Markosi dismisses this argument with a wave. “Pah! We Dataphiles know what we’re doing. Technology is one tool of many, yes, but it’s the most powerful tool we have. Surely, a few hiccups along the way don’t merit abandoning an entire field of study!”
Intimidate: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
"It is true that most 'hiccups' are a minor matter with most caused by excessive eating or drinking, particularly carbonated beverages. Others common causes are excitement or emotional stress, sudden temperature changes, or swallowing air while chewing gum or sucking on candy," intercedes Doctor Remhorhaz. "But, don't think for an instant that 'hiccups' can't be something quite serious!"
"An extended bout of hiccups, those lasting forty-eight hours or more, are a strong indicator of the existence of a consequential medical condition, such as damage to or irritation of the vagus nerves or phrenic nerves, which serve the diaphragm muscle. Such factors that may cause damage or irritation to these nerves include a tumor, cyst, or goiter in the neck, gastroesophageal reflux, or a disorder of the central nervous system among others!"
"Think, before you speak, Man!"

"Seriously, as a mechanic, I know I can always rely on the technological stuff if I am asked to repair it." added Bervede as he shows his head closer to Markosi.

Floquet appeals to their sense of reason, while Zantai ponders another outbreak. Rex and Berverde get in each others' way.
The debaters grow tired of arguing and break off in opposite directions, dispersing the crowd. A copaxi walks by and thanks the PCs for keeping things civil. Faelin returns a bit later and thanks you for your assistance, handing you a diplomat serum of enhancement.
The remaining trip to the archives is uneventful. While the archives feature rooms filled with humming servers and computer workstations, Royo is in a side room filled with printed and bound texts.
“Have you found the Barbadash files?” a ysoki in a tweed suit asks, snout buried in notes. After a moment, he looks up from the papers on the table, peers through the spectacles perched at the end of his snout, and grins. “Aha! You must be the agents Ehu promised to send! Welcome! Come in, have a seat. Would you care for some tea? The stuff they serve in the canteen is swill! I imported this blend from—oh, never mind! There’ll be time for chatter later.”
Royo hurries over to an antique tea trolley, pours piping hot tea from a porcelain teapot into mismatched teacups, serves the tea, and returns to his seat. “For those of you I haven’t met, my name is Royo. I’m a former field agent, longtime scholar, and, for the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in the Starfinder Society Forum. I also fund and maintain numerous archives throughout the Pact Worlds and Near Space that specialize in physical documents, books, and research materials. It would seem my efforts in recent months to encourage the Society to embrace the ways of paper and pen have amassed me a bit of a following!” He grins warmly.
“After the events of the Data Scourge, the Cognates and I have been working on cleaning up remnants of that debacle. Unfortunately, we’ve discovered a nasty bit of rogue code causing havoc in the greenhouses, and my most skilled combatants aren’t on the Station at present. I was hoping you’d be willing to head down there and sort it out. Think you’re up to it?”

cmlobue |

We are happy to assist, Supervisor Royo. Do you have any advice as to what to expect from the rogue code?
“My agents described the problem as a sort of fragmented manifestation of the Data Scourge. They said it reminded them of constructs they saw about a year ago. According to them, the code kept scurrying about the place, taking potshots at Starfinders when they could. We’ve sealed the doors to the greenhouse and are pretty sure they’re contained inside—for now.”

![]() |

And we go to investigate this to find out what it is really.
The halfling looks at his pistol to verify if it’s all right.

![]() |

"Do I think I'm up to it?" Doctor Remorhaz repeats. "Why of course! I am a doctor!"
"I deal with killer viruses on a daily basis. The electronic form can't be that different," surmises the biohacker. "Let's go pull the plug on these electronic evils."

cmlobue |

The group heads for the greenhouse. Two Starfinders stand in front of the door to a large glass greenhouse, blocking entry. “Stop! It’s not safe to enter!” they announce. Beyond them, inside the greenhouse, large trees sway in a simulated breeze, their thick branches obscuring much of the view.

![]() |

Coworkers, we are here on the instruction of Supervisor Royo. Please cease your obstruction immediately, Zantai broadcasts into their minds. Intimidate if they won't move voluntarily: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

cmlobue |

When Zantai explains that they’ve been sent to deal with the problem, the agents sigh with relief. They introduce themselves as Maisie Valro and Kolvii and explain that the rogue code has taken the form of two glitchy robots that blast lasers from their faces. Before unlocking the door for you, these Cognates offer to lend the PCs a weapon: a liquidator disintegration lash, explaining that the weapon seemed effective against the code.
Please place yourselves on the map on Slide 3.

![]() |

I am familiar with melee combat and will utilize your tool. Zantai will ready the liquidator disintegration lash. Unless somebody else wants it? Zantai was just going to whack with a reach weapon anyway, might as well do maximum damage.

![]() |

Walking into the greenhouse, Doctor Remorhaz marches to the front of the group, holding up a pair of syringes. "The lot of you look a little peaked. May I interest you in a steroid or stimulant? Its affect lasts less than 30 seconds, but that should be long enough to put a bit of pep in your step."
Offering a biohack (which lasts 4 rounds):
Steroid: The target gains a +1 enhancement bonus to AC.
Stimulant:The target gains a +10-foot enhancement bonus to their speed. If the creature has more than one movement type, choose one to receive this bonus.

Berverde looks at the medic and at the greenhouse, and tells "I may be able to get some hit, but if nobody needs it, I can take some steroid."

Offering a biohack (which lasts 4 rounds):

Whole post got eaten by the Data Scourge. Let's try this again.
Han Solo uses the pseudo-natural terrain to gain an advantage over the robot. When the shot hits, the remnant dissolves in a shower of pixels, appearing adjacent to Han Solo.
Rex gives Han a boost to defenses.
Zantai tries whipping the construct, but it is unwhipped.
Floquet places a shot perfectly on Cyan, but is disappointed to discover that it does not bleed.
Berverde also fires on Cyan, and it begins to short out.
