizzes by Sir Galavaine's head, while Andre parries a second with his shield. A third catches the cleric high on his shoulder, eliciting a grunt, but not doing much damage. 2 hitpoints

Two more figures step from behind the right wall. One looses an arrow from a longbow at one of the "elves," grinning wickedly. The second is a handsome human male with long blond hair, clad in black, holding a staff and a golden eye, which he holds out in front of him. Pettry softly begins chanting to Sallandrya and Tarmin's rear, in counterpoint to a low voice coming from the armor clad priest presenting himself to them. The priest finishes chanting and lowers his finger at the young magic user, who falls immediately silent Silence, 15' radius. Pettry saved, but the effect covers the red circle) "Lloth, the sacrifice in your name shall be great this day!"

Gnobby, just FYI the area of effect for the illusionist version of Phantasmal forces is 40'+10 as opposed to 80+10 for the MU version. The cleric is the pawn on the far left of the third rank, the bowman is on the far left of the second rank.

Sallandrya is granted entry to the tower, and Rufus and Burne listen intently to her recounting of the events. The two share a few worried looks, and Burne agrees to send two riders to carry her letter at first light.

1d20 ⇒ 16

Rufus chuckles when Sallandrya challenges him. "I don't think you want to try this. Unfortunately, I have nothing like that to offer you should you win, however, in that unlikely event, you can brag that you bested me, I surely won't contradict it."

The fighter and Salla pull up chairs at a small table and lock hands. Burne grins as he counts down from three. At one, Rufus strains and rocks Sallandrya's arm towards the tabletop, but only briefly before the smaller woman slams his hand down on the table. Rufus sits there dumbfounded, staring open mouthed at the priestess. Burne laughs heartily, and finally gets control of himself enough to speak. "Never have I seen you rendered speechless so deftly. Go get her a few of those arrows we've been saving.

Rufus disappears up the ramp to one of the towers upper levels and returns bearing two arrows. They are finely crafted and tingle to Sallandrya's touch. "Use these carefully. They will pierce almost any armor, but are useful but once." With that, the two lords bid Sallandrya goodnight, Burne still smiling at the turn of events.

The group at the inn enjoy a pleasant evening, filled with ale, wine, and pie. Ostler Gundigoot seems appalled by the appetites of the two smallfolk, but he continues to provide the food, grinning to himself when the group cannot see. Pettry is obviously relieved to see his friends again.

At the end of the night, the group returns to their rooms. In the morning, Andre makes his way to the church to pray. One of the acolytes he spoke to on his first visit speaks to him briefly about what they found. When Andre mentions the eye symbol on the capes they found, the acolyte closes his eyes in thought. "Lloth. Be careful."

Andre, you're at 2789xp, so you will level up. I just went through the whole adventure and really enjoyed every page. You guys have been great so far.

I also owe you some additional xp for the stuff you found in the first two rooms on this level. Too tired to total it up now, but it will be coming shortly.

Edit: 125 more xp.

The captive brigand immediately shakes his head. "I don't need no time to consider. I'd rather face a rope than what be roaming down there. If you'd seen the thing, you would too. Besides, I ain't never been down there to be able to show you anyhow. The only one that ever went was Torm," He states, indicating the corpse of the sword wielder Sir Galavaine had charged.

I've mostly been playing/making PFS characters recently, so I use 20 point buys mostly. However, when I run games, I typically do 4d6, drop the lowest. If I plan on running something particularly challenging, I'll roll 1 or 2d6 and give each player that number of "bonus" points to up stats with, to a max of 18 before racial bonuses.

I've played under some strange stat generation methods though. One DM I had had us do 3d4+6. Oddest concept was 1d4+1d20 (yes, you read that right) +1. Let me tell you, there are fewer things as fun as a 2nd edition bladesinger with strength and dex of 24 at 1st level...Of course, every one of his encounters was ridiculously deadly.
