Forgot to include that...Tibearius, your spell is active. How long do you wait before reopening the door?

![]() |

What's happening? This isn't simple smoke from burnng webs..
Corbrae readies a bolt in her brand new crossbow, just in case, and listen intensily for an eventual foe coming
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Forgot to include that...Tibearius, your spell is active. How long do you wait before reopening the door?
How about 1 minute?

DM Carbide |

A minute passes and nothing has happened.

![]() |

"Chaarge" she mutters under her breath.

DM Carbide |

When the door opens, the scene seems unchanged: the room is still filled with dense mist, blocking visibility past five feet, and the webbing around the door is still intact.

DM Carbide |

Blitz sniffs the air and whines. Once he gets into the room a few feet Viridian can see the guttering torch on the floor, surrounded by a tracery of ash suggesting the remains of web. The sheets of webbing that were above it seem to have been cut off cleanly, allowing a portion to burn out without spreading to the rest of the dense fabric filling the room.
What is everyone else doing?

![]() |

Nervously following along, but pausing at the door to look up and aranud to make sure she is not ambushed.

DM Carbide |

Is everyone else going into the room?

![]() |

No. As the party's healer I'll stay behind in case something goes south and someone needs patching up.

DM Carbide |

Inside the room, no one can move quickly without risking getting stuck, and the impaired visibility only adds to the issue. Mrs. Book doesn't see anything but mist and webs when she looks up.
Suddenly Joseph and Viridian hear movement from somewhere above in the room, and Tibearius hears something moving under the trap door.

Joseph, drop back if you need me to swap with you.
Unable to reach the spider nor able to see anything else above or below, Viridian will draw a vial of alchemist fire and be ready to hurl it if more bugs arrive.

Mrs. Book, waiting for this moment, launches a magic missile at the spider.

The dancing lights don't help here because of the opacity of the mists.

Round 1 (ongoing):
Blitz finds that the spider's many legs make it difficult to bring down. Joseph feels his strength ebbing, but still manages to hit the man-sized creature.
Mrs. Book, you can choose another action since you can't target the spider.

![]() |

Why is Mrs. book unable to target it? Is t dead now? BTW, Mrs. book never entered the room. Why is her icon in the room. I had her pause at the door.

DM Carbide |

Mrs. Book is unable to target the spider because it has total concealment from her. (In addition to the webs, the room has an obscuring mist spell effect active, so no one can see anything further than 5' away.) I interpreted your action statement as pausing in the doorway, looking up, and then continuing in if you didn't see anything, but will move you back. With that rearrangement, Corbrae may be able to shoot the spider, although it will have cover (and thus won't get an AoO).

![]() |

Sounds good. So basically she can hear combat but can't really see anything other than vague shapes more than 5' away.
Trusting the others to take care of the threat. Mrs. Book remains in the relative safety of the other room.
"What's going on in there? How can I help?"
Mrs. B simply readies an action to fire that MM if anything dangerous comes into view.

![]() |

"A spider in the midst, huh? Don't think I can be much help there other than to make an easy target. Let me know when it is clear to enter."

If Mrs. Book can see the foggy creature, she will unleash that magic missile at it. If not... she waits.

DM Carbide |

She can indeed see the shadowy spider.
The arcane dart tears into the fabric of the creature, leaving a hole behind it that's slow to fill back in.
Anyone want to bot Tibearius?

Tiberius will thrust his spear at the blue spider that crept up behind him.
