Given that Drow have he same lifespan as elves, would it be appropriate fr them to qualify for the breadth of experience feat?

@TheWaskally: Might be interesting to see if you can find info on the 'Stilyagi' or 'Culture Crows'. They are young Jadwiga who are upset/bored with Jadwiga society and instead choose to emulate other cultures in style and behaviour. Their references are outdated though, so they emulate how things were in the past.
They are based on a real movement of the same name that existed mid 20th century in the USSR.

Yes a Drow is an Elf. ;)

Drow are elves that have been left in the oven for too long. But instead of getting charred, they get homicidal.

Should probably get that oven looked at... and also not be putting elves in it to begin with.

I am wondering how to play a CN Drow. I'm not seeing mine as omnicidal but he's definitely kind of like Phoebe from Friends, the way that she was a bubbly effervescent cloud cuckoolander but would suddenly reference a dark traumatic past in the most cheerful way possible.

Elves: Not terribly good to cook. Unless you're a witch with the cook people hex, I guess.

This is Dorian Grey's submission.

I just gave a taste for his Backstory; but, I shall include more this week. I just wanted to get on the board...lol!

I really enjoy Winter Themed Campaigns; and this seems like a good opportunity to try out the Hunter class.

Any questions, concerns are welcomed!

EDIT: I may go this route.

My 1/2 Orc isn't monosyllabic. He'd never say, "Harusk make Druid."

LOL

Annnnnd I'm not making it into the game now, right? :P

Ok now that Dorian Grey found the recruitment I have to get off my keister and write a decent submission.

And you very clearly need a straight man.

Happy with the submissions here! My paladin seems simple, but I really like this as an opportunity to play a sarenite in the cold!

It would be so nice. I mean, how hard is it out here for a drow to find a respectable adventuring party that understands not all of us are murdering idiots?

GMMichael, here is my submission for the Reign of Winter campaign, Basile (Ba-Seel) "The Bloodcoat" Borkoski, a jadwiga human magus (hexcrafter). I'm willing to change the name, because I haven't found in what paizo product lists the name of the former ruling jadwiga families in Irrisen. Like I posted, I've had a desire to play a jadwiga for about a month or so. Please critique and ask questions if you have any.

Basile's inspiration

Basile would be in Heldren on his way out of Irrisen. But talk of a fellow noble kidnapped by wintry foes sounds like Basile's cup of poisoned tea.

I present Hjorleaf Asvidrson
Human (Ulfen)
Fighter

Character's Voice:

Having singed on to escort a merchant group from the Icestair all the way to Katheer was a long and profitable journey. The merchant captain had high hopes of bring the furs of the Mammoth Lords along with exotic items from far away Tian Xia to the cities of the Inner Sea. A most bold and crazy endeavor that would see the spices of Qadira come to the north men of the cold climates. The ship did well on its way through the Innersea and all went profitable and well...that was until they made port at Golsifar. Having shore leave always brought a smile to the large man's face along with a lightening of his coin purse. His drinking and the strong military presence sometimes led to a misunderstanding. After a night in jail, Hjorleaf returned to port to see his ship sailing away. He was not sure what to do or even where he was. Bound and determine to get home, the north man did what he did best he escorted merchants to their preferred destination. This time it was just a single man that was returning home now that his time in the imperial navy was at an end. The overland travels to Heldren was quiet and uninspiring, that was until they notice the snow. It was odd but it did bring a sense of home. Once in Helfren Hjorleaf made his way to a tavern to relax and enjoy a drink or four. He ordered and walked to a table by himself. He sat on the floor next to the table as was his way. The chairs were too brittle for his frame and often made one soft and too relaxed when the time for action was needed. The men of the north desired no such comforts; instead wish to feel the earth beneath their bones as true warriors. His meal arrived and he paid with silver coins and went about his business. While he ate, men and women came and went as the day went on. Often times a look was given to him but for the most part he was left alone. Alone that is until several human came into the tavern, locals by the look of them. As they past by one of them whispered something to another of the men. They laughed, kept walking a few steps until another one turned around and looked at Hjorleaf. Hey Dwarf, when did you get into town. The jest was in a tone the made it clear the were trying to be funny and not confrontational.
Hjorleaf just stared at the men, his eyes roaming over them. He watched them for a good amount of time, wondering when they would react to his stare. He did not have to wonder long. The speaker stepped closer to the table and asked Do you not speak Taldane? The room got real quiet and Hjorleaf continued to stare. The local man shoke his head and muttered to himself. more dwarves...great

His voice is strong and its tone casts no misunderstand that he is not happy.
Jeg er ikke en dverg.
I am not a dwarf in Skald.

The "dwarf" stood up from his seat at the table but it was not a dwarf nor was he sitting in a chair at the table. His full frame stood taller than any other person in the room. Looking down at the locals, Hjorleaf laughs loudly and deeply.
The Taldane language comes to his lips quickly, having used it often on his ill fated merchant escort duty.
It is an easy mistake...I am sure.
He looks past the men to a poster on the tavern wall.
Perhaps you can tell me about this unusual snowfall...

Snow falls...how is that unusual? Even in summer it snows...

AL right, so my Ranger, because I realize I gave you just an idea with little information.

Tessira Ll'fedaere (Name subject to change if me and Sha'ir do the sibling thing)

Drow Ranger

Tessira would be following her sibling (if that goes through), or generally she would just be traveling, trying to clean up the roads between towns in an effort to not only prove not all Drow are evil, but that they can be helpful if approached. She pursues this out of a duty to her homeland of Taldor, for there was noble ideas in the land once, where good deeds meant more than gold. Perhaps in helping those who are downtrodden and preventing the preying upon the weak, will she finally figure out what her place in the world is.

Gurog ‘the bastard’ N’doye
Half-Elf
Occultist

Character Voice:

Why is Gurog in Heldrin
The half-elf’s voice is rough as he replies ”How did I come to be in Heldrin? Heh, what’s the difference between luck and fate? The world turns as it will. I was travelling south to Kadeer in Qadira, following the coast down – Kozan, Merciful Bay, Golsifar; some folks would say take a ship, but I don’t like the sea, it seems hungry to me…The bay of the Jalrune river brought me west to the Border Wood and Heldren. I wouldn’t have stopped – but I wasn’t planning on heavy snow. No one sane would, not in Taldor in high summer! So I sought shelter in Heldren.”

How Gurog was ‘asked’ to help
Gurog sat on the bench in the tavern, sipping hot tea, it being too cold for ale. The townfolks’ discussion was frantic – this unnatural weather and bandits – and other things – daring to attack a noblewoman with escorts in Taldor. He thought to himself, if there’s a search party, I might do well to join it. I’m not getting to Kadeer in time to meet Javale and his caravan, and that’s my chance to see the Impossible Kingdom burned. While I find another legend to chase I need to keep body and soul together. I’ve rented my blade before, and rescuing a noblewoman sounds like a job that might well pay. Also, this weather is strange enough to make me curious…but I do not fear it, I have seen cold like this before, in my youth, up in the River Kingdoms. Decision made, he stood and made his way nearer the fire, where the village elders were trying to organize a search party, no doubt they could use an experienced fighter, he would not need to mention his other talents..

Pffft. Any halfling chef worth the name can cook anything and make it delicious with the right spices. You could live off charred elf from here to judgement day if you had enough rosemary :)

@GMMicheal:: I have the background and "voice" for my URogue Eldritch Scoundrel in this alias. From your first post, it looks like that was all you were wanting, is that right? Or do you need the crunch as well?

Why are you in Heldrin?
At first, the white-haired northern appears angry you had the gall to ask him a question. But he recovers, and thinks about his response.

Just noticed this, and would like to present.

This character got as far as the 1st encounter in one game that died out. I Will adapt him to your specifications.

Reason that he is in town, is
Having left as a caravan guard in a town to the south, he wandered on his own until a cold front moved in.
Due to the weather, he was travelling to the nearest town when he found the remains of an attack on several people.
He headed into the nearest town to advise the local authorities about the attack.

Sovereign Court

Interesting. Just saw this too.

Here's my take.

if allowed. Winterborn Changeling Paladin of Shelyn:

Heldern huh?
Maybe things might be different here. I just want to be accepted like one of you. I'm not any different too. I Have dreams and aspirations too. What's wrong with Beauty and what's wrong with white hair? I don't want to die being called a witch when I've being healing you. It's not fair.
Why are they looking at me like that. Is it because they don't like white hair too? Or heavens forbid! Is my armor ugly?
I'm just here to help. Why won't they believe me? Oh Shelyn Guide me!

only 26 hours before I make my decision. ive been going over submissions today getting a pretty good grasp on them. If you havnet sent it in...do so.

Finished writing sample for Michaela “Mike” Dornslagdam:

A dwarf wearing the tan and silver vestments of Cayden Cailean enters the bar. She wears a warhammer at her hip and strokes her braided beard thoughtfully. Long locks of dark golden hair drape off of her head and nearly touch the floor. When a nearby roustabout petitions her with a drunken drawl she simply offers while raising her hand, ”May you find wisdom in the bottom of a cup.” She cringes slightly when the man spills his drink on her, not because of the stain, which is easily fixed with a minor miracle, but because of the wasted drink.

Mike had come to Heldren on a meandering path through the now rime coated Borderwoods and seen for herself the strange weather. She asked Cayden’s oracle, the barkeep, ”Alright you. What’s going on in this town? Clearly you need help.” Her tone was short and to the point, some might even say rude but she got a lead at least. ”Fine. I’ll go talk to this mercenary and see what he knows.”

She hadn’t chosen to wander into Heldren per se but was drawn to it for some reason. Exiting the tavern she beseeched her deity, ”What have you got me into now?”

I will be sure to adapt the crunch to your requirements if I'm selected, but it won't change a whole lot from what I've presented in my prior post.

I have this one that I would like to enter.

Why he is in Heldrin:

A deep rumbling tone "Ye want me to tell you why I have come to this town? Buy me a meal and a drink first if ye want that tale."
After taking a sip from his free drink, waiting on the food.
" I started life at a young age not knowing if the meal that I was eating would be my last. I grew up with out a family, for they past to the other side when I was young. One day, I was starving and with one of me feet in the grave already. A man took me in, he raised me as his own. He became my new family. He taught me many skills, how to track, find animals, use a sword and a bow. But one night he was taken from me. And now I am hunting those that did the taking. It has been sometime but I have found signs that have lead me to this area, that is why I am here."
And starts to eat and drink with not saying another word.

I decided to go with the Human Fighter, though I'm ditching the Siegebreaker archetype and instead am looking at a tower shield build, though I'm flexible there.

Name Deneth Holslager
Race Human, Taldan (and a bit of Stone Giant 12 to 15 generations ago)
Class Fighter
Just a note on his voice, Deneth is 19 so he's very much prone to adolescent or even pubescent stupidity. It's also mostly an internal monologue.

Deneth's voice:
Oh Xanthippe Euphram. He could watch her work in the smithy all day! He didn't, because that would be creepy, but he could. Sadly it looked like she never even noticed him, and why would she? She was always had plenty of suitors, some local, some from the next town over like he himself and still others from even further away. All vied for her attention, her affection, but none got it, not really. That was good though, it meant there was still a chance!

Still, it didn't seem to matter. He got close to her once, standing back to back during a bar brawl. He had hoped to impress her then but she was too busy throwing punches to notice how he lifted a guy, another suitor, much older than him off the ground and had thrown him across the room. If only he had another chance like that...

Deneth's daydreaming was rudely interrupted a wounded soldier stumbling into town. He instantly rushed over to help support the man while others rushed to get aid. Then the soldier, or a bodyguard actually, told his story.

Finally! This is my chance to prove once and for all that I'm worthy of her affection. All I have to do is find some silly noble woman, how hard can it be?

Presenting Juliet D'Artangen, bastard daughter of a Mivon diplomat, aspiring to be a respected opera singer and member of Taldor's bearded class. She got in a little over head, having some fun at the expense of some local Oppara noblemen, and has left town to hole up in Heldrin with her estranged mother, who she hasn't seen in over a decade.

Name: Juliet D'Artangen,
Race and ethnicity: Brevic and Taldan human,
Class and archtype: Cavalier (daring champion)

She'll be decent direct damage, but I plan to focus on using tactician and similar feats/abilities to function as kind of a martial buffer/controller.

Heldrin and the call:

Heldrin.

Juliet shifted under the weight of her pack, frowning. She could feel a knot in her back already, just one mile removed from the caravan, which had continued east. She had split with the caravan and headed towards Heldrin, along with one talkative itinerant priest. The priest – a Desnan, specifically – was to visit the town, see if anyone needed any services, and then move on in a few days, as his clergy were wont to do. Juliet turned her head and rolled her eyes as he talked about the beauty of the road, the simple pleasures of wandering, yada yada yada.

Sweat rolled down Juliet’s temple, a fly buzzed her ear. Annoyed, Juliet rubbed her sleeve along her forehead, looking around. Trees, all around, the priest now talking about they’ve got miles to go still. Gods. Heldrin.

Blinking, Juliet realized the priest was lobbing a question at her. ”Me? No, I’ve never been to Heldrin, exactly. My ma lives there.”

”What? No, I’ve not seen here in… more than a decade, yeah? We’re ah, estranged, I guess, doesn’t know I’m coming.”

“Yeah. Yeah.”

“No, it’ll be a shock, for sure. I wasn’t thinking...” Juliet’s father’s voice, rife with disapproval, runs through her mind. Thhhhiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnkkkk, he’d say (and said). And he was right. Stupidity is not the equal of bravery, Juliet mouths, repeating one of her mantras. It was one she often needed to hear.

"No, I got myself in some trouble, yeah? Too much fun at the expense of the bearded, chinny? Even dad – he’s kind of a big deal – thought it best if I get out of Oppara for a bit." She waved her hand through the air. "So I’m here, on the road with you, yeah? Anyways I—"

Juliet’s blade, Spite, was in her hand quicker than the singer’s mind could register what was happening – a huffing man, red-faced and eyes bulging in terror, barely aware of Juliet and the priest – barreling right towards them. ”Oi!” Juliet exclaimed, just in time to be barreled down by the man – a guard from the looks of him. Juliet hit the dirt road with a crunch and her breath left her. Turning, she grabbed the guard and flipped him to the ground. Sitting up, she gasped, ”OI! What the hades, man!?!”

A bodyguard, it turns out, terrified and out of his mind, running from creatures in the woods. Cold and snow, a noblewoman lost, captured. Juliet casts a glance towards the woods, thinking of going after the noble. The freedom of others is as important as one’s own she mouths, repeating another of her mantras. Stupidity is not the equal of bravery, she replies, immediately nixing the idea of going into the woods on her own. They’d get to Heldrin, find the locals – there’s gotta be some farmboys yearning for adventure – and then come back, pitchforks in hand. The noblewoman would be free, they’d be heroes, and she could spend her new fame at the local pub, which no doubt was shabby around the edges, but charming in her own way. Her ma would be proud.

Dueling blades, dueling words:

The repercussions would rebound across Juliet’s world, like thunder echoing off tall buildings. But that night, it was all pure pleasure. Juliet smiled and gave a quick bow to the assembled onlookers, paying no attention to the three noblemen, writhing in pain on the ground from multiple little scratches, thumps and stabs, courtesy of Juliet’s dueling blade, Spite.

The three separate duels and three subsequently beaten fools had taken a toll on Juliet’s disguise – her hair tumbled loose from the tight bun she had tied it in, curly auburn locks hanging from her hat; her masquerade mask hung askew, and one of her disguise’s horsehair muttonchops was gone to the gods know where.

Sure, Juliet had dressed as a young nobleman and snuck into the King’s masquerade ball. Sure, she had snogged several eligible young ladies, much to the chagrin of their suitors. Yes, she had soundly thumped three of those suitors in back-to-back-to-back duels, leaving the young men bloodied, and perhaps more importantly to those young men, shamed. Absolutely, Juliet realized that she had to get out of there quick, but she couldn't resist herself from one last insult to the assembled nobles, either.

Stepping forward, Juliet waved her falcata in the air, smiling as the crowd gasped and collectively stepped backwards. Pulling her blade in tight behind her, the young woman gave her best impersonation of a noble’s curtsy, and then, clearing her throat, the duelist offered the crowd an off-the-cuff verse in her lilting soprano voice.

Three suitors lie in the gutter,
Left alive by my good graces,
Bruised pride longer lasting than the
Bumps, bruises and cuts to their faces!

With another quick curtsy, Juliet was on her way. The young noblemen wouldn’t find Juliet for two months.

But when they did… Juliet was jumped leaving her job at Contini’s Theater, and the noblemen didn’t give the singer a chance to draw the stiletto hidden in her boot. Fists and saps rained down on the Juliet, relentless, and the girl awoke minutes later, battered and bruised, her hair cruelly chopped off and left in a pile next to her. Rolling on her back, Juliet stared at the sky peaking through the alleyway and raised a hand to her burst lip. Best get out of Oppara, chinney? Time to visit Ma in Heldren.

Background concepts:

1. Bastard: Juliet is the bastard daughter of a consulate to Taldor from Mivon and a Taldan housekeeper named Alma. You wouldn't know it from her name though - Juliet D'Artangen is a stage name. Juliet's real name is Petra Occelio. Her father's last name is Tansiel.

2. Duelist: Juliet is a student of the art of dueling. She was given a rare gift from her father after besting her older half-brothers in subsequent duels one glorious afternoon - his fencing blade (a falcata, from ISWG). Every great weapon needs a name, and Juliet has named her fencing blade Spite. Like most Taldans, the only thing Juliet loves more than duels is the opera.

3. Singer: Juliet is an opera singer of some repute. Not by any means famous, in the last year or so Juliet has gained some notoriety as the headliner at a second-tier Opera House. She's a got a fine voice and is a competent actress.

4. Family: Juliet’s mother left for her hometown when Juliet was twelve. Before leaving, Juliet left her with her father, Lord Artud Tansiel, a wealthy consulate with exotic tastes who has sired many children, quite a few of them bastards. Juliet's father brought the child into his home, much to the dismay of Juliet's stepmother, Aurelia Tansiel. In general, Juliet's relationship with her father runs hot and cold; he’s proud of her dueling prowess and spirited nature, but her independence, partying, religion (dear gods, Cayden!), and general lack of respect for authority runs against the elder Tansiel’s conservative nature. Juliet’s relationship with her step-mother and most of her half-siblings runs from non-acknowledgment to hostility.

5. Privilege: Juliet did not want for much in her new home. Afforded a good education with little supervision, the girl led a latchkey lifestyle, coming and going (and getting into trouble) as she pleased. Her father's money and reputation afforded her protection and the means to chase her interests - as such, Juliet is educated, somewhat self-absorbed, and a bit of a dilettante.

6. Caydenite, Northerner: Juliet has taken Cayden Calean’s teachings to heart, and as a child of two cultures, has studied her father’s culture religiously (especially the River Freedoms). She loves wine and cool weather, and has a great appreciation for Brevic poetry. Juliet has devised - and lives by - the following code:

My life is my path, and none will sway me from it.
I devote myself to the pursuit of my passions.
The freedom of others is as important as one’s own.
Oaths are worth dying for.
Stupidity is not the equal of bravery.

As much as I want to stay in the running, reviewing my schedule and the number of games I'm currently playing in, and I'd hate to give this less than my full attention.

So yes, I'm going to make a mature decision and step aside on this one, before it gets up and going, so I don't screw up any momentum. I'll console myself by knowing I'm already in one of Dread's games, and enjoying it a great deal.

Have fun, people. GM Michael is a GREAT game runner. You're gonna' have a blast!

p.s. This means nobody is submitting a Druid, folks. If you have the inclination, jump on it!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This looks like an interesting selection - I don't envy you your choice, GM Michael.

Gonna have to drop after all - congrats to all that are chosen when it is announced.

I haven’t run this campaign and I haven’t really read anything about it so I’m applying blind.

Do we get to pick +1 to HP or +1 to Skills?

Character Background:

Tegan is a product of her upbringing. She’s a bit reserved, always professional, and carries an air of gracefulness about her. Tegan would be “passing” in noble company, but she isn’t of noble blood.

Historically, magic hasn’t been guaranteed in Tegan’s family bloodline. When Tegan’s mother, Efa, discovered Tegan had an aptitude; Tegan was schooled rigorously. Her mother, skilled in Transmutation, nurtured her daughter’s gift personally but understood books will only get you so far. She’s been sending Tegan out on deliveries for the past couple of years hoping that her daughter will find a practical application for her talents.

Tegan may be too obliging at times and loves her mother and aunt too much to do anything other than try to please them. However, her willingness to learn and produce results makes her the ideal apprentice.

Character Voice:

Tegan pulls back from her aunt Elin’s embrace and produces a tidy bundle of scrolls. “I saw your arugula out front. It’s nearly frozen.” Tegan’s own traveling cloak was a testament to the unusual weather. The folds of fabric cradled a few stowaway ice crystals that had yet to melt.

“I’m not sure what’s going on. But thank the gods my sister is a wizard!” The older woman tugs at the ribbon, unfurling one of the scrolls to examine it. “With these, I should be able to accelerate and jar what’s left of my garden. But, it’s far too soon… Come. Sit. I’ll fill you in with what’s happened. My sister told me you were looking for an opportunity to explore your magic potential. I think this might just be the call to adventure you were looking for.”

Tegan lifts the hood of her velvet traveling cloak and delicately tugs off her gloves. “The cart driver said an injured mercenary arrived yesterday, but it wasn’t a normal bandit attack?”

The older woman nods. “I’ve been too frazzled with my premature crop to listen to much gossip, but Old Mother Theodora claims dark times lie ahead and I trust her. Gods know recent events seem to point in that direction.”

Little bit late for me to be changing things... Nor do I think that GMMichael would appreciate a double submission much.

I have been assuming the assorted alternate racial FCB's are in play?

Good luck all. I've enjoyed reading everyone's submissions.

yes you could alternate FCB.

Rats I guess I've run out of time, work has been crazy this week. I might try and put in a cheeky last minute submission but no worries if it's too late.
