Then you see a humanoid creature, about human sized, step around the corner with thick arms and stumpy legs, holding a club...if it is a giant, it's not a very big one...

The creature sees you and he brings his club up.

Mr. Pitch:
"You no Boss!"

He cocks his head, looking at you intently for a brief moment...

Spirit runs after Mheenah. "So was that a miniature giant? Do you think he might have had a space hamster?" the ferret asks. "Oh look, it keeps winding around! Kind of like a snake, right?"

You detect a secret door on the north face of the eastern passage, just 10’ from the door you opened; you see a small spike on the lower part of the secret door and assume pulling it will open said door…

"Secret door!" Spirit exclaims, immediately pulling on the lever with his telekinetic powers.

Lorelei points out the door and the spike to Spirit, who magically opens it to reveal...

...a narrow, dirt-filled crawlspace; but several of you with smaller size can easily traverse it. At the far end of the crawlspace, you find a grave, about a year old, of what appears to be a temple servant. The body looks very old and is wrapped in a rotting leather tunic. Nothing else of significance is found here.

Spirit looks at the crawlspace. "That's weird. Why do you think they hid this? Do you think they forgot about it? Or maybe this was a good person they killed and hid since they're secretly evil cultists!"

Mheenah buzzes off around the winding passages of this maze, coming to several dead ends…but she manages to squeeze through a weak board in the maze and eventually arrives at a rough-cut stairway leading down into what would appear to be a cavern…

Spirit isn't with Mheenah. Spirit, thinking it strange that they dug this hole just for a body, is poking around in it. He even uses his telekinesis to poke the body, just in case it's going to explode into a bunch of icky worms or something.

Those without darkvision will need a light source

This earthen tunnel has no stone shoring or supporting timbers. Consequently, much fresh dirt lies on the floor. Two sets of earthen stairways descend a total of 80' before the passage forks. Here sits a squat, mushroom-shaped lump about 4' high.

The circle on the map (with the red arrow pointing at it) shows the location of the mushroom...

You recognize this overgrown mushroom as a shrieker; not a physical threat, but it emits a piercing scream when light or creatures approach within 10'...

"Wowzee, that's a big mushroom." says Mheenah. "Seems weird it getting so big without others around it, especially since it looks like all this tunneling had been dug up fresh. Like it was planted there maybe."

Mr. Pitch finds a small pebble in the hallway, and casts light on it. The raven picks up the light-infused pebble and drop it at Spirit's feet.
"You're welcome."

"Thanks!" Spirit says, holding the glowing rock in the air with his telekinesis.

He bounds forwards until he can see the mushroom.

"Oh, I know about these things! They make really loud sounds when you get close to them!" The ferret excitedly explains.

"Ummmm..." Spirit thinks for a bit, then proclaims. "I don't know! Though you'd think they'd have some way to get around it... maybe there's a secret door!"

Mheenah taps her chin, trying to be devious.

"OK, so, if it screams when we move too close, we gotta try and get rid of it without gettin' close. You guys have any spells that can hurt it from a distance? Or I suppose we could just chuck rocks at it?--or would that count as movin'?"

Spirit is quiet for a long moment, then suddenly perks up. "I can do it!" he exclaims.

He runs over to Lorelei, casts a spell, and taps her paw... and suddenly Lorelei is on the other side of the shrieker, in the northern passage just out of its detection range.

"I can do that for all of us!" he declares, looking expectantly at his two flying companions.

Spirit teleports you to just beyond the range of the shrieker...after you are all teleported, Lorelei, followed shortly by the rest of you, pick up a familiar foul smell, coming from the east...just like the odor in the cellar of the abandoned inn...

"Ooh, more smelly snake guys. Diggers probably. But why are they diggin' east down here? The rest'a the town is all south and west of here. I'll go look."

Mheenah turns invisible and flutters off toward the stink and the darkness.

Spheres of Power is interesting... in return for being much more limited in selection, you can choose to get access to certain things much earlier than normal depending on your spheres. Spirit has the Warp sphere so he basically has a weak version of Dimension Door.

Spirit wrinkles his little snout. "There's more of those stinky things here! They're probably helping the cult do evil stuff!"

An invisible Mheenah flies eastwards; she spies the passage leads to a small cavern and then bends back around to the west...

Taking a peek into the chamber, she notices four troglodytes lounging around...

Mheenah returns after a few minutes and rematerializes.

"Four of the stinky snake guys, just sitting around. I think they're just diggers -- it looks like a dead end though. No other way out, and no sign of our Masters."

"I think I can check the other passage without them noticing. But otherwise, I don't see much point in fighting them. It'd be four on four this time. One of us might get brained."

"Yeah, you should see if there's anything in the other tunnel, and if not we can just leave." Spirit seems a bit disappointed about the dead end thing.

Mheenah skirts by the troglodytes' lair invisibly and makes her was down the southern corridor leading west unseen...

On the southern wall, she finds two solid wooden doors set into heavy frames that are barred on the outside...

Mheenah whizzes back to the group, so excited that she actually bumps her head on one of the wooden beams in the ceiling once. When she reappears near her companions, she's rubbing her head and hopping about on her tiny feet like a puppy that REALLY needs a walk.

"I found a couple doors! Barred from the outside! Our masters might be in there!"

"Spirit, can you get those two past the screamer mushroom and meet me in the other corridor by the doors?"

"Yes!" Spirit quickly helps the others around the shrieker and to the doors, focused for once by the thought of rescuing his master.
