Time for a change of strategy - and Intimidate has a tiny better bonus
Von Junzt activates his voice amplifier with a swift action.
He puts his hands on Zak’s shoulders. “Brother Zak, you have guided me to the light of Gaia, and I’ll never forget you for that. But right now, you are delaying the best chance our camp has against the enemy, who is approaching us as we speak. Take me to brother Andrew now, or all of this will be undone!” he finishes by holding Zak’s hands.

Von Junzt was just brought through the main gate in the center of this image.
Zak questions Von Junzt in the courtyard area just inside the gates in this image. On Von Junzt's previous visit, he never made it beyond this courtyard. The pool was in one of the one story buildings in this area.
Zak, intimidated, now takes Von Junzt further, past another Gaian guard. The conversation between this Gaian and Zak is strange ... The guard asks, "Is this one ready?".
Zak replies, "Yes, but this one needs to see Brother Andrew first."
The guard shakes his head and says, "This one need to wait. He is feeding."
Zak takes Von Junzt past a building with a sign that reads "Kitchens" to a building with a sign that says, "Administration." A sign on the door reads, "Entrance Forbidden. No Exceptions." Zak indicates you should wait outside this door for Brother Andrew to finish whatever he his doing inside.

IX is creeping toward the compound, possibly even into, if that is possible.
Climbing over these walls is possible, but it would require a DC 22 Athletics check to scale them and a Stealth check to do so quietly.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
Upon the guard not being very quiet about it, Zellgato will shrug and point back towards the camp as if gesturing 'Don't ask me, hell if I know'
Zellgato and Gristlethorn enter the compound inner courtyard with three low buildings just as Von Junzt is led from the courtyard to the inner compound. They catch a glimpse of him leaving. "Stay with them," says the guard who is clearly in charge and has done all the speaking so far. "I'll get Ryder.
The man leaves Gristlethorn and Zellgato with the two guards.
After a little bit one of them asks, "So, have you heard about Gaia?" He scratches his face shyly and you see he has the same tattoo as the girl the last night.
Gristlethorn |
"Only a little," Gristlethorn says quietly, "Haven't been in camp long, so I've only heard the barest details.
Keeping his motions friendly and small, Gristlethorn asks. "What about you? What does Gaia mean to you?"

The guy looks sheepish and then he grins, "It's only been a week for me, but, I guess, for me, it's really about not being afraid. Like, before, I was always scared, ever since I was small, because my dad would like hit me ... but since I was welcomed to Gaia, I've felt different. Every time I get afraid, I feel this warmth deep inside of me. A happiness where there was emptiness. I feel fulfilled."
The other one nods and says, "Yeah, same."
The first stares at the second for a bit and the second elaborates, "I've had that feeling too, when I'm angry, I get this calming feeling .... They call it the Light of Gaia. I don't know what I'd do without this light ..."
Just as he says that everything goes dark.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
IX creeps closer to overhear the two, his large frame not seeming to cause him trouble.

IX watches as two men, Ryder and Brother Andrew, exit the building. Ryder heads over to the area where Zellgato and Gristlethorn are waiting to be questioned. Brother Andrew stops to talk to Von Junzt. IX would be able to hear what Brother Andrew says and look under the spoiler with a DC 18 Perception check.

Just as Von Junzt says this, the power goes out.
There's no moonlight to see by as the moon is just a sliver of a waning crescent tonight, but there is starlight and a clear sky to let it shine down.
You can consider this to be dim light: Creatures within an area of dim light have concealment (20% miss chance; see page 253) from creatures without darkvision or the ability to see in darkness. Because dim light is not ideal for observation, if you’re in an area of dim light, you can attempt a Stealth check to conceal yourself from creatures without low-light vision, darkvision, or blindsight. Dim light does not affect creatures with low-light vision, which can see in dim light as if it were normal light.

Brother Andrew looks around and then pulls Von Junzt inside the building. He barks at Zak to stay outside. There's a door open to the next room, but Von Junzt can't see into it from where he is. The place is heavy with the metallic smell of blood. "Talk. Fast." commands Brother Andrew.
IX sees Von Junzt being pulled in and Zak staying outside.
**IX** |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16
IX is unable to hear the words exchanged. When the lights go out he considers leaping into action but stops when Juntz quickly turns on his light. However, when Juntz is taken inside, and his light is gone from the door, IX attacks the door guard, his strange fists hitting with unnatural force.

Zellgato |
So, quick question on where G and I are. Are we locked in the compound? Or is there a door and placement for things? Effectively. I'm curious about the more exaction situation of our suroundings. I'm debating whether to try escape, or try for the Targets in some way. As Rena's warning seems to have solidly told Zellgato that she's turned, or at least is controlled.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
Zellgato and Gristlethorn were brought in through the main gates on the right hand side of this image. You see that area with three buildings, two brown and one silvery white? You're in that courtyard area. Von Junzt and IX are in the area beyond it.

But there I found his comm unit, containing striking information: he’s an agent of RAIN, sent here to create dissent and assassinate you! He came back and tried to murder me, but I managed to escape - he’s probably on his way here right now! You must do whatever you can to stop him!” Von Junzt grabs him by the shoulders.

Momentarily confused, almost answering with this voice "u..." before realizing whats going on and answering in kind. "I heard them mention Rena and Me. I doubt they're going to walk off right now. We're not really suited for this... But....."
Quick GM question-before I declare if Zellgato's gonna open up or run. I forgot to ask earlier. What if any weaponry do those we saw prior to the lights going out had? Man. I guess I should've sprung for the grenade haha
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
cool. And that makes.. 2 random guards. 1 extra courier guard, and ryder here?
I'll be applying a 'rowdy' template to any mass fights. Yes, there are 3 unnamed Gaians and Ryder. The Gaian guard has some kind of shock baton. Ryder carries a laser.
Ryder was going to come in here and take charge of interrogating you, but the power failure threw him off. You have the initiative.

Brother Andrew nods in the darkness. "Crius," he says, "Could you join us?"
The man Von Junzt met earlier comes into the room, the man Von Junzt suspected of being Chris Bell, undercover Agent of RAIN.
Brother Andrew continues, "Could you explain what happened to the Agent of RAIN who was using this body before you?"
"I'm not sure he really wants to hear the details," says Crius menacingly.

home and i've got.. no better ideas frankly. No clue if the gate behind us is locked. I don't have a climb speed like Gristlethorn. Not dark enough/cover for attempting to hide. This would've been an easier choice with some Hacks left.
Zellgato calls out to his cohort hoping he's still listening to his brain. "That android started his plan. No way we'll talk out of this. Run if you can, fight if you can't"
Having throught that, Zellgato calls his revolver to his hand, darting to the side between the wall and the building attempting to gain some form of cover, but taking a shot at Ryder for lack of any other plan for such a sudden switch.
Readied Mercy Revolver-if Gristlethron attacks or if Ryder attacks: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 P damage, non lethal: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 If hit, minor biohack. -1 penalty to attack for 6rds. (ignored that ready. I forgot to remove it before. Original plan was different but switched before posting)
(swift action Called weapon. Move to find cover if I can fit there, action to fire)
Feel free to climb and escape if you wish~ or join the frey. Or bluff that you're not involved with me. Zellgato wouldn't take offense. At this point he thinks he's kind of screwed the moment Ryder mentioned Rena warning about him. Given how badly he shot. Likely are doomed!
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
can you tell me about this door?
There is no window. The locking mechanism requires a code or a thumbprint. The door is made from a composite building material. The door stands up well enough to the environment, but it won't take a pounding like a solid metal door or even a good wooden one. This camp has been here for years, but it was originally intended as temporary.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
Everybody seems frozen. Is it because of the absolute chaos that is about to unfold? I'd like to suggest we go with the chaos and split this into three separate scenes and use spoilers. We have (ONE) Gristlethorn and Zellgato with Ryder in the yard; (TWO) Von Junzt, Brother Andrew and Chris-the-RAIN-agent on one side of the door with IX on the other; (THREE) Archeron up at the generator with bad guys driving towards him.
If that sounds good to everyone, you all have the initiative. Those in a face-to-face situation think they have you outnumbered and are waiting to see how you react.
Zellgato |
I did act earlier. Or. Do I get a second one before they react?
I coudln't remove the "readied" portion of it, but specified after it was jut ZEllgato shooting. I changed plans midtyping but failed to edit that portion of it. Then I couldn't change it without messing with the amcro set. Would you rather I roll again or take the ealier shot?

No, you're right, Zellgato has acted. Gristlethorn will have a chance to act as well before Ryder and the mooks do.
Archeron |
Archeron propped his rifle against the door, drew his pistol with explosive ammo, and waited until the lead vehicle was about 100' out and then began firing at the vehicle.

Chris Bell, the RAIN agent you were supposed to extract from the compound, is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Brother Andrew, the apparent leader of this branch of the cult. They turn, and look at the melting door, surprised.
A negligible Sense Motive check would reveal to Von Junzt that Brother Andrew is not charmed.
For a moment, they are distracted.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
The Devil's Bridge Brigade members inside the vehicle get out and hide behind the doors of the vehicle. By the time they are ready to fire at Archeron, Archeron has the initiative again.

Von Junzt gets to act again before IX acts in a new round.
Chris Bell wrinkles his nose at the smell of burnt door and acid. He says something to Brother Andrew, but it is not in a human language. It's a series of chirps and clicks that comes very fast and doesn't sound like something a human mouth would normally be able to do. Brother Andrew commands, "Speak English. I do not like how our language sounds when it comes from these mouths."
Friedrich von Junzt |
“Guards! Security! Brothers! There’s an assassin trying to kill brother Andrew! Hurry and help him! Hurry!”
Can I see our captured colleagues from where I am?
