Hello gang, I'm slowly bringing each of my games up to speed (sorry, you're #4 out of 5). If I'm still welcome to play, I'd love to continue. Basically I got government support for my mental illnesses, got on new medication, got caught up in a new relationship, and became overwhelmed as everything else piled up. So good things, but I am sorry for disappearing for a very long time. Would anyone be willing to fill me in as to what we've been up to?

Does Khalid have anything on him that would suggest that he and Aakif come from the same culture? I have a specific greeting when meeting fellow Abadarians.

A wave of energy emanates from Aakif as he prays, healing the wounds of Lanatir and Elsa.

"Very well." Aakif answers, and dutifully retreats to Yadalia.

"What do you mean, stand guard?" Aakif asks, confused if Zyrel is trying to protect him, or instruct him to be aware of some unseen reinforcements

"You're swinging like a savage, Lanatir. Calm your emotions and focus on a clean strike. I will aid you shortly."

Aakif furrows his brow and examines the automaton to better understand its abilities.

Engineering: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Unfortunately, Aakif is too busy thinking about horses and how they most certainly do not have feathers.
"Ms. Yadalia, what are these constructs? Why are our bullets doing next to nothing against them?"

Aakif grants himself a magical shield.

Aakif hops down the step and out of line of fire. He levels his pepperbox and takes a shot at the closest automaton.

Pistol: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 17 This is within my first range increment (20ft), so my assumption is it's against Touch AC.
Dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Bonuses to attack are Point-Blank Shot and Bless
Bonuses to damage are Point-Blank Shot and Weapon Attunement +1

Question. I see a door/grate thing between us and Lanatir. What is it?

Gunslinger is a bit of a pain in the butt for passive bonuses with 1 grit point and so on.

Aakif will grant guidance to anyone else to decides to hop the conveyor belt

Aakif reloads, waiting for Lanatir to either destroy them, or to get hurt just a little more to make the healing worth it.

Aakif takes a shot with his pepperbox to test the reflexes of the lanterns.

Aakif follows after Lanatir, blessing him with [u]guidance[/u] as he opens the door.

"Construct with souls sounds most concerning. We as people have limits. Constructs, if they have mind and soul, there is no knowing where their limits may be. How might they fare against the might of dragons, giants, and creatures of the deep? And if they are as capable as us, if not more so, then what chance may the kingdoms of humanity have against such forces? I pray such constructs with souls shall find faith, and join us rather than oppose us."

In the next room
Aakif looks to the rest of the group and whispers "Hit it until it stops moving?"

Okay, let's just hold onto the Bless until just before we open the next door

Aakif grants the party the blessings of Abadar.
"Fear not, Zyrel, Abadar's grace will protect us."

Casting bless. +1 to hit, +1 on saves against fear. Lasts 5 minutes.

I just looked it up, and I'm not capable of casting Open/Close. It's not a cleric spell.

I don't know if we have fifteen minutes. I had the feeling it was time sensitive, but then again, if it's all machines, then what's the hurry?

Aakif closes his eyes and briefly prays. Then he loads his pistol.
"Abadar, the Almighty, protect us in our mission."

I didn't prepare Open/Close. I am the light-bearer, though.

Glad to hear things are looking up, GM. I have mental health stuff that makes things difficult, so I might be able to relate.

"You should see Mr. Lanatir in action." Aakif replies. "Let's run."

Aakif doesn't want to crowd the store, so he decides to lay out his tapestry and begin prayer on the side of the street.

Aakif will loiter around the front of the store while Elsa sneaks around. He doesn't want to inadvertently abandon her.

Aakif asks Elsa outside the store. "Would you be interested, Miss Elsa, in going around the back of the shop? Markets looks grand and proper from the front, but the back is where they hide their dark secrets."

Aakif uses this time to pray and prepare some spells to aid him in the upcoming task.

Oh I see. You'd enchant something like a dagger, stab us, and instantly know our location.

"Certainly" Aakif answers, somewhat swallowing his pride. "Would you please enlighten us on what the wares are that we should be looking for?"

Well it's less about Zyrel's throw, and more about it you can hit the thrown object. The object would have an AC.

I was using the mechanics of the Cut from the Air feat, which is an opposed attack roll. Zyrel was making reference to Lanatir's level 5 feat. Lanatir will not need to hit a bullet's AC to delfect it, but rather beat the shooter's attack roll.

Well that certainly streamlines it. Just not quite as exciting.

I have heard stories about magic here failing. Not fond of that idea

"Excellent." Aakif replies with resignation. "I am certain we will have plenty to talk about."

I'd like to purchase in Jalmeray a Beneficial Bandolier, and a Ring of Feather Falling. I'd also like to sell my hemp rope and replace it with silk rope.

Aakif has several questions for the ship or his companions who are familiar with their destination.
- What are the primary faiths in Alkenstar?
- Is it truly impossible to cast magic in Alkenstar and the surrounding Mana Wastes?
- Are there any important local laws that need to be known?

Aakif has to do a double-take when coming across the business known as Abadar Industries. He isn't sure whether to be amazed or offended that a company is named after Abadar himself. He prays that they conduct themselves more in faith than in profit.

Aakif is a Kelish man, standing several inches shorter than Finch. Although he wears a shirt of mail, underneath is a robe of radiant blue cotton. He also wears a silk sash of gold, and a scarf to match, which is partially hidden due to the man's massive black beard. He wears a blue headdress over his hair, and around his neck is a golden key pendant. Aakif's eyes are always stern and piercing, except on the occasions in which he laughs. For weapons he carries a dagger, and on his hip rests a pepperbox pistol.

"Greetings, Miss Finch." Aakif says as he places his right hand over his chest. "I am Aakif Al-Khismia Al-Katapesh. I am a faithful servant of Abadar (may He be praised and exalted). Please be welcome as my companions introduce themselves."

Aakif thanks Shabhala for the information, and when everyone is ready, will bid him farewell.

Given we're using Automatic Bonus Progression, how much monies should a lvl 5 character start with?

@GM, do you have a preference between rolling hp and taking 1/2+1?
