Friday afternoon, 2015

Event organized by Paizo Event utilizes official Pathfinder content Game

Out of Retirement

Friday afternoon, 1:00–6:00 pm, 2015 • Cascade 7

Wish you could play one of the retired Season 0 Pathfinder Society scenarios for official credit? This is a rare chance to do just that. For six lucky Pathfinders, one scenario will be brought out of retirement, updated to the Pathfinder RPG rules set, revamped and revised, and run as an official Pathfinder Society event. This scenario will be determined by the participants ahead of time, and will offer an official (updated) Chronicle sheet upon completion.

As a Pathfinder Society Organized Play event, it is strongly recommended that participants bring a legal Pathfinder Society character of the appropriate level (with accompanying Chronicle sheets). Pregenerated characters will be available for any player who do not have such a character.

Participants should email John Compton (john.compton@paizo.com) with up to three votes for which retired scenario to play. See http://paizo.com/pathfinderSocietyScenarios/retired for a list of options.

If you are signed up for this event, be sure to list your three top preferences for the scenario that you would like me to update and run. I will do my best to choose a scenario that appeals to as many people as possible. I do need to figure this out by May 15th so that I have enough time to prepare. Of course, the earlier, the better.

If you signed up for this event and are planning to trade it away, please don't post your preferences.

The Asmodeus Mirage
Blood at Dralkard Manor
The Eternal Obelisk
Eye of the Crocodile King
Hands of the Muted God
In Service to Lore
Skeleton Moon
Stay of Execution
The Third Riddle
To Delve the Dungeon Deep
The Trouble with Secrets
A Vision of Betrayal

I'm looking forward to updating another adventure and running it folks at PaizoCon. Last year went really well, and I'm sure this year will be even better!

Silver Crusade

Hi, John! Sent the email earlier. I've listed my three below in order of interest:

10: Blood at Dralkard Manor
15: The Asmodeus Mirage
19: Skeleton Moon

Thanks for updating and running one of the retirees!

In Service to Lore ... isn't retired... is it?

Congrats to everyone who got this event!

Scarab Sages

Hi John,

Have sent an email, but just in case :)

10: Blood at Dralkard Manor
11: The Third Riddle
19: Skeleton Moon

Thanks for running this, really looking forward to playing.

This is clearly what I get for copy/pasting Mark Moreland's list. *Shakes fist at Mark*

No, In Service to Lore is not retired.

Hi! Looks like we requested a lot of the same scenarios. Wonder where the other four players are? Figured they would have voted by now. Maybe they were thrown off by Mark's "In Service to Lore is a retired scenario" fake out. :-)

What level are you looking to play at? I have a variety of characters between 1 and 6, so I'm fairly open.

Later!

Hey everyone, I hit the jackpot! Just to do a quick introduction, I too have a staple of characters ranging from 1-7. I have my favorites though. I'll post my full roster once I make it home. For now, here is my three picks I had previously sent to John.

1) The Third Riddle
2) Blood at Dralkard Manor
3) The Trouble With Secrets

Scarab Sages

I have a few characters to play in the 1 - 7 range.

Probably looking to play either my 5th Weapon Adept, Wandering Monk or my 4th level Cartomancer Witch.

It'll be good to know what to bring with me though as I'll be flying from the UK, reducing the amount of character packs down would make life a bit easier for me :)

While making this list, the thought had occurred to me about whether or not this would be Core. I'm leaving those characters off my list.

Tsriel's Roster:

Tsubaki Akimora, Ninja 6
Edward O'Healy, Warpriest 2
Terago Quintillis, Ranger 7
Aura Akroma, Oradin of Shelyn 6
"Oni", Bloodrager 3
Soveliss LeShea "The Twice-Grandmothered Mage of Destiny", Summoner 3
Cicero Ysond, Life Oracle 3
Win Nao "The Poorly Named Warrior Monk" 3
Adeielody Sunstrider, Arcanist 3
Issei, Unchained Rogue 1

Of those 10 characters, I'm particularly fond of Aura, Oni, and Adeielody. However, I play to balance out the table. I'm fine with playing anything really.

Wow, quite a ways. I'm only coming from Portland, roughly a three hour drive south of the convention. ^_^

I would like to narrow it down on what to bring too so as to not literally having to prep all 26 of my PFS characters for the convention.

Paizo Employee Developer

The current trend is one of the Tier 1–5 or 1–7 adventures, but I haven't heard from three of the participants. I'll be making the final decision on the 15th.

Don't peek!

Dark Archive

So. Jealous... and no tradeable events, either.

Maybe next year!

One day! You're definitely a messageboard regular that I'd like to play a game with at some point.

Grand Lodge

I think I liked my first lottery draw better than the second. Maybe next year. :)

I've actually sat at one of his online tables before. It was an enjoyable experience. Same for TOZ too. I think he's sat at one of my online tables once before as well.

My wife and I are two of the players in this game. I played Blood at Dralkard Manor years ago and my wife only has a 3rd level character, so our preferences are:

The Third Riddle
Skeleton Moon
Eye of the Crocodile King

I otherwise have a full range of characters from 2nd to 16th level.

By the way, my son got a ticket to the Out of Retirement scenario on Monday morning. If one of you would be OK with playing with Mark Moreland on Monday morning instead, let me know and we'll coordinate a trade, we'd like all three of us to play together if possible. If not, that's OK, he'll figure out something else to do in this slot.

Silver Crusade

Only coming from Baton Rouge myself - not quite as far as some of you. Should be a fun table.

As far as character roster in the 1-7 range:

Brett's Roster:

Buldar Skullcracker - Dwarf Fighter 6
Cratos Skullcracker - Dwarf Cleric 4
Man Mountain Marco - Oread Brawler 1/Bloodrager 1
Jester Bolofsky - Aasimar Bard 5
Antoni Voldanoi - Human Magus Cardcaster 2
Esme Skullcracker - Dwarf Witch 2
BAM! - Gnome Alchemist 3
Unformed 1st level GM credit baby.

Have other characters, but they are too high level or locked into playing other scenarios. And no, the rest are not dwarves. Been on a dwarf kick lately.

So if one of us has done Blood Manor, then it looks like The Third Riddle is the frontrunner.

Also, so much star/VO power here. XD

@Thamius
Sorry, I'm not trading. Not that I wouldn't, it's just that my schedule is already packed full of stuff that I don't want to miss.

Silver Crusade

Don't count out Skeleton Moon. It's on all our lists I believe.

And it looks like we're closing on a level range. It seems like some people are wanting to play around 3-4 tier. Which works for me.

@ Thamius

And my apologies as well, I can't switch to Monday due to scheduling. Though oddly enough, I know two guys at the Monday table. I can inquire if they would be interested in swapping with you and your wife if you wish.

Actually Skeleton Moon is not on my list. I am not picky. Having been involved with society play for only 18 months, there are still a lot of material that I have yet to experience.

Trading for two tickets in the Monday game might work, too, I just figured swapping one seat would be easier than two. Then Dralkard Manor would be back on the table for you guys!

Dark Archive

Yay! Nebten sends his regards, but can't attend the con...

So I swapped a seminar seat for this game.

I can bring anything (literally anything, I have a rebuild boon and a PC who has failed to gel into a character that I want to continue playing); I can play any of the retired scenarios but would infinitely prefer something with interesting story.

Dralkard has seemed like the most interesting of the retired scenarios by description, but I"m up for any of them (They all retired before I really got started in Society play)

TetsujinOni wrote:

Well, well, well... Looks like we get to play again, Dralkard is possibly back on the menu, and John gets to meet another forum fly. XD

Scarab Sages

Yey :)

Im one of the guys Brett knows at the Monday table. Do yall still need to switch?

Scarab Sages

I am the other,
I put a trade up
Let us know if you still want to swap.

Turns out we can't switch to Monday morning, we got into another non-PFS lottery event in that slot. I appreciate the offer, however. No, our hope was to see if someone would switch to Monday morning, but it was always a long shot. See y'all in less than two weeks!

So, John, what scenario are we going to play?

I suspect he's not going to say until the 14th. :-)

Regardless of scenario, you mentioned your wife has a 3rd level character, and the rest of us were sounding pretty flexible, so it's looking like Tier 3-4. Got a 4th level cleric I can use who channels positive energy. Those are always popular at conventions.

Tier 3-4 leaves me with five options. All of them at level three. It's a fairly well-rounded group too.

Dark Archive

Tsriel wrote:

Battle Oracle 5 or Alchemist 3... or a GM credit blob who is headed for Ifrit Paladin / Kineticist if there's not something that strikes my fancy for this table.

Silver Crusade

OK, we just need John to let us know the adventure and tiers, and we can nail down our group.

Paizo Employee Developer

It looks like we're virtually tied between three adventures, all of which work well for a Tier 1–5 group. Plan around that level range, and we should be in good shape.

I have one I'm leaning toward—particularly given the interest in an interesting plot—and I'll be figuring out the details over the weekend.

Well if we're leaning towards picking something, I'm leaning towards playing my bloodrager or arcanist. "Oni" will be hitting level 4 tonight, assuming he survives The Mauler.

Dark Archive

So I'll be playing with people who know me by TetsujinOni.... playing my aasimar Crusader....

with another player named Oni?

That's hilarious. :)

Silver Crusade

So if we have a bloodrager and a crusader, it sounds like we have some hammers. I can bring a cleric 4 as a healer or a bard 5 as a force multiplier. Both are good arms.

TetsujinOni wrote:

I know your real name. :P

You've heard mine although you might not remember it. It's not Oni. lol

EDIT: "Oni" survived The Mauler. Yay for hitting level 4. ^_^

Scarab Sages

I should like to play my Human Cartomancer Witch 4 for this if that works.

Hopefully that can fit in.

Looking forward to meeting you all :)

Dark Archive

Crusader is a self-buffing battle oracle, she's a slow-roll hammer.

I love bards; for a 1-5 we can probably switch hit off of Helen's healing resources (wands of CLW to share that load welcome, of course).

Yes, Helen is a slightly... off... follower of Nethys. Oracle.

Party composition so far looks like:

Bloodrager 4
Oracle 5
Cleric 4 or Bard 5
Witch 4

That's a solid team right there. The other two players could play whatever and only add to the diversity.

Well if I end up using the bard, it will definitely speed up your buffing process. My opener is usually +3 hit/+2 damage/+6 vs fear (Battle Cry plus Inspire Courage).

I hit pretty hard already with Oni. That would just bump it to ridiculous levels. XD

Silver Crusade

John,

Any word yet on the scenario we'll be playing? Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

Thanks!

Silver Crusade

Hmm, no word yet. Therefore it is imperative that our group is prepared for the nastiest encounters possible. Like an Owlbeartross Magus. And his grindylow alchemist buddy/lunch. Or maybe The return of Xanesha, original version. :-)

sowhereaminow wrote:

I honestly wouldn't expect anything until we sat down at the table... >_>

Thank you for reminding me to make use of that small mound of coin I've been sitting on. ^_^

Paizo Employee Developer

Yep, I have it figured out. It was a tie between a few adventures, and I went with the one that clicked with me more after re-reading them. Brace yourselves for Groetus's sickle grin in Skeleton Moon!

Whoa, work went crazy for a week and I missed a lot! My wife has an investigator 3 so traps and knowledges are covered, and I have lots of options- oread warpriest 4, ifrit swashbuckler 3 GM baby, elf arcanist 3 GM baby, and a kitsune summoner 4 whose god Jaidz is masquerading as his eidolon. You can't convince him otherwise! Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
