With Lorelei leading the way and Spirit atop her, you make it to the temple doors unseen. The wolf patrols still seem occupied behind the temple...
However, you find the doors locked...

Mheenah shifts back into her normal form and tries to unlock the door.

With a flick of her prehensile tail, Mheenah skillfully and quickly unlocks the temple doors…upon opening, you see…
This large room has a tile floor decorated with an abstract mosaic pattern in orange, tan, brown, and blue. Several tapestries decorate the walls, all depicting scenes of lush farmland and crops in various stages of maturity. Five huge elm trunks serve as columns in the room, and a statue of Merikka, carved from a solid piece of jade, is mounted on a dais on the north side of the room.

Spirit stops concentrating on his spell, allowing the space between the gates and the temple to return to normal. Then he leaps off of Lorelei's back and starts looking around the room.

Spirit sees that the room is empty of foes or any living things. He can easily tell that the statue of Merikka is worth a fortune, although for too heavy far your party to carry out…

"Well, let's start lookin' around, we ain't got all night!" chirps Mheenah as she buzzes off into the room. She looks around, spots the nearest door (the one to the southeast) and heads off to try and listen at the keyhole.

If she hears nothing at the door, she'll try and open it.

Mr. Pitch sees nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary in the large chamber..,
Mheenah hears nothing at the door nor does she sense any traps; she also notes the door is unlocked…
Opening it, she sees…
…that this small room is bare except for three wooden benches. There is a door to the east…

"Looks like a waitin' room. Too bad I ain't in the mood to wait." she says to the raven.
Mheenah moves into the smaller room and checks out the door to the east.

Once again, if she hears nothing, she'll open the door.

Mheenah has gotten quite good with her tail and with another quick flick, she unlocks the door. She opens it to reveal…
A small bed, a trunk, and a desk are the only items in the room. Mheenah also sees a slender and attractive young woman wearing a snakeshead amulet around her neck. The woman turns and frowns at the quasit.
”Who, and what, might you be? Are you a messenger from my Mistress?”

Mheenah flutters into the room.
"Yessss! The... Mistress summoned me to act as her messsssenger and her eyes. I am a quasit! A demon of the Abyss! Her wissshhh is my command!"
"As it is yoursss! I am sent to ask you, what have you done with the four elf friends captured last night at the Golden Grain? She wishes to interrogate them... personally."
She then giggles wickedly.

The lady nods before answering, ”They’ve been taken down to be interrogated by master Abramo and have been prepped for travel to our mistress’s lair…”
Watching Mheenah giggle, her eyes narrow and she frowns. ”But something’s not right here; how could you have gotten here so fast? We just sent word yesterday morning of their capture… and the mistress has yet to use creatures from the abyss before, she prefers troglodytes or humans, so why now? Answer me, quasit creature before I have to get nasty…”
Keeping her eyes on Mheenah, she reaches for the mace lying on her desk…

Mheenah's beady eyes gleam red in the candlelight, and she points a little claw at the woman. "Threaten me at your own peril, mortal! Do you know nothin' of creatures of the Abysssss? We can teleport around your plane as easily as you can walk across this room. And if we're threatened, we can summon other demons to our aid?"
"Not that I would need to employ such methods to deal with you -- the venom in my claws would make quick work of you. So put away your club and be nice!"
"Where is Master Abramo? I wish to inspect the prisoners -- one of them, a girl, may be known to my Mistressss already. I'm to search her for a birthmark, to verify she is the one we believe her to be."

Spirit, of course, chooses this exact moment to run into the room. "Oh, a person! Wait, but..."
The ferret stops and looks between Mheenah and the person (as much as he can see her over the desk from his low viewpoint), almost visibly struggling not to say more.
He still probably blew the bluff. XD

The lady is initially taken aback at Mheenah’s bluff…but then steels her resolve and grabs her mace. ”I think not…and Master Abramo’s whereabouts are none of your business…”
Upon Spirit’s entrance, her eyebrows raise, ”A talking ferret as well? You must be the familiars we were told of! Prepare to die!”

"I'm fine. If the FERRET hadn't run in here, I mighta found out more about where our masters are. Apparently they've been 'taken down' and 'prepared' for bein' sent off to the Snake Lady. After bein' interrogated by 'Master Adamo'. I bet there's more underground tunnels to explore, probably under this dumb temple. But they might still be here!"
"And this is one of the two cleric the elfies said was in here--she wasn't too tough! This'll be a pushover!"
"C'mon, let's toss this room."
Mheenah will explore the desk, trunk and bed.

Spirit seems oblivious to Mheenah's criticisms. "You think they might be down in some tunnels somewhere? Let's go!" the ferret exclaims, running back out into the main room.
...and then running back in the with the rest of the group. "There's a lot of doors, which one do you think we should open next?"

While Spirit runs about, Mheenah’s search turns up several items of note. Upon searching the cleric’s body, she finds a ring and the expensive looking snakehead amulet made of gold with rubies for eyes. She finds nothing of note in or on the desk but, in a trunk by the bed, there’s a suit of chain mail and a shield, along with some clothes…
Upon looking under the bed, Mheenah spies a trap door on the floor underneath…

"Ooooo, shiny!" gloats Mheenah as she picks up the amulet. She holds it out like a talisman. "Look at me! I worship dumb old snakessssss!" she says in a silly voice. "We should keep it. We might need it for somethin'. In fact..."
Detect Magic on the amulet and ring. Mheenah will pocket the ring.
Upon looking under the bed, Mheenah spies a trap door on the floor underneath…
"Aha! I knew it! Hey Spirit, guess what I found! Come on, help me move this here bed!"

Mheenah detects magic on the ring only: she identifies it as a +1 ring of protection...
Moving the bed aside and opening the trap door, you see stairs leading down...

Mheenah drapes the gaudy amulet about Lorelei's neck and slips the magic ring on her own finger.
"I'd bet an imp's spleen they're down there!" says Mheenah eagerly, and she starts hopping down the steps.

Mheenah leads the way down the stairs into a cellar, of sorts…
You appear to be in a long hallway; the walls, floor, and ceiling are of rough stone…

Spirit magically opens the door. Within you see an array of walls studded with iron spikes at odd intervals and heights. At first glance, it looks like this might be a maze of some sort...

Spirit runs into the hall and looks up at the spikes. "Good thing we're all small! Well except for Lorelei who's all big and strong. Maybe the rest of us should make sure there's not some secret switch that makes the spikes try to stab you before she comes in?"

"I doubt these mooks have that kinda engineering skill." says Mheenah with a dismissive wave of her little claw. "But they prob'ly got guards or sentries hangin' around."
She turns invisible and flutters off into the Spiky Halls to check out the path on the far right.

Mr. Pitch hears something that sounds like a grunt; he thinks it likely to the west or maybe north…
Mheenah goes invisible and scouts to the east; she sees the passage turns north for a short way and then back to the west…

From the more westerly passage, Mheenah and Spirit can see the maze goes both east and west and then both turn ends turn south…
Spirit stumbles a bit on his approach, and you hear a voice to the left…
”Hvem går dit?”
…in a language only Mr. Pitch can understand…

"In da basement? That'd be innaresting." answers Mheenah.
GM, how high are the ceilings in here?
"Well, he heard us. Answer him. Tell him it's fine." says the quasit. "Then we'll leave him be and try the *non-giant* passage over there on the right."
