Giovanni's gambit works, as it leaves the foe making a face when he gets shot. Unfortunately for the ysoki, it's the slightest of hits.

Rowdy Randy: Go

Giovanni: Hit

Magnok-704's shot is enough! The sovereign ruler falls to the ground, choking out some final words, "The king is dead. Long live the king."

Now it's a simple matter to clear the room. The question is only how well.

Everyone needs to make 1 check. Your options are Athletics, Engineering, or Perception. This is my last post until morning, so hopefully everyone gets theirs in!

The party's comms soon light up as Ziggy says they're coming to you to congratulate you on a job well done.

Soon the doors whoosh open. Ziggy is joined by the head of the Dataphiles, Celita and Camelia.

“My goodness, this space will be perfect!” Zigvigix exclaims aloud. “I can’t thank you enough for your help. We’re really going to do some good here, and I hope you come back and visit us once the lounge is up and running.”

Ziggy draws you a little closer and speaks telepathically. “This means a great deal to me. It’s no secret that, in recent years, the Society hasn’t always taken good care of its agents. I don’t mean to blame anybody—it’s been a nonstop barrage, and we’ve barely had time to catch our breath. But, well, I thought it was important that somebody started speaking up, and people seem to listen to me still. If any of you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to seek the Advocates’ help. That’s all we want to do—provide help! And if you’d like to help too, well, the more the merrier!”

Zigvigix chuckles as they wheel away. “We could always use more members!”

Celita adds something as you're heading out for a break (and a good meal.)

"Hey, you know you should hit the main lecture hall before you call it a day. I know you're only somewhat new, but you should go listen to Charla Ritzpan. Starts in an hour. You won't be disappointed!"

| The Death of Kortos IV | Fly Free or Die | | Ship Roles |

Advancing to maintain momentum.

The party says their goodbyes, and then heads for the auditorium. About halfway there a small crowd has gathered in the hallway, surrounding two individuals who are arguing fiercely.

“And I’m tellin’ you, it’s just too dangerous!” shouts the dwarven Starfinder at the center of the circle. The sword strapped to their back clanks against their old-fashioned, metal armor as they move. “Have you learned nothin’ over the past year?”

The lanky verthani opposite the dwarf scoffs. “It can’t be denied that the events of the Data Scourge were a travesty.” Several cybernetic augmentations whirr and flash as he speaks, including a prominent datajack on his right temple. “However, to completely shun any form of innovation is simply folly.”

“I ain’t shunnin’ innovation, you tech-head,” the dwarf retorts, shaking their head. They look about the crowd. “Come ‘ere, you lot. You look like you know what you’re about. Settle this for us, will ya’?”

You have a chance to calm this debate before it erupts into outright aggression and further splinters the Starfinder Society. You don’t have to agree or disagree with either side and may play either side of the debate as you wish.

Faelin points out that their clan was kept prisoner by a malevolent AI for centuries, and they’ve heard rumors that a similar AI was behind the Data Scourge. “If your technology is so great, how come it keeps tryin’ to hurt people?”

You can calm them down in a few ways. Diplomacy to parry this argument;
Computers or Engineering to discuss the unique circumstances behind each of those AI-related incidents. | The Death of Kortos IV | Fly Free or Die | | Ship Roles |

After Soros, Randy's point seems positively genius, but it's Magnok-704 who moves the debate.

Markosi concedes that yes, those AI were certainly a problem, but technology isn’t inherently evil. “Technology is a tool, just like your clan’s mining picks,” he pontificates. “It’s not about what it is, but about who uses it. Evil will always exist in the universe, and without technology, how will we defend ourselves?”

They're still dangerously close to boiling over into violence. You can use Diplomacy to parry this argument; Intimidate or Profession (soldier, mercenary, or similar) to discuss other forms of defense; or Mysticism to discuss magical solutions to problems.

| The Death of Kortos IV | Fly Free or Die | | Ship Roles |

The yoski boys take a similar tone, and it's enough to move the conversation forward, but Giovanni's argument is the key as neither seems ready to shake hands or shut any traps.

Faelin grumbles before reminding Markosi that technology is but one tool of many. “Any miner worth their salt isn’t just relyin’ on their pick,” they say. “They’re watchin’ their back themselves, talkin’ with their clan’s priests to keep ‘em safe, and surveyin’ the ground before they even start diggin’. You’re just askin’ for trouble if all you’re doin’ is askin’ the computer to solve everythin’!”

Markosi dismisses this argument with a wave. “Pah! We Dataphiles know what we’re doing. Technology is one tool of many, yes, but it’s the most powerful tool we have. Surely, a few hiccups along the way don’t merit abandoning an entire field of study!”

The leader of the Manifold Host, a Large barathu collective named Harmony of Many, is in the small auditorium alongside two dozen Starfinders of various species, watching the induction of a group of new Starfinders. Leading the ceremony is an enthusiastic gnome with bright purple hair, Charla Ritzpan, who is performing a vocal medley at the top of her lungs.

Harmony of Many hovers at the back of the room and raises a tendril in greeting when you arrive, gesturing for you to follow them into a side room with large windows that overlooks the auditorium. This room provides storage space for sound equipment and a variety of stage dressing. As Harmony of Many shuts the door behind you, the gnome on the stage begins to shower the new agents in multicolored glitter.

“Thank you for joining us,” the barathu says telepathically. “For those whom we have not had the pleasure of inducting formally, our name is Harmony of Many, and we are the leader of the faction known as the Manifold Host. Our faction has operated within the Starfinder Society for years, working to bring representatives of new species into the fold and to ensure their unique needs are met. Because of meager resources, our efforts have been limited, and we’ve not been able to welcome many new recruits into the faction formally. However, First Seeker Ehu Hadif has committed additional resources to minor factions such as ours, for which we are grateful. We asked you to be invited, but did not want to give too much information before your arrival in case this has all been too overwhelming.”

The door whips open as the colorful gnome makes her entrance, dragging a small humanoid drone by the hand and leaving a trail of glitter in her wake. “Hi, I’m Charla! Pleasure to meet you! Did you hear about the project yet?”

“They are not yet aware,” intones the collective. “Charla has been working with my drone, Major Sixth, to develop a tour program for new agents. This program will—”

“It’s going to be great!” Charla interrupts, grinning widely. “It’s going to show the new recruits all sorts of cool stuff—all the best places to eat and hang out—and even teach them some useful skills!”

Harmony of Many bobs their body up and down in an imitation of a nod. “Charla and some of our other agents have worked diligently on this project. However, it requires final testing. We hope you are willing to assist. Please provide our newly inducted agents a personal tour of the Lorespire Complex using the prepared script. Is this request amenable to you?”

Charla nods. “Your feedback will be invaluable! Plus, it’ll give you a chance to get to know these new Starfinder agents! Sounds perfect tome!”

Magnok steps forward with his script and in mostly a monotone he reads.

"Our field agents return with valuable information on new planets, systems, and species. All of that data is synthesized and analyzed here in our research center. Any data that is not a security risk is available to all agents at any time, allowing you to research for your next mission or simply check out what is new. Who knows, you might even make your own discovery. I'm really looking forward to . . ."

He stops and looks around, realizing that his script has ended and he needs to say more.

"Umm . . . Super thrusters. Yes. I really am looking forward to researching super thrusters and how to make the drake a faster ship. You can use these swell computers to find information on engine development and making ships go faster. I know that you, Mr. Snoutflash, want to go faster and this is the perfect way to put that extra power in your ship!"

A ysoki pilot is nearly falling asleep at the dull tour guide, but when his name is called, he suddenly wakes up. "Uhh, what? You know who I am? Really, you think I could make my ship go faster? Do I need to login to access this information?"

"Yes, you do have to log in, but that is not a problem. You just have to use your last name followed by your starfinder number and then all of that information is yours! You will have all of that information at your fingertips! Think of all the power that data can give you!"
