When you take care of your wounds and search the bodies, you find some rations, couple of weapons, long rifle is most likely a musket. When you examing the body of half-elf when her invisibility wears off, you recognize that she was in fact changeling, her two color eyes were the first clue. You might suspect that she was somehow related to Aslynn. You do not find the second dagger however.
When you examing the sourroundings a bit more, north from changeling body immersed is a huge construct of sort. Massive armor covers it's body, head is a bit resembling that of a bird. Image on slide 12
You see that fortunatelly none of your fireballs have hit it. You lucky rats of the desert!
The construct seems to be stuck in rocks and sands, and due to the size of it, you don't think that you would be able to extract it yourself. The construct seems motionless.
What do you do? Do you approach the construct? If so how close? Do you try to touch it? speak to it? Examine it's body? Do you use the slates of distant letters to notify Eando?

Brekovi checks the wind direction. He then figures out which direction he can approach the construct from keeping in cover of the rocks and being able to smell any trouble. He doesn’t expect the giant construct itself to have a scent, but there may be more than just it to be wary of.
Avoid notice, when within scent range stop to seek. If nothing found proceed to within 30’, seek again, then do Investigate or RK as appropriate to learn more about the construct.

GM Farol |

Isaku begin to heal others, sometimes cutting them as well. Brekovi approaches the automation against the wind, trying to stay invisible. The automation seems to be not responsive, he moves closer and closer ....and nothing.
He never seen anything like that. Automations are unique beings, but it is hard to say the capabilities of this one, or even it's intentions. Finally Brekovi move next to it and there is no reaction. As he has some time to look a bit closer Brekovi notices couple of things.
The automation is currently buried in stone which shows signs of at some point having been superheated to the point of becoming liquid. The automations must have sank into this stone and became trapped when the stone hardened. It is hard to estimate the size of the automation, although they look to be quite large from what can be seen. What is visible from this distance of the automation looks like a snapping turtle, with the edge of a sturdy metal shell and a broad head visible. The metal looks like bronze but is untarnished. Behind the head, protected by the lip of the shell, are two slots. The slots are large enough to fit dagger size object.
When Brekovi touches the armor he hears the voice in his head
"So you .... have come... Just like Sounrel have said ... Don't be shy, Osirion must have payed you a lot to come and ... cause harm to Jistka empire"
Brekovi hear a calm but weak voice in his head, he is not entirely sure what language is it, but he understands it perfectly. The automation uses some sort of limited telepathy to communicate, and clearly assmues that you are someone else.
There are slots in the automation, that you could do something with, you have automation itself with whom you could converse and try to convice that you are not who they think you are (some social check would be required, but that have an impact on the chronicle if you blunder ;))

![]() |

Isaku heads over to the automaton and has a look at it, wondering what it could be doing here.
New Investigation - The Automaton

![]() |

“Wow! This automaton has telepathy! Thinks we are from Osirion and here to make trouble.”
Brekovi puts his paw against the automaton and concentrates. He speaks as he projects his thoughts, so his companions can at least hear his side of the conversation.
“I am a member of the Pathfinder Society, a group of explorers interested in history. My name is Brekovi. Do you have a name?”
Brekovi's Diplomacy (T): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Brekovi waits for an answer and relays the name if one is given.
If it is willing to converse with him, he will ask the automaton what blasted the ground with so much heat as to melt stone.
Society +12, do I recognize the name Sounrel? From context, sounds like a diviner.

![]() |

Tess approaches the giant robot. "Hello, my name is Tess. What is your name?" Tess looks down at the changeling elf at her feet. "Was Sounrel the woman we fought just now? I'm sorry about that, but she was doing her level best to kill us. I believe that she was an agent of Aslynn the hag, a powerful illusionist who specializes in showing people what they most fear. If you fear being dragged into war again, it would make sense that Sounrel would mislead you as to our purpose. As my friend Brekovi noted, we are Pathfinders."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Hero Point: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
"Do you have any way of noting time? It has been millennia since the Jitska Imperium existed, though it was said that their many construct creations were marvels. Seeing you, I can tell the stories were not exaggerated. The war between Osirion and the Jitska is no more."

GM Farol |

@Brekovi you do not recognize the name Sounrel, it is not well known name, I used it on purpose knowing that you will not be able to pinpoint you, but you can always ask the automation
“I am a member of the Pathfinder Society, a group of explorers interested in history. My name is Brekovi. Do you have a name?”
"I would imagine no agent of Osirion would admit .... to being one.... My name? ... I can't remember But you can call me Star, as I stand here still and ... observe ..."
Star listens to Tess, communicating with that being is unique experience
"Yes Sounrel ... was that woman ... Do I fear being dragged into war ? Yes ... I also fear darkness ... being alone ... I have been alone here looking at the stars forever ... I don't want to be alone ..."
Tess feels fear and sorrow, the feeling of her world being destroyed and reborn as she stands still and can't do anything but watch ... She takes her hand off just to make sure that none of that feeling were true. She touches Star yet again
"I am sorry ... if my feeling overwhelmed you ... I think I trust your words ... Will you stay with me? ... I don't want to be alone again."
Tess scored a success, a crit success in fact ;) Feel free to Interact with Star, as I prepare wrapping up.

![]() |

“Star sounds like a fine name.”
“Have you been watching the stars all this time? If so, I think there are astrologers in our society that would very much want to talk with you. Find out what changes you have observed in the stars.”
Brekovi spends a little time looking over Star to try and figure out if there is anything he can do to release them from the rock or fix anything that needs mending.

![]() |

Is Star communicating telepathically? So does Isaku need to touch the automaton to communicate with it?

GM Farol |

“Star sounds like a fine name.”
“Have you been watching the stars all this time? If so, I think there are astrologers in our society that would very much want to talk with you. Find out what changes you have observed in the stars.”
Brekovi spends a little time looking over Star to try and figure out if there is anything he can do to release them from the rock or fix anything that needs mending.
"Thank you ... I like it as well ... I would gladly speak to your astronomers ... but I feel that compared to the real stars my life is short ... Do you happen to have ... powering device ...?"
Asks Star and yet again you notice two slots of the size matching your dagger that you have been carrying.
Looking at the rock, Brekovi concludes that it would require careful excavation and it would probably take weeks.

![]() |

"Powering device? Well we have this dagger that led us to you. I bet it fits in one of these slots. Is that what you mean?"
I don't know who has the dagger but Meadow will either retrieve it and insert it in one of the slots or encourage whoever has it to do so.

![]() |

"So you're from the time of the Jistka Empire huh? That was hundreds of years ago. I bet you're even older than my friend Bumble and he's gotta be at least 500 years old." She kicks the solidified rock holding Star prisoner. "Wow. You're really in there good. It's gonna take awhile to get you out. How did you manage to get stuck in this rock anyway?"
After conversing with Star for awhile Meadow turns to the party. "So who's gonna go give our report and bring back an excavation team? Silence and I will stay here and keep Star company while the rest of you get a team together. I know what it's like to be lonely." She sighs deeply and gives the giant automaton and sympathetic look. "I don't want to leave her all alone again. We should have enough supplies to be okay until a team gets here."
"Brekovi, if you wanna learn Sylvan I'd be glad to teach you. I've been speaking it all my life. 'S i a' chiad chànan a dh'ionnsaich mi a-riamh." Meadow's pronunciation of Sylvan is flawless. Better in fact than her Taldane.

GM Farol |

Meadow puts in dagger and Star begins to respond in a more coherent and fluent way
"Thank you, that would make me more aware, but I am afraid that it will take me some time to regain some of my capabilities." you can't fail to notice that Star has a slot for a second dagger, but you haven't found one.
"How was I trapped? It was a battle, I ended up into a pool of magma that very quickly solidified"
Meadow recalls that you have slates of distant letters letting you send messages to Eando.

One hour later...
an excavation team with picks and shovels to our current location about four days travel south-southwest of your current location. Yours truly, Meadow.
"There. That should do it."

GM Farol |

That sounds roughly like the letters I send to my parents from summer camps ;)
The hour later you get a response
"I am sending a team, If you can, stay there. You took your sweet time, but I am glad that you are fine."
You spend the four days in presence of the automation, looking for food and hiding from the scorching sun of the desert, you are certain that when the pathfinders come the excavation will be simple ... right?
That would conclude this story. There is the follow up scenario Battle for Star's Fate that touches on that exact subject.
