Quetzhal- you don't know that the invisible undead is there. It is still undetected to you. To find an invisible foe someone in the group would have to seek. If successful they then would have to use an action to point it out to everyone else so that it would then become hidden to the rest of the group.
Instead of raising a shield would you like to try seeking to find it?

With Ra'uf having a bead o the poltergeist he sets his axe for the killing blow and sends it back to rest for awhile as the poltergeist is sliced into pieces.
Out of Combat.
Once seeing that the hall is safe, Nordvick, Annavinia, Selik, and Dehliana all move towards the party. Selik is ever-calm, Annavinia seems to have more nerves about her than previously, Nordvick continues to be nervous, and Dehliana seems to continue to be scared.
You have time to heal of course.
With only one more area to investigate the group heads down to the the ground floor and tries the locked, iron door with the key retrieved from Nordvick's room that you unlocked earlier. The door opens to review a decrepit set of wooden stairs that creek with every step as you descend. At the bottom of the stairs you find a dank root cellar with a packed dirt floor. Copper pipes emerge from a stone well to the south east
You notices a 5ft patch of dirt in the center of the cellar that feels soft underfoot. With a nearby shovel the party digs and unearths a small chest of lacquered cedar lined with layers of brass.
You recognize that this chest has extreme insolating properties that could be used to seal potent magic artifacts, such as the Covetous Flame.
Once the chest is revealed, however, you hear a dramatic slow clap as a grinning imp (Zirzip) reveals himself in the cobwebbed corner of the cellar. "Well done, well done! Truly! It seems we may find ourselves as allies. My master wishes you dead, and well, as much as I would love that myself, I wish for my master to die more. I've been watching you all day....first I tested you on the road, and I have to say that you were very impressive... Then I've watched you within the trading post and sure enough my master fears you will kill him. If I may ask for a favor...would you? I would very much like to be free and would be happy to assist with the purifying of his spirit if necessary."

![]() |

"So it's you all this time..." Charlies expresses his disappointment when he learns the truth from the imp. "Why are you even doing this?"

![]() |

Jack♢ eyes the unearthed small chest. "You reckon this's that wish-grantin' artifact folks're so desperate about?"
(The ritual for destroying it requires the artifact "to be lit", then extinguished with the blood of Annavinia. This can only be done during the new moon an hour before dawn -- I assume these time conditions are approaching, GM?)
The imp's vague choice of words seems catches the card shark's notice. "Pause for a sec. Your master, the cleric Linneus Whatshisname? Or the big boss of Hell Himself? 'Cause pretty sure a mortal like Linneus ain't exactly alive anymore after 200 years, and we can't snuff out a god."

"Some was me some was not. I have not hurt a single one of you since we met on the road. I eagerly watched you adventurers from the common room at the time of that investigators murder. I didn't anticipate the trouble the good inspector was going to get himself into!"
"Indeed, I have no need to kill anyone, Just look at Nordvick! He's still alive and well after all these years! The only things that kill within these walls are my master, Linneus, The Covetous Flame, and one of YOU!" he says looking at Nordvick, Annavinia, Selik, and Dehliana as the Imps grin grows wider and wider at all of the ensuing chaos.
"I have done nothing wrong here! I am trying to fulfill my contract, that is all! My master created the Covetous Flame and wished for eternal life! Well he got it! He lives eternally within these very walls now! Unfortunately my contract is for the lifetime of my master. This is why I need a worthy adventurer to destroy the Covetous Flame! But many decide to instead wish for something instead--- that never goes well! That's why Nordvick needs to play clean-up duty every now and again!" Nordvick turns red with shame. "You see I've done nothing wrong here except try to earn my freedom! And no, breaking me in half does not give me freedom." The Imp glares at Ekaterina.
Ra'uf listens intently and has no reason to suspect the imp of lying. Nor does anyone else for that matter.
Reminder- You do already have the instructions to destroy the Covetous Flame as Jack stated above and do not have to take the deal if you don't wish to. It seems Zirzip is offering to help either locate the Covetous Flame and/or assist with the purifying of the spirit. He's now indicated the Covetous Flame is already in the house so do with that what you will. Though I will tell you it is not the chest.

"Say, Zirzip fella, is it okay to open this thing?" the gambler gestures at the recently-unearthed tiny chest. "No traps or curses or anything?"
When given the green light, Jack♢ opens it (with or without lockpicks).

![]() |

Jack open the chest to find it...empty. The Imp giggles. "I told you, the chest is empty. The metals are the remains of my Master's attempts at creating the Covetus Flame."
Zirzip raises his wings and slowly floats past you all to go up the stairs. "Follow me."
