Would Rickety Squibs be a good place to sell off whale oil?" Ci Ci asks, not familiar with the place.
Nico Dalian
knowledge local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Nico has been keeping quiet, just observing how his new ships officers functioned, but he does have an answer for Cerise, "Never been there me'self, but generally Squibbers aren't big trading ports. They don't want a lotta ships dropping by to see the ships they're squibbing."
Capricia the Pirate
"Alright then--let's stay the course and see what we come upon in a few hours," Capricia tells the crew. "Get some rest now, but be ready to act when we catch up to that whaler, right? We might be in for some fighting, plundering, or both."
Keep to our course, following the whaler. We'll have anyone with darkvision or at least low-light vision take the night shift in the crow's nest and on deck in case we catch the whaler sooner rather than later.

Second Night
A thick bank of fog has rolled in with the evening, reducing
visibility to only a few yards and navigation to guesswork.
From the gloom comes the dull clanking of a rusted ship’s bell
somewhere nearby, echoing eerily in the fog. Suddenly, the
hulk of a ship looms in the fog off the port bow. Its hull is rotten
and stained black with age and rot. Before the mists swallow
the ship once more, the ship’s name can momentarily be seen
on its worm-eaten bow—Deathknell.

""The fog and that ships bell. I'm making a wild guess but I don't think it's friendly!"

""The fog and that ships bell. I'm making a wild guess but I don't think it's friendly!"
Nico wracks his brain for anything he remembers hearing about a ship called Deathknell?
[dice=knowledge local] 1d20 + 7;
You recall tales of the ghost ship Deathknell, captained by the terrible
Whalebone Pilk, who sails the Fever Sea in search of sailorsto feed his ever-hungry crew and fuel his ghostly ship.
A result of 15 or higher on the check also reveals rumors
that the Deathknell always stalks its prey for 2 nights before
dragging them down into a watery hell on the third.
brvheart
Is this the same whaler vessel we were pursuing?
It seems to be, yes.
Cerise "Ci Ci" Barchetta
"If Captain Pilk's after us, he's going to hit us tomorrow night. We need to be prepared. If I ask (prepare the spell), Besmara will grant me the ability to hide up to five people from the sight of the undead (hide from undead spell). It will last for nearly an hour. We can have a team ready to board the Deathknell, surround Pilk and burn him down."
Cerise "Ci Ci" Barchetta
"With your leave, Captain, I request to be relieved of duty so that I may pray and make preparations for our inevitable battle with the Deathknell and its doomed captain."
Cerise preps spells for undead fighting.
Capricia the Pirate
"Of course--I trust in your good judgment," the captain tells Ci Ci. She also claps Nico on the shoulder and says quietly, "Bringing you aboard is already paying off, I see. Keep up the good work."
The captain barks orders to the crew, ordering a course in the direction of Rickety's Squibs plus a directive that only a skeleton crew sail their vessel during the daylight hours: she wants a ready fighting crew for what seems to be an inevitable battle with The Deathknell after sunset. Then she spends a bit of time on deck practicing her swordplay skills, seemingly focusing on sudden quick and powerful hacks to where her make-believe opponent's head would be.

With the coming of evening, a nor’easter off the Eye sweeps
across the Fever Sea, bringing a front of high winds and a
purplish-black sky. Even before nightfall, the hurricane lamps
must be lit to pierce the gloom. As the ship rides up and down
with the swells and sporadic rain lashes the deck, the strained
clanking of a bell can be heard once again coming over the
water. A red ship’s lantern shines in the darkness as the dark
bulk of a derelict whaler looms out of the night.
Cerise "Ci Ci" Barchetta
"Boadring crew, to me!" Ci Ci calls out.
Once she has gathered five officers who are planning on going toe-to-toe with Captain Pilk and his deathless crew, she casts Hide from Undead, Greater upon them.
"Besmara will make you invisible to the mindless undead, and the ones who still think, like Captain Pilk himself, will have to concentrate to perceive you. Use this gift well!"
GM Brvheart: How many rounds do we have before the Deathknell closes with us?
brvheart
As you get three-quarters of a mile ahead of the
ghost ship, its red lamp disappears in the gloom, only to
suddenly reappear out of the darkness directly in front
of the their ship. The Deathknell attempts to ram the PCs’
vessel, and grappling hooks come singing over to grapple
the two ships together.
