This is the place for you to discuss tactics and stuff out of character, ask questions etc and otherwise have a chat.

The 2nd slide is now available for you to add your tokens.
Just let me know if you have any problems.

Is it common practice in PF2 to take the optional ability flaws in order to get the extra, optional ability boost?
Definitely not. Personally, with everything scaling with level and/or proficiency, I find having a "dump stat" in Organized Play hindering.

Great. Thank you!
I play a lot of Savage Worlds, which has a similar (but less severe) mechanic to optional flaws that everyone does take, so I wanted to clarify.

I think I am juuuust about done with my monk. If anyone is willing to take a look at the build and offer up feedback, I would be most grateful.
The sheet can be found on Google Sheets

Colorfoot, there are some extra options for PFS characters.
Take a look here: Additional Character Options for PFS, including Schools

![]() |

Thanks for running this DM Deevor! What PFS info do you want from us?

![]() |

Hey y'all. I have 2 glyph hero points to give out, so I'll throw them to Rannix and Colorfoot's character.
Thank you!

To clarify, these are options that would replace the Lore skill and Feat from my character's background? Or would these be in addition to what one normally gets at character creation?

![]() |

They're a free bonus lore & feat.
Where on the sheet are your ability scores?

![]() |

@Redd You find ability scores on the Feats & Proficiency tab.
@Colorfoot If you take a school, you get a free consumable for a scenario in addition to your current inventory, (it is given back at the end of the scenario if not used).
I wouldn't take Field-Agent for your monk, as it's your first character and you don't have the crafting skill, best stick to a school. You are probably best going for either Swords school or Generalist School.

Colorfoot |

Alright! I updated Webny's sheet, and I think she's about ready for prime time. She went with the Swords school and picked up Cat Fall, Lore: Gladatorial, and a healing potion. I also adjusted her background to Martial Discipline to reflect her time training in the monestary.
If it's okay with DM Deevor, I'd like to fill out her background information as we go; I'm still ignorant of a lot of the lore in Pathfinder (outside of what can be learned from the comics), so I went a little light on the details.
Her Character Sheet can be found here.
If this looks good, I'll register her as my character with PFS.

@Colorfoot - No, you can be any faction you want to join. I'm thinking of taking you over to the 2001 - 2003 game, as you will meet a couple of faction leaders when we play. The tag means you may receive extra reputation for that faction during the scenario.
So in true GM fashion, I'll reverse my previous alloaction, and ask you to join the Citadel of Corruption game. We'll do that once you have your avatar, and character added to the Paizo site and you have a PFS number for the character. You don't need to write your character sheet out again, but you will need to add a link to the character sheet in your Paizo character's details, if you need help on that, let me know.
Your other question about your avatar, I don't know the answer and will leave it up to you. However when you create your Paizo character details, you will get a selection of Paizo avatars from which you can choose one, like you did with the Colorfoot avatar.
You will also need to make a token for your character to add to the slides for battlemaps etc, which doesn't need to be the same as the character in Paizo, (although it does make it easier for me if they are the same).

Thanks everyone for your help.

Before we start I'll just let you know how I like to play some things.
Secret Rolls
As you know there are some rolls that are done in secret by the GM, e.g. Recall Knowledge rolls. So when this occurs, I will ask if you want to make a Recall Knowledge roll, then if you want to make the roll, make the roll in a spoiler. Looking into the spoiler of secret rolls is cheating and more especially it will make the game less fun for you.
For example I will ask, You can Recall Knowledge Society about the custom of this tribe of elves.,
Type something like this(excluding the dots):
[.spoiler=Recall Knowledge Society]
Society [.dice]1d20+5[/dice]
[/spoiler]
to give
Society 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
If you want me to do your secret roll I will do it for you.
Skill Checks
Sometimes the scenario will prescribe a specific skill check as part of the scenario. As you know, most of the time you can make the skill check roll when untrained, but sometimes you might have an ingenious solution that you think could be used instead of the skill check asked for. I like it when you come up with ingenious and creative solutions to a problem and it adds to the story narrative, then you can use another skill check. However, in this case you will have to explain and describe how you use the skill to substitute for the given check. If you do not provide these details, using the substitute skill check will critically fail.
So I ask for an athletics climb check to get up the rocky cliff. You ask to use acrobatics and describe:
Jumping like a mountain goat from each rocky outcrop on the cliff, your feet are able to grip on the grassy tufts growing there to spring up the cliff. I'd like more narrative but it's just an silly example.
However if all you say is can I use acrobatics to jump up the cliff, or worse [/ooc]I use acrobatics[/ooc] you will automatically critically fail the check.
GM Screen
Easy this, keep out.
I told you to keep out!!!
GM Rolls for NPCs and other creatures
When I make rolls in combat, saves etc, I will make the roll in the open, but will not include the creatures modifier, so if my undead skeleton attacks with his claw you will see Strike Claw 1 1d20 ⇒ 19, Strike Claw 21d20 - 5 ⇒ (20) - 5 = 15.
Assuming you have an AC of 19, you would get damage, as the skeleton has a strike modifier of +7. The damage will be rolled behind the GM screen and you will be given the result.
Apologies if you know all this and I waffled on too much.

![]() |

Please roll my secret checks for me. :)
Nice skeleton attack rolls there. Thank goodness those were just examples!

![]() |

Yeah, get your high rolls out of the way here! ;)

![]() |

I know, it's not going the GM's way is it!!!! :-)

@GM Deevor: Any chance Nal can pick up a Wayfinder before heading out?
No problem

![]() |

Thanks!

![]() |

@Nal...
Don't buy a wayfinder. There are a few boons to get free ones.

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Nal, I will assume you get the Wayfinder from the boons available, (get a free wayfinder for playing in 2 scenarios)
@DM Deevor and Redd: Thanks! I didn't know that.

![]() |

Could someone please direct me to information about about boons, what they are and how to get them?
I've been playing PFS since Season 0, but I can't make heads or tails of the new Player's Guide. I can never find anything I want to know, and since it's a constantly-changing website instead of a fixed PDF, I can't just read it and know what I need to know. Honestly, that god-awful non-document is driving me closer to leaving PFS every day.

![]() |

Go to My Accounts, where you'll find the drop down menu that includes links to your Campaigns and Private Messages. Select Organized Play. It'll prompt you to log in.
Once you've logged in, you'll come to a page with a big dark blue section on top that has "Paizo Oraganized Play" written in it, and underneath that a medium blue section with links to the FAQ, Policies, Forums, etc. Directly underneath the medium blue section you'll see some small tabs that say Summary, Sessions, GM/Event Coordinator, and Boons. Click on the Boons tab.
Once there, near the top in the center, you'll see a drop down menu to select which character you want to purchase for. Some boons may not require that, but I'm not sure of all the details. Boon cost in red means you can't afford it yet; black means you can. You may get Chronicles that mention boons. Those can be purchased from a section farther down the page called Chronicle Boons. Most GMs, if you show them the Chronicle Sheet, won't give you a hard time if you forgot to go purchase it. Starfinder Society boons are towards the bottom, and the PF Playtest ones are at the end.

![]() |

Thanks for that. I never knew.
Okay.... I have a lot of points to spend and I'll definitely have to take some time going through all of those.
So is it necessary to purchase and print out all the 0-point boons to which I'm entitled? Seems like a lot of dead trees.
I assume there's some limit on how many of these I can use at a single table? If so, where would I find that limit?
Also, how do I know if I'm admired or Liked?

![]() |

I, too, gave up on the new 2e Guide to OP. It's terrible. I'll just ask friend or on the boards for whatever I'm looking for.
As for boons, you can have, I think, up to 3 General/untyped and only 1 of each of the others.

![]() |

Will get a post up tomorrow, just wanted to make sure everyone was ready, and it looks like you all are. :-)

![]() |

Rannarix busies himself laying out a spike snare in the space in front of him, waving Nal around it when she returns.
No problem, the snare trap stays there until you move it, OK.

![]() |

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, Nal reaches the end of her sneak. I placed the avatar at the end of the walk, I meant the narrative to say that.
Rannarix I have the copy of the book you have taken with you on this trip, see the last slide. I have also given you a snare trap token, placed on the map.

Ah yes. The Pathfinder school. Is that man about to eat a raccoon?
'Cause Rannarix totally wants in on some of that.

![]() |

Will give Nal time to post til I get up in the morning.

![]() |

Sorry if I'm slow to post for the rest of this week. There's a lot of good RL stuff going on through Saturday, and it'll keep me pretty busy. Feel free to bot Nal as necessary.

![]() |

Nal, apologies for the he, if it's any consolation I keep doing the same with my female barbarian chef..... she is often a he...
I get caught up in trying to get the actions right and loose sight of other details.

![]() |

Can I attack the filament?
did....
Yes, thats what Nal did ...
Or an Escape action ....

![]() |

With the crab fight, you are up against a single foe, if i forget to add the message to say you are up, then post your actions.

![]() |

Apropos of nothing, I'm looking for players in my online Sunday game.

@GM Deevor: How big are the crates on the ground in the channel? 5' tall? My thought is for Nal to get on top of one of them, jump up from it, and then climb to the top of the channel. That depends on the crate's height, though.

![]() |

Go for it Nal ... I like the idea ...

![]() |

How big is the crate?

![]() |

Sorry, That crate is 5ft....
... I like cinematic action described in the game, so thrill me ...

![]() |

Time to put a target on my back. Nal's wry thought lingers in her mind as she plants a boot against the wall to give herself a boost. The rough, aged wood of the crate drives splinters into her hands as Nal heaves herself up to the top of the crate.
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Turning to face the south wall, she backs up against the far side of the crate, takes a powerful step forward, and leaps upward to catch a handhold halfway up the south wall.
Jump: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
"Uhhgh!" The impact drives the air from her lungs. Gasping for a breath, she begins pulling herself upwards.
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
