Am I correct in assuming that the refugees from Elturel are outside the Basilisk Gate? Is there any way to get out there and possibly to the dwarves of Blackgate?

Still, something needs to be done...

If you need a more character motivation I just stumbled across this little lore snippet:

Quote:
To atone for their failings and sins during the Time of Troubles, the Tormtar had to undertake various obligations and responsibilities called the Penance of Duty. To fulfill the Debt of Persecution, they had to aid the faithful of good gods whom they'd persecuted, such as by guarding their temples or helping them become re-established. In addition, they had to fulfill the Debt of Dereliction by expending every resource possible to eliminate cults of Cyric and Bane, and the Debt of Destruction, by locating and recording areas of dead and wild magic and repairing the Weave.

But yeah, sort of wish we had picked a different backstory thingy at the beginning...this one has been sort of flaccid and redundant.

Then Donal will add, channeling his best Danny Ocean.

... Yeah, something will be done. Whatever you need of be Mal, whatever you need.

Just a note of appreciation. You're doing a bang up job DMing this.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Thanks man, had a few snow days. :)

Hey sorry all, I've been sick with Covid past few days, and will be dealing with that. I'll try to post if possible, but feel free to bot me. Just notifying my games.

2nded Hela, especially putting up with me.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Had a surprise hospital trip that took an unreasonable number of hours (everything is fine), getting updates together for today now.

We are all patient, besides, this is the most DT that I have been able to spend in any campaign, so of course, I am loving it!

Grand Lodge

Yep

AvernusArt 2Grid

Time crunched, not sure I can post more than once today.

A/ That was BRILLIANT
B/ Did NOT see that coming
C/ Maybe Kelemvor and some of the other gods were taking notes about Gorns gleeful desecration of graves and turning bones of the dead into jello treats ;)

Hehe, regarding C I hadn't considered that angle (but now wish I had).

just want to the say, the absolute sucker punch it was coming to try and check up, only to be hit with 90+ posts. Oh man.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Tibs, really you could just read the last few of Mal's posts and be caught up. Party is planning some kind of assault or investigation of the Low Lantern tavern.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Ok guys, Gorn has the last word for the mansion scene but I think we are ready to move back to 'normal' game-mode. Thanks for indulging me with this downtime/sandbox...freeform stuff like this with multiple player-created arcs all going at the same time is really my favorite thing to run as DM. But I know it can also be confusing and overwhelming.

Will have a little something to regroup and prompt the next stage of the adventure in the next few hours.

Grand Lodge

Cool. I enjoyed it

Yeah, that was fun, and wildly missing from other campaigns that I have played...

AvernusArt 2Grid

Loving this discussion, Donal/Grim/Mal take inspiration if dont already have it. Will give Tibs a bit to join in before pushing forward.

Guys, my son's school is back to virtual this week, so I will be crunched a tad. Still expecting 1 post a day but likely not more than that.

I know, right? Doesn't that just fit the best!! =}

Wouldn't the orcs, who bring warfare to a new level, be on par with the people that invented concept like Blitzkrieg and weapons like the Strumgewehr and the Sturmgeschütz.

I mean, even if you don't know what a Sturmgeschütz is (I imagine there might be one or two on the planet that don't know, so I'm mostly speaking theoretically) just by looking at the word it sounds like it's gonna kick something in da buttocks!

Nice... I love languages and assigning language families or cultures to fantasy races, especially for the pre-baked settings.

My own campaign is a different story altogether... :p

FWIW I always imagined German as Dwarvish. And Orcish as Hungarian from the great hordes of Mongols and Huns.

Grand Lodge

Not bad as a concept

For me, (and these people) Dwarves will always be Scottish. =)

Oooo! I found the battalion of Dwarves wielding cabers!

dragonborn(red) Sorcerer 3 (storm) HP: 21/21| AC: 13 | Saves: Str: +1, Dex: +2, Con: +4, Int: +1, Wis: +0, Cha:+5| Resist (fire)

Elves always speak Welsh to me. That or french. Normally, woodsy elves are welsh, while the "high" elves speak french.

Drow speak a bastard child of both haha.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Yeah, dwarf=scot, elf=welsch for me.

Male human ftr 5 | AC 17 (19) | hp 46/47 | 5 HD (1 used) | Saves S +6, D +2, C +6, I +0, W +1, Ch +1 | Second Wind used [ ] | Inspiration [ ] | Action Surge used [ ] | passive Perception 14

For me, I have always viewed Dwarvish as dependent on region. The Shield Dwarves of the North are Scottish (because of R.A. Salvatore basically making it canon with Breunor, though it was likely because of Tolkien), though I like that there are some Irish variants in there.

The Gold Dwarves of the South area are closer to Persian, to me. I had a Gold Dwarf wizard that would always say, My friend, my friend... have some tea.

Duergar are often Germanic...

Elves tend to be various versions of High English and French, though I do like fiddling around with things... I sometimes think about South African accents for them, but my South African accent is terrible. I like Drow as Australian, mostly because the meme, but they often do not speak to my PCs, or when they did, the PCs couldn't understand them, so I didn't need to have them speak.

I like playing Gnomes as Dutch, though I do not have many prominent Gnomish NPCs.

Halflings are often that Minnesota accent or the stereotypical Canadian accent.

Dragonborn tend to be that stilted gravelly speech due to Matt Colville.

All hail Matt Colville.

He has made some cracking content.

Oh my goodness for the first time in my life I just ate some ham while also eating some raisins. My mind is blown. This is so good I can not, at this moment, understand why the human race would have any other eating options that are not ham and raisins.

*Welcome to Big Hamm's Ham and Raisins, may I take your order?*

"Hi, yeah, I'd like an order of ham, but does that come with raisins?"

*Yes sir, all of our ham comes with raisins.*

"Honey, I'd like some raisins, but does that come with ham?"

"Hey! Ah, does your raisins come with a side of ham?"

*Yes, sir, all of our raisins come with ham.*

"Hey, that's great. Okay, I'll take a Big Hamm's Ham and Raisins, one Mrs. Hamm's Raisins and Ham, and, hey, son, what do you want? Uh-huh, uh-huh. Hey, do you guys serve cheeseburgers?"

*Uh, sorry sir, I'm only 17. I don't know what that is.*

"Ha ha! I got ya! Yeah, sorry, make that 2 Big Hamm's."

*Thank you, sir. Please drive forward.*

Had a similar experience with raisins and vanilla ice cream.

Will get a post up later tonight, thanks for patience.
