Fortitude vs Stun: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (20) + 26 = 46
Reflex vs Petal Storm: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (4) + 28 = 32

Lorthact is only slightly wounded by the petal storm, but both Edric and Remy land good hits. Lorthact continues to batter Remy with his staff, scoring two critical hits! The monk is barely on her feet after the brutal assault.

Staff: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (15) + 30 = 451d20 + 25 ⇒ (1) + 25 = 261d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40

125 damage to Remy.

The small things of the ground as well as the summoned flower petals continue to harass the devil as Dewdrop prepares her next spell - healing for the beleaguered monk.

Draconic Edric feels rather offended at how the demon keeps ignoring him!

Axe: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (8) + 23 = 311d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 231d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

Sadly the offense doesn't make him any more accurate.

Stupefied 3 Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 4

Remy's brain is too addled to call on her healing powers. She also fumbles about with her attacks, missing the fiend!

Reflex vs Petal Storm: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (17) + 28 = 45

Lorthact ignores the petal storm, though Dewdrop's conjured plants pummel him slightly. He misses Remy with his first strike, but the second blow is a critical hit that knocks down the monk! He finally turns to Edric, who avoids his blow.

Staff: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (3) + 30 = 331d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 451d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28

Intimidate: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26

Without Remy distracting the devil Edric is tempted to bathe the creature in fire - but that wouldn't be wise, no matter how satisfying, so he focuses on cutting the creature down. His single-minded intent is almost terrifying.

Female Sprite (draxie) Sorceress (fey) 13 | HP 84 | AC 32 | Fort +18 Ref +22 Will +21 | Perc +22 (23 pursuing a lead) | Hero Point: 0/3

The sprite's wrath is continued to be conveyed by the elements' assault on Lorthact while she send more healing towards the monk. Her abilities to heal are clearly growing weaker, however.

Damage: 3d10 + 8 ⇒ (8, 7, 10) + 8 = 33

Upon receiving healing, Remy quickly kips up off the ground and resumes her assault! She lands a punishing blow, as does Edric, while Dewdrop's natural assistants pierce the devil's hide.

"Bah! Enough of this!" Lorthact snarls. "Enjoy your victory while it lasts, mortals. This world hasn't seen the last of me!" And with that, the exiled Duke of Hell vanishes in a puff of smoke and brimstone.

You are able to put a permanent end to the strigoi who masterminded the plot to return Ileosa to life. When you have the time to examine all of the documents and books here, you are able to learn that the vampire, whose name was Aliriel, was an ancient servant of Runelord Sorshen who had been imprisoned in the Eurythnian Vault deep under Korvosa. When Sorshen abandoned the Vault to found New Thassilon several years ago, the minions and creatures she’d kept imprisoned in the deep underground chambers were set free.

Aliriel found her way into the city above. Night after night, she studied its citizens and explored its shadows, swiftly learning about this new world in which she found herself. She made a surprising discovery during these explorations: a vial of preserved blood drawn from none other than Queen Ileosa. Using ancient magic and eldritch devices Sorshen left in her dungeons, Aliriel used this vial of blood to perform an astonishing feat: She rebuilt Ileosa’s heart, and established a tenuous link between the necromantically infused organ and Ileosa’s soul in Hell.

Aliriel knew Ileosa’s legacy remained strong in Korvosa. If she could rebuild the queen’s body, free her soul from Hell, and bring her back to life, the restored queen would be in her debt—a powerful puppet the vampire could use to establish her own domain. Rebuilding the body was not the challenge of this task; what stumped Aliriel was the task of slipping the soul from Hell’s clutches. When she stole a collection of documents, including the only existing copy of Ileosa’s infernal contract, she drew Lorthact’s attention.

Lorthact extended an offer to Aliriel: He would help her navigate the complexities of the infernal contract that keeps Ileosa’s soul trapped in Hell; in return, once Aliriel used Ileosa to gain control of the city, she would allow Lorthact to harvest souls in the city to help buy his way back into Hell's nobility.

***

With Aliriel defeated and Lorthact forced into a humiliating flight from Krovosa, you are poised to report your success to the queen. Nicoletta is immensely satisfied with your success and arranges for delivery of payment for the job. She also offers to congratulate you publicly if you desire.

Nicoletta omits some of the details from the public story; she would rather not shame the Church of Pharasma or the memory of Bishop Keppira d’Bear by letting this recent disgrace become public knowledge. For the moment, the Cathedral of Pharasma does its best to return to normal. In time, a new high priest will arrive to take Keppira’s place.

The realization that not all of Sorshen’s one-time minions abandoned the Eurythnian Vault concerns some. What dangers remain within those abandoned chambers are still unknown. Sorshen herself is unlikely to return to Korvosa to tidy up her mess.

For the time being, though, it seems peace has once again been restored in Korvosa...

Edric accepts a reward - his draconic nature is more than strong enough to ensure that he takes gold very seriously, but declines any public prestige.

"Am not the person you want to praise in public." He says firmly. "So no need. Glad to help."

More privately he thanks his companions in battle. "You are a fine warrior Remy. Almost as strong as dragon. Use a real weapon and you would be unstoppable!" He claps the monk on the shoulder and turns to Dewdrop.

"You have a mighty mind Miss Rosethorn. I wish you luck in the future. Have interesting students. One day, if you wish, come to visit. You will be welcome."
