Were the two of them close enough to the wall that she did not just ice cube her own patrons? Or did some bystanders get caught in the blast?

I think we may be punching above our weight class here, boyos!
I am 100% okay if Gorn dies here. I can think of no better swan song than to die to a caster 3x one's level.
I have thoughts...many thoughts...on this, but I'll save them until the end of the scene.
Heh. I even have a new character all ready to roll out. Let's just say, if that's what it comes to, I'm not screwing anymore. ;-)

Indeed, hope you don't feel like I'm trying to punish that behavior or something. First of all, I would never do something so stupidly condescending. Second, most of my characters are complete screwballs as well.
Just keep Gorn-ing away. Permadeath isn't going to happen to anyone without a clear headsup before the possibility.
If you really want to change characters, I'm totally fine with that, but I rather like Gorn personally. :)

Yeah, this happened before. Previously, I had to dump the cache then log in again... This time, not necessary!

Mal wants to search everywhere for the ledgers (or anything interesting) before they leave the Low Lantern.

My browser has screwed me badly and won't acknowledge new posts, me signing in or allowing me to post. Just discovered today... I thought the forums were just quiet.
Using Brave until I can troubleshoot safari... will catch up on this and some other threads tomorrow.

Apologies. Weekends can sometimes be...bad for me.
Yes, I give Donal Advantage.
I keep thinking this character is bad for the setting. So too, if we've rebelled against the Fist, I don't grasp our motivation for helping them do anything.
GM Infinity
I think the character is spot on perfect for the Forgotten Realms personally. If you read some of Ed Greenwood's splats, such as my personal favorite Ed Greenwood Presents Elminster's Forgotten Realms, the style and attitude of Gorn could have been written by him himself.
I do agree the initial Failed Conspiracy party background and subsequent working for the Fist is extremely poor and awkward, and sorta shot the game in the foot from the get-go. However, everyone has ignored it. I don't think there was a single in-game in-character post anyone has ever made about it? I've only referenced it a handful of times.
But basically, you too were pawns in the Vanthampur's plot. It was your work in the conspiracy which contributed to the Fist's leader, Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard, being dispatched to the Elturel just before it was destroyed. Just as the Vanthampurs wanted. The difference unknown to you at the time was your characters wanted to install an agent of their own into leadership, while the Vanthampur's simply want to outright eradicate them.
Mylivanni's preferred leader, Liana Portyr, never made it in time to step up and take over for whatever reason. So now, you are basically just trying to hold s%~+ together until she can. (However, granted, you have no clue if she actually will or not...) Zodge doesn't seem like a good second option. Perhaps one of you would see yourselves as a better fit, or have some other idea to save Baldur's Gate from being taken over by the Duke.

Nal's personal motivation is self-preservation. The group blew up the Vanthampurs side business and stole a ton of their treasure. The Vanthampurs tried to assassinate their own son, so they will try against our team. They use imps and infernals for information and strength. The team needs to take them out before being taken out. Mal is just using the Fist trappings as it suits him.
Mal has explained all of this in character. Does that help?
cheers

Grim just sorta fell in with the whole thing and wasn't especially committed before. Given the Dead Three have been bought in as a mere political weapon? He's committed now.

Glad you guys found a way forward. It sort of assumes you give a crap about either Baldur's Gate or the surrounding region (which the Fist has a major influence on) in the first place. It would be challenging for me as a player I think, political change isn't a motivation I work into characters like ever.
Atlas, again if you really aren't feeling Gorn, then feel free to make something else. Would much rather you play something you enjoy than suffer through posts or bail completely.
Donal the Seeker
Donal's are to hurt evil, in whatever form it takes and make people's live better... Probably why he doesn't care much for the repercussion of what they are doing right now. The Fist is mostly sh_t and the Dukes are worse.

Is the red devil an imp? If not, Arcana: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 to identify it.
Is it Invisible?

Hey GM
I'm doing some meta-thinking and am wondering something. Did our imp research ever reveal the resistance with regular weapons AND that silvered weapons were an option? I'm asking to find out if I'm a complete idiot. You gave us money for it AND time to buy it. AND I did not buy a silvered shortsword, even though I've the money.
Just asking.
thanks
GM Infinity
Well the question you rolled on was how to locate them, with result reposted below. I remember thinking you were going to roll on multiple questions like once a day during downtime but never came back to it.
Research Roll 19: How can I locate invisible imps within the city?
Tales of War. The Blood War, that eternal struggle beyond the comprehension of most mortals. You come across a fitting (infernal) quote perportedly from the Master of Arms himself, Dispater:
"The cosmos is a grand game. He who knows the rules the best shall win the prize."
One story tells about the the creation of important war missives and the imp's role as courier. The general's message would be written on the inside of an imp's little vest...with the vest lacings knitted into the imp's heart. If the vest is removed by anyone other than the intended recipient, that act kills the imp and causes its body to disintegrate before the message can be read. The imp's invisibility was in such situations a survival instinct, and could make invisible its possessions as well as flesh.
Others tell of more powerful devils taking the form of humble imps in various nefarious schemes. While hard to imagine this being the case with Thurstwell's brood, entertaining the notion leads to another text discussing the other beguiling abilities of imps: shapechanging. They can take the form of beasts (rats, ravens, spiders being commonly discussed) at will, though equipment is not transformed unlike invisibility.

Is Donal in melee range with the imps to count for Mal's sneak attack?
Is it Mal's turn again? The flour attack was a surprise?
Trying not to continue being a complete idiot
thanks
GM Infinity
You're not an idiot at all man, come on. :D
Mal is up, yes. From your deception check earlier you caught them off guard with the flour, so during their first round in combat (which has already transpired) they were surprised and unable to take any actions (other than reactions now).
I suppose Donal being halfway up the ladder with weapon drawn is 5 ft from an imp, so sneak is good to go for either of the imps up there.

Sorry for the disappearance, I lost access to my account for a bit, and with a plethora of other things going on the past week or so didn't feel like dedicating the time/frustration to getting it back.
