Not the ending that I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing. I enjoyed getting to see a bit of a wizards' duel!
I'm a little sad that it will be a full month (plus shipping time) before I can read the rest of Krunzle's adventures.
Overall, I found the writing style interesting. I would like to continue that line of thought a bit more while I am not a work, though.

Seemed a bit too easy of an escape, to me, though it was enjoyable. Would mom not know that her daughter could walk past the snake? She had her locked in a room before... Was hoping for the apprentice to show some of her magical talent, maybe to do a little snake charming. Also, she must be pretty dextrous to traverse a line from one roof to the other in a shift. Maybe she's multiclass rogue?
I like the idea that the thief's only purpose was as a diversion, but it was unclear what the wizard's goal was. Not that Krunzle would know, but something from the priestess as a clue would have added something. I enjoyed the description of the mage battle, but if I was Krunzle, I would not have stuck around to watch... curiosity kills thieves.
All in all, I'm intrigued by Krunzle and look forward to Song of the Serpent. Hmmm, may it have something to do with the disgruntled priestess? More snakes... ;-)
