Was waiting on Cev to reroll but I'll scoot things along.

Caiten fires an arrow at the half orc, who has some cover from the railing of the platform -- but he's suddenly quite nervous, and unsure of his footing as you all begin to emerge and fire upon them, and the arrow scores a line along his arm.

Yasami becomes as a ghost in the trees, silently creeping into a more advantageous position.

Cev launches a dagger at his foe telekinetically, but it plants itself into the rail, unless a wrinkle in time and space changes that outcome...

Alak Stagram is a man most at ease with a very very big sword. But such things are not much use when your cowardly, law-breaking foes are playing in treehouses and won't come down. He runs from the trees and hefts one of his two javelins, launching it at the woman whose brother Dario killed.

strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

She's frightened, but also behind cover, and the strike just misses.

-------------Bad Guys--------------

The two mercs on the small northern platform spot Cev, and take aim at him, designating him as their prey.

other one, strike 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
other one, strike 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

It's a difficult shot to line up, though a number of leaves. Three of their arrows are deflected and go wide, on clatters against Cev's armor but finds no purchase on his person.

On the main platform, the one on the lower platform, in the northwest corner, takes aim at Oren. (Hunt prey)

strike 1: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 2 = 23
strike 2: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 2 = 4

damage to Oren: 1d6 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + (8) = 10

One of his shots finds purchase in Oren's arm, but not deeply -- enough to bleed but not disable the big man.

The orc on the highest platform targets Lisi. "Big words," he calls down, trying to reassure himself.

strike 1: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 = 22
strike 2: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 2 = 13

damage to Lisi: 1d6 + 1d8 ⇒ (3) + (7) = 10

His first shot hits Lisi in the shoulder. "Only worm I see around here is you."

Snapping his attention in the direction of the falling mercenary who lands with a thud, he notices the gaping hole in his forehead. Grinning and nodding at how impressive that shot was, "Nice shot, Dario ol' buddy."

Not a moment later though, his attention is quickly diverted to the multiple arrows that strike true. Grimacing in pain at the one that lodged itself within his leg, "Son of a...!" the barbarian's anger rises and he immediately aims for the supports of the watchpost.

Caiten watches a bit puzzled as he stands in the open in the middle of the field and is completely ignored while nearly everyone else around him is being shot at. "I guess I am just not seen as that much of a threat. I suppose I shouldn't complain too much about that."

Quickly assessing the injuries that his allies have sustained, he calls out to Joran, "Joran, are you surviving reasonably well?"

Lisi moves up and extends an arm towards two affrighted mercenaries. Guba sensibly stays back, watching the warglets (at least, onlookers think Guba is watching; Guba doesn't really have eyes, per se.)

"You know we only need one of you alive to bring us to Voz, yes? Or you could surrender right now. We don't even need you hale, just alive."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Dario's shot wounds the fellow up top, but his scan of the ladders reveals little in the way of use -- they pulled them up in a hurry, and the messy piles would take more than a bullet to knock free.

Joran knocks two of the supports free as he rages against the structure. Oren joins him shortly and a third support goes. A quiet creaking gives you hope that your strategy will work.

reflex vs. scree lower: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

(technically scree has to target two contiguous 5 foot squares, and they are 10 feet apart vertically, but since the rocks are falling from the sky I'll let ya swing it.) Rocks rain down on two of the mercenaries, pelting them and causing them to flinch under the barrage.

The sister of the dead merc can't get a shot lined up on Dario, between the tree he's ducked behind and Alak standing in the way. She runs to the southern end of the platform to get the hellknight out of her way, at least, and fires two shots at the gunslinger, too enraged to choose an easier target.

strike 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
strike 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Her rage is of the blinding sort, apparently, and both shots fly wide, one landing closer to Yasami than Dario.

The two on the southern small platform, uncaring about Joran's inner thoughts and self reflection, fire a barrage of arrows at the man as he tries to bring the platform down.

In Joran's rage, he's less careful than normal, and four of the arrows find their marks, three slicing open wounds, and another one slamming into his torso. He is beginning to regret turning Caiten down, and breathing hurts...

Alak looks to Caiten, whom he has assessed to be the closest thing to a tactician in this mess -- albeit one whose advice is not always heeded. "I'm useless if I can't reach them," he growled. He chucked his last javelin at the sister.

strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

He throws his hands up and gestured in a 'see what I mean?' sort of way. "Open to bright ideas... in the meantime I'll see if I can't draw some fire." Seeing the pincushion Joran has become he runs in that direction and waves his arms at the two on the southern platform. "Oooo, better stop me before I knock you out of that tree!" strike 3: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
damage from second guy to Lisi: 1d6 + 1d8 ⇒ (5) + (8) = 13

Two arrows sink deeply into Lisi, and he feels himself growing cold as shock sets in. Guba shivers his foliage in concern, and the warglets, usually well trained enough to hang back when told, charge out to stand in front of Lisi, growling and yipping in an adorably ineffective attempt to protect him. "Aww, what's wrong? Not feeling so hale and alive yourself now?" one of the half orcs taunts.

Emerging from the cave and moving around the sides of the cabin, two armored, animated skeletons emerge, lumbering with the unnatural gait of a corpse brought back to life. Behind them comes the hobgoblin leader of the mercs, appearing around the southern side of the cabin.

Then, stepping forth from the cave, only clearly visible to Yasami, is a beautiful blonde half elven woman. Her face is a mask of cold fury. She casts a spell and a shimmer surrounds her briefly before settling onto her person, as she places mage armor upon herself. She turns her head to the hobgoblin. "What am I paying you for? I told you to watch for them and you let them get this close? I want them dead. Amateurs."

Their strongest melee fighters were being struck again by arrow after arrow, it was awe-inspiring to to watch what should've brought a lesser man or woman to their knees be ignored. Yet there was too much blood being spilled and not enough time for them to adjust. Lisi's eyes bulge. "Thank you, Caiten," he says, as his life is restored. His eyes resume normal size and then narrow with anger.

"Dario, I think that you, me, and Lisi are the only ones who have reliable ranged attacks and can reach these people on the other platforms."

Caiten and Cev take a moment to see to the wounded among you as the new foes enter the field of battle. Lisi casts his spell upon the two on the northernmost platform...

fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 (crit fail)
fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 (success)
fort save skeleton: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 (success)

The cloud of ash and smoke fills the area around the northern platform, and the two mercenaries began coughing. "Ah! Can't see!" one of them cries out, rubbing uselessly at his eyes. One of the skeletal champions also makes a coughing sound, oddly enough. Because just as ash cloud doesn't provide concealment, undead aren't immune to breathing.

Alak grins at Cevendyll. "You're a handy man to have around. Now, then. Can't shoot me if I'm under their platform, eh?" He ran under the southern platform and swung his blade at the hobgoblin.

strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
damage to hobgoblin: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

His strike just manages to connect with the nimble leader, and she grunts with pain, not having expected any of you to be quite so near.

The bald merc who wasn't blinded on the northern platform squints against the ash. "We can't stay in this," he told his friend. "Come on!" He kicked the rope ladder down and moved out of the cloud.

The blind one feels around for the ladder, taking a while to find it, only just managing to climb onto it.

The skeleton who'd been passing around the north side of the shed spots Cevendyll, and moves to engage, but his longsword glances off Cev's armor.

strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

The other skeleton moves under the platform to flank Alak, who takes the opportunity to try and hit the undead as it maneuvers.

Alak's attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
damage to skeleton: 2d12 + 4 ⇒ (3, 11) + 4 = 18

Alak hit the thing critically, stopping its movement and breaking severl ribs from its cage. The skeleton resumes its original course, but doe not have time to strike against the hellknight.

The hobgoblin woman sets her sights on Alak (hunt prey) and strikes with her weapons.

Flurry: Dmira’s multiple attack penalty against her hunted prey is –3 (–2 with an agile weapon) on her second attack and –6 (–4 with an agile weapon) on her third or subsequent attacks.

strike 1, rapier: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

strike 2, dagger: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
damage to Alak: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Voz sees the surrounded hellknight and sneers. "Be a good little soldier and die." She pulls back her arm and an arcane bow appears in her hand. She unleashes it, firing a green arrow at the hellknight that drips acid as it flies.

acid arrow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
damage to Alak: 6d8 ⇒ (4, 7, 1, 8, 4, 2) = 26

Alak has just enough time to say "Oh crap..." before the arrow strikes him right in the sternum, melting a hole right through his armor. He falls to the ground, unconscious. Alak is Dying 1, and will be taking persistent damage from the acid arrow, so he is in a scary spot...

Lisi, Joran, Oren, Dario and Yasami are up, I bumped her to keep it moving.

Dario nods in agreement with Caiten; his pistol was their covering fire and where he was, he could still target the enemies down the range. Taking aim at the snipers above where Alak was fighting, Dario reloads and fires.

Oh my gosh I've killed us all. *slams head on desk* Boy nothing looks good at this point. Ugh.

"Oren! Little help! Alak is down!" With the archers picking them apart from on high, undead warriors heading straight for them who should be dead, Voz launching acid blobs that may or may not have killed Alak - and who knows how many more of those she has in her back pocket - and Joran not knowing how many more hits he can take, he just shakes his head at how dire the situation has become. "Ah, there is where Yasami went."

Was busy today, and figured Lisi might get around to posting if I procrastinated -- I know they had an exam yesterday, probably still recovering =)

Dario manages to clip one of the southern mercs with a shot, but it's not nearly as effective as his opening volley. Joran, too, finds himself unable to get a solid hit in. He asks, however, and Oren delivers, bringing his maul down to scatter the bones of the skeleton all over the nearby ground. Cev's dagger just nicks the other skeleton, not designed to do much damage against such a fleshless foe.

Yasami abandons her stealthy approach and douses Alak with water, washing the acid from his chest and putting herself in a precarious position to do so, enemies all around.

Fortunately for her, the archers right overhead were not paying close attention to the base of their watchpost, assuming their leader would finish the hellknight who ran underneath them. This was unfortunate for Joran, however, since his shouting got their attention. Both use hunt prey on Joran.

Caiten looks around the battlefield considering the various combatants on both sides. "There is too much to do and not enough time to do it in."

He looks over at the still living enemy that fell off of the platform that Joran and Oren damaged. "Such as that one. Lisi, can you handle him?"

He moves forward next to Joran and hoping to keep the trunk of that tree between himself and the archers on the platform, but not certain that it will work. He takes a look at Alak from there. "Ah, good work Yasami. I can keep him from dying - I'll stabilize him in just a moment. You should keep yourself from dying too though."

The heroes of Breachill had been through quite a bit together this week. But never had things felt quite so dangerous. There were a number of enemies still up, and the party's resources were being depleted. The archers kept firing with near-impunity, and now Voz had taken to the field, a known necromancer who'd already dropped one member of the group.

Caiten bought Joran some time, keeping him from death's door, or so both men hoped.

Lisi shot a both of lightning at the prone orc who'd fallen from the collapsing platform (feel like I missed his last turn but whatever, he landed badly. Also electric arc we determined is 30 ft from you, not 30 feet from one target to the next, methinks, since chain lightning goes out of the way to specify doing the latter.)

reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 Far as I can tell, prone doesn't affect reflex saves -_-

The wily bastard rolls out of the way and the bolt misses him entirely.

Cevendyll has similar poor luck, his dagger flying wide of his mark.

Alak flat check for dying: 1d20 ⇒ 14

With Yasami's quick thinking and selfless move washing the magical acid from his wound, Alak slips out of Pharasma's clutches for the moment. Yasami can see his breathing is stable, and while he remains unconscious, he is in no danger of bleeding out, so long as the mercenaries have more pressing foes to attend to.

The prone merc clambers to his feet and runs at Lisi, taking a swing at the druid.

strike: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

He's distracted and misses as a pair of warglets rush in to protect their papa, biting at his shins. Using guard dog stats, because why not?

Rocco sinks her teeth deep into the merc's leg, finding an artery. The little grey warg pup's jaws are soon covered with blood, an eerily cute preview of the monster she'll grow to be one day. The mercenary collapses to the ground, bleeding out, finished off by a puppy. And thus our babies have their first kill!

The first strike is a painful one, as Yasami takes a slash to her side from the undead creature.

The hobgoblin smirks at Yasami, seeing what she hopes will be another easy, lonesome target. (hunt prey)

The hobgoblin stabs Yasami's shoulder with her rapier, then slashes with her dagger along her arm, and suddenly her earlier comment about suicidal tendencies is coming back to haunt her.

Voz strides out from behind the shed. Quickly surveying the battle, she decides her hobgoblin hireling can dispatch the woman. Seeing the number of individuals arrayed against her, she takes the time to cast another spell upon herself, and suddenly there are four Voz's standing in close proximity to one another, moving in sync.
