Character Creation:

Books Allowed: This first adventure was published in 2013, so for the fun of those times we are going to stick with books of that era. Core Rulebook, Game Mastery Guide, Bestiary 1-4, Advanced Player’s Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Equipment, Advanced Race Guide. I will not be including Mythic Adventures.

Race/Class: See above book list.

Alternate Class/Racial Abilities: Let’s just keep them as written.

Favorite Class: HP, Skill, and Class Bonus

Traits: 2 Traits (1 RoW Campaign & 1 Other) or 1 Bonus Feat.

The one thing I do not like about the RoW campaign traits is that 5 of the 7 traits have you tied to the winter witches, yet for the most part they want you starting in Heldren which is roughly 2100 miles away from the homeland of the witches. Just for a mental image, that is just a bit longer than driving from Chicago to Los Angeles… But, here we are.

Stats: 15 Point Buy

Starting Wealth: Max Class Gold

Background Skills: None

Hit Points: Max at 1st, Rolled Beyond.

Alignment: I am open to any alignment except for Chaotic Evil. Just know that this is a team game and needs to be fun for everyone. Some of my favorite X-Men stories are when Magneto is one of the good guys.

Background: This isn’t a video game. Help your character come to life by fleshing them out. Do they have weird habits, quirks, have a pet, ritual before setting out on a journey, not able to eat lamb because you had a lamb you loved and your parents had to kill it to eat one extra cold winter, etc. The options are endless, have fun!

Expectations:

Respect: When we come to the table, digital or otherwise, we need to respect those who we are coming to play with. Will there be disagreements over the course of the campaign? Absolutely. If there weren’t we wouldn’t be human. My ask is that we treat others as we would want to be treated.

Communication: As we all know this is a game and life happens (see about me). We need to keep an open line for communication. If something comes up, please make a post in the discussion, or communicate to the group via Discord. I will have a Discord server up where we will be able to easily communicate with one another.

Posting: Most of my postings will be morning times before work or in the evenings after the kids in bed. I will post 1 – 2 times a day to help story flow and progress scenes and combat. My ask here is that you post once at a minimum. If you post more than once, be sure to give the rest of the party an opportunity to post before your second posting.

RP Posting: This isn’t a video game, so be sure to flesh out your character and really dive in. The more you get into your character, the more fun you will have, and the more it will encourage the rest of the table to do the same.

Combat Posting: When doing an spell, spell like ability, supernatural ability, etc… that has a save to see if its effect happens, go ahead and spoiler roll the damage delt or rounds that the effect will take place. When readying an action, go ahead and roll attack/damage in a spoiler box and if/when readied action goes off I’ll look then.

Social Skills: Skills like Appraise, Bluff, Diplomacy, Handle Animal, Intimidate, and Sense Motive I prefer to roll in my GM box. This helps keep a large gap between player & character knowledge. If this is a make or break thing for you, please reach out privately and we will discuss it.

About Me:

Hello! My name is Clint (GM RelicBlackOUT). I am married and have 3 kids and am working on my Master’s in Leadership. I have been tabletop gaming in some sort or another for the better part of 25 years. I have reached the age where I am now able to tabletop game with my oldest child, teaching him the Hero Kids gaming system. I have had great fun playing and running games over the years, but nothing compares to playing with my kids. I enjoy cooking, hiking, and when there is time reading the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings.

The elephant in the room: But Clint – I looked at your profile and it looks like you ghosted tables 4 +/- years ago, why would we trust you and invest in your game. That is an excellent question. Life happened and I thought my father was going to die. He had heart surgery and a season of recover, but thankfully is still around today. Thank God.

I did not handle that situation well. If you’re reading this and you were at one of my tables, or I was at yours, I apologize. When I logged back on, I felt embarrassed and shame because I was one of those GMs who ghosted and just left the PBP community for several years.

I have moved since then and while unpacking a few things I came across the RoW adventure and felt the urge to run the game. Having just moved and knowing no one here, I have returned to the boards to apologize and hope that I can be given a second chance. Please, take a chance on me.

Is that what you really want to do?

I am putting these in spoiler boxes to prevent massive walls of text. You all can read these, I’ll let you know when boxes are for specific people.

Angus Alehammer:
Looking over his back as he rushes to catch up with Umbra Carnival, Angus sees the city he once called home shrinking in the distance. Goodbye Korvosa... Looking forward he can see the Umbra Carnival, just a dot on the horizon, getting larger as he gains on them.

It takes some time to catch up but you are able to do so. The colorful wagons and carts you see are just as much of a spectacle as the show within the big top. The worries of the world seem to fall away once you catch up and fall in with the caravan.

It seems that you are not the only one with the idea of traveling dangerous roads with the large caravan. You see bards, gleeman, and performers tailing the caravan. You would know that carnivals bring people from all over the country side and that taverns, inns, and village squares would be packed with people looking for entertainment once the carnivals close for the evening. These men and women are just opportunistic entrepreneurs looking to earn a gold crown or two, its not everyday that you are able to find yourself fortunate enough to have such a large attraction hailing a captivated crowd for you to entertain.

On the second full day of traveling alongside the caravan you realize that there is a great divide between the carnival folk, and those traveling with them. They treat each other well enough, but they don’t fully interact with one another. The carnival folk keep to themselves...

It is also on this day that you find a few familiar faces; Ping, Ting, and Fling. Their gnomish faces are split with a smile as they all see you riding in your cart being pulled by two donkeys. In a blur of words they all chime in at once.

“I told you he was traveling with the caravan!” Ping says as he playfully slaps Fling with the back of his hand on Flings chest. Ting responds as he sees your cart; “Look! We don’t have to walk anymore!!” as they climb into your cart and find what room they can, Fling rubs his lower back and says; “Ooohhhh this is what I’m talkin about.”

All at once, in perfect unison, almost as if they had been practicing it, the Ibbleting triplets say; “Can we ride with you Agnus?”

Without giving a moments pause Fling chimes in; “Ping lost our ponies in a bet!” “I did? I did!! What do you call that move you made back there... you know the drill” Ping says back angrily. Unless stopped the three gnomes go back and forth bickering between one another over a bet. It is hard to really know what is going on because they fluently go from common to gnomish back to common again in their argument.

All you do know is that the people who are traveling along side of you begin to look at the newest traveling spectacle, your cart...

Agnus Alehammer Only:

I don’t know why I didn’t see this beforehand but as per the module you cannot be part of the carnival. I am just having you travel with them, like many others would be doing. You wouldn’t have any real connections to the carnival folk.

Uleg the Fidgety:

Uleg has had an interesting journey on his road to reconnecting with the Umbra Carnival. Misconnection after misconnection has left Uleg earning his keep as an entertainer at inns and taverns. Though it is not the same as the songs or ballads most would expect to hear in these locations, the musicians seem to give him a share of the coin as Uleg was the spark to the fire when it came to getting the people up and dancing. Sometimes leaving the town in a hurry on his pony as he danced with a young las that was betrothed to a jealous man.

Today his luck has changed. Uleg has learned that the carnival will be in Ilsurian in a few days as it has just left Korvosa. Fortunately for Uleg, he was already in route from Kaer Maga to Magnimar and just passed through Biston on the shore of Lake Syrantula.

When the Umbra Carnival begins setting up in a town they send a scout, a rider ahead of then to the next city they stop at. Along the way the rider goes into villages and their inns to spread the news. The rider that Uleg met was a half-orc man that looked capable of handling himself.

As Uleg rides towards Ilsurian he pulls out the flyer that the half-orc man was passing out. “Visit the ‘Midway’ and test your abilities with games of skill and chance!” “See the exotic creatures and oddities at the ‘Sideshow.’” and “Are you bold and daring enough to enter ‘The Lair of the Sphinx?’” Are headlines that jump off the pages in their bright bold colors.

Saddened a little, Uleg does not see a headline announcing “Sworos the Swift, the stepdancer of the Umbra Carnival.” Giving himself a reassuring nod and smile Uleg things to himself; They cannot fit all the acts on these flyers.

As he rounds the southern edge of the Ashwood, Uleg catches his first glimpse of Ilsurian. It is a small village, buy beautifully laid out on the hill country side shore on Lake Syrantula. Seeing a bridge to cross the river just to the north of town, Uleg makes his way to enter into the village.

Lethyr:

Lethyr finds himself sitting alone at a table. Looking across the room, not exactly at anyone but more through all of the people there. Unaware that he is doing it, Lethyr is tapping his ring against his empty glass mug. He is deep in thought. Slowly, as if waking up from a dream, Lethyr comes to and starts to become aware of his surroundings.

There is knocking on the table he is sitting at; “Hello? I said would you like more to drink?” looking around the woman next to your table begins talking to herself. “Where did Natalie run off to now? I knew that girl was going to be worthless from the start...” Directing her attention back at you, the human female before you gives you a welcoming smile and leans on your table as she takes your mug. “How about this, I will go get this refilled for you while you snap out of that little day dream you were having. The names Noria, give me a shout if you need anything.” with a wink she stands back up and starts off.

From a quick guess you’d believe that Noria is about middle aged and she is attractive. She is wearing tight pants that are tucked into calf high boots. Her loose fitting white top flows freely as she walks that reveals a red form fitting shirt below. As she makes her way behind the bar she sets your mug on the counter and heads off through the double doors behind the bar. “Where did that girl go! I told you that she would be...” her voice trails off as she goes deeper into the room behind and the doors swing closed.

For the first time since entering into the Two Waters Tavern you fully take in the room. It is full of people eating and drinking this evening. There is a man in a cloak made of scarves of every color and pattern that is tuning up a lute next to the fireplace. Across the other side of the room there looks to be a man who is sickly, skin slightly damp looking and has a shiver to him.

Your attention is quickly pulled away from him as the front doors burst open. A half-orc man in traveling clothes quickly enters the room and makes a B line for the counter. He says something to the man behind the counter and he disappears through the double doors. A few moments later he comes back with Noria quickly following behind him. She greats him with a warm smile, but you are unable to hear their conversation. The half-orc man places a large colorful piece of paper on the counter, gives her a nod, and makes his way back through the front doors.

Noria hands the paper to the man and waves her hand towards the entry. He goes and hangs it near the door. From your position you can see it is a colorful flyer, but the only words you can make out on the top are “Umbra Carnival.”

As Noria is watching him hand the flyer, she scans the room. Making eye contact with you she jumps to it, fills your mug and brings it to your table. “Sorry about that, this one is on me...” she slides the mug in front of you and with a smile she continues; “You must be new around here, I haven’t seen you before. So, whats got you so deep in thought?”

Lethyr only. K-Local or Intelligence Check DC 10:

Noria is a name you have heard before in the short time you have been in this town. She is Noria Arephion, owner and operator of the Two Waters Tavern.

Selkyon:

Selkyon is sitting on the floor, holding a little wooden toy horse, as he watches young Ruby play on the floor with a few toys. She is kneeling and spinning having two horses race in a circle. All the while she is humming a tune that she is currently making up. A smile crosses Selkyon’s face as she stops spinning and starts to loose balance. She stumbles forward and catches herself on Selkyon’s knee, looks up at him and laughs her playful laugh.

Grabbing ahold of Selkyon’s hand, Ruby begins to try to pull him from his chair. “Come and play with me Selkee, come and play.” With her adorable smile and tiny voice, there is no living being in all of Golarion that could resist her request.

Sitting across from Selkyon is Ruby’s mother, Laura. She laughs a little; “Oh honey, don’t pull Selkee.. she adds her daughters pronunciation with a little teasing wrinkle of the nose; “onto the floor. I am sure he doesn’t want to crawl around as you do.” She smiles as she gets up and grabs a broom from the corner.

Beginning to sweep she looks towards Selkyon; “It has been great having you around these past few days. My father doesn’t come around often and it is always a joy to hear stories about him. I was wondering how long you would be staying? Clence brought this home last night.” she sets down her broom in the corner and picks up a piece of paper, she hands it to Selkyon. It is a small flyer that says “Umbra Carnival” across the top and it highlights a few of the attractions. “It should be here and open in a few days. I would love it if you would be able to go with us, it would be our treat. Its not much, but it would be a little thank you for all the help you have been these past couple of days.”

Is that what you really want to do?

Hey guys and/or gals!

In here I would like us to feel free to get to know one another. Feel free to share what you’d like or not.

The only question I would like us all to share is what time zone we are in and when we are most likely to post in the day.

I live in the Midwest, central time zone. I work from home and can check on things throughout the day.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hello everyone! I am dusting off some modules and came across an AP I ran when it first came out. Reign of Winter! I had fun the first time I ran the AP and would like to give it another go. I am looking for 4 or 5 1st level PCs. Below are the guidelines I have for my games and character creation. Lets see what you’ve got!!

Expectations:

What I expect from myself is a minimum of one post a week day, once a weekend. I would also expect this from you. If you are not able to keep this commitment, maybe this one is not for you. I do realize that real life does happen and will make exceptions, but please personally PM me or let the group know via the discussion page.

Not that this needs to be stated, but I expect that everyone will be kind and courteous to one another. This should be a place where we can all just relax and have fun, its what games are for correct?

Before continuing on and coming up with your concepts and characters please take time to read through the Reign of Winter Player’s Guide to help create your characters.

Character Concepts / 5 Minute Background:

I have recently come across the 5 minute background questions and I must say I do love them and have started using them for all my games. This section here is more important to me than the builds. I would take a party of rogues over a balanced party as long as they had in-depth character backgrounds.

1) I'd like 5 points that capture the concept and story of the character. More are welcome, but no less than five.

2) Two goals that you'd like the character to accomplish in-game.

3) Two secrets, one the PC keeps to himself, and one kept from the PC.

4) 3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. Only one should be a rival.

5) Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission.

6) What a fear or paranoia that causes your character to shiver, cower, or panic.

7) Why are you in Heldren? Are you from here or passing by? What brought you here and/or has kept you here?

Character Creation:

Paizo products only, no 3rd party.

Races: Core Races Only. Racial archetypes are ok, nothing that increases the RP. Build these archetypes into your background, why are you different from the vast majority of your kind?

Classes: All classes are available minus occult. Unchained versions where it applies. When it comes to classes with animal companions/mounts/non-familiar pets I will only be selecting one of those to help keep the battlefield cleaner. Archetypes are allowed, but only one. Build the archetypes into your background.

20 Point Buy: I do allow people to sack stats, but please play your character according to their stats.

I love characters who are from an array of ages and I use the aging effects. If you would like to play an middle aged or old character, more power to you! But please add in those bonuses/penalties

Starting Gold: Max class gold at 1st level. I play by the rule of if it is not on your character sheet, then you do not have it. Before starting I give everyone a double check to make sure they are fully ready to start.

HP: Max HP at first and then half HD +1 every level after first

Skills: I will be using background skills, but tie them into your 5 minute background.

Alignments: Any except CE, you have to be able to work with the party towards a common goal...

Traits: 1 Campaign Trait & 1 other.

Favorite Class Features: I allow the extra hit point, skill, or racial features for the favorite class.

Mechanical Stuff:

Initiative: When we come to combat I will roll everyones initiative publicly and keep an active tracker. If two PCs go, then a bugbear, then the three remaining PCs, I will have the first two act in tandem so they don’t need to wait for the other, then the bugbear, then the final three can go all at once. If there is someone who is lagging behind, I will take authority to do the most likely action for that player. This will only be in cases lasting longer than a day.

Mapping the Battlefield: I will do my best to describe the scene and actions, but unless players absolutely need something drawn out I will not be mapping it out. During combat I would love people to be descriptive of what actions they are taking. Don’t just give me an attack roll and damage roll and say your character swings his/her sword.

Skill Checks: There will be some skill checks that I will be rolling separate on the side. Things like passive perception checks for hidden things, sense motive checks, some diplomacy/intimidate/bluff checks. When it comes to social skills there are two deciding factors for me as a DM, how it is roleplayed and how the roll plays out. I am not going to penalize a player for rolling a 1 diplomacy check when they knocked it out of the park, but I am also not going to penalize the player who isn’t the most eloquent with words (me) when they rolled a natural 20 on diplomacy.

Spoiler Boxes: Not that this needs to be said, but when I put a spoiler box please resist reading it unless you make the DC that is stated, have the language that is being spoken, or are the person it is written for.

Game Info:

This AP starts in Heldren in Taldor. Like most peasant communities in southern Taldor, the people of Heldren mostly keep to themselves. Far from the politics of Oppara and ever-watchful for Qadiran aggression, Heldren goes on as it always has, as a relatively small and unimportant hamlet of farmers, herders, and woodcutters.

Heldren is a small village of less than 200 with a majority of those being human. Heldren’s government is ran by a village council.

If you have played this before, that is ok. My hope is that we would keep player and PC knowledge separate. If you struggle with this, maybe this AP is not for you.

Thanks for taking a look and lets have some fun.

Hello all! For the past few days I have been checking in on the recruitment page and it seems like nothing is happening, or nothing is happening that I am into. I can not be the only one having this happening to them, right? I have decided we need more DMs and to run a module that could be a one shot, or if everyone is having fun I have other fun things we could do from that point. This module is only the starting point.

Murder’s Mark is the module I will be running. I will be recruiting 4 1st level characters.

Expectations:

What I expect from myself is a minimum of one post a week day, once a weekend. I would also expect this from you. If you are not able to keep this commitment, maybe this one is not for you. 5) Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission.

Character Creation:

Races: Core Races Only. Racial archetypes are ok, nothing that increases the RP & Paizo only.

Classes: CRB & APG. Unchained where it applies. Sorry, no summoners. I am ok with animal companions and the like. Class archetypes are ok, Paizo official only.

20 Point Buy: I do allow people to sack stats, but please play your character according to their stats.

Starting Gold: Max class gold at 1st level. I play by the rule of if it is not on your character sheet, then you do not have it. Before starting I give everyone a double check to make sure they are fully ready to start.

I do allow any alignment except evil for obvious reasons.

Favorite Class Features: I allow the extra hit point, skill, or racial features for the favorite class.

Mechanical Stuff:

Game Info:

This module takes place in Ilsurian in Varisia. This independent town sits at a crossroads of river traffic from across all of Varisia, on the north bank of Lake Syrantula and the east side of the Skull River.

The PCs can either be from Ilsurian or someone traveling to see the spectacles of the Umbra Carnival that has traveled here.

Thanks for taking a look and lets have some fun.

Greetings all! Back in April of this year I set off on an adventure with 6 PCs to play through some of my old school modules I had from back in 3/3.5 days. Since then we have lost two players to real life responsibility and are in need of one player to join the group.

Here is the current game that is being ran if you’d like to see our play/post style.

Our current team is made up of the following:
Dwarf Evoker (wizard)
Human Ranger (bow)
Elf Cleric of Desna
Human Rogue

Below is the full breakdown of what I am looking for, but in a nut shell it is Core only, 15 point buy, level 2

Expectations:

What I expect from myself is a minimum of one post a day.

Character Concepts:

What I like to see on your character sheet is your background. You are, after all, NOT a level 1 commoner. How did you become a fighter, where did that training come from? From what sect did your druid come from, and who was her elder? Where and when did your cleric receive his call to follow Sarenrae?
What makes your character tick, what drives him/her?
Do they have any vices/phobias/quirks? What do they like and dislike?

Three words that describes their personality.

I would also like a physical description of the character. This way each of us can have an idea of what the others look like in our theaters of the mind.

Character Creation:
You will be level 2.

Because these are some old school modules I want to kick it old school and go Core Only: If it is not in the core players guide then it does not exist. Spells, feats, equipment, etc. This also means no traits. Core classes and races only.
15 Point Buy: I do allow people to sack stats, but please play your character according to their stats.

Starting Gold: 1k gold

HP: Max HP at first, roll for HP every level beyond that. I do allow people to re-roll the 1st natural once per level, but if you get two in a row then it was destined to be.

I do keep in mind aging effect, if you would like to play an middle aged or old character, more power to you! But please add in those bonuses/penalties

I do allow any alignment except evil for obvious reasons.

Favorite Class Features: I allow the extra hit point, skill, or racial features for the favorite class.

Mechanical Stuff:

Initiative: When we come to combat I will roll everyones initiative publicly and keep an active tracker. If two PCs go, then a bugbear, then the three remaining PCs, I will have the first two act in tandem so they don’t need to wait for the other, then the bugbear, then the final three can go all at once.

Spoiler Boxes: Not that this needs to be said, but when I put a spoiler box please resist reading it unless you make the DC that is stated, have the language that is being spoken, or are the person it is written for

The party is currently on the 2nd module and are exploring a mausoleum near the town of Kingsholm. It is a small town with a population of 1732. Mostly human but has a small mix of dwarf, halfling, gnome, and “other.”

I am putting this out as an interest checker because I will need to find a way to plug you in and to see if the party wants to try to brave it with only the four of them.

Thank you for your interest, I look forward to seeing what will be submitted.

******WARNING******

MY PLAYERS DO NOT READ THIS!!!!!

I have a question for those who have played this AP or those who have ran this AP

Question:

So I was looking at the random encounter table and saw werewolf on there.

What do/did you do if one of your PCs attracts lycanthropy?

I did a search and didn’t find much of peoples experiences with this.

Thanks in advance!

4710 AR on Toilday, 2st Pharast at 9:00 am.
Clear day with light breeze. High 47F, Low 33F
Location: South Rostland Road, a days ride north of Oleg’s Trading Post

Swordlord’s Charter:

Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this 24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

The cart creaks as it jostles side to side because of the rutted road. “Damn these southern roads! Can’t afford to crack another wheel...” the driver lets out over his shoulder.

His words snap you out of a daze as you look up from the Swordlords charter, you are still in awe in that you were selected to explore the wilderness of the Greenbelt. You just survived a harsh winter and are now setting off into the unknown. The reason is your own, maybe to be shared...

As you look around the cart and see four vastly different adventurers looking out into the wilderness as you ride. Other than the man guiding the two horses, it has been a silent trip up to this point. Realizing you are just a day away from Oleg’s Trading Post, you think it would be in your favor to get to know the members of this exploration troop.

Welcome! Please feel free to introduce yourselves, players not characters. Once everyone has checked in we will begin the AP

I am currently in the process of slimming down the potential candidates for my this AP and I have slimmed it down to 7. I originally said I would take 5, but I am not sure if I can cut 2 more.... I love the concepts and builds.

IF I do not slim down the PC count to 5 this is what I was thinking to help keep things balanced.

1) 15 Point Buy
2) Core only. If it is not is the Core Rulebook it does not exist.
3)I will not be increasing the loot. This will help keep them lower in power since the party is already large.
4) Advanced Templates OR Add extra mooks.
5) No Leadership
6) (Maybe) No Item Creation

For those who have ran this or have ran it with more PCs, what are your thoughts on the above 6 points.

Welcome all!

I have been lurking around the recruitment page for a bit now wishing I could get into a Kingmaker game but I have been finding that I have been coming up short. Either just missing it or not having a concept/build that would gel with what has already been presented. Because of that, I have decided to run the Kingmaker AP!

I know it is an older and popular AP, but I would love to run this for people who might not have had a chance to play before. I know as gamers there is a lot of knowledge that we keep separate from Player and Character, but not having played this AP before would be better.

The cut off for applications will end Monday August 20th by noon central time. This will give interested parties one week to full flesh out their characters.

Expectations:

What I expect from myself is a minimum of one post a day.

Character Concepts:

What I like to see on your character sheet is your background. You are, after all, NOT a level 1 commoner.

-How did you become a fighter, where did that training come from?
-From what sect did your druid come from, and who was her elder?
-Where and when did your cleric receive his call to follow Sarenrae?
-What makes your character tick, what drives him/her?
-Do they have any vices/phobias/quirks?
-What do they like and dislike?
-Three words that describes their personality.
-I would also like a physical description of the character. This way each of us can have an idea of what the others look like in our theaters of the mind.

Character Creation:

I am a DM that loves the simplicity of CORE games. Not needed to find what are the best feats that feed off of each other, what racial trait works the best with class feature X, etc..

Being Core Only, If it is not in the core players guide then it does not exist. Spells, feats, equipment, etc. Core classes and races only.

Link to find CRB reference guide.

- 15 Point Buy: I do allow people to sack stats, but please play your character according to their stats.
- Starting Gold: Max class gold at 1st level. I play by the rule of if it is not on your character sheet, then you do not have it. Before starting I give everyone a double check to make sure they are fully ready to start.
- HP: Max HP at first, roll for HP every level beyond that. I do allow people to re-roll the 1st natural once per level, but if you get two in a row then it was destined to be.
- I do keep in mind aging effect, if you would like to play an middle aged or old character, more power to you! But please add in those bonuses/penalties
- I do allow any alignment except evil for obvious reasons.
- Favorite Class Features: I allow the extra hit point, skill, or racial features for the favorite class.
- Traits: Everyone get one trait from the campaign. Link to campaign traits
- Also be sure to be familiar with the players guide. It will give you insights and tips on character creation, classes, and races. It also has the campaign traits within it. Link to Players Guide

I look forward to running this game and getting to know the players selected along the way. Please be sure that you have read everything within this posting before submitting your character (Crunch & Background) for the selection process.

Well the subject says it all....

We have been doing RPing and some minor combats up to this point and they finally arrive to the mine where most of this module takes placee. There is a surprise round and i randomly roll for who gets attacked. One player gets attacked by a goblin archer, and another by a charging goblin dog. both hit, the charging dog actually crits and confirms.

I feel terrible about this. This is my first PBP non-friend group game. What do you all do in this situation? They are all 1st level. Just looking for some tips, advice, etc.

Hello all!

I am about to join in on a game that is starting at 6th level. When I had the opportunity to start this high it made me want to do something I have never done before. Necromancy!!! So I got to looking and found what seems to be a fun Prestige class, Agent of the Grave. Being sixth level I could enter into it with 5 levels of something then going with my first level of AotG. I have a few questions.

1) Is Agent of the Grave worth it? I have found old post, 2016 being the newest, and there were split decisions on it.

2) What is a good way to get into Agent of the Grave? There are three main classes that seemed like logical choices; Cleric, Orical, and Wizard. Cleric seemed to stand out the most for me personally.

3) Going with Cleric how not recommended is the “Undead Lord” archetype? I know I lose a whole domain, but what you gain is really cool. At least is flavorwise the undead guy you get seems rather cool.

I am not looking for “Break my character” advice. I am just looking for a little guidance down the path to the dark side. This is the first time I have ever dabbled with necromancy.

Thanks in advance!!

Moments after a flash of light that illuminates the sky, thunder crackles overhead. This once beautiful Spring day has turned into a rainy evening. It started off as a drizzle but has now worked itself up into a downpour. You look around and see your friends soaked to the core, unless they were fortunate enough to purchase a heavy cloak.

You all have received a letter from Barrow’s Edge requesting help. The tan, now crumpled, piece of paper had a seal when you first received it. The seal was of a man walking into an open door. The letter reads;

“To whom these letters find. This is a plea for help. Barrow’s Edge is a small family community that has come under the attack of a goblin clan. They reside in the near by mountains. We don’t have much in the way of defenses, but we do have coin for those who answer this call. We would be eternally indebted to you for your services.

“Gratefully - M. Marchess.”

As you walk down this hard packed road made up of rock and dirt, you look to your left and right. Forest on either side, it has been this way for the past few days.

DC 15 Knowledge Nature:
Looking at the parts of the sky that can be seen, you believe that it will be raining through the night. Since you can not see far enough out, it is still hard to tell if it will lighten up or not.

DC 15 Knowledge Geography:
You know that you have been traveling for a few days. At the rate that you have been making it on foot, it should roughly take you two more days of travel to arrive at Barrow’s Edge.

Brunner Hammerfell:
I know I had it posted before, but here is the info again for your contact point within Barrow’s Edge.

Arvel Durgedown is an ancient dwarf that still has the looks of a once active adventurer. You know that he no longer goes out adventuring, and though he does not like the use of weapons he does see the necessity of those tools.

Arvel is a prominent figure within the hamlet. His influence with traders has helped keep the hamlet supplied with anything they cannot make or grow. His influence comes from his wealth as a money lender.

Barnabus Black:
Vincent Carter, the new head librarian, has called you to his office. You recall it like it was yesterday. Vincent has sternly let you know that your new commission is to help retrieve missing tombs from the library. Some of the books you remember helping find, others are known to have been gone for generations.

Vincent says; “It is of the upmost priority for us to retrieve these books. It seems that we have been taken advantage of for far too long, and that stops here and now. There are a few ancient text that we will be needing to retrieve.

First and foremost I need you to deliver this letter to one master Thaimor. His last known residence was in a small hamlet called Barrow’s Edge. If you acquire the tome, return it here with haste.”

Vincent then hands you the letter. You can feel it press against you in your left breast pocket.

Welcome everyone! I am very excited to start this journey with you all. Just so you know I have 100% full motivation to run the four modules I currently own. All four are classic 3/3.5 D&D modules that I have converted to Pathfinder. By the end of these four modules we should reach level 8/9. We will see how things feel from that point, but I would love to continue through modules into high level fun.

Please feel free to introduce yourselves and mingle. Once we are all familiar I will open up the gameplay page and we will start our first modules; “Scourge of the Howling Horde.”

Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Welcome! I was recently digging through boxes a year after we moved and I unearthed 4 modules that I would love to run for 5 players. The first is a good lead into the final three, which are tied together in a larger storyline. We will be beginning with the module “Scourge of the Howling Horde.”

You and your cohorts have answered the call to help investigate this tribe and help free them from their relentless assaults.

4th of Harpa:

Winter has finally broken and everyone is ready for the warmth. Each year it seems as if the winter keeps getting a bit longer, but it could be because of the recent outbreak of Bonechill.

Bonechill Heal DC 16:
Bonechill is contracted from prolonged exposure to the cold weather. It is a debilitating ailment that tightens your muscles and slows you down. If left untouched it can lead to hypothermia and even death. There are roots and herbs that can help fight off this disease.

There are thirty people in Halsar who are currently afflicted, four of which are elders, and sixteen people have passed on top of those numbers. This has been the worst winter for Bonechill that you can remember.

You are currently in one of the several longhouses that house the people in the village.

Longhouse:
Longhouses were built of wood that had bowed walls in plan, forming a ship-like outline. The walls were lined with clay or consisted of wooden planks placed vertically into the ground, which supported the roof, along with two rows of internal posts. Outside the house was often supported by sloping posts. Roofs were slanted and could be thatched or wooden.

In the middle of the house was an oblong fireplace – the long fireplace. Here the food was made. Along the walls there were plank beds, on which you could sit or sleep. At one end of the house the animals were housed in stalls, if there were no stables.

Brynhild comes next to you as he slaps a hand on your back; “Morning has come, brother.” Pointing to the ram roasting over the fire; “Eat your fill before it is picked clean. Those fools are worse than the blood hawks.” Brynhild says shaking his head. You see a group of men beginning to fight over a roasted ram leg. He starts to walk out of the longhouse but be for exiting he turns and adds; “Tomorrow we scout for the trees we are going to bring down. Word has come from Ragland that King Björn needs more wood in the capital... We are going to need to work twice as hard to meet those needs and the needs to repair any boats that were sundered this winter.” Brynhild begins to turn to leave...

Hey Andy. I know this is your first PBP game so as we go things will become easier with how to format your text. Down below there is a button that shows you how to format your text depending on what you are doing. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions in this discussion thread to help.

Working With DCs:
when we do checks that have DCs I will automatically have the answer revealed within the spoiler button. Please do your roll before clicking the spoiler button and be honest by not clicking on it if you fail the DC.

Hello!

I was curious if there is a way to make the Wizard Word Elemental School SU Of Splintered Spear better.

I am going into the 3rd level and use this ability a lot, but would like to make it better if possible. Any feats that could help this? And I am not looking for ones that give me more uses.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I am wanting to build a character that can be an outright destroyer. I do have some requirements because it is a pre-existing character that I am allowed to fully edit. Here are the guidelines.

Race: Dwarf.
Level 14: 7 Bladebound Magus(minimum) & a 7 level mix between Fighter, Barb, Magus
Point Buy: 30
2 Traits.

I know the abuse Magus can have with shocking grasp, so I will be going down that route. Magical Lineage/Intensify Spell and all the needed fun.

Because of the Intensify Spell I was thinking about going Magus 10, but if anyone has other recommendations it would be greatly welcomed.

Also, this is going to be a 3v1 situation where I am the 1.

The other classes are a Sorcerer, Gunslinger, & Hunter

Hey everyone, I know for some of the past APs they put out booster packs of pre-painted miniatures. My gaming group will be starting this AP in the new year and wanted to get some booster packs for the GM as a christmas gift.

I saw the pawn set, but there is something cool about the miniatures.

Thanks!

Hello all!!

I am playing my first official full caster, an Elven Wizard with the Wood elemental school.

My question is not about the actual character. I am going to have a journal to have as a physical book for my spell book. Inside I would like to have helpful things for me so I won't need to go hunting for info. I will also have inside all of my spells known written out.

Here is what I have so far.

Concentration checks DCs for
Casting defensively, injured while casting, grappled or pinned casting, entangled casting.

SR check.

Here is my question. What other useful info should I have at the ready for a wizard? Thanks!!

I have seen many different answers on the board here so I figured I would ask this question again.

Mounted Archery Feat States:

You are skilled at making ranged attacks while mounted.

Prerequisites: Ride 1 rank, Mounted Combat.

Benefit: The penalty you take when using a ranged weapon while mounted is halved: –2 instead of –4 if your mount is taking a double move, and –4 instead of –8 if your mount is running.

Does this mean that while riding, I can make a single move attack, and a full attack from my mount?

But, If I make a double move from the mount and full attack I get the -4?

Yes this could be a redundant post, but there were so many different answers.

Thanks for the help.

Hello all! I am typically a "Core only" kind of guy, but I am getting things raved up for a new homebrew game that will be starting in a month or two. I am wanting to branch out away from my "Core only" mindset.

I will be starting them off at level 3, less squishy and able to focus on concept building vs survival building. First level is tough.

Back in 3.5 there were things called ECL, equivalent/effective class level. There were races that if they were a ECL +1 plus lvl 1 fighter they were "equal" to a level 2 character.

Flash forward to Pathfinder and they now have Race Points. If you were to break them down in to ECL what point range would be a level 1 or a level 2?

I want to give people options based on character concept the ability to play races I normally don't allow, but to keep things balanced.

I hope this makes since what I am asking. I tried to search ECL and race points but nothing came up. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello! I am currently playing in a Kingmaker game and the party wants to make a specific item that will help us in questioning/interrogation situations. The DM said we could make it, I just want to know the rules around it.

What we are wanting to create is a "Rug of Abadar's Truth Telling"

We want to have a rug that has a constant effect of the "Abadar's Truth Telling" on it.

I know this would include the need for that spell, permanent spell, and CWI.

What is the math needed to figure out the GP cost is also another thing I am looking for.

Thanks guys, I look forward to see what everyone comes up with.

Also, I am playing a crafter and know how the rules to make the items that are already listed in the Ultimate Equipment book, but when it comes to crafting a "new" item, I need a little help.

Hello all,

Our lovely DM (no sarcasm inserted) gave us a gift at 7th level, LEADERSHIP! What a fun feat to have, for free! So I wanted to make something different, fun, and versatile.

When it comes to his primary role in relation to my character (Aasimar Paladin Evangelist of Abadar), this cohort will be an advisor, and crafter. He will also have been traveling with me before coming here controlling the battlefield and buffing me.

Feat uses: Crafting
Spell Uses: Buffing and Battlefield control.

We have to use basic NPC stat line: 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8
And basic NPC starting gold: 2400

He will be level 5 at this point. Not fully able to get into the Mystic Theurge Class. Right now I am looking at Wizard 3/ Cleric of Abadar 2. Concept for him being higher in wizard is because I as an evangelist for Abadar had more recently converted him, 2 levels of cleric.

With the Wizard side I was thinking of going Universal Arcane School with the Arcane Crafter focus. I like the Metacharger (Ex) ability from this focus, plus a bonus Meta or crafting feat? Yes please.

As far as the cleric side comes in I was looking at Protection with the Defense sub, and Travel with the Trade sub. Both are tied in deep with being a Cleric of Abadar. Since these don't continue once I get into the PrC I was thinking these were the most bang for the buck with Abadar. Would their be better options with different Abadar domains? Earth, Law, Nobility, Protection, Travel.

The stat line is where I need help. I was originally thinking about ending up going Human with my +2 into INT and my level 4 bump in WIS ending up with this stat line.
Str 7 Dex 8 Con 9 Int 16 Wis 14 Cha 12. That is with going Middle Aged -1 Physicals +1 Mental. Should I get crazy and go into the OLD age? Another +1 Mental for -2 Physical? If I did this I would change things a little bit and end up with this stat line:
Str 5 Dex 6 Con 9 Int 18 Wis 14 Cha 11

Eventaully I would be crafting headband of INT and an Ioun stone of Wisdom. To raise the spelll levels I can cast.

Feats I would be looking at are:
Toughness (Human)
Extend Spell (1st lvl)
Craft Wonderous (3rd lvl)
Empower Spell (Metacharged bonus) longer buffs, nice for situational scrolls.
Craft Arms & Armor (5th lvl)

When it comes to the Wizards Arcane Bond I am torn. I could go with a familiar like a Thrush for the eyes and ears and +3 diplomacy. Or I could go with something like the Bonded item and go with a Wand and keep recharging it with whatever spells I like.....

I know this is kind of planned out and seems like I know what I am doing. I suppose I wanted a second/third/fourth opinion on what I am doing.

Hello!

I have a question about options for a Paladin prestige class.
Here's some info:
Paladin of Abadar level 6
Melee (sword/shield) build
Aasimar with middle age (age resistant spell like feature)
He is a religious political influence in kingmaker.
All in with "The Lawgiver" his tabard and banner has the two headed eagle on it.

I know straight Paladin isnt the most optimal way to go, but I want a PrC that goes with the flavor of what I'm doing concept wise.

Sixth level is where I need to be at.

Thanks again.

Hello All!

It seems I cannot get enough of GM/playing, and I would like to run something for my wife.

Last week I ran a small dungeon crawl for my wife and she liked it. This was her first experience of D&D/Pathfinder. She is interested in playing but due to the fact that we have a 8 month old we cannot have the whole gang over, and we cannot both go out for a gaming night over at the gaming house.

So, I will be running something for her. I am thinking of running an AP for her, or possibly doing single modules and stringing them together.

Focusing on the AP side of my search, I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on which would be the best AP to solo? I did a little looking and the last question I found on this topic was from 2011, and a few new APs have been out since then.

The only stipulation I have is this cannot include APs that our group is currently playing. This would exclude Kingmaker, and Reign of Winter. I wouldn't mind an AP that is still in print to make it easy to acquire.

Thank you for any help in this.

I am looking over the werewolf for an upcoming session I am running and had a question.

If one of the PCs become afflicted and turn into a werewolf at the next full moon, do they control all of the class abilities when they are in hybrid form, or only in regular form?

I would be thinking of class abilities from Slayer, Ranger, or Magus.

Hello all!

I am interested in the Gunslinger class. I was doing a little research on it and came across someone who went Gunslinger/Spellslinger then into the Eldritch Knight PrC.

I know that they are two completely different characters in abilities. My question is which is a more reliable way to go if playing in an AP starting at level 1?

I am looking to go straight Gunslinger, but the options of shooting spells also made me think.

Thanks you for any help.

I am running Reign of Winter for my play group. I have a 4 person party; Summoner, Slayer, Ranger, Gunslinger. Each combat it almost seems that the Summoner could solo each encounter. I have always believed that the summoner is OP without even trying to get break it.

My question is that does Superior Summoning work with the summoner's Summon Monster I (sp) ability? It seems broken that it is a standard action instead of full round, plus he gets one more if it cast multiple....

I am not out to kill the party but the summoner last night in one round killed a Winter Wolf with 1d4+1 Hawks. He rolled 4 so ended up with 5. Standard action to summon, they are next to the wolf, all 5 full attacks with smite.

So does it Superior Summoning work with the Sumon Monster I (sp) or ounces that are actually cast as a spell?

I am looking for info on the town of Ellsprin. My group is needing a village to stop at and I was going to use this as a stop. There is no info on the town online, or in the messageboards. Anyone have any info that I might be missing? Thanks for the help.

I have a question about a level 20 witch. I am going with a northern Irrisen witch concept. Heavily on the cold spells. What would be better straight 20 witch, or 10/10 witch/winter witch PrC.

I am playing a Magus Bladebound and I am having a great time with the character, but I was wondering what the ego score exactly does.

I have the Ultimate Equipment book and it is not exactly clear on what that means. Is it something for the GM to do for fun RP moments?

Thanks for the help.

I am wondering what skill/s would a commander use in battle for tactics? Or even to look at a map and know where strong/weak points are.

My initial thoughts were engineering, but there wasn't anything specific in the skills. Thanks for the help.

Hello. I am playing with a group that is starting Kingmaker. I am interesting in doing an Item Creation Wizard. Starting off I am thinking about using the Universal School with the Arcane Crafter Sub because of the Metacharge ability

Metacharge Ability:

Metacharge (Ex)

As an Arcane crafter, you gain a bonus feat at 3rd level, which must be an item creation feat or metamagic feat. You must still meet all prerequisites for a bonus feat, including caster level minimums. When using metamagic feats to create magic items, your skill and understanding of the principles involved in the item’s creation give you a +2 bonus on the skill check made to create the item.

I am also looking to go with a Valet Familiar Archetype due to the Cooperative Crafting ability, and the other bonuses it receives. I really wish there was a Familiar that gave a bonus to Spellcraft. Going with a Thrush for my Familiar.

Cooperative Crafting:
Prerequisites: 1 rank in any Craft skill, any item creation feat.

Benefit: You can assist another character in crafting mundane and magical items. You must both possess the relevant Craft skill or item creation feat, but either one of you can fulfill any other prerequisites for crafting the item. You provide a +2 circumstance bonus on any Craft or Spellcraft checks related to making an item, and your assistance doubles the gp value of items that can be crafted each day.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience playing an Item Creation Wizard, and if these options are worth it. I am looking to play a dwarf (I know unleash the hate for no +INT) and its 25 point buy, so I am not sweating the no plus to INT.

25 Point Stat Block w/Dwarf:

Str: 8
Dex: 16
Con: 14
Int: 18
Wis: 10
Cha: 7

If you have any advice for a Item Creation Wizard let me know.

I am a long time 3.5/Pathfinder player but I usually stick to the core classes. Don't know why, but its what I do. I am looking at a witch for the upcoming RoW AP that we will be running and I was wondering how this hex works. It seems to me that it will be very useful and I like a character that has utility belt options.

It says it functions like Spider Climb but you need ice on the walls to climb, and you're not hindered in normal snow.

It says nothing about duration, or how many times I can do it. If it functions like the Spider Climb spell does it have that same time duration. As far as how often I can use it, am I able to keep recasting it?

It's not really clear in the RoW players guide, and in the Hex section it does not state duration/frequency. Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I am looking for insights/experiences with these two archetypes for a Druid.

I'm looking to focus as a spell caster and really liked the Storm Druid archetype. It seems over all giving up the summons is worth the trade off, and even more so once I hit 9th level for the extra domain.

I found the Storm Lord a fun variant, I'm just not sure about giving up wild shape. I know as a full in caster I'll be able to get fly from some of the spell like abilities, just not sure what experiences people have had.

Side note, the campaign that this character will be in is city based, and traveling to underground cities. It's a Homebrew game.

I am looking to go 10 15 14 14 21 10 for stats. We are going +10 and 2 odds.
I was going human taking my wisdom from 19 to 21.

Human for the stat and extra feat. No real reason other than that.

Feats I'm leaning towards Improved Initiative, and Scribe Scroll.

Like I said I'm just looking for insights or what experiences you may have had. Any help is welcomed, thanks so much!

We are starting a new campaign and I am going wizard. The GM shut down the strong option of the improved familiar wand wielder so I am going with the bonded item. I was wanted something cool then i stumbled across the Ioun Bond arcane discovery from People of the River. I was wondering what peoples experiences were with this type of bond, or any cool tricks, etc. I really like the visual concept of it. Just wanted peoples insights. I tried to do a search and there were no real conversations happening about this type of bonded item. Thanks for any help

So I'm wondering how things work if you go half-orc with the toothy race option when the draconic bloodline bite kicks in?
Do you just take the better of the two or do they combine for something better?
Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone. I am setting up a Homebrew game that will take the PCs from 1-12ish, depending on what they do. I have a story arc (beginning and end) in mind. What I was wondering is are there any one off modules that would work well to plug into a home brew game that wouldn't cause confusion or try to pull them into a longer story? So no APs. I really love the Paizo modules and think they are well written, that's why I want to use them.

Basically looking for ones set in a single location, tower/dungeon/graveyard/etc.. Thanks for any help!
