I don't think Pettry should disappear, I rather like him and its good to have a full Wizard in the party and it gives you as the DM a voice as well.
Suggestion:
In our table top games if there is an DM/NPC who is a member of the party he/she gets some of the treasure but the XP is divided only among the full PCs and the DM NPC levels up only when the last/slowest (XP wise) PC levels up (which will work here because Pettry is a Wizard). Maybe he can level up with our Paladin?
Also two quick questions before combat:
In OSIRIC -
Do spell casters (Wizard, Clerics and Illusionist) lose thier spells if brought to negative hit points?
Also if a PC goes into the negatives (crossing my fingers this won't happen) can they no longer come back into combat even after being healed? What is the time necessary time for the PC to be active again? I know 1st Ed was very hard on downed PCs.
In our 2 Ed home game we have this home rule:
Spoiler:
For every negative hit point there is 10% chance of losing ALL the memorized spells, less the PCs prime attribute in percentile.
For example:
Wizard with 18 INT is brought to -4 HP. That would be 40% chance to lose all remaining spells for the day less 18% for hight INT which is 22% chance to lose all his spells. If in the next round he is not stabilized and the Wizard is at -5, he will then have a 32% chance of losing all his spells. On the 3rd round and still bleeding the Wizard, now at -6 has a 60% chance less 18% of losing his spells for a 42% chance of losing memorized spells. And so on.
In regards to reviving fallen PCs, for every negative hit point, the PC needs a full minute of rest to recover before coming back to his/her senses. So at -4 HP, a revived PC needs 4 full minutes of non combat or active movement/exertion.
I think the above is less of a drain on the PCs, still keeping to the older edition feel, and were just possible suggestions.
I think I am missing a post, I rolled a search roll and it was not as good as the roll I remade but I can't find my post, I think I rolled a 12 then lost the post while I was editing, the re roll is better but I can take the original roll to be fair.
I'm sorry I have not posted but its been a very busy work week leading up to preparing for my vacation. I will be away in Bali from Tuesday Aug 14 to Monday Aug 20. I am not sure how internet connectivity will work over there so please handle and watch over Sallandrya for the up coming week.
Some notes:
Sallandrya will try to use missile fire over melee whenever possible and favorable.
She will target opponents in this manner, from priority to least priority: enemy spell casters, enemy missile troops, enemy melee fighters.
She will cast Command "Sleep" on any overwhelming fighter type.
She will cast Cure Light on anyone should Sir Galavaine or Andre not be available or other wise engaged in combat.
She will light and fire her special arrows to light darkened paths.
I'll be back in a week, I hope everyone has a good rest of their summer!
I will have sporadic access starting tomorrow (8/15) until next Monday (8/20) as I will be at GenCon Indy. I'll try to check in, but my schedule will be very busy, so I'm not sure how well that will work.
Just FYI, I will be giving out ad hoc XP to everyone following the clearing of this level, and I will also total up the value of everything you've found and give you XP for that as well.
Also, I just wanted to make sure everyone is enjoying the game. It's my first shot DMing 1st edition. Ever :).
Thanks. I've got a few old 1st/2nd edition modules I'm thinking of dusting off. I miss the feel of the old game sometimes, even if the rules were a bit open to interpretation...

I am enjoying this game alot. We may be going slowly but we are going steadily. It looks like this game has a strong future. Also I am very envious of that map you did. Well done DM, well done.
They were going to try to hide, but you opening the door caught them in between. Unfortunately, they managed to win the initiative (first time for the bad guys, I think), so the two closest ones moved back to the door.
Ok guys, I did not think my idea would slow us down, (but the roleplaying is fun) - and I thought just waiting for half the party to come back from Hommlett was possibly a DANGEROUS idea, and Charming the bandit was a good idea. I was hoping my little epic speech would convince our brave Knight Cleric. But I have no diplomacy skills I guess. Serves me right for having all DEX and little CHA.
: P
If Sir Gavalaine (and now Pettry) don't want this course of action then we should not Charm the bandit, but we should not waste time waiting too. Can we just restrengthen his bonds, tie up his legs as well and come back for him later? If we Charm him, sending him to Hommlett will be against his nature, and without Pettry to instruct him I am not sure how the details would work.
And this way Pettry gets to keep his spell available. And Pettry I still think you should memorize Charm Person even if we don't use it in this instance. That's just a suggestion, you of course have final say because your a PC as well.
: )
We can just have our dashing Rogues check and strengthen the bandit's bonds.
I wouldn't say it was slowing us down... nice bit of roleplaying.
I keep on being tempted to say "eh, just giv'im a little kiss o'the knife on the neck dere...problem solved".... then I remember I'm chaotic good ....darn :)
By the way even if I role play Salandrya as a hard no nonesense type where the 'end justifies the means', I only wish I was that hard core in real life.
In real life, saying "we can't judge 'good' or 'evil' because we can't see all ends" is a cop out. The means are always just as important as the end.
And I thank Andre and Galavaine for being our groups' moral compass.
Since we're getting close for a number of folks, don't wait to update your character to a rest period if you level up. Just let me know when you ding and go ahead and update. Never made much sense to me to rest before you get the benefits of increased level.
barrels are mostly salted pork and beef, though two barrels contain what appears to be brandy ... Nothing of significant value is to be found, however.
