Yeah, I hate to see it go but it's time to let go.

Thanks; I had a good time.

If this campaign ever starts up again, look me up as I will probably be around.

Happy gaming to all!

Fabian

Okay, I am sending DM Carpe a pm to see whether he's still with us or not.

If not, I vote we find ourselves a DM so we can keep this game and this group going. Because I really don't want this game to end; it's been way too much fun.

Good luck with DM Carpe because if he can no longer DM then I'm afraid the campaign is a no go. There are plenty of players and not enough DMs and I doubt very much anyone would pick this up.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for this game to continue but I'm skeptical...

Please say it isn't so...
Too much fun; too many excellent RP opportunities once we got off the island and back to Alexite's 'home country'...
Looking forward to getting a puppy...

Hey everyone,

I will be running a Skull & Shackles PBEM and posted an add here. Take a look and let me know if you are interested.

Happy gaming!

my previous post was assuming this scenario so I'll be lazy and repost it here. :)

Alexite agreed, "Either way we won't know the truth until we get to the Red Mountain and now's a good a time as any to go. So, as much as I like to stay safe and comfy, I think we have one more task to do in this cursed island."

The ranger called Tito to his shoulder and grabbed his meager belongings, ready to set out.

BTW, what time is it?

Alexite nodded, "Aye, we need to recover from our foray before we head out anywhere. I say we stay inside the lighthouse, and post guards. We had a pretty good defensive position here. Then tomorrow, we head out and finish this thing."

He looked at all gathered, "Everyone comes along although not everyone will take an active part in exploration. Remember what happened last time we split up."

His stomach rumbled, "I can take first watch. Jask, is there anything to eat here?"

DM Carpe wrote:
Works for me, I might use Jack as an NPC in the next module as I think I've got a fairly decent handle on the character and it would be nice to have him there or there abouts as we continue.

Feel free to start using him now if you want. I certainly don't want the extra work but I thought you'd be plenty busy.

Just let me know.

While Quinta recounts the party's adventures below, Dragolan sidles over to Alexite. He murmurs, "You should stop calling Mistress Wist 'girl,' Master Krupt. She certainly does not lack maturity, and her capabilities have doubtless saved us on more than one occasion."

Alexite nodded, "Thanks for reminding me. I mean no harm and she knows it. It's just she reminds me of little sister. Trust me, her voice and abilities are very welcome."

DM Carpe wrote:
As they emerge they are greeted by an anxious Jask, Sasha, and Ishirou. Who ask them what they encountered in the darkness.

Alexite rubbed his eyes trying to get them adjusted to the 'bright' light. The ranger stretched his wiry frame and breathed some decent air after a while. He couldn't believe how people chose to live their entire lives underground.

"We barely made it out and that's not an understatement. Undead polluted these caverns but I think we finally put an end to that. I don't think our task is over on this island."

He looked at Quinta, "But come, the girl here is much better at telling tales and she's certainly far prettier to look at. I'm sure she'll compose a song about this one day."

tag?

"Have you made any progress with the lighthouse?"

Totally agree. We'll get one or two people once we are off the island.

I would rather we NPCed Jack as we may need his traps/disable device skills.

I can write something for Jack when I write for Alexite but he certainly won't be nearly as well developed as he had been.

Fair?

The ranger's eyes became accustomed to the dim light once again. He spat on the corpse, "Aye, well done indeed."

Alexite cleaned his blade, "I know you may not want to hear this but we should finish exploring this place. If you are all healthy enough that is."

He turned to Quinta, "Girl, you are right. If that serpent-demon was what caused this then she'll get what's coming to her but 'that' will have to wait."

"So, are we apt enough to finish with this hell hole?"

Jack, thanks for playing and lots of luck!

A claw lashes out at Alexite from the darkness! But the ranger only feels the wind of its passage and a hiss of irritation...

The ranger tensed for a second as memories of being helpless surfaced. Realizing he hadn't actually been hit, he held his blade on high and yelled in anger, "You missed, hellspawn!"

He then turned to his left as if by instincts and savagely cut down. The ranger was rewarded by a meaty sound and an even more satisfying cry of real pain. "But I won't!"

That's alright Quinta. Remember the 'team thing'; you gave me all the good rolls! :)

"Quinta, wait. We won't be able to see it anyway, even if your eagle can. It's time to leave this place and seal this thing here for eternity."

Alexite then cautiously starts heading to the entrance, still with his falchion high and 'waiting' for the monster to attack.

move action to get away and holding his standard action in case Alexite is able to determine where to attack

Thank you for keeping us in mind.

Do what you can; we understand.

Hey DM Carpe,

Did you get a chance to come up for air? :)

Just a quick post to let you know that we're ready whenever you are.

Yeah, lots of luck in your studies and thanks for playing!

Thanks for letting us know and take a gaming break every once in a while. :)

"Or if she was smart, she may have cast on something on her and then it moves with her."

Still waiting for the creature to show up the ranger was ready to leave, "I think we found what we were looking for here. I'm ready to leave and seal this hole. She can keep her eternity. What do you say, shall we come up for air?"

If nothing happens, Alexite will angle towards the door...

You're not thinking of everybody just holding hands and 'sweeping' the place...

Next round, I can start to summon something in the Ghast's general area with attack orders. If we hear a scuffle, or even just a dying scream, we can zero in on that.

I'm thinking either you summon something that can see in the dark (although it will only be for 2 rounds) or we retreat and come back fully healed and with magical lighting (at least for outside her spell range).

How's detect magic (hoping she's got something magical)?

Anybody have any potions that would help? Can any of the NPCs help?

Let's face it, we killed the lacedons because they physically attacked but if she doesn't...

Thoughts?

I know Joll (and everyone) has been attacked by the channeling which is why I said I am holding my action to see if she attacks anyone physically. If she does attack anyone physically, then that person (maybe even me) can call out her location and Alexita can move and attack. I know there are a lot of IFs there but I thought it was worth a shot.

Alexite is holding his attack until he hears somebody being attacked or he gets an 'idea' of where that thing is.

If the above happens then...

The scream from Joll (?) guided the ranger who having hit once was brimming with confidence. Again he slashed down with the magical blade and again it caught undead flesh. The creature screamed and the ranger knew that his blade had done some real damage.

Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Assuming it's as Jack says..., Carpe, please adjust otherwise

Not having felt an attack by the lacedons, the ranger was tempted to let down his guard for a full attack but his recent experience with his still very fresh on his mind.

DM Carpe wrote:
I'm going to assume Dragolan will call out their location so you all have at least a rough idea where the Lacedosn are.

Will this rough idea allow us to move and strike them (obviously with the 50% chance for a miss) or do you have to start within striking distance (like Joll)?

Not that I mind, let that be clear but I thought they had to strike you to get a 'rough idea of their position'. What other actions could be taken to get a rough idea? Is there a perception check of sorts?

Alexite was indeed working under false assumptions; thanks for the chance to correct that.

Surprised at the incoming wall of darkness, the ranger dropped his bow and whipped out his blade, enhancing it additional sharpness from his magical scabbard (+2 for 4 rounds).

Not knowing exactly where the things were made the ranger wary and his last fight had not gone as expected. This time he was adamant he was not going to be bitten or clawed.

But his swing caught nothing but air. Alexite cursed and brought up his sword to protect himself.

Fighting defensively

+1 falchion damage: 2d4 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 + 2 = 12

Fighting in the dark was no way to fight. With his previous assumptions and plans thrown in array, the ranger came up with a new battle plan. He would retreat... and hopefully draw a monster or two with him.

Alexite yelled even as he stepped away, "North! I'm going North. Let's spread out and see if some of these creatures become visible for a proper fight."

He seethed with anger, "C'mon you filth! Follow me and know what it is to die for good!"

Full round action retreat to F4

The way you drew the darkness it looks like the thing came in the temple and cast it. As soon as it came in, Alexite would have shot and I'm sure Jack was smiling as well because he was going to catch them flat-footed. That would have been our readied actions if the creatures weren't inside when you rolled initiatives.

I thought the things came in the temple and you rolled initiatives. The way the rolls came out, we got to act first and we were all waiting for the map (except Quinta who just did a self buff and didn't need to know where the enemies were). The reason why you saw no readied actions was because we were waiting for a map. You didn't need 'to move things along'; we were all waiting for the map.

So when you rolled initiatives, the things were still outside? Like I said before, if that would have been clear, then we would have readied actions (i.e., shot the first thing that comes in, wait for X to cast a spell, etc.).

Obviously a big misunderstanding which resulted in four of the five players losing their actions. I guess this is why you're the DM, you get to let us know how we proceed from now on.

Wow here a second. Back in post #2035 you rolled initiatives and said that we were to act before the lacedons. Some of us stated what we wanted to do but were waiting for you to post a map for us to act, which you said you would later tonight. I specifically wanted to know which target had cover or not so I could shoot someone. I'm sure others were thinking of doing something similar and not lose our turn like it seems we did. Now it seems that you assumed that we 'readied' an action and had the bad guys act. I wasn't readying an action, I was just waiting to see where the guys were. Am I missing something here?

... and here's the big man himself!

"Dra-go-lan, he's our man..."

Oh wait, not yet. :)

Quinta Wist-Thrune wrote:
Big Mama. She's most likely to be a spellcaster, which spells trouble when we're talking about an enemy. I think she needs to be our primary target, so pour on the hurt. Please. ^^

I flip flop when it comes to this question because sometimes it's best to take out the little guys so they can't hurt you and then concentrate on the big guy. And remember that these 'little guys' aren't so little. Yes, their attacks are 'manageable' but that nasty paralyzation ability is a b*++~!

I'll take a look at the map later but right now, I'm inclined to take out the lacedons first.

Sadly, I'm going to wait until Carpe posts a map because I want to see who has or hasn't got cover. Alexite will shoot this round but the question is who?

Carpe, don't make us wait until tonight!

I'm assuming all four things came in but what sort of undead came in with the lacedons?

What is Nylithati? Can we even tell?

A vampire (little one hopefully)? :)

We don't need to know hp but what about AC?

Just let Dragolan have his say on the healing request and then... we're ready! :)

I suggested IC in the Gameplay thread that Jack, Joll, and Alexite (in that order) should receive healing spells so I'm hoping Dragolan and/or Quinta take the hint...

Dragolan hasn't posted since I posted that so I'm sure he'll see the logic of heal now and not waste an action to do so later.

I just want to congratulate DM Carpe because he is running a game where the players actually care about what's going on and are fully invested in their PCs.

DM, you're doing a good job!

We are not boned! (says the guy who was frozen in the last fight).

C'mon, keep that chin up.

Being ready the minute anyone comes in through that door will go a long ways in winning this thing!

Vampire coven?

Surely not!

At least three of the four 'creatures' were weaker so that's good... :)

Dragolan Canario wrote:
"I have a few cure spells remaining; that is all." I think; IIRC, Dragolan didn't get any of the potions.

"Well, from the looks of things the order of recipients should be Jack then Joll then myself if there are any left over. Maybe the girl has some as well. If so, don't use all of yours up and let her do some healing as well. Quickly now before they get in."

Alexite looked around; it was clear that Joll, Jack, and himself were hurt despite the healing potions. He turned to Dragolan, "I understand you trying to save your life burst to hurt the undead but three of us could use some healing. Do you have any spells or potions that you can distribute in case you go down?"

He looked at the girl, nodded, and whispered, "Good. keep it up. We're in no position to go out there. They are going to have to come in for us."

Alexite breathed deep to bolster his courage; this did not sound good. He lowered his voice hoping whoever was outside did not hear him, "We are in danger and we need to be really smart if we are to survive. it seems there are four outside; let's hold our action and see if we can draw them in and attack them."

He looked at Quinta, "Girl, call them in. Tell them you're too scared to go out but accept its offer and call it in. Hopefully, we can all get one attack at it before it can react."

DM: the idea is to position ourselves to get a surprise attack on whatever comes through the door.

Joll wrote:
"Let's get out of here. If we are lucky, Jask might have some knowledge of what we saw down here."

Content with the group's decision, the ranger led the way. "C'mon then, let's get out of this cave. I'll ask Jask for some healing later tonight."

Alexite picked up his bow and left the confined room, entering the vast underground temple. He headed towards the small side door when something made his nape hairs stand on end. He lifted his left hand quieting down everyone and whispered, "Unless our friends followed us, there's someone outside the temple."

Quickly drinking his healing potion, the ranger took up a position with his bow and watched the entrance.

CLWP: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Alexite was as confused as everyone else was with regards to the writing, probably more so. "Isn't that what the pictures show?"

He shook his head, "They talk about the waves below but I thought that snakes breathed air? Anybody make any sense of this?"

Ever the practical man, Alexite let the smarter people of the group decipher the riddle. He again surveyed his wounds and frowned; he was not in the best of shapes and he was cast as a primary fighter of the group. Speaking to everyone in the group, he sighed, "If we go after this 'thing' now then I need some healing. I am loathe to drink the potion; I wanted to save it for an emergency but will do so if that's what the group thinks it's best. In any case, I either get some healing or we pull out and come back tomorrow. What do y'all think?"

Dragolan Canario wrote:
"It comes to me to ask: why are we still here, when we share the caves with a powerful and presumably hostile undead creature? "

The ranger nodded as he looked at the deep gouges left by the lacedons, "Aye, I for one could use some healing if you have any to spare. But hold, maybe you should save your gift, I have the potion we found in the witch's lair."

He thumbed the arrows in his quiver, "Another thing of which I'm guilty myself, we cannot afford to close in with the ghouls. We must attack from distance. Are you all equipped to do that?"

tag?

The ranger cocked his head, "So we are thinking that that woman was actually one of these snake-people and that she somehow 'charmed' the captain to crash the ship here?

"If that's true then was she looking for this temple?

"Dragolan, could you be sensing Ieana to the northwest?"

The ranger watched in panic as the 'girl' and Dragolan fought off the last two undead creatures. He saw Jack and Joll come about, their bodies no longer paralyzed, as he continued to struggle against his own bond.

Rampart thoughts run through his head: is my condition permanent, have I become a cripple only able to sense things, who's going to take care of me, how will I eat...

Thankfully, his body readjusted and 'released' him. The ranger was sweating profusely and looked very nervous as he patted down his limbs making sure everything was more or less OK. Quickly realizing that everyone was looking at him strangely, Alexite's face changed from pale white to a ruby red.

he breathed a heavy sigh of relief and went over to personally thank Quinta and Dragolan, "I guess that's proof enough that we are indeed a team and should continue watching each others' backs. Thank you both."

He then picked up his weapons and went about exploring the temple. He was particularly interested in the cages and in the snake-head with the door in its mouth.

Is this a normal sized door (i.e., does it lead to somewhere or is it just part of the statue)?
Alexite has knowledge geography at +4 and knowledge nature at +7 if there are rolls needed.

I was thinking almost exactly the same thing. Either this is serendipity or we are both predictable, unimaginative people.

Serendipity, definitely serendipity. :)

Yeah, no pressure at all. And as much as I'd like to play the Reign of Winter AP, I really want to play this one more; the following book sounds like a blast!
