This is the recruitment thread for The Rat's Repentance, a repeatable tier 1-4 Starfinder scenario.
I don't need your SFS number yet; if you're picked you can put your information into my spreadsheet. What I would like to know is:
Your characters class, level and species
If you are new to PbP or Starfinder
Or if you have earned a Racial Boon from GMing that you need to level up
Those are the factors that I will be basing my recruitment on. Feel free to apply!

Yeah,so if you haven't played this style of quest scenario before (PF 2 does quests differently) it's split into 4 quests that would normally take about an hour to complete. It's designed so that if you're running this at a convention or a location that can't host a 4-5 hour session people can still play and get partial credit. But if you play all 4 parts it ends up being the same experience and treasure as you'd get playing a normal scenario. You'll get 1 XP and credits based on your level.

Well, you "level up" when you apply chronicle sheets to your character. And the kinds of players that get racial boons from GMing often like replayable scenarios to help their characters advance in level; sometimes because they have already played or GM'd a lot of the low level content already or they want to quickly get to higher level content.
So yeah, you would qualify as a priority pick for me, as I always want to open tables up for those who GM! Not that I'm getting a ton of takers so far.

Well, that makes 5 players so far and a fairly balanced team at that. One more recruit would be nice!
Everyone who has posted so far can dot in the gameplay thread. Since I won't have time to get the scenario launched until Sunday, that gives us a little more time to potentially get a full six person table.

Okay, feel free to dot in Gameplay! If everyone dots in, we should have a full six players.
Also in my signature there are slides and in that there is a spreadsheet I'd like people to fill out. That's what I use for reporting and chronicles, so please put your info in there instead of posting in Discussion.

I've come across this a little late but if there's still a slot I'd like to at least try my hand.
I am new to Starfinder as a whole so I don't have a SFS character set up (yet) but can put together something pretty quick - I have an android mechanic that has yet to get played, and while I'm new to Starfinder I'm not new to PbP, just still getting the hang of the Paizo boards.

MrMantis, I have only three people who have dotted in and filled out the slides, so if you do that you are in.
If you're new to the Paizo boards, dotting just means making a quick post in Gameplay then deleting it. That will put the character down in the Players tab and save this thread in your profile as a game you're in.

Yep, unless you have a boon it's always level 1; with 1000 credits in gear. Also, since people are playing higher level characters, I would allow you to play a level 4 pregen and then apply the credit to a level 1 character. This might be preferable, as you'll be pretty vulnerable as a level 1 in a higher tier scenario.

Every class has a pregenerated iconic character, so there is a good variety. Right now the party is pretty balanced so I would say pick one from a class you've wanted to try or that looks cool to you. You can download them at the link below. The mechanic is a Ysoki with a scout drone if your interested in trying out a mechanic. And I've seen a lot of people use the technomancer or soldier.

It is up to you of course but I would suggest going with a level 4 pre-gen. One solid hit and your character could easily die from the massive damage rule. A level 2 character is not immune from this danger as well but I feel that it is considerably less likely. :)
That's actually a good point I hadn't considered.
Pregen it is. I'll pick the Android Operative and attempt to copypaste all the relevant info for the GM and jump in ASAP.

Quests are typically stand-alone missions with time to rest (and usually recover spells) between them. Most of the quests I've done, you're literally going from planet to planet, so you start each one-hour mission completely refreshed. I really don't think there's a reasonable chance of death on a tier 1-4 quest pack.

![]() |

I understand that death by attrition is unlikely in a quest pack however
death by massive damage is a real possibility for a level 1 character.
I have seen it first hand in a 1-2 sub-tier adventure with a powerful attack (not even a critical) that shredded the level 1 character. Playing up can only add additional risk.
Putting all that aside I think that the new player will just be able to do more and have more fun with the level 4 pre-gen. This is not PF1 where you can start off with a powerful character at level 1 if you put your mind to it. The power ceiling is rather low here. :)

I have to agree with George, I don't have the HP to withstand a lucky dice roll. Or an unlucky one ;)
Apologies, I had real life sneak in and need to be handled, but it shouldn't be too massive a distraction.
@GM - I'm picking the lvl 4 operative, Iseph, and I'm working out how to copypaste their stats to where they can be read and will change the cosmetics here too

Twentyseven; when you make an alias you are always able to change the description; but the name and I believe the picture are locked in after 10 posts. You can also make a dummy alias that isn't tied to any character number (just don't ask me how...I remember it being kind of fiddly when I did it but a lot of people do that for animal companions/eidolons and even familiars)

Hey all.
I wanted to apologize for being quiet - there's some real life issues that have to be handled and well, they're massively distracting (to put it lightly) and rather than ghost on you I should probably step back and offer up my spot.
If things settle in the next few days and there's still a chance to jump in I'll ask, but for right now I wanted to say thanks for giving me the chance to play and I hope y'all have a good game.
