Slipp zaps the poltergeist after letting the fleeing boar run around. Restless does not have fetid fume so it is not concealed. The same goes for everyone now that you have eliminated all the big rats.

"Man, that felt good! Good job everyone." She flexes her fingers. "Thanks for the water blast, Ami. I think that set up Jaxon for the kill. Er, rekill."

Fae runs up to her with a medicine kit and Swayaah sighs. "Fae here knows how to treat wounds. Anyone better than her at this?"

Slipp calls the boar over. The boar being much, much larger than the small gnome. They brush the boar, trying to calm it down, before pointing to a spot which nobody else can see. A moment later the boar trots off, vanishing through some type of invisible portal.

"I'm not sure that was fun, but it was exciting!" they say.

Looking around the wounds, Slipp offers. "If lots of folk are wounded, I can breach the barriers to the First World again, the healing energies there would be helpful, and faster than first aid.."

Happy to use a heal if folk want to prioritize time.

"Whew!" Jaxon seems relieved when the flames on him are put out. Then suddenly he makes a dash for the door and barely makes it outside before he gets sick all over the ground. He comes back in wiping his mouth. "Eh, not the first time I've done that, but usually a smoke doesn't trigger it."

The thug drops down on a chair like a sack of potatoes. He waves Erevan away. "Take care of the others first. This will get me back up and running after a while." He pulls out a wayfinder with an aeon stone slotted. He leans back and winces, but closes his eyes. "Just wake me when we need to move."

Pearly white spindle aeon stone restores 1hp per minute. Jaxon will be at full health in 30 minutes without doing anything. Others might need the help more. Jaxon does have a +9 Medicine if needed, but no medicine feats.

Fae bounds over to Ami and waves Swayaah over. "Fae's giving me those puppy dog eyes. I think she wants me to use your Ocean's Balm?" Swayaah doesn't get it, but the water closes her bruise real quick.

"Sweet. That really comes in handy, Ami. Thanks." She coughs a bit. "Now that Jaxon's done, I'm going to get some fresh air to clear up the sinuses."

She gets outside to help with her fear and the smoke inhalation. A few deep breaths help clear her sinuses and her conscious.

"Why don't take your well-deserved uninterrupted 8-hour rest and let's meet again for your third and fourth tasks tomorrow?"

Task #3: Training the Future
Viltydus directs the Pathfinders to a school in Port Valen. The building is a two-story structure that seems large from the outside but is probably cramped for the roughly 300 students who attend. A smattering of children run about in a play area, but most of the building is relatively quiet as the students within attend to their classes.

Viltydus beams at the school’s entrance. “This is my favorite place in town. The potential that radiates from this building is stunning. Many of these young people will become crafters or sailors or scholars, but some will become true heroes. One particular student with real talent and tenacity has caught my attention. I task you to inspire this individual to realize their destiny as an adventurer!”

"For your third task, I want you to convince Huali to focus on their field of interest and use their learning to pursue a heroic career, perhaps even as a Pathfinder initiate. She is a Mahwek girl that has a kind heart and a passion for justice for those who have led difficult lives, especially when arising from others’ cruelty. Unfortunately, her parents have discouraged her keen interest in Iomedae’s faith because they don’t want their daughter following a goddess whom they believe has Azlanti origins." they tell them.

Viltydus quickly leaves them when the doors open to release the students from their studies. Soon enough, they easily find the student Viltydus has described for them.

To encourage the student to pursue a heroic career, the PCs must first pique their curiosity and make one skill check attempt with DC 20 Diplomacy, DC 17 Iomedae Lore, DC 20 Religion, DC 20 Society, DC 19 Herbalism Lore, DC 22 Medicine, or DC 22 Nature. Successive checks from others using the same skill already rolled by other PC take a cumulative –2 penalty, as the student becomes harder to reach with a repeated approach.

Crit Success earns 2 Motivation Points, Success 1 Motivation Point, while Crit Failure takes away 1 Motivation Point. I am looking for a certain number of Motivation Points. Remember, one skill check for each PC. Everyone is up!

"I'm just sayin', get out there, see the world for what it really is. I'm learning so much from my days here. This is home for you but it's brand new for me."

Six Motivation Points. Success!

The student is startled at first when a goblin approach her and talks about Pathfinders.

"Hmmm, I heard about them lately. Huali, by the way!" she cheerfully offers her hand for a handshake. She tells them about her interests while the Pathfinders convince her to explore skills and talents. The Pathfinders tell them to explore beyond what the school can offer and show them what they can do.

Picquing her interest, she asks to receive some initial training for an adventuring career.

"I have free time today. Why don't you show me some training that you do in Pathfinder Society so that I can do them every day? I am actually interested to learn how to invoke magical power to harm foes, heal friends, and change the world around me. Can you do that?"

The simplest way to complete these regimens is to cast three spells of 1st-level or higher that do the things she asks to see. If the PCs lack spellcasting or want to conserve their resources, each PC may attempt a DC 22 skill check of an appropriate magical tradition instead. Each PC can attempt to use a skill check once in this way. Alternatively, spells may come from magic items or be purchased for 50 gp per spell.

Ami shows her talent with her kinetic aura to heal and bludgeon foes with water, but Ami instead takes 3d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) + 4 = 9 electricity damage from Huali’s magical trinkets. Fail

Jaxon reveals his secret on hurting enemies with his mask. When he casts the spell on her, she sees that Jaxon's jaw distends, stretching his skin until it falls with a scream. She screams back and blinks twice. Success

Wrapping up, the group is successful in training. "Thank you so much! I learned a lot. I will practice what I've learned and study on the side to learn more about them. I hope I will become a Pathfinder and a strong one to help those that are weak, just like you!" Huali tells them with gratitude.

You succeed in the third task.

Viltydus rejoins them to congratulate them on the task well done.

"Congratulations! Another task was fulfilled with flying colors! And another Pathfinder in the future that will join your ranks someday."

Task #4: Path in the Wood
Viltydus then directs the Pathfinders to an intersection north of their stump along the border of the Forest of Trials. A branching network of footpaths emerges between the trees where the fey meets the Pathfinders.

Viltydus gestures to the forest’s border. “Legends about the Forest of Trials, Arcadia’s first barrier on the path to Valenhall, are many and varied. Locals whisper of curses that shroud it in secrecy, of bloodthirsty beasts that dwell among the trees. But the forest has long been my home, and I think it supports those who come to know it. Pathfinders, my last task is for you to fulfill your Society’s namesake: use the day’s light to map one of the many footpaths along the forest’s edge. Respect the forest, but do not fear it, and gather what you need to introduce it to future explorers.”

"Be cautioned though as bandits and monsters do roam the woods, but the forest itself isn’t a sinister place." they add.

Charting a pathway occurs in exploration mode. Each PC chooses an exploration activity and one relevant skill check: a DC 20 Acrobatics, DC 17 Forest Lore, DC 17 Herbalism Lore, DC 20 Nature, DC 20 Stealth, or DC 20 Survival. The check has the following results: Critical Success The PCs gain 2 Pathfinding Points. Success The PCs gain 1 Pathfinding Point. Critical Failure The PCs lose 1 Pathfinding Point.
