Also, do we remember our prior life at all or has it been River Stix'd?

Is there no mythic ability/feat to improve poisons?

Monkeygod wrote:

Yup you do remember your past life. You can have your memories removed if you want to. I imagine some people would rather forget so I will give that option

Alyarah Vloocahdae wrote:

Ummm, I am not really familiar with poison builds. There’s probably atleast one with how many abilities were written. Maybe check the deity related ones under urgothoa or calistra?

Alyarah Vloocahdae wrote:

Tier 1 Ability: Savored Sting (Su) [Calistria] (Mythic Origins pg. 8): As a free action after making a successful melee attack, you can expend one use of mythic power to poison the target. A successful Fortitude save (DC = 10 + your tier + your Con modifier) negates the poison. This poison deals 1d3 points of Dexterity damage and 1d3 points of Charisma damage per round for a number of rounds equal to your tier. The duration is halved for poisoned mythic creatures.

Tier 3 Ability: Blackfingers' Blessing (Su) [Norgorber] (Mythic Origins pg. 10): You can expend one use of mythic power to instantly coat your weapon and your allies' weapons in a poison that you are carrying on your person. This ability only applies poison to the weapons your allies are currently wielding (the weapons they are merely carrying are unaffected), and there is no chance of accidentally poisoning yourself or your allies. You must be carrying a number of doses of poison equal to the number of weapons you wish to apply the poison to, and the doses of poison are consumed in the process of using this ability. Only willing allies can have their weapons affected by this ability.

That’s all I know of.

Since I'm taking With This Sword as one of my special abilities, do I have to pay the extra modifier when combining multiple items? I'm specifically intending to combine several cloaks into one.

Also, just as an FYI, I opted against making my cloak a legendary item. There's just too many other awesome trickster path abilities I wanna take that are perfect for my overall concept.

Well I did tell alyarah her staff would be subject to the combining magic items rule if she wants to combine items so your cloak will be as well

Do we have to be reincarnated as an adult? Or just that we need to be an adult by game start?

If we have to be reincarnated as one, how does that affect us having families? Could we just be reborn (even as an adult) into some random, preexisting family?

Asking cuz part of the Ten Minute Background is to have relationships, and obviously family is a good source for them. I realize they could be from our prior lives, but that's not nearly as interesting and fun as having them be from our current fantasy life...

Monkey god: yes you are all adults(pathfinder’s definition so 15 for humans etc) when reincarnated. However you can choose to have a “birth family” or adoptive family when you are reincarnated so yes you can be reborn into a prexisting family if you want.

I realise now that not allowing you to choose to have a family might hamper your backstories so yes feel free to include a family anyway you see fit.

One way I can see it be justified is like in ravenloft where souls are limited so some people are without one for a certain period of time. Or it could simply be you get the memories of living with this family for however many years. Up to you

Nope it doesn’t even have to manifest as a physical being either. It could be a voice in your head or a system if you wish. The only thing that is consistent is you die, you are given a choice on powers for your new life then you emerge in the new world

I didn't get that we decide how the change went, I thought it will be same for everyone...it changes things a bit - I need to adjust the backstory a bit

Questions:

1. I know I'm asking for stuff, but I didn't take legendary item :) so...can I have a minor ioun stone to power up the bracers? Or should that be my short term goal :)

2. How much time are we in this world? Do we know *anything*? Tavik is from Faerun, he would be clueless about the world, but not about magic and monsters

3. The alias is filled with race, templates, 10-minute background and skills

4. ToDo: Schools and resonant powers and skills
5. ToDo: Mythic feats and powers
6. ToDo: Full story

Only three items simplifies things a lot :D - one of the goals is how to create items like that

Facts we know.
1. We were all isekai'd to a fantasy world. (yay for us!)
2. We all know each other. Likely meaning most of us were raised either in the same area or same village/town (I'm going village because tropes).
3. We all likely have our memories from our previous life. If we didn't, then why make this an isekai campaign.
4. If we all know each other, possibly raised together, and a come from another world, it is also plausibly one of us blurted out a fact or reference that only someone from Earth would know, causing the collective group to realize we've all been reborn from another world. This realization likely made our bond stronger.

Postulates.
* If we all came from the same village/town, there must have been a sudden birth spike as we incarnated, and was likely seen as a 'Boon from the Gods'. (Especially those who are aasimar or have Celestial templates)
* It is likely the Elders of the village/town wished us to take over for them. But with Destiny's Hand clearly on our shoulders, the Elders made sure we had opportunity to grow into the heroes we would become.

I didn't read that we have to be from the same world - I picked up Amn because of faintly arabic feel of Amn :) But that can just as easily be Istambul or Kairo or whatever from real world

My understanding was that we each write our own story...did I miss some post(s)?

All of our characters know each other? Tavik is from Faerun. Gazul is from Golarion. And the GM said “I am allowing a choice on where you want to be an adventurer who died and reincarnated or an ordinary person from another world who gets isekaied.”

I stand corrected.

Tavik: 1. You can have one minor ioun stone
2. Up to you but you must include a reason in your backstory. So you can train with your sword for five years like Lysander if you want before you set out for adventure

Reincarnation mechanics: You are either from the fantasy world, dying there and getting a second chance at life or you are from earth and you are given the chance to isekai.

You all were picked up by the being at the same time. When you were reborn, you were informed you aren’t the only one reborn this way and that there are others. You are not incarnated at the exact same time to allow for backstories like Lysander who wants to train for a bit before adventure

You need not be incarnated at the same town or same village but it should be in the same country. Close enough that a call to adventure will be plausibly heard by all of you

You have the memories of your old lives unless you ask in your backstory to have them removed

You write your own story in the sense that you can decide where you are from, where you end up, your motives and stuff like that. The only things that are set is the stuff above.

Earth is the one you know obviously and I haven’t decided what to call the fantasy world yet. You cannot be from or in Faerun/ Golarion but honestly you can just change the name of the planet if it is mentioned in your backstory. It’s a fantasy world so the elements in your backstories can still happen in this world

Tavik: I did say you can write your own story but I also said it has to follow certain guidelines which I listed partially in the OP and partially in the thread as more questions came up. I am collating it here

For instance, Gazul you don’t actually need to change your backstory. You can still be from an underground city of duegar and you can still die from being overworked. It’s just instead of the world being Golarion it’s this anime world.

Likewise Tavik you don’t have to change much either and you can keep the Arabic feel by just changing it so that you are from an Arabic region on earth.

I will likely open gameplay on Friday or Saturday, my week is pretty stuffed until then

No problem, I can just find a suitable city with silk and relic trade, likely Egypt or Istambul depending on time period or even alexandria before the burning

Now that I think about it your death doesn’t have to be at a specific time. Let’s say for convenience if you died on earth, it has to just be during or after the 20th century. So Egypt or Istanbul will likely be the best options

The reason for the relative openness of your backstory is because I don’t want to really restrict you on such elements. You only need to have died on a modernish(20th century onwards) earth and gotten isekaied or died in the fantasy world and gotten reborn

Works for me. Also, said deity of the Duegar can be any, as Gazul won’t be following it. Should this fantasy world have such a patron deity, just let me know.

Likewise, I’m down with said duegar being Golarion-esque or Faerun-esque. Just let me know and I’ll roll with it.

Droskar Is the pathfinder duergar god so he can be the god of them here as well. The duegar will be more pathfinder-esque

Is it okay to be already from Golarion? For Laere, I wrote the story as if she was a spy from the Kitharodian Academy that ended up betrayed, died, and was reborn (actually, sprouted should I say?) as a "plant-like" version of her original form.

Laere Milav wrote:

GM: "Reincarnation mechanics: You are either from the fantasy world, dying there and getting a second chance at life or you are from earth and you are given the chance to isekai."

Just like how Gazul can't be from Golarion, I'm assuming neither can Laere. However, the GM has allowed Gazul to be from a Golarion-esque Duegar city, who have a deity called Droskar (just like in Golarion). I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that the answer to your question will be similar to the one that I got for Gazul.

Mechanics Question:

Quote from rules: "When a psychic spellcaster becomes mythic, she can treat her psychic spells as either arcane or divine for the purposes of any mythic abilities she gains. This does not change the actual nature of her spellcasting, but it allows her to make use of certain mythic abilities she would otherwise be unable to use. Once this choice between arcane and divine is made, it cannot be changed."

-----

Gazul has this: Psychic Magic: Duergar tyrants can cast ironskin (2 PE) and mind thrust I (1 PE) as per the psychic magic universal monster rule (see page 2). The caster level is equal to the duergar tyrant’s total character level. Duergar tyrants have a reservoir of 5 PE per day.

He also has this: Mage Strike (Su) As a swift action, you can expend one use of mythic power to make one melee attack. This is in addition to any other attacks you make this round. If you expend one arcane spell that you’ve prepared or arcane spell slot that you have available, you gain a bonus on the attack roll equal to double the spell’s or slot’s level, and the attack deals an additional 2d6 points of energy damage (your choice of acid, cold, electricity, or fire) per level of the spell or slot expended. The normal damage from this attack bypasses all damage reduction, but the energy damage is still affected by resistances and immunities.

Would you be amenable to using these two together? That is, using the PE reservoir for mage strike?

For example. mind thrust is a lvl 1 spell that takes 1 PE point. Therefore, +2 hit, +2d6 damage.
Ironskin is a lvl 2 spell that takes 2 PE points. Therefore, +4 hit, +4d6 damage.

Not Golarion but for all intents and purposes your story works. Since I am allowing the duergar society to be worship Droskar, I suppose you can be a spy for the academy. You can either keep it as the kitharodian academy or you can rename it to something else.

Gods are the same as pathfinder gods so you can still worship callistria

Remember people your backstories will likely stay the same. At most you may need to rename one or two locations. Like Laere who can choose if they want to keep the academy’s name or rename it

Gazul: yes you may use mage strike with your psychic energy. In that case all your psychic spells will count as arcane spells for the purposes of interacting with mythic abilities

Sounds like a plan! There are also mechanical reasons for my deity (Calistria), domain (Deception), and affiliation (Kitharodian Academy), so if it's okay I'll keep them - maybe assuming they match the ones in the "new world" she founds herself in and things align well enough to work mechanically when needed.

Laere it will probably be fine

For backstories, as long as it is coherent and the story makes sense I will accept it. If there are some problems that come up, I can always just work it out with you and retcon it so no worries

So the large city (similiar to Absablom) that Catador is from is in the fantasay world the campaign takes place in.

I suggest for the fantasy world to have one that is similar to the Inner Sea region area with an 'Absalom' city (on the island of 'Kortos'), but unlike on Golarion, the sections of the mainlands near the isle (and the metropolitation 'Absalom' city) are part of the same country that 'Absalom' (and 'Kortos') are part of (instead of being different countries like they are on Golarion). This would cover you wanting us to all be from the same country but not necessarily the same city/town/village - and it covers temperate areas of the country (the mainland north of the island of 'Kortos'), mostly arabic areas of the country (the mainland east and southeast of the island of 'Kortos) and mostly 'Egypt/Africa' areas of the country (the mainland south of the island of 'Kortos') - that way all the varied character backstories/backgrounds work being from various different climates/cultures that are part of the country our characters were from during their first lifetimes (or were isekaied into after their first life).

Question: Ones who are orignially from the fantasy world, do we have to look different when we did in life when we were given our 'second life'?

Hey GM I am working on my character now. Since you allowed me to be a Ghoran with +2 int instead of +2 Cha, i will be making a wizard

Her special powers will be:
1st: template: Eruphyte(CR +1) and advanced (CR +1)
2nd: Alternate capstone: Perfect Body Flawless Mind (Int)
3rd: Witch hexes

Her backstory is she was once a witch who lived in her own little corner of the world until an unexpected situation( a battle between two higher level wizards) caught her off guard and resulted in her death. Her spirit headed for the afterlife before being picked for reincarnation and she chose to have her astral spirit be put into a modified Ghoran form because she read previously that doing so will result in a more intelligent being(fluff for Eruphyte template). She wished for an unearthly intellect and is putting her new mind to good use studying the intricacy of magic as a wizard. She also opted to retain some knowledge on hexes that she accumulated from her previous life. Her goal is to study magic so deeply with her new intellect that she will never be caught off guard like that gain

Her int will be massive but otherwise she is a fairly normal build(as normal as builds of this power scale can be)

AGM Lemming name? Kharl - race? Human - class? Cleric - path? Hierophant

I don't want to be from 'the real world' and reincarnated to this one. That leads to issues of knowing about technology, etc.

This is my CS. Still have some work to do, listed at the top. If I've made any glaring errors...., let me know. PM or post. Yes, I'm human, just like Kharl! I'm sure we both make errors.

Maybe we all know each other because we were reincarnated together?

Not an “error” per se, but we’re using the same face. :P

I intentionally left Lysander’s backstory rather generic so he can come from wherever. Could even have been from medieval Earth, thought the GM seems to have foreclosed that option. As far as how we know each other now, I’m up for whatever. I stopped his backstory at spending a few years in a nobleman’s service (what Game of Thrones would call a “sworn sword”) but there could easily be some time after that that he spent as a wandering hedge knight/ronin type of figure and met y’all then. Or he encountered some of you while serving his lord. We’ll figure it out.

Sorry, not sorry for asking some questions that sparked so much conversation! LOL

Bout to do it again:

Do you have any info for us on our new world? Like, what sort of nations/kingdoms/organizations/etc there might be?

You've said a few times that Golarion's deities are present in this world. Are they more or less the same as their published versions? Also, are there any gods unique to this setting?

I was thinking of being from Earth, and using my IRL life as inspiration. Thus, my PC was born in 1981, somewhere(possibly NYC) in the US. Is that okay?

Out of sheer curiosity, if we write up a more extensive TMB, could we earn another boon? Maybe not another special power(though, I would not say no to that, lol), but perhaps an extra mythic feat/path ability, more starting gold, or something along those lines?

Obviously, still a WIP, but got a lot of my sheet done. As I said, he's an uber skill monkey/infiltrator/assassin.

Might change his moniker and/or profile pic as well.

@Lysander the Swordsman
Well, you had that face first....

Any suggestion for my one extra language?

Given that you have the Fire and Earth domains, Ignan or Terran would make sense. Possibly Sylvan or First Speech, if you had much interaction with Fey.

Thanks. That makes good sense. Terran. And maybe the others later.

Catador: you can choose your new form so you can look the same as from when you died or completely different if you want.

And that is a good idea Catador I will use it

Frillfrill: go for it

Karl: something like that, you know there are others like you with special powers and you would be able to sense the mythic powers in each other when you meet.

Monkeygod: I haven’t decided the names of the country and regions(I am horrible at naming things) but the Kingdom will be essentially a coalition of smaller nations(the different regions Catador mentioned) linked together by treaties. Think of the alliance from WoW. Kingdoms will be similar to those found on Golarion. There will be various national(covering the alliance) guilds: like the trackers who search for leads on monsters and gathers info on them, adventurers guild who puts that info to use by sending adventurers after them.

Yes they are mostly the same as the ones on Golarion. There are but they are much more obscure so none of you would know about them yet

Sure I said after the 20th century so 1981 is fine

If your TMB is more extensive I can give you an extra mythic ability/feat sure. Same goes for everyone else

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@Elioa

Is what I have already typed up for TMB enough to qualify for an extra mythic ability/feat?

If not, the bit that would probably be the easiest to expand is his time in the afterlife with his father before he was returned to life.

Part of the abilities he has in his second life are things that will help prevent him from being mistaken for a ghoul like he was in life. He no longer needs to breathe, drink, eat or sleep (so no need to eat animal carcassess like he did in life).

His appearance in his second life will be the same height and relative build, but instead of looking anorexic he looks healthy and well-toned.

I will create a Hero Forge mini for him.

Catador: that’s very good actually. Maybe just expand on your 3 npc relationships a bit more. Tell me a bit more about the background of them. With that you can get the extra MA

Thumbs up on the rest of your post

Likewise please let me know what could use beefing up for the extra ability.

Same - very happy to add more details if needed. I love Laere and I don't mind adding more backstory and context to her :)

For both Laere and Gazul: give me 3 memories that are related to each of your important NPCs, something like the moment that defined your relationship or otherwise some significant interaction that was memorable

Then you can add a MA or MF

Also a reminder for all players, list your selected MA and MF as well as special powers in a separate spoiler under you alias so I can tell what they are at a glance.

Adding this to background:

Karduun Ironfist

1) Before Gazul lost his sight, he was a young apprentice. When one of the human slaves collapsed from a heatstroke, Gazul did not immediately step into the position to continue the work. Karduun, seeing this, struck Gazul in the back of the head with a steel pipe. "The metal does not wait, neither do I." This was but one lesson among many that taught that hesitation led to pain.

2) Early in his training, Gazul mishandled liquid steel and suffered severe burns. Karduun didn’t punish him for failure: he forced him to continue working through the pain, saying that pain was proof the body still functioned. Gazul learned that pain was not the body's way of telling him to stop… it was an expectation.

3) Once, after completing an especially difficult commission, Karduun paused and inspected Gazul’s work in silence. For a brief moment, Gazul felt something close to pride. Karduun simply said, “Acceptable,” and walked away. It was the highest praise he had ever received. The work did not increase, nor did it slow, or even change. The toil was unending.

Veska Ironfist

1) A treasured memory of his was working a long shift beside her. No words were spoken, there was just the rhythm of hammering and the hiss of metal. At the end, their eyes met briefly. No smile, no acknowledgment. But he felt something that he could not described, and which he had no words to explain.

2) For a brief moment Gazul had paused, to admire the way that the liquid steel flowed and moved. He caught her eye, and the two "wasted" a handful of seconds watching it together. He felt contentment in that moment, a feeling he mistook for guilt.

3) Towards the end, when his hearing and his eyesight failed him, he nearly died working with the liquid steel. She saved his life, pulling him back from the brink. The touch of another person that was not associated with pain was a new sensation. He thought of it, even when he later died, alone and in the dark.

Karl Hemmer

1) Gazul first heard Karl humming quietly while working: something soft, almost fragile. It was his first experience with music.

2) Gazul only understood the concept of work and trade. In exchange for (required) rest from work, he had Karl teach him the common tongue. Much of the ideas of 'freedom', 'mercy' and even basic empathy were slowly worked into these lessons. It was difficult for Gazul to grasp the concept of words which he didn't even know in his own tongue.

3) After Karl’s tongue was removed, the forge became unbearably quiet. All that he had left were the memories of Karl's songs and his lessons. He was unable to stop himself from listening to the songs in his head when he worked. The memories kept him company, even when his own hearing failed.

Wow that’s more in depth than I expected, well done. You can add the extra MA

Elioa wrote:

Thank you. :)

I decided to take this:

Bonus from extras added to background
* Versatile Skill Mastery (Ex)
- You can select a number of skills equal to your mythic tier. You can now take 10 in these skills even when rushed or threatened, as if you had the skill mastery advanced rogue talent. If you have that advanced rogue talent, these skills are in addition to those you are normally allowed. In addition, you can spend one use of mythic power and one hour of practice to permanently exchange a skill in which you have chosen skill mastery, either through the rogue talent or this path ability, for a different skill.
- If you are at least 3rd mythic tier, you can exchange a skill by practicing for 1 minute rather than one hour. If you are at least 6th mythic tier, you can exchange a skill by practicing for 1 full round, or as an immediate action by spending two uses of your mythic power.
- Sense Motive, Perception, Disable Device with Tools, Knowledge Dungeoneering, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Profession Metallurgy, Stealth, Fly, Acrobatics

Because it felt very Duegar. To have the ability to always do one's work at exactly a 10 level. No great failure. No great success. I see it as being part and parcel with the boon of receiving his ideal body. He also has the ideal of being able to always give the exact center of what his work can be.

But, because there is character growth potential, he is able to take chances and try. Both succeeding and failing, if he chooses to roll the proverbial die.

It seemed more "in character" than my original choice of just having +1 size bonus for his unarmed attacks, via a bonus mythic feat.

I rewrote all of Laere's background and details to feel "more isekai" and less like she was from Golarion. I also added a new section called "Memories with Important NPCs", plus another one with "Mythic Details" giving information on everything I picked for her (except the "new MA or MF", waiting for authorization).

Cheers :)

And the Image of Laere I currently have!

I like the image. It is helpful for visualizing her.

----

Also, for the heck of it, I added the stat block for Gazul when he was alive. Showing what he was like a lvl 1 expert. I found that it helps visualize exactly how much the change was with these build rules.
