Agriver pushes his way slowly through the filthy opening muttering.

Once on the other side he goes about cleaning his armor and tabbard while inquiring..

"What have you found??"

Agriver pushes his way into the next room, his plate mail making his progress slow and noisy.

Once on the other side he tends to clearing the feces from his belongings.

"What have you all found?"

Are we done playing this? Getting forward progress has been brutal lately

Seeing the party wizard hesitate the knight continues to stand guard, refusing to leave the unarmored behind.

"Ansel, please continue."

Merry Christmas everyone!

Focusing his eyes back to his immediate surroundings the Paladin watched the exchange between his friends.

"You both have skills there is no doubt in that but I stand by my initial assessment. Vala you are up... Tell us what you need and let's bring pain to these heretics.."

Looking at Robin he continues "If you bathe more often.... Maybe your odor won't give you away" he says with a chuckle.

After spending some time mentally sizing up the opening to the mass of his armor..

Agriver comments "If I were to lay a trap or ambush - this is how it would be done. Make the enemy come through the gap one at a time and engage them congest the path so they could not reinforce. Perhaps Vala with the aid of a spell to further conceal her would be the best path forward. She is quiet and can slip in to scout, being spry if things became dangerous she could retreat easier than the rest of us."

The paladin furrows his brow as he continues to contemplate what may lurk in the shadows.

He then casts his eyes toward the gap and hunts for the infernal.

Detect Evil

Agriver surveys the gloom under the light of Iomadae’s grace. Seeing the darkness pushing in around them he drops to one knee and gives a quick prayer to his goddess, his mind drifting to his recent understanding.

Once his spirit is centered the paladin stands and retrieves one of the scrolls from the ivory tube on his belt. He hands it Ansel with a smile – ”Will you please read the arcane words and give me its protections?”.

As the energy washes over his steel clad body his focus becomes razor sharp and he begins moving toward letting his faith (and light!) guide him.

Agriver looks a Robin as a wolf and gives a slight laugh, that is before the sneaky ranger puts the paladin on his back and darts out the door.

"Nice.. glad I am not wearing my platemail - it wouldn't be funny if he put a dent in it and the smith needed to hammer it out before we left again. I'll have to put a tally in the book and remember to get back at him later"

The paladin hoists himself to his feet and his minor wound fades before it shows any signs of distress.

He then looks at Ansel with a a glint of inspiration, but decides to save it for later.

"We should go and see where Vala is. That floor on the spire won't stay cleared for long. We need to press our advantage."

Letting himself think about the party druid a moment. "It is sad we lose two friends today on our quest of zeal. I am not sure who I will miss more.. Yon or Rboud."

Agriver looks over at his companion and answers simply "Faith"

Managing a weak smile Agriver nods at Robin.

"It is good to care about things outside of our calling. It reminds us of what we have to lose should we fail... or fall."

Reflecting on recent blessings he continues "Iomadae has graced me with the understanding of mortality during my meditations recently. I will endeavor to ensure this new lady in your life.. doesn't get robbed of your company should you find yourself chatting with Zon Kuthan.."

With a glance toward the sunset he mutters "Retirement... it's a nice thought. Though Paladin's seldom are given the chance"

Agriver looks over from his horse and gives a faint smile to his friend. "No Robin, you have not - tell me. Bring some light to this... gloom"

After the quiet ride back from Daggermark, his coins much lighter - and his blade more powerful - the paladin heads to the Red Shield for some mead to calm his spirit.

Where he normally would buy a round for the knights as he passed them, he instead keeps withdrawn.

Law or no, maybe Vala has a point about this place.... while I see the need for order, I cannot help but see the tyranny and complacency of this place... maybe there is a better place to make our basecamp - I hear she founded a place outside of these walls for training.

Indeed we are!

Agriver spends most of his time praying in his room at the inn. With candles and incense permeating the space he sinks deeper in thought. His purpose seeming to focus like the point of a spear toward the purging of evil. Zeal creeps deeper into his overall being, but then in a flash of light an understanding of something peaceful.

"Evil will be purged, the mercy of the goddess.... is.. amazing"

Knowledge of purgatory and hades flood his consciousness, and the threads of life and death are laid bare in his minds eye.

After hours of sweat and focus, the paladin rises - his breathing even and his focus sharper than the blade of a keen falchion.

Folks - can we get this back on track? I want to smite some evil bastards and banter and such.

Agriver passes time quietly as the group makes their way back to the fort. His mind dwelling on his cellmate, and the foul profane magic that was used on him.

I attacked Vala... I hit her, and I couldn't stop myself.. Iomadae help me not be so weak - ever again.

When the party passes through the gates into the massive keep he quietly excuses himself from the group agreeing to meet for dinner as usual later.

"I need to take some time and commune friends."

Spend time communing and shopping.. getting affairs in order

Agriver doesn't move, we watches the ranger kill the young of the evil creatures without so much as a hint of disapproval.

"It needed to be done. Root and stem..." echoes of judgement resonate within the paladins voice.

Let's be done with this place for a time. I need to commune with Iomadae, my thoughts are clouded with anger.

"Explore your theory dwarf. I will guard you " mutters the knighthis mind on distant thing.

Agriver looks at his friend and smiles.

"Pain is the gods way of reminding us we are not finished yet."

The paladin lays his hands on the ranger, letting the warmth of his deity wash over him.

"There you go.. I am a bit surprised you took it to the snake like that - I always thought druids and rangers were close with animals."

Looking about the room he speaks to the group.

"Search.. let's sweep this floor - ensure we are good with where we leave it.. and lets get back to the fort. Abernard should be made aware of what has been transpiring in the spire. These serpent men.. they must be the footmen.. something greater lies below I am sure. And it needs to be purged."

With that Agriver begins watching the entrances and exits of the room as the group goes about their business.

Agriver sees his opening and moves past the wolf to swing his blade down onto the serpent.

Agriver lost in his meditations looks up to see his friend attacked by the snake. "Keep it's attention Robin" he says as he contemplates his next move.

Setting his jaw the paladin hefts his blade to the ready and strides forward. "On with it then, best to be sure none of those heritcs are trying to hide."

The zeal of the paladin drains nearly like the blood from his face. Without turning around Agriver mutters. "This is the trap that took me. It winds around and around, and ghostly serpents that are immune to pain herd you toward the middle where they breath poison gas upon you. Vala you may enjoy this, but I would rather not walk this path again."

"No."

When the filth is washed from this area - then we rest.

Without missing a beat Agriver channels holy energy into his blade and moves to throw the door on the left open.

"On me." says the paladin as positive energy drifts off his sword in waves of shimmering energy.

Agriver slows his breathing and let's his goddess guide his blade in two divine strokes.

Agriver dashes forward moving quickly double move arriving next to one of the serpent folk - he quickly channels his goddess to deal her give her grace. smite evil on red

At the mention of his name Agriver focuses on the wounds that have befallen his friend.

"Of course Robin, may the goddesses light shine upon you."

Noticing a common pale of poison he has seen on Vala on his friend he comments. "We will need to rest before I can cleanse your body of the toxin, when we go to town we should invest in several scrolls to prevent this in the future - they are affordable."

When the party rogue gives the go ahead the paladin will move to finish this cursed floor, all the better to put it from his memory.

"We should finish our work here. I need to prepare - the wicked will all die and this place will be their tomb... I swear it"

Agriver nods at Robin and then looks toward Vala as she finishes her work.

"Let me know when you're ready Vala and I will move to the next room."

Agriver lays hands on Robin letting the holy light wash over him and take his pain away.

He then moves toward the other side of the chamber.

Agriver takes in his surroundings and moves over toward Robin. Praying to Iomadae he channels her strength into the ranger.

"Vala or Robin, can you check the path south?"

Walking over to the fallen corpse of the snakeman the paladin kneels and punches the corpse in the mouth repeatedly with his plate gauntlet until the fangs break free. He tosses one to Vala as a keepsake and puts the other in his pack. Standing he then spits on the fallen body and turns away.

In response to Robin and Ansels question he simply answers "I don't want to talk about it....." as he winces from a private memory.

"I will not make the same mistake... ever again"

His face hardens and he looks for where to go next.

Agriver watches the systematic destruction of the golem at the hands of the ranger and his animal pack and smiles.

Without saying a word he walks up to his friend and lays both hands on the woodsmans shoulders.

Agriver moves toward the construct but sees that there is no way he can reach it with his allies in the way. He looks at the bleeding rogue and moves to lay his hand on her shoulder - his palm radiating a pale golden light.

"Vala, let me help you."

He then looks past the wolf toward Robin. "Robin, are you ok?"

As the sparkling magic the party dwarf washes over Agriver he feels his body relax and come back under his control. Almost immediately his eyes flare with golden holy light and his face contorts to reflect a new rarely seen emotion – rage.

The paladin steps sideways to allow his friend a path for escape while closing his now divine eyes shut tight – letting his goddess be his vengeance.

With that his arms flare as he brings down the blade with all his might, the energy of his deity steeped in the holy blade.

Agriver seemingly as if pulled by an other power lurches forward toward Vala. He grabs the greatsword with both hands and swings in a heavy swings at his friend.

"I TOLD YOU NO HARM WAS TO COME TO HER!!!" he shouts with an obvious look of regret in his eyes.

Agriver nods and steps forward pulling the massive adamantium sword from its scabbard. He delivers a series of vital strikes to the wood around the hinges until the door noisily falls in a clatter.

Is Iomadae's grace dampened? Maybe the woman....?

Agriver frowns and pulls a scroll tube from his belt, he then pulls out a long parchment and starts reading a section of it aloud.

His hand glows over Vala as he channels his spell.

Agriver nods at Robin and thanks Vala for her help. As he stands he moves in front of the woman keeping himself between her and the others.

After some time, his armor and effects are where they should be he holds his hand over Vala and a bright flash radiates.
