When using detect magic or identify to learn the properties of magic items, you can only attempt to ascertain the properties of an individual item once per day. Additional attempts reveal the same results.
The first ring you look at (the one that is a simple gold band), you identify as a Greater Ring of Acid Resistance.
As for the second one...You take a close look at it, and can feel an aura of strong conjuration. As you turn it and rub against it, trying to identify it, the ring itself changes. Soon, it appears as an intricately carved silver ring, with a number of small, clear gems encrusting it. The ring is mounted with what might be the biggest diamond you have seen in a long while, if ever.
You then hear a stong, feminine voice call out from the ring The voice is loud enough to shake the floor beneath you.
you can almost hear the eyes rolling on this, "the djinn of the ring."
Death looks at you in an appraising manner, before speaking. "I recognize an attempt to pull information when I see it. I beleive that I have some of the information that you seek, but I would like to ask for a service or payment in return."
"Why, of course I'm asking for information. As the local man of wisdom -- or goblin of wisdom if you prefer -- your information is doubtless of great value and I would be most happy to negotiate appropriate payment for it. What are you, err, looking for?"
Macavity repeats and politely asks Elen to brew some tea.
Elen casts Unseen Servant and sends the invisible force to brew the tea, making sure to give explicit instructions so that it will not use the sleep-inducing tea. She also will go ahead and cast Comprehend Languages while Ruul is studying the rings, so that she can read the Giant list. (Hopefully a list in Giant and not a giant list!)

"New friend, Ruul? I guess it's a good thing I found that ring in the secret compartment of that box, huh?" Macavity suggestively asks while sipping his freshly served tea.
"Do you cast healing spells?"
"I do, although I cast spells that have other useful effects, or harm foes, far more often."

"Well met Nefeshti", Ruul calls out in his rich profundo.
"Djinn? I'm afraid I am not familiar with your kind."
You hear a loud sigh emanating from the ring. "Djinn are denizens of the Elemental Planes. Normally, we do not interact with your kind, and by 'your kind,' I mean people in the Prime Materials. When we do, we typically find ourselves in a servile position. It is not that we mind, it is that we see your kind doing the same things over and over again. I personally have been on this plane, in this ring, for over 6000 revolutions. I hope that my new master can provide some kind of challenge."
"You're enslaved to whoever holds this ring? How terrible! Is there any way we can free you?"
Kallistiel raises an eyebrow at Elen's line of questioning. "It's likely up to the master of the ring to decide upon something like that, if it is even possible."
Turning towards the ring, "You mention some kind of challenge? Do you mean something to alleviate your boredom? I can't speak to that as I am often bored, but your point of view differs from my own. I expect things to be challenging in the future, however, and your new 'master' will likely be in the thick of it."

"Why would I want to be free, little witch? You mortals never understand the long term to anything. I could talk until my face was red about how we are all slaves to something, but I can tell by the look on your face that you think that I was forced into slavery or something."
Kallistiel raises an eyebrow at Elen's line of questioning. "It's likely up to the master of the ring to decide upon something like that, if it is even possible."
Turning towards the ring, "You mention some kind of challenge? Do you mean something to alleviate your boredom? I can't speak to that as I am often bored, but your point of view differs from my own. I expect things to be challenging in the future, however, and your new 'master' will likely be in the thick of it."
"Well, young warrior, boredom is part of it. I have been locked in that compartment for many years now." There's a moment's pause. "Let's just say that I have a purpose in life, and leave it at that for the time being."
"What sorts of challenge were you looking for?" Ruul follows up.
"What do you do....?"
"Well, I'm a djinn! I'm sure that you've heard of the old stories...although, now that I think of it, they are pretty old. You summon me, and I do your bidding, at least, for a short while, anyway. And I can grant some magic to you...There's things that I can do, but I can't remember them all at the moment. I'm still getting over the shock of having furry paws rubbing me all over."
A moment of running those paws over what he'd imagined her naked form looked like ran through the bull's thoughts, only to be dismissed a moment later with a snort.
"Another ally is always welcome. We have other allies, I will introduce you to them in a few days when they return. How do I summon you?"
Ruul knew he could deduce the common word with a little practice but figured it would be more polite to ask.
You can almost hear the sly grin in her voice, as Nefeshti says, "You only need to think about it, master..." With that, something materializes in front of you. Her head brushes the ceiling with her hair as she looks down at you. Nefeshti is a couple of feet taller than you, humanoid in appearance, except that, from the waist down, where the legs should be, there is nothing but cloud. From the waist up, she is wearing a chain shirt, and there appears to be a scimitar sheathed at he side. She is wearing nothing else.
"What do you need, master?" You can now see the grin, it seems as big as your head.
The female djinn nods her ascent, then looks to you expectantly.
Elen blushes noticeably as the Djinn appears, and murmurs, "As long as you aren't being held in service against your will, I don't have any objections."
She thinks hard about the stories she may have heard about Djinn in service to mortals.
"Have you ever been to city of Tsar?" Macavity asks the djinn.
Taking a moment to think about it, Nefeshti replies "No, I am afraid not. The last time I was with a master, we set out on a crusade to take out a cult that worshipped Orcus. In battle, I thought I heard the name Tsar being mentioned, but my master died soon after that."
Elen blushes noticeably as the Djinn appears, and murmurs, "As long as you aren't being held in service against your will, I don't have any objections."
She thinks hard about the stories she may have heard about Djinn in service to mortals.
As to the legends themselves, the most well known ones state that a djinn who serves a master must grant the master three wishes.
"Ooh, can you tell us of your former master, the one who was fighting against Orcus? That's not a wish, mind you, just a request."

"Umm..." Elen stutters a bit and looks at her friends for help. She didn't expect her inquiry to be questioned.
"I can't speak for Elen's motives... perhaps she does desire to compare herself to this crusading former master of yours... but as we plan to investigate Tsar further, the fact that it was mentioned, even so long ago and in passing, makes any information surrounding the time it was referenced, quite pertinent to our quest."
Macavity enjoys his tea removing the taste of Mama Grim's beverage and wonders about all things that the djinn could do for him.
"We are scholars of a sort. That's what brought us here. We wish to learn about those that came before us and the challenges they encountered in their efforts to enter Tsar."
"I do not know the information that you seek, I am afraid. I have not had a master in several centuries. My last master was a paladin, and she had been asked by a sect of druids to rid the area of a number of Orcus-worshipping cultists that were drawing to the area. She fought them, necromancers all. Before the battle had waged for more than a few seconds, she took an arrow in the knee and the shoulder, and then, right after, her brains were bashed in on the swing of a greatclub. She was one of the first to fall. I had just been summoned, but as she died so quickly following, I was pulled back into the ring before I could do any harm." Nefeshti looks around, giving Kalistiel an amusing glance.
Elen whispers what she knows about Djinni to Ruul quietly, including the three wishes part. "I'm not sure if we each get three wishes, or we as a whole get three wishes. On the other hand, she might not even grant wishes. But we should probably ask."
"Well, I assure you, that you're new master will not go down so easily..." Kallistiel says before continuing with a small chuckle, "Well, perhaps for you, or any female for that matter... But the opportunity for such things may have passed as I hear someone has his heart. A pity for you, I'm sure, if you're into such things," she finishes with a dismissive wave of her hand.
Macavity continues to drink his tea and slips the ring of greater acid resistance into his pocket for safe keeping. Everyone seems to have forgotten about it.

Yes, you are correct in that I can grant wishes, but unlike my brethren, I am not compelled to do so. So no riches for you, dear."
"Umm...eww! It would figure that I would be stuck with some kind of sexual deviant, and his equally deviant friends. Does it look like I could have sex with something like..." Pointing to Rull, she says "...that? No offence, master."
"Testify, sister. Welcome to the club," Kallistiel mutters.

Kallistiel perks up in interest on this side of the conversation. "I'm certain that you will be quite helpful in our future endeavours. The fact that you can grant wishes, however, is good enough for me. The rest is just semantics."
"I do not typically take nourishment, but I can, so long as you realize that I can only remain outside the ring for a short amount of time each day."
Ally decides to make herself known, now that the being in the ring is not one of her race's traditional enemies.
"I am Alliriyallin, and I would know more of you. Like you, I am bound to this plane, though for other reasons and purposes. Would you serve Ruul willingly? What tasks would you be capable and consenting to perform? Could you, for example, repair or remodel a building?"
