Grim (or anyone), just out of curiosity did you ever read the Avatar series (the one that explains Kelemvor's ascension)? Some of those FR novels from the 90s are impossible to read but those were half-decent.

I think I read the first book. All I really remember was that Kelemvor was a were-panther or something... and Cyric supplanted Mask as a god of thieves...

Again on the money thing, Grim and Tib never voted for whatever reason. So let's just go with what we had. Myl takes her fair cut. This means each player has

181.97+200=381.97 gold

You each also had 55.73 gold just after the first tavern fight. Some of you bought some stuff so that number might be less. You might have a little coin from that leftover as well.

Scroll of See Invisibility -150 gp
Traveler's clothes -2 gp

Noble servant uniform -7.5 gp
Noble messenger uniform -7.5 gp

Happy New Year's Eve!

AvernusArt 2Grid

For the uniforms I guess it isn't quite a noble's Fine Clothes (15 gp). Let's just say you can get both for 15 (7.5 gp each).

And Happy New Years. :)

Actually, the Hulk's last message might be a hint. If the Lantern was on fire, would that draw guards away from the Villa so you could infiltrate it easier?

They are in different parts of the city though, the Lantern is a ship turned into a tavern on the water near the docks in the Lower City. The Villa meanwhile is the shining mansion on the hill within the inner walls of Upper City.

Another lore point, is that the guards in the Lower vs Upper City are different. For the Upper City, and anything related to nobles, its the Watch...an organization of paid bodyguards. Elsewhere its the Flaming Fist. Both can dispense immediate justice as they see fit for any crime.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Cool Gorn, had a little something in mind. Will start writing it up. Or anything else. Whats Gorn doing with his tenday? At the very least where is he staying?

Donal wrote:

It can be wherever you want. Perhaps the unholy Aura of Murder ability that causes piercing vulnerability in a 5 ft radius magically weakened the chain links, allowing the dagger to write upon the flesh as if it wasn't there. Or perhaps the attacker simply found a weak spot to exploit. IIRC, you were kneeling under the statue's power at the time so he could've taken a moment to find such a spot.

oh my goodness i need to write this down before I forget it again again.

So, in theory, we could just waltz up to the Low Lantern and start knocking heads, and the only thing we have to deal with is any personal security they have on site?

As much as I do enjoy a good manor burning, the floating, isolated, flammable, almost unguarded ship seems like their weak point.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Yes, its a seedy place but still just a public tavern. Here's the player description from D&D(TM):

Low Lantern wrote:

This old, three-masted ship rocks gently in the water alongside Stormshore Street Dock on the harbor’s eastern side. A notorious festhall and tavern, the ship is no longer seaworthy and is in desperate need of repair.

On warm days and evenings, respectable clients can sit at tables on the upper deck beneath hanging lanterns, smoking and drinking between wagers, while a more raucous crowd congregates around bars and gambling tables on the decks below.

Tiberius wrote:

Its a simple taste test in 5e. Small risk of poison. Should you choose:

zombie one: healing potion 2d4+2
treasure ones: both potions of firebreath

Potions of Fire Breath wrote:

After drinking this potion, you can use a bonus action to exhale fire at a target within 30 feet of you. The target must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The effect ends after you exhale the fire three times or when 1 hour has passed.

This potion's orange liquid flickers, and smoke fills the top of the container and wafts out whenever it is opened.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Zodge's command post/barracks makes sense as a gathering place, but ultimately up to you guys. There's quite a few inns around, including the Elfsong which you are somewhat friendly with the owner. You might have something more 'underground' from your time planning the failed coup together.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Ill go ahead and get the debriefing Zodge post together. It can serve as a scene where all party members are together, and maybe lead to further plans against the Duke.

I've been throwing out a lot of stuff but such behavior is coming to an end with the end of my holiday break. Just trying to get as much as I can out there to feed the sandbox before my work routine kicks back in.

Without rereading this whole game, I cannot think about anything that Mal would want to keep secret from Zodge, except for maybe the treasure, because he might want a share. He can have Myl's share. ;D

It will be interesting how Zodge reacts about Mortlock, the Duke, and the two older brothers.

So I just came across this wtf "Cheeses of the Realm" sidebar from the 2e Player's Guide to the Forgetten Realms. Thought I would share. From the days when 2 pages of imaginary cheese was a good idea to publish.

Cheeses of the Realms:

The cheeses of Faerßn are as diverse as its cities, with nearly as many varieties. Cheese is an excellent foodstuff for a long trip. It stores well, travels without undue spoilage, and adds flavor to even the most common meal.

Chessentan Lotus Cheese: A novelty cheese popular in Chessenta and the old empires that crouch on the southeastern side of the Sea of Fallen Stars, lotus cheese is flavored with flower petals.

Death Cheese: From the swamps bordering Sembia and Cormyr, this cheese takes its name not from its effect but from the creature it comes from—the deadly catoblepas. This creature can kill with a glance. The cheese is reputed to come from the dairies of blind monks, who locate their herds by sense of smell and milk the creatures.

Damarite Red: Bloodcheese from the lands of the bloodstone, Damarite is made of goat’s milk, giving it a sharper, heartier, more pungent tang. The cheese travels well in its heavy, black rind.

Elturian Grey: A heavy, whitish sheep cheese with black veins, Elturian grey is also known as stonework or dwarfcheese. Despite such daunting names, the premiere cheese of Elturel is a tasty, pungent treat.

Farmer’s Cheese: Also called pot cheese or cottage cheese, farmer’s cheese is a simple cheese, little more than aged milk strained through a cheesecloth sieve and drained of most of its whey into large curds.

Green Calishite: Sample at your own risk, for the Calishites mix ground curry in with their cheese as a preservative and flavor-enhancer. Many a northern barbarian has been brought low by grabbing a hunk of green, thinking it an ordinary cheese, and biting in. The curry gives Calishite its radiant aquamarine hue, as well as its very spicy flavor.

Luiren Spring Cheese: Also called halfling’s cheese, mind cheese, or simply “cheeeese,” this cheese is available on a limited basis in Waterdeep only, and then only with the express written permission of Lord Piergeiron, Khelben Arunsun, or the patriarch of an established temple. While not the most pleasing of cheeses to the human palate, its effect on halflings is markedly different, inducing a state of inebriation similar to that caused by strong wine.

Mist Cheese: The Loudwater Vale produces some of the richest cheeses in the North. The elves call this soft white curd the ethereal cheese, for if sliced thinly it becomes translucent while retaining all of its succulent bite. Mist cheese owes its appearance and taste to the practice of ripening the rounds in caves, and the unique taste of mist has never been duplicated elsewhere.

Turmish Brick: This is a crumbly, square burgundy cheese made with the heavy red wine of the region. Made in great platters, the Turmish brick is ripened and carved, and each loaf is wrapped in red wax.

Vilhon Blanc: A light reddish cheese which gains its color and complexion from the lighter wines mixed in during initial straining, Vilhon is a delicate cheese in comparison with Turmish brick, which uses a heavier wine.

No, its 250 days and 1 gp per day for either 1 language or 1 tool. You can break up the days however.

Skill Feats are faster of course, but for those particular kits, and at these low levels when Proficiency Bonus is low, I would think getting advantage on the roll would be just as helpful. You don't need tool proficiency to use a tool.

Also, I noticed just now you didn't customize your background when creating Mal. If you wanted to go back and dump Undercommon for one of the tools I would be fine with that.

AvernusArt 2Grid
Quote:

IMO, Tibs' unique thing he brings to the party is his noble background. I've tried to drop some perks throughout the game (recognizing the prisoners, Mortlock below) but didnt get any bites, you might have missed it.

Tibs is a member of the elite upper class, with the ambition to take control of his own house. The intrigue the party discovered has the Duke seemingly plotting to disable the military and depose the Grand Duke. Is this desirable to Tibs for some reason? Has he allied himself with the Vanthampurs in the past? Would he ostensibly pretend to be an ally to such political motions, only to stab everyone in the back in the end? Or would he more bluntly oppose the Vanthampurs, utilizing the strength of his prestigious dragonborn family?

You also have this ability none else in the party have:

Feature wrote:
Thanks to your noble birth, people are inclined to think the best of you. You are welcome in high society, and people assume you have the right to be wherever you are. The common folk make every effort to accommodate you and avoid your displeasure, and other people of high birth treat you as a member of the same social sphere. You can secure an audience with a local noble if you need to.

Or you could use the time to do spell research as previously mentioned.

AvernusArt 2Grid
Quote:

After finding one, the price would be rolled as base price + 1d6*100 gp.

Adamantine weapons on the other hand, are base price + 500 gp.

Male human ftr 5 | AC 17 (19) | hp 46/47 | 5 HD (1 used) | Saves S +6, D +2, C +6, I +0, W +1, Ch +1 | Second Wind used [ ] | Inspiration [ ] | Action Surge used [ ] | passive Perception 14

Regardless of the price, what I may do is buy a chain shirt for when I need to do the stealth work, and keep the chainmail for the heavy work.

I would like to get adamantine breastplate in the future, but maybe it can wait for a bit. I have always felt that magic arms and armor should have the magic item cost added to the base cost. (I mean a set of mithral or adamantine half-plate costs max 600 gp, while a mundane set of half-plate is 750 gp)...

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter.

Let me know, because I think I really want the adamantine breastplate, or mithral half-plate. rather than +1 armor.

EDIT: Okay, I think I would like to begin on the magic armor, but I would like to go through the temple of Torm, but there does not seem to be one here. Would I be able to go through an Elturel refugee to get some advantage with my Persuasion? (I have a base +1)...

AvernusArt 2Grid

Yes, I agree with the rationale behind base price + rarity. +1d6*100 is for Uncommon.

I probably seem stingy with magic items at the moment, but I'm really not. I'll start dropping them eventually (I love treasure, its one of my favorite things). We just hit 3rd level. Wish lists for everyone are nice to have.

A legendary will drop before you reach tier 2 in this adventure, and its f~&+ing rad. ;)
