The storm subsides, leaving our adventurers coughing up salty water and rubbing their bruises. Azura shakes out a couple of healing spells from her wand, one helping Loenor, the other helping someone else (Who?)

Looking around for what may happen next, Loenor notices the deck is empty, save for the adventurers. Marzack and Anera are the first to emerge from belowdecks, looking somewhat weathered from the effort of controlling the ship in the storm

Heh, looks like the storm roughened you up good. Liara senses that they are not really interested in the adventurer's wellbeing.

And who is responsible? the first mate answers with a smirk I didn't hear you call me captain Mallick, so it must be someone else.

I was never in that cabin until the murder happened. Remember that Sephriel was using it - I was sleeping in the crew's cabin. Bloody stink.

I thought you were the ones trying to prove their innocence. Marzack scoffs.

Yeah, so? the first mate responds. If you recall, everyone except Ulamon and the captain were below. Killick just had a single look at the corpse, didn't even try to help. And that bodyguard? Gone! I swear to you, I heard him and Sephriel fight just moments before.

Liara:

This guy is probably quite used to juicing up his stories, and he is juicing them up good.

Look, I was in the captain's cabin when it happened, so I can't have done it. That's all.

What the PCs remember:

Mallick was the first to come up from belowdecks after the murder, which means he wasn't in the captain's cabin at the time, which is on the aft side of the main deck.

I have the key, so the lock must have been tampered with. Did you speak to Anera? You would have noticed that your kind disgusts her. the first mate says, implying that would explain it all.

Trying to frame someone else for the murder, eh? I was with that idiot of a captain we keep around here, talking 'bout crew discipline, when I heard the commotion. If I were you, I'd talk to Killick. He was first on the scene of the crime, but - as a cleric - did nothing to help Sephriel. Don't trust that old pirate!

Mallick looks smugly at Liara, contemptuous and taunting.

Ah, the murder hobos. Out for more blood? Mallick, rude at first, mellows a bit at the sight of the Aasimar. Alright, ask away.
