We've gathered together and accepted the quest. That's not nothing!

Who's keeping record of party resources/treasures?

Zephira the Sylph |

Exactly! I was wondering who'd be Party Treasury!
Oh, wait... I'm playing a bard.
*Facepalm*

Zephira the Sylph |

So, our party consists of:
Alexandria
Arrock
Luke (GM PC)
Shawn
Zephira
Right?
We were given 500 gp up front. So, 100 gp for each.
"Don't spend it all in one place!"
I'm fine with being Party Treasurer. I don't own a computer, btw. I just use a couple note pad apps for my posts. I can keep track in another list. I'll post our monetary gains & losses in this thread.
Just help me with keeping an eye on the math.

Oh dear! I'm so sorry!
Ok. There are 6 of us.
That makes 83 gp & 33 sp each.

Works for me. A bit wonky on my phone, but I'll manage. How large are the two bodies of water in the center? I'm guessing about the size of two of the US Great Lakes. I.e. Lake Erie & L. Superior. Just a guess though.

I haven't decided on a firm scale yet but that seems fine -- I pulled this map out of the hundreds of map projects I have on my computer since it seemed to basically fit the context -- I'll fill in more later with more pins. I'm intending to put many other of the Dungeon adventures on it -- like L'Triel is on the coast, and maybe the lady of the mist castle is in one of those lakes.

Sebecloki |

Works fine for me. (If those are great lake sized lakes, this would be an insanely large Duchy.)
I'm kind of imagining it being really big and setting the rest of the adventures inside of it -- I'm also going to try to make it a stretch where the PCs will have to sweat to finish their travel on time, that might make this adventure a bit more of a nail biter

Shawn Ashler |

Yep. Opens fine.
I think you might want to move the pin for Rudwilla's hut then. If it's only a couple of hours up the road, the distance from it to the mountains looks to be about twice the distance from the town to the hut. ?? Unless Rudwilla will be sending us all over the Duchy for her ingredients....

That is the adventure -- I haven't put the rest of the pins on b/c you learn about it later, but you travel around the whole Duchy basically getting ingredients

Sebecloki |

Okay, I'm getting the Blacktalon Forest map set up in Miro. I put a huge arrow pointing to where you are. When you open it, it will show you a map of the sector of the forest you're in -- you have to zoom way in to where I circled to see where you are at the beginning of the sector. I have several miles of forest set up in this to include future side treks and adventures. The rainbow sparkle grid is 1 ft = 1 square.
Here's a screenshot of what it should look like.

Zephira the Sylph |

It's not working whatsoever on my phone. Out of the 68 pbp games played so far, not a single one of them has been anything other than Google Slides.
I may just have to rely on you all to move my PC icon and tell me where I am in combat (I plan to be out of melee as much as possible, so it shouldn't be too difficult).
Theatre of the Mind, on my part, so to speak.

I'm happy to give you screenshots of what you need, as I indicated in the recruitment. I did clarify this completely in the recruitment, so you really don't have a basis for being annoyed I'm not using googslides -- I straight up told you I wasn't using it, wouldn't be, and won't be in no uncertain terms.

Zephira the Sylph |

Screenshots & just descriptions should be fine.
I guess since I'm an old school pencil & paper gamer, it was difficult for me to get used to G. Slides.
Sorry I'm annoyed, it's a new format that I can't access.
How familiar are all the other players with using Miro for games? Is it a common map medium for games?

Algrim Ironheart |

It is not working on my iPad either. I’ll check my PC later other wise screen shots should work for me too.

Out of curiosity, Sebicloki, how long have you been GMing? You don't have a profile set up.

Wow. Long time of GMing. Cool.
What I mean by profile is when I click on your name, it takes me to your profile page. Just like how our PCs have profiles. Usually people set up a profile to tell a little bit about themselves.
Nevermind. Sorry. I'm having bad/weird past couple days. I don't know why I'm making a big deal about it.
That's fine if you don't want to create a profile.

I tend to be pretty private -- I don't do any social media. There's a limit to what I'd want to share on this kind of platform.
I've been playing rpgs since the 1990s when I was in middle school and I started with Earthdawn 1e when it was being published. I started DMing w/ Earthdawn, Palladium Fantasy 2e, and TSR-era AD&D.
I also work in healthcare -- we have very stringent rules about any kind of internet presence so I need to be careful about revealing any potentially identifying information that could connect me to my employer.

Zephira the Sylph |

Thank you for sharing. I've heard of Earthdawn, but quite unfamiliar with it. I'll definitely look it up.
I look forward to what you have in store for us regarding this campaign. I have a couple good Dungeon Mag adventures in mind for when it's my turn.

It's very much a product of the 1990s. The lore is some of the most amazing stuff ever. All the books are written as 'in-universe' publications of the Great Library of Throal. It's the prehistory of Shadowrun -- I know the IPs went different directions later, but that was intentional and clear in the early editions. Harlequin is an immortal elf from Earthdawn. The 'Great Enemy' are the Horrors. Atlantis is Great Thera. There's a lot of stuff like that.
It's a dice pool system called a step system where you have a specific number of dice to roll against a target -- sort of like savage worlds but much more complex. Like 2d4 would be 'step 4' because the average is 4. But step 6 might be 3d4. And imagine if there were like 30 steps with different dice combinations of d6, d8, d4 etc. against different target numbers. There's also a mechanic that's sort of like the PF wounds/vigor system for health. The magic system is tightly connected to the lore and involves weaving protective matricies around spells. It's very crunchy.

Whoopsie! It should be 83 gp and only 3 sp (not 33 sp) for each of us.
That's what happens when you have an air-head sylph doing party treasury.

Here are a couple threads for some of you to check out if you already haven't.
Mostly, check out "Writing Style" in DH"s guide.
The most aesthetically appealing narrative structure seems to be Third Person Limited. When everyone writes in that style, the story flows like a novel and gives everyone reading a firm grasp of all the characters' thoughts and motives.
Building a Better Doomed Hero: Painlord's Advanced Play-by-Post Play
I don't mean to be a stickler, but when posts are switching back and forth from present tense to past tense, even in the same post, it disrupts the flow of the narrative.

I'll try to look at it in future posts. I also just might have my own style for some things.
I'm not sure if you realize this but you've now raised issues about (1) the map platform I had already informed you I was using in the recruitment (2) the fact I don't want to share lots of personal details on my profile and now (3) are taking issue with tense variability. I understand everyone has very specific tastes for how these games are run and played, but I may just not have exactly the same ones as you do, and that's just part of being a player instead of a DM is that you have to accept some things just aren't going to be the same way as if you were in the DM chair. That's one reason I don't usually want to be a player is I have very specific ideas about what I like and I won't get that from almost any DM, so I just do it myself-- that and I don't actually like flipping through rulebooks to pick feats and other abilities.

Zephira the Sylph |

Understood. I'll keep my mouth shut from now on.
*Ducks from thrown virtual dice bag.*

Alexandria the Red |

@Alexandria, what specific function of Intimidate are you using -- coerce, demoralize, etc., and are you targeting the ogre or the roc it's riding on?
Coerce (or more likely Influence Attitude since coerce requires several minutes of back and forth) to try to get the ogre to rethink attacking us/back down. If possible.

Algrim Ironheart |

We're fighting right? Everyone paste their initiative into a reply to this so I can just make an automatic thing to roll everyone at once for the future
Algrim Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Zephira the Sylph |

Whoops. I rolled my initiative in my gameplay post.
Anyway, my initiative is +3.
I'm willing to create a dice expressions list of everyone's initiative & perception that you can post in the campaign info header to use whenever you want.

Zephira the Sylph |

Everyone, fill in your Initiative & Perception info >>HERE<<.
Sebicloki, once it's complete, you can just copy & paste it into the Campaign Info section (or wherever you want) for easy access.
Edit: I filled it out for everyone. Luke just needs to add his info and create a profile header.
It's good to go!

Is there any way to note perception modifiers for special circumstances in that?
Since "special circumstances" don't come up very often, I just make sure players have that info listed in their profile when I GM.
What special circumstances did you have in mind? I'll try to come up with something.
@Sebicloki: You can also just put the link to that slide in your GM Alias header for easy access as well, if you don't want it in the Campaign Info section.

I was talking about things like Arrock's '+2 to Perception to avoid surprise or notice invisible or ethereal' trait based modifiers. Other people might have stuff that gives them better perception undergound, etc. Things that are mentioned in the character heading, but if a GM is pulling the info from different place, could get overlooked.

Ah, ok. That's what i thought you meant. That's easy. We just create a new list of notes. I'll set up/start it later.

Zephira the Sylph |

I have a notes section going on that slide. Feel free to add any pertinent info, or, I'll do it when I have time.

You all had a chance to avoid fighting and even gained the upper hand in verbal negotiation... and then changed your minds. And here I was thinking you were about to bypass this side trek!
Alexandria, do not fear, you will have an opportunity to survive -- but you may be carried off by the roc for a bit and your friends may have to save you.
