Forest (tree squares) = Difficult Terrain.
1/2 square of forest = Light Cover (+1)
Full square of forest = Cover (+2)
2 squares of forest = Heave Cover (+4)
2+ squares of forest = no LOS

Well, I hoped for them both to be burned to ash, and the third one to escape with fear on its branches ;) Maybe I should have thrown a bottle of spirit at them first, hmm...
GM Wayfinder
So... Dragh.
I guess I never saw this before, but... I was first happy because I did not crit' you... twice.
Then I wondered how the heck you have 18 AC.
You list:
ARMOR CLASS
AC: 18 (10 + 2(dex) + 4(prof) + 2(item)) [T]
So, 10 +2 Dex +4 Prof = 16. That I follow, since you Trained in unarmored defense.
But you are Untrained in all armor as a Wizard.
And you listed Armor Proficiency: Light as a Skill Feat.
But it is not, it is a General Feat, unless I am mistaken (?).
Thus you cannot be trained in Light Armor, I believe.
Meaning that your Studded Leather Armor does not add to your Proficiency.
So, it is either 16 (as above) w. no Item.
Or only the Item w/o the Prof' (for 14 w. Dex).
Which means I believe you are stuck with 16 AC... or am I wrong?
Dragh Goldenoak
@GM Didn't your mama taught you that it is not nice to look into people's character sheets?
Now jokes aside... You are right. I am sorry, my upgrade is a mess. I should select from skill feats. I read the list number of times as I had troubles to find anything that would be usable and anyhow relevant to Dragh. So yeah I have 16 AC, I haven't bought Studded Leather Armor, and I got hit critically twice which means 28 dmg and I am at -2.
I saw your initial post, that broke at it swings twice at Dragh, and I was glad to not be even hit ;)
GM Wayfinder
I'd have to check the rules, but I think so. why? You know otherwise?
If I remember correctly, the Reflex bonus etc. is if you have Cover between you and the origin of the spell, or the arrow etc..
I mean, you could argue that since the arc of lightning leaps from one target to another one of them could have Cover etc..
But, for me, since you do not even need to have 2 targets to cast the spell, I wouldn't count Cover.
But if you argue it well enough, I will accept!
Who needs Cover when you roll nat' 20's every round?!
GM Wayfinder
And 1's every round w. damage vs. Natsume when only 1 out of 3 attacks hit.
You are saved!
Dragh Goldenoak
Just a quick question to our dwarf hating GM. The green bush which attacked me and moved in front of Natsume. Did the movement provoke AOO from Natsume? Or did the vine waved it branches while walking making a step?
Asking for a friend ;)
GM Wayfinder
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Tell your friend it only needed to move 1 square, so... a Step.
For the Black one moving down, I rolled a 50/50 to see which way it would take, since both ended up at the same spot after a Move, but one did not take it in range of the AoO-- the dice favored it.
But Asmodeus must like Dwarves... for he shined up on his Cleric's dice roll.
GM Wayfinder
Just FYI: the CRB errata has sided with the fact that the "broken" condition is reached when the damage equals the BT, and not only when it goes past the BT.
I would have sided with the most player friendly, but the discrepancy has been corrected.
GM Wayfinder
Pure game moves are fine, but they must follow the game rules.
Ready takes Two Actions by itself.
GM Wayfinder
Then move your Mini.
Describe your trigger (more clearly than "when Natsume arrives"--where?).
And say what Action you will use when you take your reaction.
(Move is not an action - there are things like Step, Stride etc.).
Natsume Ren
Why drop the shield, out of curiosity? It slows me down 5 feet, but if we do clear out, I can fix it pretty quickly, and dropping it is gonna be an action itself iirc (though I'm not finding rules one way or the other for that, actually-- maybe that's changed in 2e and I can slip my arm out as a free action?).
SuperBidi
Because you'll drop at the end of the turn because of the bleeding. If you have the shield, you'll move only 40 ft. on the next turn and take an attack if they chase you. If you don't have the shield, you'll be out of harm's way.
And the action lost is not much important. My goal is for your to be protected because Dying. Next turn, when I heal you, you'll be able to run away from them.
Natsume Ren
With the shield: 3 15-foot actions (45 foot moved)
Without the shield: 2 20-foot actions (40 foot moved)
Right?
Dragh Goldenoak
So I posted, and then started to think, are we running away? Meaning trying to reset the encounter? (if we can)? Because then my action makes no sense and I should be running away through the forest.
Natsume Ren
We're at least trying to get far enough that they stop chasing us so we can heal up, tape my shield back together, then return and smash 'em to bits. Should be a little easier now that we've got one of them halfway down and one of them all the way down!
GM Wayfinder
Release is a free action.
There is nothing I see saying that Tower Shield is different than other shields re. holding them.
And the CRB says that:
Most shields must be held in one hand
(the other shields being, in this case, "bucklers").
So it is a free action to drop your shield for me.
If you find something else, tell me.

Okay Dragh, change your actions.

I hope Dragh and Tamerius' players had safe trips (and are not too tired).
Natsume Ren
Hero Points do stop death.
And dying.
But he'd keep bleeding, probably.
Spend all your Hero Points (minimum 1) to avoid death. You can do this when your dying condition would increase. You lose the dying condition entirely and stabilize with 0 Hit Points. You don’t gain the wounded condition or increase its value from losing the dying condition in this way, but if you already had that condition, you don’t lose it or decrease its value.
Farol
Eric, Eric, Eric...
And I tried to be nice here, I came to Toronto, yesterday I ate poutine to feel more french. I don't know how I could have played it better...
Jokes aside, I want to ask a few questions before killing yet another dwarf in the story. How did the plants know where to go? Do they have some blood scent? I was over 2 squares within the forest, which means no line of sight.
And a second question (as I wanted to ask a few of them): WHY???
I know why? but WHY????
And again I am fine with Dragh going down and dying. But please entertain my curiosity and answer additional questions: does it mean that my PFS character that I would select to get the chronicle dies as well? Will I be able to play with you after I am back from vacation? I don't much care about the chronicle, but I do enjoy the story. I was thinking that we could bring a new PC on 2nd lvl. I could even not read what is happening for that 3 week period of my absence and due to that ask more questions about the story, etc. etc.
GM Nine-Tuiles
Could be tremorsense (given that plants are lacking eyes generally), but that's just my best guess.
Farol
BTW. I did a retrospect, and besides the obvious fact, that GM picked up on me :P I think this whole fight was my mistake.
On the first round, Dragh went in and used the burning hands. It brought me down immediately which taken us into a very chaotic mess of a fight. Overall I think it is fair that Dragh will fall down (if one has to). He should have stay in range, and drop damage from the distance, it could have ended differently.
So Natsume, Giggett, and Tamerius please accept my apologies...
GM Wayfinder
Michael, Michal... "Michel"!
Poutine! OH?! You need a Hero Point just to digest that )))
Before, why... how.
Your comrades in arms guessed well.
tremorsense (imprecise) 30 feet
Dragh was just @30 feet (counting diagonals) from the furthest plant.
Which means that he was "followed" by the plants via that sense. But he remained Hidden since it an imprecise sense.
has the hidden condition instead of the observed condition
Which means that A creature knows your location but can’t see you.
So they know which square to go to.But then when they come up, they "see" Dragh, thus no miss chance to roll anymore.
I even have looked all over the CRB and Bestiary to see if this tremorsense replaced "vision".
But though I did not find anything saying this explicitly, it is quite clear that it is additional and does not replace.
So the plants can "see" also. Their tremorsense is an extra sense.
That I get from blind creatures that are immune to visual effects for example, and other creatures that have other senses but are marked with "no vision".
Also, the plant entry says nothing about seeing/not seeing.
So, if anyone knows something different, but I looked a lot.
GM Wayfinder
1 person marked this as a favorite.
WHY?
Because Dragh's blood is steeped in Gale!
As the ads' say:
Even plants want Gale!
This is not a PFS game per se (scenario etc.). It is a campaign thing where you get PFS benefits:
Players who complete this adventure, and GMs who run the adventure, gain the Chronicle sheet included with this document which they can apply to any of their Pathfinder Society organized play characters. Players must decide which character to apply credit to when they receive the Chronicle sheet and the GM signs it.
There is nothing at all about losing credit, XP etc..
So, if Dragh dies, you can go on and kill a few more characters if you want! xD
Whatever the outcome of the module, at the end, you get your Chronicle sheet and the 12XP etc..
If you have a PFS Dragh, he is not impacted by this (and can get the Chronicle sheet if you want).
GM Wayfinder
First of all, Dragh is not yet dead... though, as you know, he is talking to Bort right now!
If Dragh does go to meet his ancestors, of course you can come back in with another character, which I hope you would still want to do, and I would be sad to see you go as a player.
There are several ways of bringing someone else in.
Taking up any existing character from the village (Pari, the elven Ranger... the mayor?!) or coming up with someone that was taken prisoner or whatever, or a passing traveler etc..
On a more prosaic level: it would be a bit hard to recalculate all for 3 vs. 4 (like this encounter, reducing 3 monsters by 25% is not really easy).
___________________________________
The anti-dwarf league member GM is not sure this whole fight was your mistake.
Yes, going close into melee w. the reach creatures might have turned out to be not the best move, but I am not sure you knew they were that sturdy.
And you felt that fire might take them out hard (but Dragh is now in a coma, and he has not shared his feelings about this!), and you rolled low.
It's a tense and exciting fight! (as I told Giggett, I was wondering, before it started, if it would be a TPK - the Bleed is for me the kicker ; and, you all escaped one thing, the Blood Siphon I told you about w. Tamerius' Recall Knowledge. Because that means they can actively wound someone who is Dying - adding 1 to their Dying condition -, multiple times if several do this, and then the Bleed can wound again - adding again... So, technically, if you go down, you can die in that round.

@GM - got it, just asked the question to cover all the possible angles of surviving the fight. And also I am joking about you picking up on Dragh, and have no hard feelings. I hope you never had any doubts about that.
Plants bloom on gale ;)
Now my second question? Can I bring new PC? and when can I bring him? Should I focus on creating a PC and bring him/her after my vacation?
GM Wayfinder
re. bringing in a new PC, as I said, either you can pick someone you met in or around the village and see if you can create a character based on that person (there are a dwarf father and son I can try to kill too! [joking]).
Or just create someone from scratch we get into the story somehow (lots of way).
You can also create a smurf!
