Mheenah
|
Mheenah buzzes back to the elf's cottage in a state of high excitement. She bursts in and begins relating everything she heard.
"Our masters! They're definitely alive an' being held captive in the temple! I heard the constable and that innkeeper talking about it! They have something special planned for 'em--they say 'SHE' wants to interrogate 'em personally!"
"Ooh, and Lewlylliam? They know about you and your brother and they ain't happy about you at all. They said they wasn't movin' on ya yet because you're friends with the mayor and there ain't enough of 'em yet, but it sounds like the clock is definitely tickin', if you know what I'm sayin'?"
"Hey, where's the weasel?"

There are a couple of buildings separate from the temple. From the looks of one, you assume it's a kennel (for the wolves the Elves told you about, most likely) and you think the other is a storage building.
With some of the glances the folk are giving you, you think it prudent not too tarry here too long...
| Spirit the Ferret |
I feel like this should involve a Will save...
Will Spirit be Spirit?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Spirit happens to see Lorelei as she's leaving the temple and runs over to her. "Lorelei! Lorelei!" he calls out as he runs over to her. "I found something funny! Come see! Come see!"
GM Otha
|
“Good job, Mheenah, that was helpful. And I’m happy to hear your masters are still alive. I had thought they’d be taken to the Temple; but that does not mean they’re still there. The two thugs you saw with the constable are not from Orlane; they are outsiders. The headquarters of this cult probably lies beyond this village; however, you are likely to find clues in the temple if you’re masters are not there. My brother and I can provide a distraction to get you in the temple grounds tonight…but once you’re in, we’ll be of little help…
“As for the ferret, he ran off looking for you…knowing his nature, he could be anywhere by now…”
| Spirit the Ferret |
"Don't you think it's strange? Why would this place be all boarded up like this and have something in the basement! We should go take a look! It might be more cultist things!" Spirit hops back and forth in front of the cellar door as he speaks.
Mheenah
|
"They did mention somethin' else. I dunno if it's important, but they said something about crocodiles wandering out of the marshes to the north. Or was it alligators? What's the difference anyway? They kinda seem like the same animal."
"C'mon Mr Pitch, let's go see what trouble the weasel has gotten into!" says Mheenah, as she hops off toward the door again.
Mheenah
|
"Crocodiles prefer salt water, like the coast, and have a 'U' shaped snout; while the alligator swim in fresh water, like the river, and have a long, pointed 'V' shaped snout."
The quasit's beady red eyes glaze over.
"Oh. Uh huh." she says.
"I suppose," sighed the raven.
"Yippee! You fly around and I'll follow invisibly." says Mheenah as she fades from sight.
the demon's entreaties assailed his sweet repose
sighed the raven: 'I suppose'.

Knowing Mheenah hadn’t spotted Spirit nor Lorelei west of the Elves’ cottage, she and Mr. Pitch headed west…it didn’t take them long to see the building with a slightly ajar door and a smell coming from within…they could also see wolf tracks leading to the door…
Upon entering they see Spirit and Lorelei pondering over stairs leading into a dark cellar…and their noses are likewise assaulted by the strong smell emanating from it…
OK, the band is back together! Now what?
Mheenah
|
"Phew what stinks?" says Mheenah as she snuffles the air luxuriantly, delighting in the reek.
She hops over to the top of the cellar stairs, then invisibly flutters down for a look.

Mheenah flies down for a look at the cellar...
The cellar is a gloomy place and smells musty and rotten, a foul, swampy stench in the air down here. Most of the cellar is one large room, containing several crates and three kegs. Two doors are on the north wall...
Sorry, there's no map here, so it's theatre of the mind...
Mheenah
|
Mheenah comes back upstairs and reappears.
"All clear, if ya wanna come look. Coupla doors is all. Oh and some crates and barrels. Hey, maybe its more smuggled stuff! Smells swampy."
"Ooh! Maybe they got alligators down here! Or crocodiles? I can't tell the difference again. Anyway, come on!"
She buzzes back down into the cellar.
| Spirit the Ferret |
Spirit excitedly comes down into the cellar, following Mheenah. Curious, he climbs up on some of the barrels and crates and tries to find gaps to peek through to see if he can figure out what's in them.
"Maybe there's secret treasure down here that no one has touched for years!" the excitable ferret suggests.
GM Otha
|
You descend into the cellar. The aforementioned crates that Mheenah mentioned all contain spoiled food…and you find the kegs contain wine, which smells and appears unspoiled. You get the idea this used to be an inn…
There’s nothing else of interest in the main room…except possibly what’s behind the two doors…the rank oily smell seems to be stronger from the door on the right…

"Baphomet's butt-hole, how many inns does this crappy little town need?" says Mheenah.
She goes to look over the door on the right.

Mheenah detects no traps and opens the door...
...to reveal three reptilian humanoids with crude stone axes in the room looking towards the door, the stench on them is stronger now and almost sickening...they move with hostile intent towards Mheenah, axes raised...
Everyone except Mheenah (the stench is poison-based and she's immune to poison) make a DC13 Fort Save or be sickened for 10 rounds (–2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks)

Lizard Creatures?: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
As there was no map, we'll try this with theatre of the mind; the reptilians are in the room about 10' away from Mheenah...and we'll say the rest of you are about 20' back from the reptilians...if you think a map would better serve us here, let me know and I'll find a generic one...

Mheenah's face lights up in a grin and she rubs her little claws together.
"Snake people! Ooh, this is gonna be so great!..."
She takes a deep breath, sticks her thumbs in her ears, then jumps into the air so that's she's about face high, then gives a piercing tinny shriek. Her facial features temporarily distort, grow and glow flaming red, and an aura of hellfire surrounds her. For about 3 seconds.
Then she flies off to hide behind Lorelei.
Casting 'Cause Fear' at the monsters, Will Save DC 11. It's a 30 foot radius burst so it should easily get them all.

Meanwhile, Lorelei can identify the creatures, but her sensitive nose yields to their putrid stench...

"Well, yeah! If you don't fight 'em they're just gonna come after ya anyway! Look, when ya bite 'em just don't swallow, ya know?"
"Besides, they ain't so bad. It's a good healthy stink."
