I always forget how much I hate hunting for character images online. I’ve probably made characters for 4 recruitments like this in the past and 3 of them I spent hours hunting for an image I was happy with then just bowed out in frustration. I’m currently a good 3 hours into my image search and have completely scrapped the samurai/geisha idea because I couldn’t find an image I liked, and now I’m giving up on the paladin/bard I had in mind too. I’m going to eat dinner and then decide whether to bow out entirely or just search random images until I find one I like and then build a character around it instead of the other way around.
Did you try an art bot? Midjourney AI is pretty good.

If you are still in the creative process, keep this part in mind:
Physical description with emphasis on your otherworldly nature (images from internet are encouraged)-
I think I messed up because I rolled and picked some features, but I'm lacking in extreme physical aspects(prismatic shadow, colormorph-hair, slender, androgyn, singing voice. I'd probably fit into a good number of animes but not sure it's what GM is hoping for).
It may be wise for this recruitment to choose a picture based on what your looks would be(fur? wings? claws? hooves?), rather than the class you are looking for.

This. Though I'm always open to roll, see if I can fit whatever feature comes up, and then maybe change it if I find no way. After all, they should be non-beneficial features mechanically speaking.
Btw: the Eidolon is an Agathion also with leonine features. Thundercats, wooooo!

Askold "Beerfiend" Magnusson |

I mean, mutagenic mauler skald kind of screams metal band frontman, so Till Lindemann it is. Since roiding up is part of his character, why not take the most anabolika abusing character I know?
I would argue that both his blue haired normal form, and his roided up hulk smash form are sufficiently clearly "not human".

I had a very specific idea of what my first 2 character ideas would look like and couldn't find an image I was satisfied with for either. I'm going to spend a little time today just looking at images of aasimar/angels and maybe like valkyries and egyptian gods and see if any interesting images prompt a character idea. I was trying to avoid being too similar to any other submissions but if I'm building from an image instead of to one I'll probably have to forget about that and hope I don't end up too too similar. We'll see what I can find.

I gotta say... I don't get scrapping a PC just because you can't find a picture online that matches what you have in your head. If you're looking for inspiration to build a PC, sure, I can see how that could be helpful. But so much of a PC is all in your head, anyway. A picture can be helpful, but in the cases talked about in this thread, it seems like a picture is a hindrance. You should play the PC that you want to play, not the PC limited by a picture that people are going to look at only a few times during the length of a campaign.
Shadow_Fox, how much of a consideration is the picture going to be in your selection process? Is anyone going to get dinged if they have a picture with a qualifier such as "like this picture, but with white hair and an axe instead"?

I'm not the GM, BUT... I did a lot of "she looks like this picture but her hair is black and her features should be way sharper...", etc. with the pics I included. Shadow Fox was complimentary about my character and didn't mention my lack of spot-on pics being a problem. So, my guess is that as long as you can convey the look you're going for with some reference pics, you are still in the race.

Giant Halfling |

I probably am being too picky but, to me, the image I pick is going to be how people think of my character--and once you start using images they probably aren't going to really remember the written description much--so I really want it to be pretty accurate.
Thankfully, after a lengthy search, I found an image I like and which has a reasonably similar avatar image available on the forums! And, after thinking through her story, I'm going to officially be pitching a paladin of Ylimancha/aerokineticist. I'm on my way out the door right now but I'll try to get an alias set up tonight for her.

Picture consideration is not vital for the selection process. Obviously, I would like a reasonable interpretation of the character since I want a mental image in my head during the game. However, you can definitely say, like this image, but with black hair and a scar down his eye, for example. Usually in rp games, you try to blend into the populace and not stand out. However, for this game, I am looking for the opposite - your bloodline origins are celestial beings! Play up your differences (the reason I did not allow Scion of Humanity)! You have halos, metallic skin, glowing eyes, or wings for goodness sake, etc. Bask in your celestialness and embrace it! (I know that's not a word). And in the other aasimar players, perhaps your character finds a kinship that he or she was longing for. My 2 cents.

Shifter and Ranger are both Druid adjacent.
Just like Paladin and Warpriest are both Cleric adjacent. And Trapper Ranger and Investigator are both Rogue adjacent.
17 characters submitted more than there are advertised positions. Not the worst odds I've seen, but obviously this is a pretty popular offering.
Thank you for setting this up, Shadow_Fox!
I'm curious. Let's see:
Barbarian - 1
Bard - 2
Brawler - 1
Cleric - 2
Fighter - 1
Hunter - 1
Inquisitor - 2
Investigator - 1
Kineticist - 2
Magus - 1
Monk - 2
Oracle - 2
Paladin - 5
Ranger - 5
Shifter - 1
Skald - 1
Slayer - 1
Sorcerer - 2
Spiritualist - 1
Summoner - 1
Swashbuckler - 3
Warpriest - 2
Wizard - 2

This is like watching election results come in. You care about the result but you can’t do a damn thing about it… And we’ve got like 10 hours to go. LOL
Looking at that laundry list of class combos, what stands out to me are the one or two pieces of missing low-hanging fruit. I know the meta changes, class combos go in and out of fashion, or maybe it is all ‘reverse psychology’… but some ‘old’ ideas just click perfectly in a new setting. And with Shadow_Fox’s criteria – 4 player only & gestalt vs demons – what I’m not seeing is any flavor of: Arcane Caster / Monk
The ‘hit you in the head’ low fruit would be uMonk (Scaled Fist) / Sorcerer (Draconic bloodline). Hell, that combo alone in Kenabres, under the wings of Terendelev, practically writes your backstory.
Or maybe that is just low fruit for me because (full disclosure) I play sorcerers a LOT. And if I wasn’t already running a uMonk/Sorcerer in another game, I would have been sorely tempted to offer one here.
Anyhow, back to watching the character election results!

Terendelev is definitely deeply tied into the background of my Paladin of Apsu/Draconic Sorcerer.

Lapyd |

I built the character mostly for what I want to play. I always wanted to try a more extreme skill monkey, so the combination of investigator and bard felt great between things like inspiration and bardic knowledge. I realize it’s not optimized (i.e. combining full bab and low bab, saves, etc.) and that in combat my girl is mostly a buffer and supporter, but the game isn’t made of combats only. I love her potential for RP and skills, and I think it has a fun ring to be playing a bookworm of sorts in the midst of everything going on in Kenabres :) her trapfinding is just a nice bonus to help the party, especially with such a small group.

It certainly is and I very much like that about your character. I'm not criticizing yours or anyone else's build. I'm just commenting on an absence that stood out to me. If I've offended anyone, I apologize. I'm just killing time while waiting for 6PM EST. :D

Janus Alistair Eden |

It is somewhat amusing, though.
Someone very early on wrote about doing a Draconic Sorcerer, which is why I avoided the idea. And when I posted, there was no or only 1 other Paladin.
Now there's a lack of Sorcerers and an abundance of Palas :D
But it's amusing, because I had considered exactly the scaled Fist/Draconic Sorc - then briefly an empyreal sorc to open other Monk archetypes, then figured this AP definitely needs a Paladin and too few are in the runnings.
How things shift-

Bengi asuli Fidan |

I'm surprised to see several Rangers but no Slayers, also only one Fighter. If I weren't itching to try out Bengi's archetypes, I would have chosen either of those over Ranger.
Studied Target along with trap finding available at 2nd level makes it better than Ranger IMHO. Gestalt solves the Fighter's problem of lacking out of combat utility.
It is true being guaranteed lots of demons bolsters Ranger's Favored Enemy in this AP, but I'm still surprised by the number of Rangers.
I also figured I'd see Magus used more.

Maia Blackwing |

I can’t speak for anyone else but I know I intentionally went for something unusual and thematic instead of the classics. Obviously it’s not as optimized as pally/bard or ranger/warpriest (or swashbuckler/wyrm singer skald which I think is way underrated), but it should make for a memorable character. And who hasn’t ever wanted to smite with an elemental blast, lol.

Ranger, which is usually unpopular, simply gives an extremely strong chassis for more interesting (medium bab) combat classes via gestalt rules. Hell, with Favored Enemy Spellcasting and Foebane Magic you could make a super strong caster, too: effective +3 to saves DC OR Favored enemy bonus applied to ranged touch spells.

I... em... wanted to apply with some ideas I usually have in mind but never get the chance to play - either I don't get picked out the game pops out early. But they were too similar to some other applications, so I finally went the other way around - a combination I've never done before.
I want to play the PC I've had in mind for this AP from the beginning and it wasn't going to happen with this round so I sat it out.
Doubtful I'll ever play this AP.
Severa Zadyra |

Cutting it a bit close but here’s caster4life’s submission! Sorry the backstory is so long. I felt there was a LOT of ground to cover to explain why she is who she is (personality but also racially), why she’s in Kenabres, and what her goals are.
I’ve got a good deal of play-by-post experience, playing and GMing a lot since 2017. I like keeping a good posting rate in my games and enjoy a mix of tactics/building strong characters and well-developed characters in compelling plots.
Severa’s build starts out a little weak in terms of offense but I think she’ll pick up nicely around level 3 when just about everything will be sneak attacks against touch AC. Also, she’ll have some party buffing abilities with the vanguard slayer archetype and, you know, wizard spells.

Maia Blackwing |

My profile has been updated to include my fluff, and should be ready to go. I would have liked to write a longer background but with 21 or 22 applications to sort through I thought I better try to keep it relatively brief; I think it still does an adequate job of explaining who she is and whatnot (it doesn’t offer much in the way of hooks, but as APs don’t usual make use of those it didn’t seem like an issue- I could give some if you want them for anything).
Oh, and I’ll say again that I’m EDT/EST too so that you don’t have to go back looking for that.
