Magdi the Tribeless
Magdi chants another spell, unleashing a burst of guiding warmth that bolsters his allies.
Casting bless again. Duration is 7 minutes.
GM Rutseg
Tonny consumes an extract and his arms grow in length considerably, his whip already menacing around the strange aquatic oozes.
More of Adriana's wounds disappear by judgment of the Dawnflower, while she squeezes between the wall and the reach of the creatures. Reaching the one in front, her slash cuts one good chunk of the carcass.
Magdi conjures the spirits of the cave waters asking to guide the group in combat. You see the waves in the cave start to push the globsters, putting them closer to Tewa's and Adriana's blades.

Tewa winds up for another powerful swing, aiming to hack the entire glob in half with a single swing.

With a resolved movement of her blade, Tewa cuts through the carcass in front splitting it in two with a single blow! The remains of the ooze are taken by the waves.
While Jonah starts saying words invoking the forces of nature, Rosemary flies over the next one sinking her beak in the dead flesh. Despite the acid seems to not affect the ooze, the bird's bite causes considerable damage.
The remaining globster reaches for Adriana.

Magdi hesitates a moment, frowning. "Had I known that we'd fight these things, I'd've prepared other spells." He curses under his breath before taking a short step forwards. After this, I'll commune with a spirit to get some sort of help with more adaptable enemies.
He swallows hard, struggling against the sickening stench of the oozes, before casting another spell, this one barely more than a cantrip, and granting Tonny a bit more accuracy with divine guidance.
5 foot step and casting guidance on Tonny. My spells are all aimed at dragon-fighting/resisting emotions today!

Tonny's whip slashes at the remaining creature, opening a small wound in the carcass, in good measure with the help of Magdi.

Jonah, Adriana and Tewa to go!
Jonah Halwood
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Jonah finishes his spell, and a wolf comes bounding out of the brush nearby. It is not a creature the group has seen before with Jonah, but it seems to be more than happy to join in the fight. it flanks the giant sludge monster with rosemary and bites down.
I don't know if these are immune to flanking or not, so subtract 2 from both animals' attacks if it is.
wolf bite: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18

wow, those are not great rolls...
Jonah himself doesn't have much to do, as none of his weapons do slashing damage... he hangs back for now
GM Rutseg
The sudden apparition of a wolf takes the globster by surprise, the new wild animal sinking its teeth on the creature, tearing apart a piece of dead flesh!
Fly DC 15 to hover: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Rosemary hovers skillfully over the globster, which allows her to fully attack the strange aquatic creature, but her talons and beak are little more than a distraction.
GMPC Adriana
More of Adriana's wounds heal thanks to Sarenrae's redemptive healing while the woman thrusts forward.

Magical/Slashing damage+DF+bane: 1d6 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 + 2 + (5, 4) = 19
The blade cuts deep through the carcass opening a wide gash.
GMPC Tewa
Tewa attempts to slash at the same time synchronously.
Attack with Kuye Lam (power attack, sickened): 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 - 2 - 2 = 8
Damage (power attack, sickened): 2d6 + 8 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (1, 5) + 8 + 6 - 2 = 18
But the stench seems too much for her seasoned sailor focus.
The globster retaliates against the faithful of Sarenrae.
Slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 162d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 5) + 9 = 17
But protected by the powers of the waves and her faith in the Dawnflower, she blocks the attack and readies for more.

Attack with Kuye Lam (power attack, sickened): 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 2 - 2 = 12
Damage (power attack, sickened): 2d8 + 6 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (1, 7) + 6 + 6 - 2 = 18

Magdi considers his options briefly before moving forwards once more. Stopping behind Adrianna, he casts a minor spell, the last option available to him at the moment.

Jonah's animals attack together, but only Rosemary manages a bite with her beak before repositioning to give a flank to Tewa.

AoO: Slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 232d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 5) + 9 = 19
The globster punish the hawk for that movement with a terrible slam.
Meanwhile Magdi and Tonny guide and aid Adriana, who sure will do something heroic with their help!
The globster keeps attacking, this time on Tewa.
Slam: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 102d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5) + 9 = 15
But the waves move the carcass away and the hit just lands on the ground!
Surprisingly, Tonny's whip is the most effective this time!

Jonah and Tonny were faster than Magdi, so they go first, and Rosemary tears down the creature with a powerful bite and claw slash!

With the strange oozes destroyed, the carcasses drift away out of the cave, and Magdi can call the spirits to heal the party without affecting his enemies.

Now, the group can have a more calm observation of the cave. The ceiling height within averages 15 feet, with muddy or slippery stone floors where the water itself doesn’t reach. This makes all of the floors inside the caves difficult terrain.
The ledge you are walking through ends in a cul-de-sac, but the opening at the north, full with a water current, shines with a green light like the one you spot in your vision.
Magdi the Tribeless
"Are we in any special rush?" Magdi inquires. "I would like to spend some time communing with a spirit that might help me prove more useful in our next fight."
Specifically, he wants to use Spirit Talker to grab a hex that might be meaningful. Still figuring out which I'd go for.
Tonny Prul
|
"Um, maybe?" Tonny continues coiling his whip, squeezing water out of it as he goes. "Those globsters probably didn't come here naturally, so it would make sense that they'd be some kind of protection for the egg by the coven. Their destruction might have alerted the coven to our presence, but we might be able to evade them if we grab the egg quickly and move. We also need to get back to the thunderbird before they can intercept us."
GM Rutseg
Magdi starts saying strange words and prayers, the cave fills with a damped breeze that tastes salty in your lips. The spirits seems to answer the Yamasian.
What hex Magdi?
The only way forward seems the small tunnel to the west from where the green light sheds, but it is difficult to transit due to the current. Although not deep, about 5', the force of the water makes it difficult to move through.
Swim DC 10, or you can also try to climb, fly, etc...
Magdi the Tribeless
Magdi takes a few seconds in deciding which spirits to contact, before settling on those of battle and blood.
Going to choose Hampering Hex.
"Alright, I'm prepared." He rises to his feet. "Let's continue before our foes arrive to stop us."
Jonah Halwood
Jonah will go to scout ahead a bit.

GM Rutseg
Magdi could have called the spirits before entering the cave so your magic is mostly still ongoing. But you would have most probably waited for Adriana and Tewa to recover from the sick feeling, which means the wolf howls and runs away from the cave as the magical effect dissipates.
Jonah makes it into the water, and swims with ease through the tunnel to reach the cavern at the other side while Rosemary flies close to him.
G2. Inner Sanctum
This cavern echoes with the sound of water sloshing against the edge of a fungus-encrusted beach of slippery, shiny gravel to the west. Thick tangles of roots, infested with filaments of pale fungus, hang from the cave roof, much of it glowing with a soft green light. Near the west wall, amid a heap of glistening fungal growths, nestles a four-foot-tall sky-blue egg, its speckled surface periodically sparkling with tiny tendrils of electricity.
The insubstantial specter of a woman bathed in sickly green sparks (picture electricity instead of fire going around her body), floats just off the ground next to the egg, whispering blasphemies to it.

Tonny: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Spectral woman: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
The creature raises her head to look at the hunter, and receives him with a shriek, the green electricity that shrouds her body further filling the room with disconcerting illumination.
As the electricity crackles around, her voice sounds otherworldly, filling the room with a sense of imminent doom "You are not taking my egg! Spirits of the death, come to me in aid!"
She is performing some kind of summoning, but what exactly, it is difficult to tell.

Earlier:
With the prospect of more swimming ahead, Tonny gets to work brewing himself a vial of monkey fish extract. (Takes 1 minute to brew, but will give the drinker 10 ft climb and swim speeds.)
Now:
"That doesn't sound good!" Tonny almost ties himself in a knot as his elongated arms search for something. "I just put it away, where did it go, is that it, maybe, yes!" He gulps down the extract, then shivers as his fingers begin to grow webbing and hooked nails. "Ooo, that's... an experience." Carefully he walks along the shore as far as he can before plunging into the water, remembering at the last minute to keep his head above the waves.

Tonny and Magdi move into the water after taking some previsions to make their trip easier.
Jonah loses no time and starts shooting bolts at the wicked creature. The thing proofs to be much more difficult to target than expected and the bolts get deflected, hitting all at the wall behind her. AC
I forgot the knowledge check before, sorry!
This is clearly an electrical variant of a witchfire.
These incorporeal undead spawn from the death of exceptionally vile hags or witches who left some malicious plot incomplete, or who proves too horridly tenacious to succumb to the call of death.
These ghostly creatures appear much as they did in life, although the grotesque undead energy that births them makes them appear young and attractive and wreathes their insubstantial bodies in a powerful aura of sickly green flame, lightning in this case.
Aside from the normal traits of undead and incorporeal, you also know their fire bolts engulf their victims in the green fire, sickening them and making them vulnerable to that type of energy attack.

Magdi swims over to the nearest spit of land, pulling himself out of the water as he eyes the witchlightning. What can I do here? He is struck by inspiration momentarily. Hopefully she can't do that again...
He begins chanting before unleashing the power of the spirits to dispel her crackling shield of electricity.
CL Check vs. 11+Her CL: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 I hope that works, but I somehow doubt it will. Damn.

Tonny flounders up onto dry land next to Magdi, finally able to look at the green electric ghost. "A... witchfire..." he gasps. "Uh... try not to... point anything... metal at it?"
Move action to move, move action to activate Opportune Advice.
Jonah Halwood
"don't point metal at it? how do we fight it if we don't use metal?? Jonah yells back to Tonny
He doesn't really have any other options, so he keeps shooting. at least one arrow did something.

“Well, because metal is conductive - it, uh, electricity flows through it really easily. Usually. Okay, not all metals, but I don’t think any of us have any of those because they’re horrifically expensive…”
It’s just flavor for the Opportune Advice - no worries about arrowheads and swords and the like. XD

@Magdi, check discussion
Tonny gives good advice, which is perhaps what helps one of Jonah's bolts trespass the incorporeal's formidable defenses. AC Still, the bolt does only half damage due to the incorporeal essence of the foe.
Witchlighting: 7 damage, barely scratched
Party buffs: water breathing 4-6 h, bless 5 min, opportune advice (+2 AC/saves)
Adriana: 46/52 hp; warding hex (+2 def. AC), bane 3/7, judgement (justice +2 sacred to hit), resist energy (20 electricity) 70 min
Magdi:
Tewa:
Tonny: longarm 7 min, monkey fish (Climb/Swim 10') 7 min
Rosemary: 33/35 hp; acid maw 3 min
Round 3: Witchlightning, Jonah, Adriana, Tonny, Tewa (x2), Magdi (reroll?)
Tewa She
Tewa turn the 1st
Tewa spends all her effort to rush forward through the water as fast as she can. Double move, can always take 10 on swim
Tewa turn the 2nd
Tewa continues moving towards the land and melee where she specializes. She grins as she pauses to cast a spell. ”I have a non-metal blade.” Casting Spiritual Weapon. Her patron is Kazutal, so it would be a machete with a 19-20/x2 crit modifier
SR Check (if needed): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Spiritual Weapon Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Damage (machete): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Magdi the Tribeless
Using a Hero Point to reroll, as per GM's recommendation.
Dispel Magic vs. CL: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 The dice roller's not interested in letting me get away with this, evidently. Literally the same roll. xD
GM Rutseg
Tewa wades through the water as fast she can.
Magdi makes an heroic effort to bring down the witchlightning defenses, but the fate has decided it is a no this time.
By then, Tewa is already close enough to send a real danger towards the incorporeal witch, a single-blade made of pure force! The witch is ready though and dodges the attempt.
GMPC
Adriana struggles to see how to reach the incorporeal, but when she sees Tewa's spiritual weapon, she is inspired "Didn't we found a bead of force in the shipwreck? It might come handy here"
Unable to fly, she drops her scimitar in the water pool and brings her bow using bane to make the weapon magical "Dawnflower guide my arrows!"
Shortbow+bless+justice+bane: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 22
Magical/Piercing damage+bane: 1d6 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (2, 3) = 8
But the arrow lands only hitting the cave's wall.
"You meddlers, will not have the egg!" the witchlighting flies over and launches a second bolt at Adriana.
Witchbolt (touch): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
Electrical damage: 8d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 2, 4, 1, 2, 6) = 21
Adriana Will DC 24: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
This time Adriana endures the effect once more, despite the bolt hits her for good, and the witchlighting really seems raging for that.
Witchlighting: 7 damage, barely scratched
Party buffs: water breathing 4-6 h, bless 5 min, opportune advice (+2 AC/saves)
Adriana: 45/52 hp; warding hex (+2 def. AC), bane 4/9, judgement (justice +2 sacred to hit), resist energy (20 electricity) 70 min
Magdi:
Tewa: spiritual weapon r11
Tonny: longarm 7 min, monkey fish (Climb/Swim 10') 7 min

Round 4: Witchlightning, Jonah, Adriana, Tonny, Tewa, Magdi

"She won't leave the egg!" Tonny yells, cracking his whip and hoping the witchshock won't realize it can't affect her until too late. "That means her mobility is limited - pin her in!"

Jonah Halwood
Jonah is encouraged that one of his bolts did at least something so he keeps the pressure on

GM Rutseg
Tonny releases a powerful advise that encourages the group to find the demise of the undead creature. The half-elf's whip slashes in the air, even though not magical, still looking menacing to the witchlightning.
Mewanwhile, Jonah continues unleashing bolts from his crossbow, but only one manages to pierce through the undead's defenses. half damage
With Tonny's inspiration, Adriana takes the chance to call for a more destructive blessing from her goddess releasing a new arrow.
Shortbow+bless+bane+Inspirational Expertise+aid: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 1 + 2 + 4 + 2 = 31
Magical/Piercing damage+bane+destruction: 1d6 + 2 + 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (1, 4) + 3 = 14
The arrow cuts through the incorporeal loaded with magical bane destruction. still half damage only
Despite the ranged attacks efforts, the incorporeal witch still looks far away from the true death.

Round 4: Witchlightning, Jonah, Adriana, Tonny, Tewa, Magdi
Magdi the Tribeless
Sorry for the delay, lots of stuff happening this past few days.
Magdi hesitates for a breath, before slipping back into the water and unleashing a burst of life-giving energy - focusing it on harming the undead witchlightning.
Channel vs. Undead: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 6) = 12 Will DC 15 to halve the damage.
GM Rutseg
Will DC 15: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Magi releases a wave of positive energy that fills the cave making burn the strange electrical spirit. Although she seems to resist part of it, the positive energy is fully effective making it burn in light!
Tewa does something heroic!
On face of Adriana's resistance and the wave of energy burning on her, the witchling changes her focus to Magdi "Ah! A cleric we have! Die then my sacred pal!" she extends her hand and an electrical arc jumps from there towards the human while she laughs malevolently "HaHaHaHaHa!"
Witchbolt: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Electrical damage: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 6, 5, 4, 6, 5) = 31
