Omari the Landless |

"I am not a fool, so I do not trust the proteans, however I also mislike your 'negotiating' tactics here Sultan. We came here to meet with you, not to fight you. I am not so impressed with your threat; you gain nothing by forcing a fight with us here except dead and wounded. Nor would it serve your interests, forcing us to fight for the Proteans. You should ask your warriors to stand down so we can continue our discussions."

Foxy Quickpaw |

"You misjudge the situation. The proteans are more of a potential threat. And you are a convenient way to get rid of them. Without you they would never dare to come at me. The last time they tried, I imprisoned one of them and the rest fled. If I wipe you out, I just return to the stalemate we had before. But you have to lose a lot more than I have."
"And even more to win once you choose the right side."

Omari the Landless |

"I think we need to agree to disagree on how well forcing a battle here would end for you, especially on what you have to lose... Your last comment though, 'even more to win' - perhaps you should expand: what more do we have to win? Access to the Earth Seed and your assistance in using it is a given."

Foxy Quickpaw |

"You want out of Kakishon - why ever you would choose that. That is what you can win. But I than seems to be not enough of an incentive for you. So what do you want? Gold? Is that what the proteans offer you? You can keep everything you find when you kill them. So you have that too. I don't see what else you could want."

Ohrmizd |

Ohrmizd frowns and frowns and frowns again until he can not keep his mouth shut "Give us something to help us kill Jahvul and his troops, that is our ultimate goal and we will go over whatever difficulties are put in our path."
" Weapons, magic, information, I am sure you are quite capable on this "

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"My friend has hit on something that you can give us at no cost to yourself; as the saying goes, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'. Before you broke with Javhul, you were his ally during the Genie wars. Now his enemy, you can surely tell us much about Javhul, his army, and the history of the Genie wars. For example, we have
been told that Javhul plans to reincarnate himself as the great beast Xotani the Firebleeder. Can you confirm this is his plan? Can you tell us where the corpse of the Firebleeder is to be found? Presumably that is where we will find Javhul now he has escaped Kakishon. What do you know about the powers of the Firebleeder? And no doubt there are many other useful details in your immortal recollection."
OK, I get the impression that Javhul's not willing to spend his treasury to get rid of the Proteans (unlike them, who handed us a bunch of magic items... Cheap so and so. BTW, we reaaallllly need to find someplace to buy and sell stuff. I figure most of us are at about 1/2 WBL... but we've got a bunch of loot from all the way back to the Pale Mountain temple )
Sense Motive on to confirm Obherak's unwillingness to spend...: 1d20 + 9 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 3 + 4 = 23

Foxy Quickpaw |

"I can tell you where Javhul worked on becoming the firebleeder before he got captured here. And if you don't know I can also tell you from his rants what the firebleeeder is supposed to be."
"But he is no longer my enemy. He is gone and has important things to do. Like destroying your wolrd."

Omari the Landless |

Sultan Obherak gets a raised eyebrow and a long look; Omari asks "You seriously think that Javhul isn't the type to come looking to pay back old debts once he has his superweapon?" After a pregnant pause he continues, "Still, I think we are onto something here. We kill the Proteans, you give us access and aid using the Earth Seed, all what you can tell us about Javhul and the Firebleeder, and whatever aid you can provide to fight the Proteans. Does that sound like a bargain to you?"

Omari the Landless |

"Before we go sailing off over the edge of the world, we need to figure out how to get back from the Isles of Not... Last time the Proteans' leader, Laphraset, sent us back to Kakishon using her powers, and I think by calling on the Entropy Pools. Once she's dead, that's not a viable route. Samuel, Rayhan, have either of you got any ideas?"

Ohrmizd |

"Bring the prisoner, it must be able to explain us how to do it" exclaims Ohrmizd.

Rayhan Xobhadi __ |

"I'm researching new spells, especially one for teleportation. I'm not sure if teleportation works in Kakishon, but I would assume so. As what the proteans do is basically that, just by other means. I would need to finish my research and try it out, but then we'd have a way."

Omari the Landless |

"Would you please silence your incompetent minons?" Obherak requests from Omari. "The protean doesn't sit behind bars, and it would be gone before you'd be able to get your first answer if I realease it from its confinement."
I can't resist...
For those who know him well, there is a clear note of amusement in his voice as Omari orders "Be quiet minions! This is important business!" and then continues "I believe that with proper preparations, an inscribed magical ward, we could keep your prisoner from escaping even if we let it loose from it's present confinement, (Inscribe a Magic Circle against Chaos around where it would be released, in the trap function, like when using planar binding. You would also have to pitch in a dimensional anchor spell. I could do both with prep time) but I doubt we would have much luck interrogating a being of primal chaos. I think Rayhan's idea has promise though, and Samuel may also have a trick in mind - wizards usually do. Rayhan, how long do you think it would take to complete your research? Samuel, what do you think? Also, I am not expert enough on planar geometries to be sure, but if we could fly back up the waterfall off the edge of Kakishon, would one return to archipelago?"
Would flying back up work? I expect we will need to make a couple of K planes and/or K Arcana checks to answer that, and similar withe teleportation.

Rayhan Xobhadi __ |

"I'm contemplating the spell for a while and I think I can figure it out in a day or two. As for the flying... I think it should work, but time is the limiting factor. The distances are larger than what you normally cross with a simple flight spell. Overland flight on the other hand would work, but is only persomal."
"I've heard of wind walk, but that is a divine spell I can't hope to master."

Ohrmizd |

"Can we seriously not kill this jerk?" mutters Ohrmizd in Kelish while offering a sheep smile to the shaitan's leader.

Samuel Jafar |

As they approach the hut Samuel tells the shaitan guards to stand guard outside. "If you are in need of food or drink let me know. I will join you momentarily." Once inside he approaches the cleric and says "We still have little experience with spells in this plane. We need a plan this evening and tomorrow we need to test the spells of that plan."

Omari the Landless |

"Yes, we need to plan. As you have mentioned, we need to figure out how magic works here. However, I am no scholar of the arcane. So figuring out what test we need to perform will fall on you and Rayhan. First question - how to get back from the Isles of Not. We came up with 2 options during the meeting with Sultan Obherak; flying and teleportation. I could probably get myself and Khedron back if flying will work, and maybe one more, but that would be a limit. (Air walk last 10min/lvl; Fly spells last 1 min/lvl. I could prepare as many as 3 of them if I put all available spell slots on ) I am not sure what you, Heshan and Rayhan can do by way of flying. Teleportation is definitely not my thing; but it sounds like Rayhan is close to having it available?? (BTW Foxy, what lvl is Rayhan?) While you and Rayhan work on our teleportation problem, and experiment to confirm how the laws of magic work here, I can prepare scrolls that should be useful against the Proteans. "
Basically, I think we wait until Rayhan and Samuel research how to cast a teleport spell. Then we experiment to confirm that it will bring us back from the Isles of Not. For the rest of us, while that's going on, we can plan our spell load outs and tactics for Protean fighting (and make scrolls or other magic items, assuming the feats are available).

Ohrmizd |

"Ah, there is something that tells me this is not ok, but let's do this, we need to get out of this place" Ohrmizd resolves "Let's focus on how to get there. If we are not able to defeat the proteans, any resources put on getting back here will be lost for nothing"

Omari the Landless |

"We know how to get there, sail a ship off the edge of Kakishon. Obherak gave us a stone to steer the galley, much like the egg we were given before. ("Here take that stone to steer the galley to the proteans") And now that we know how fun the ride is, we can tie ourselves to the mast before we take it again... The only question I have is can the hull take it if we have the Shaitan guards on board; you remember trying to lift the one we defeated... Landing with 2 of those on the deck might break the keel."

Omari the Landless |

The conjurer maintains his focus on the cleric. "How many shaitans were there? How many proteans? We just reduced the shaitans by 2."
Omari replies to Samuel, speaking loudly and clearly (in cast the Shaitan guards have stayed close enough to listen...) "The Shaitan are currently our allies; we don't need to worry how many of them there are." Then he drops to a sotto voice and quickly continues "There were at least 10 Shaitan in evidence at the parley - Obherak, Iquilma, and I counted 8 guards. There might have been more hiding in the earth. Who knows how many are roaming about the rest of Kakishon, like Dilix and Bhaanu?" Speaking clearly again, he answers the second question: "When we visited them last, there were the 3 guardians at the docks, 2 fake elves - Laphraset and Chinoy. Laphraset mentioned a 'Thaiyanathan' who had 'gone insane' and was 'bound in an entropic pool'. I believe that you and Slip saw Thaiyanathan, and he had another 2 guardians with him. But that was all we saw. 8 total - 5 guardians, Laphraset, Chinoy, and the bound Thaiyanathan."

Heshan Antar |

"That does not seem too bad," Heshan smiled. "...provided we can exploit any of their weaknesses."
"As for the question of flight, I can provide that for everyone, including your animal companion, but only for 9 minutes at best. Hopefully I can provide better means of flight in the future."

Rayhan Xobhadi __ |

Rayhan continues with his studies until he finally has a breakthrough. He writes down what he thinks is the right words and reads them again and again, until he has them memorized. Then he speaks them aloud and is gone.

1d100 ⇒ 41
CL: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
1d100 ⇒ 50
A few moments later he reappears. "Eureka! It works!"

Ohrmizd |

"It works? What works?" Ohrmizd asks a bit of distracted.
When it comes to reach to the proteans, he uses the stone to steer the galley "To the lands that should not exist. And hand me one of those ropes, I do not want to end this time on the water. The salt is ruining my hairstyle"

Omari the Landless |

Omari is happy to hear that Rayhan has succeeded in his research "You have got it Rayhan? Excellent, share your results with Samuel, and cross check to make sure there are no errors. Then we will rest and plan our tactics this evening and set sail with the dawn..."
Suggestion for our wizards - make yourselves very familiar with the hostel at the foot of the pier here on Khandelwhal. Perhaps scribe a set of arcane marks on the walls as references for your teleports...
WRT to tactics - sail there, dump a bunch of buff spells and go ham on everything we meet... We should be able to get by with min/lvl spells, the place just isn't that big.

Rayhan Xobhadi __ |

"What spells shall I prepare for buffing you? Haste? Bulls Strenght? Or owls wisdom to increase your resistance against magical attacks?" Rayhan inquires.
"Also about tactics - I think we should find a way to arrive before the boat. There is no reason for us to return to the proteans other than attacking them. The sign for them that we succeeded would be freeing the protean Obherak has. If we had a way to stop the boat above the edge of the world and fly down we could increase the chances of a surprise attack."

"Haste should work wonders for us, especially after I Slow our enemies at the same time," he grinned while motioning the fingers on his hand. "Boosting our wills is also a good idea. As for stopping the boat... I have Minor Creation under my belt. I can create a wall of matter to block the boat if the water is shallow enough."

Ohrmizd |

"Why not just we set the vessel anchor and hold it there?" suggests Ohrmizd as a quick solution.

Omari the Landless |

"It is a clever notion Rayhan, and I can get Khedron and myself down.
But how do we fly our two shaitan allies down? Also, we will need to hide ourselves as we fly, or else we will be silhouetted against the sky above. Finally, I am not sure that the isles are visible from above - there was heavy fog (although I am not sure it is actually fog, given the substance the boat was floating on is not water). Are we sure we will be able to find the place without the boat taking us there?"
"As to supporting magics, haste would undoubtedly be useful, but we only need one at a time between the three of you (Heshan, Samuel and Rayhan). Khedron would appreciated a Mage Armor charm and/or Bull's Strength, I am sure. As for myself, Cat's Grace would not hurt. I am not sure if it is practical (RAW it works, the galley is a gargantuan animated object, and is thus subject to a feather fall spell... RAI? RAFoxy?) but I have seen Heshan use magic to control a fall before - could he affect the entire galley? As for myself I will be laying down Erastil's blessings as well."
My current buffing plan
100 Minute spells
Hunter's Blessing: Outsider (Chaotic) and Isles of Not terrain
Telepathic Bond
Ancestral Gift: +1 Outsider(Chaotic) Bane Composite Long Bow (+2 str)
Magic Circle Against Chaos (on me or one of the mages, I figure assorted mages& archers can all cluster close to be covered...
10 minute spells
Wrathful Weapon (give a weapon the Axiomatic property - my Ancestral Gift bow)
Shield of Faith
Shorter Spells
Protection From Chaos (Communal) - 5 minutes for each of the Shaitan, and Ohrmizd can use my 2 scrolls to protect himself and Khedron for 5 minutes as well.
Align Weapon (communal) -Lawful, 4 minutes for Ohrmizd's scimitar and 3 minutes for each of the Shaitan's scimitars...

Samuel Jafar |

"It would be best if I could begin summoning as soon as possible. Would anyone like to use my wand of mage armor on the elk? I will spend the evening and night familiarizing myself with this hut."
The next day Samuel casts the following spells to see how they do in this place.
summon monster V, teleport, fly, windy escape, greater invisibility, telekinesis, antimagic field, glitterdust, mad monkeys, cat's gracw, and taking a dimensional step.

Ohrmizd |

"I am very confident you smart ones are going to find a way for us to fly out there without being seen" says Ohrmizd just contemplating the calmness of the waters as they sail with the galley "The goddess will carry me there if it is necessary"
The inquisitor pats his new scimitar, Zenzirad, and soothes the polished surface of the mithral shield of Sarenrae's "Ah, this is going to be our most chaotic day on existence. But in chaotic situations we thrive, aren't we?"
Ohrmizd looks to the horizon awaiting the moment of truth "I know all what I need to know, and I am as ready as I will ever be, but if you need to try to reassure yourselves with plans and preparations I will contain myself as you do" Or at least for as long as you can contain a flame on a stormy day he thinks to himself.
