Kaako takes a step forward towards the watery creature. He waves his arms and speaks an incantation.

Jadren steps in closer again and cleaves another section of water free from the creature. It gives a roar not unlike the sounds of a flood racing through a canyon.

The sliced off water is then followed up with bolt of freezing energy that freezes a small section of the watery thing.

Lavanna prays even more fervently, but gets distracted by her emotions and need to pray that she forgets to actually recall something useful. Another failure, you can try a third time I believe.

Recall Knowledge:

Nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Kaako sends a bolt of electricity through the water, but it seems he's prefectly grounded, and it just goes right through him without hurting.
Reflex waterman: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32

The waterman then reacts, he shoots two waves at Jadren, hoping to push the man back enough that he can reach the squishier looking targets behind.
Wave vs. Jadren: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22
Wave vs. Jadren, 2nd strike: 1d20 + 17 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 17 - 5 = 19

It roars in defiance as Jadren's armor deflects and neutralizes the bludgeoning strength of the hits. The wave man tries again one last time.
Wave vs. Jadren, 3rd strike: 1d20 + 17 - 10 ⇒ (11) + 17 - 10 = 18
The room vibrates with the giant monster's wrath.

“Thanks Lavanna!“ Jadren shouts over his shoulder, wet hair clinging to his skull but a wide smile on his face. He turns around to the waterman. ”Don’t be angry big fella, we’re almost done here.”

Nope. No botting Kaako. :p

Kaako stays where he is. He's spent many unfortunate times being splashed around by waves -whether falling overboard in a drunken stupor, being shipwrecked, or caught in a riptide trying to swim to shore, to name a few- but being smashed by a giant living column of water is not the same.
With rapier in one hand, he thrusts the other hand outward to throw a bolt of electricity at the watery creature.

Lavanna:

You recognize this as an elite form of a Living Waterfall. It can douse flames and fires in a good radius around it as well as resists getting burnt unless the flames are truly strong. ”A waterfall, huh?” Jadren says and looks puzzled after Lavanna shared her information. His gaze goes up to the ‘head’ of that thing when he tries to see any humanoid reaction or expression. Nothing.

Sorry guys my weekend was busy and Monday has been even busier so far.

Lavanna and Jadren spends some time healing each other. By the end of an approximate half-hour, only Jadren still has a few scratches.

Elsir sits and looks at the shield the former-first mate was using but no one is able to produce a repair kit and the repair has to stay theoretical. It seems like the designer for the pregens decided Jadren's shield should be disposable?

Cawlo gives a yawn over the lovey-dovey actions of Jadren and Lavanna, constantly nudging people to explore the next rooms. After 20 minutes he gives gear grinding huff of a sound and settles down at the newly exposed doorway and 'puffs' out his feathers. The slides and maps have been updated.

The space opens into two branching paths. Sneaking ahead carefully, both rooms prove to be empty, at least at a quick visual search, of enemies and threats. To the north is a room where the walls are lined with wooden racks covered in a heavy layer of dust. Many of the weapons are in good condition while others have rusted to scrap. See newly revealed map on Slide 4

The other room extends further from the hallway and opens into a naturally domal chamber. Four stone pedestals stand before you, arrayed in a semicircle around a small altar. Atop the altar are four stone sculptures. At the far end of the room is what is clearly a door, but with some glowing runes marking it as being macgically locked. Seems the Captain left another puzzle here for you. See the map on Slide 5

Where do you want to go first? You could dig through the weapons for something useful first, or you could try your hands at the puzzle instead.

Lavanna takes one look at the runes on the door and wall and realizes they would take someone above her magical ability a week or three to break their enchantment. Seems there might be something else to the room that would unlock the runes and door. Sorry bit of descriptive license there. There's nothing you can do directly with the door.

Kaako instead takes an interest in the room with all of the weapons. He finds rack upon rack of various spears and swords, all great weapons for fighting on a boat and occasionally in the water. As he looks, Cawlo flies through the room and settles on a statue holding a plaque at the back of the room. The clockwork bird finds a small, well placed beam of sunlight that lights up him and the sign below him. He stares expectantly at the group, clearly waiting for them to come and read the sign.... or fawn over his beautiful brass body.

The Sign:
“Honor the weapons of the fallen dead, those who died in service upon the sea, but let not these tools go unused, for even in death they might help the living.”

Walking through the room, Kaako recognizes a few weapons. There was Garvil's magical wavy spear that the captain made sure to keep after the pirate was killed on a merchant ship. Harrien's extra long enchanted longsword that Renlock put into his cabin after she died from a stray cannonball. Oooh, and there's Yevel's magical rapier that the small goblin used up until he feel from the crow's nest drinking one night, even though the weapon was too big for him. It seems like every weapon here once belonged to some crew member before they died serving Captain Renlock, and from the age of some of them, maybe a captain or two before then too. The tengu does find a club with the name 'Quellin' engraved in the handle and a ol'Parvalin's garrish green and pink gaff.

When Lavanna adds her daggers to the pile, Cawlo flies over from the plaque and picks them up one after the other, giving them both back to the cleric with a shake of his head. Seems she's not supposed to add her weapons in here.

He calls in a sing-song tone to Cawlo.
Ugh. I hated when the Captain would make fun of me by calling out "Pretty Bird!”.
He never did give me a cracker.

This beam of sunlight may have something to do with the puzzle as well, Elsir. We need to look for more clues. There are distinct weapons from our fallen comrades. These might be the ones we need.
Kaako looks around a bit more then looks down the hall to the chamber with the altar.
I think those little statuettes on the altar may have clues to which weapons we need. I'm gonna go have a look.
Kaako crosses into the other room and inspects the stone statues.

The Golden Serpent Maps | Actions: ◆ | ◇ | ↺

Elsir takes some time to identify anything magical and the weapons, but quickly finds only three things in the room that give off an aura, Garvil's spear, Harrien's longsword, and Yevel's rapier, and all three clearly have a fundamental rune for accuracy on them. There are the three weapons that only have a +1, I'll give it to you without rolling.

Elsir, as does everyone else, remembers the three never specified any wishes about what happens with their weapon after death, all of them fearing speaking about their death, not wanting to invoke the curse of the pirate's red flag.

Cawlo basks in Kaako's praise, seeming to enjoy the words that might have once been used to mock the tengu. Before the tengu can leave the room, Cawlo gives him a quizzical look and repeats only part of his normal begging sound clearly intending it as a question, "...wanna present...hm?"

The other room opens into a natural dome in the cavern works, where four statues rest. One is clearly the sun shinning in the sky. Another has been carved to look like a crescent moon. The third is a tablet that has a small constellation of stars carved into it. The fourth resembles a comet racing through the sky.

Four pedestals have been arrayed in a half circle around the altar and are identical save for the fact that each has a shining coin set into its face, starting on the left with copper, followed by silver, gold, and finally platinum.

The altar also has a series of words carved into the face of it talking about the sun, moon, stars, and comet.

The Altar's Text:

To find your way, you must be able to navigate by the sun, the moon, and the stars, praying upon a lucky comet to find your way home.

The sun is mighty in value, worth more and placed before the stars.
The moon, in her pale radiance, can’t be gold or copper.
To spy a comet is worth 100 times what you might get for glancing upon the moon.
The stars come out right before the moon rises.

Kaako, at least at first, can't quite find a use for the weapons in this puzzle.

Jadren has been quietly following the group and looked at the new puzzles and riddles provided in the adjacent rooms. ”Ah, my head.” he says and scratches his forehead. Well look at this, Jadren has a migraine now, too. ”All these riddles, I hope it’s worth it and the captain isn’t just making fools out of us.” Shooting a quick glare at Cawlo to see if the parrot would react to that, he moves into the armory feeling more comfortable here.

Remembering what was written on the map and looking at the magical weapons that survived here, he comes up with a plan. ”Take not their blade or spear…” he mumbles and then turns to the group. ”Hey!” He shouts to get the attention of everyone that might be in the adjacent chamber. ”Yevel’s rapier is not blade nor spear. Maybe it’s the key to get the treasure?” He suggests and then steps closer to the brass statue to investigate if there might be a hole or something else you could pierce the rapier into. Kaako scratches his head and goes deep under his feathers, releasing some little down feathers and bits of dander.
Yeah. I still can't figure out what the weapons are for, but these... these coins. I like shiny coins.
He reads the inscriptions and looks at the coins. He goes back and forth placing coins in spots and switching them, reading the inscriptions, and switching coins again.

Okay. I think I got it...
Gold coin goes with sun.
Silver coin with moon,
Platinum (ooh, pretty coin) goes with comet,
Copper goes with stars.

He steps back to see if anything happens.

Jadren picks up Yeven's rapier but also notices on the way to the statue that there is a club and a gaff mixed into the weapons as well. Getting to the statue it proves to be a very old piece made from young, clumbly sandstone and is barely holding together the outline of a person. There's definitely no place for a rapier to be placed in the statue. Cawlo flits over to the human's shoulder and peers at the rapier curiously before confidently replaying a sound bite of "PRESENT FOR YOU!" and moving with a happy satisfied look.

In the other room, Kaako places the sun on the pillar with a gold coin in the face of it, the moon on the silver, the comet on the platinum and the stars on the copper coined pillar. From the other room you hear a very loud sound of Cawlo suddenly playing a sound of Renlock stating "Wrong!" as a wind starts to whip up in the room, picking up the small statuettes and other debris in the room and swirilling them and Kaako all together in a mess.

Kaako, and anyone else in the room, you need to make a DC 20 Basic Fort save for 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 5) = 20 bludgeoning damage and being knocked prone. Success or better prevents getting knocked prone.

As the small cyclone dies as quickly as it started, the statuettes are once again back on the altar. Cawlo flies in and takes a long look at the other bird before squawking "Order. Order."

Hai-Er Hua

"Sorry Kaako" she apologizes for scolding him earlier when Cawlo delivers her daggers back to her.

In the puzzle room, seeing the Tengu guess what she would have thought was the correct orderings, she pulls out her scroll of Augury, and waves it around. "Lost at sea, remeber that the one that is worth the most always goes last" she recalls in her own mind.

"Mighty Gozreh, dual in your nature, grant us wisdom that we might not see..."

"...If we reverse Kaako's order, what will become of us?"

Augury:

You gain a vague glimpse of the future. During the casting of this spell, ask about the results of a particular course of action. The spell can predict results up to 30 minutes into the future and reveals the GM's best guess among the following outcomes:

Weal The results will be good.
Woe The results will be bad.
Weal and Woe The results will be a mix of good and bad.
Nothing There won't be particularly good or bad results.

The GM rolls a secret DC 6 flat check. On a failure, the result is always “nothing.” This makes it impossible to tell whether a “nothing” result is accurate. If anyone asks about the same topic as the first casting of augury during an additional casting, the GM uses the secret roll result from the first casting. If circumstances change, though, it's possible to get a different result.

Elsir looks over into the statue room as he hears the winds whip up "Still too impatient to finish one before starting the next I see Kaalo." He turns to Jadren "Maybe the riddle about blade and spear to take the treasure is more about we need something like a club or a gaff to defeat the guardian vs a sharp edge or tip." He shrugs, knowing weapons aren't his strong suit.

He moves into the statue room and reads through the clues. "I think you're right about which coins go in which statues Kaako, but I think the order is important, read the words more carefully."

To find your way, you must be able to navigate by the sun, the moon, and the stars, praying upon a lucky comet to find your way home.

A violent wind blows over Lavanna as her god sends message of woe... the scroll is consumed as if advancing 100 years under salt water, shriveling in her hands, it's ink smudging into unreadability...

"Lost at sea, remeber that the one that is worth the most always goes last" she whispers to herself as she hears Elsir's proposal "I think you've got it!"

She watches as he places the Sun, then the Stars, then the Moon, then the Comet, and braces for impact!

"Are you alright over there?" Jadren yells as he hears the commotion in the other room. A quick glance through the archway and he assures himself that they are alright.

Let them figure this out. I'll try my luck here.

Having seen the gaff and the club on his way to the statue, Jadren decides to pick up every weapon in the armory that isn't a bladed weapon or a spear.

With his arms filled he looks around to find Cawlo. "Huh?" He grunts in a questioning fashion, to see if he's on the right track.

Given that the save was a Basic save and everyone got 10 above the DC, no one actually took damage from the failed attempt.

Then the cyclone rages in the room, both Kaako and Lavanna prove to being quick enough to drop to the ground and below the bellowing winds that fill the room, leaving them both unscathed.

Jadren tries picking up the gaff and club, those proving to be the only none sword or spear weapon in the room and heads for the door. In the room with the statues and pillars, Cawlo suddenly lights up with an arcane purple glow that rockets up from his talons to his eyes where it stays for a moment as he screeches, "DON'T BE GREEDY!" The same purple light surrounds one of the weapons in Jadren's hands as it disappears and reappears on the rack in the room again.

Elsir decides to give up on the weapons and the riddle behind them and instead turns his knowledge towards the riddle of the room, quickly parsing where the statues belong and more importantly, the most likely order they go in. Lavanna agrees that he must be right and quickly places each one on their respective pillar in order. After the last one is placed, the room goes quiet.

Each statue slowly floats into the air as the walls of the cave are replaced with a late afternoon sky as seen from a boat at sea. The sun rapidly descends to the sea, with the sky blazing the multihues of the sunset, before slowly dimming as stars start to twinkle in the sky. By the time the sun has fully set the moon rises from the opposite direction softl glowing in the illusion. Finally a comet streaks across the sky, lighting it up and landing right were the rune-locked door had been moments before. The illusion then fades as the room returns, sans the previous door.
I've moved you around the pillars but feel free to rearrange yourselves as you want.

Cawlo flits up to the door way and finds a root growing out of the wall perching on it and waits to see what the party does.

“Alright alright!“ Jadren responds to Cawlo and only takes the gaff before he joins the others in the next chamber.

He appears in time to watch Elsir and Lavanna solve the riddle and trigger the illusion. ”Quiet the show.” He says. ”Back in Oppara me and the boys went hunting for some sky metal once as well.” He hints at yet another anecdote about his youth.

Pointing the gaff towards the now open pathway into the next room, he turns to his crewmates. ”You don’t mind me waltzing right in, do you?” He waits a second for any objections, before he would continue to enter the next chamber.

After getting whipped about by the cyclone, Kaako wanders into the armory.
What's that Cawlo? "Wanna a present" you say? Sure, I'll take a present.
He takes the club with the name "Quellin" on it as it suddenly reappears after being in Jadren's arms, then heads back to the other room while the others finish the puzzle in the proper order.

As soon as he steps back into the puzzle room, Kaako watches the door slide open in front of the group as the door behind them seals itself shut.

After the others prepare to enter, Kaako is last to go in, hiding in the shadows as he moves slowly.

Jadren strides confidently into the room as Elsir takes a moment to vanish from sight and then follows... or at least that's what you think he did. Kaakko, a club hanging from his belt, lets Lavanna go ahead of him, but clearly is intending on sneaking into the shadows.

Cawlo watches everyone pass him, approximating where he thinks Elsir has passed him, before peering into the room. He clearly starts shivering some as he gazes around the rolling ocean painted on the walls of this chamber in faded blues and pale white. Opposite the entrance is a raised platform, with an enormous stone throne set against the far wall.

An equally large skeleton sits on the throne, clad in the raiment of a pirate—complete with a patch over one of its empty eye sockets. On his head is a comically small crown. The voice of your former captain calls out from the darkness. “My old friends. You have come so far, and the end is just over the horizon. I hope you will face this final test together and learn, as I have, that you can only step into the future by overcoming your past.”
As the voice fades, the giant skeleton suddenly stirs, standing up and drawing a massive hook. With a nightmarish clatter, the skeleton stumbles forward to attack as Cawlo screeches in fear!

Just as I suspected, an oversized monstrosity. Let's buff up our bundle of full plate.

Elsir draws out a scroll, but instead of casting it, instead casts a spell of his own, speeding up the movements of Jadren. "Swing that sword of yours with great haste so we can collect the captain's treasure."

Cast haste on Jadren, 1 minute duration. Draw a scroll of blur but unfortunately it has a range of touch and 2 action cast, a pity.

Haste: Magic empowers the target to act faster. It gains the quickened condition and can use the extra action each round only for Strike and Stride actions.
