Background:
Harely Stoxs was born in Harlem and grew up in an orphanage along with his older brother Alan. Never adopted Harely's brother turned to the gang life and joined True Money Bosses, later when Harely turned 16 he too ran away from the orphanage to join TMB.

For the next six years Harely was in and out of juvenile detention as well as an 18 month stay in a detention center. It seemed to Harley he would never get his live on any kind of track until he left the TMB. His last job for the gang was helping load a truck during a warehouse robbery, but something went wrong and Harely remembers very little of what happened.

He was in the back of the truck stacking a box when he heard a commotion and the truck rocked back and forth a bit. Running to the doors he saw a few members of TMB lying on the ground then a darkness enveloped the area and he saw and heard nothing after that. Harely was in and out of consciousness for what seemed like days, but always the darkness, silence, and cold remained. He believed he was blinded and made deaf but the world around him was empty, and the "ground" felt wrong.

Starved and delirious, and battling nightmares on a daily bases, Harely started to think of home. His mind's eye brought up images of his brother, the streets he lived, and even the old orphanage where he grew up. And somehow through sheer force of will he emerged from the Dark Dimension.

Harely made it back to an old hideout of the True Money Bosses where he spent several days sick and feverish, as his body mutated from the long exposure to the Dark Dimension. As the darkness tried to take him over (to devour him once more) he fought it and then learned to control it. And before long he was able to bend the darkness within him to his will, but the question remained What to do with this new power?

Before he could make a decision he found out his brother was sent to prison while he was trapped. Instantly Harely went to free him, using his new abilities to break into the prison and break out his brother. But something his brother said to him as they ran from the prison yard stopped him. It was hard for Harely to leave his brother there in the prison yard but he didn't want to continue down the path of his youth. It was then that he turned to Allison Barstom for advice. Ms. Barstom had always been more than helpful in getting Harely out of trouble so he went to see what could be done for his brother legally. And he found his answer without realizing it, he would sop his criminal ways and become a hero.

Officer Lark was on patrol the day Blacklight made his debut onto the superhero scene. A routine mugging turned into a firefight in the streets, when the intended victims were discovered to be armed as well, poor Offcer Lark was caught in the crossfire. Stepping in Blacklight knocked out a thug who had Lark at gunpoint, and then helped the officer contain the rest of the situation. Afterward the two met once again when Blacklight made a spike chain of darkforce to stop a car-jacking.
