Pai Shecks
|
Skittering over to get a clear shot at the blue swarm, Pai gives herself a swift pep talk. "You can do this, Pai! Get 'em!" With that, she sends out another blast of electrical energy from her open palm.
Electric blast vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 172d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4) + 5 = 12
Includes Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, and Elemental Overflow
GM Baerlie
|
Sirius kills the remaining individuals of the swarm in front of him while Arin aproachs the other swarm. A sudden burst of sound hits it.
Fort vs. burst: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Pai shoots a blast of energy at the swarm in front of her, but misses.

Attack Grid DC5: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14
13 Fire Damage. Reflex 16 to take half.
"These things are a bit more resilient than I expected. What kind of museum has this level of infestation! I have some products to sell you after this!" he laughs out as he throws another bomb at the purple swarm.
Mykel Therinor
|
Mykel moves forward and takes a flask of liquid fire and readies it to launch at the swarm.
5 ft step and ready the flask...question....are the museum items safe from the fire if i miss? don't wanna damage anything if not...
Mhazruk Kruhl
|
One option since the swarms are only going to take the splash damage it so aim for a grid intersection that won't hit an object. It is what I have been doing.
Tenibri
|
Note: Tenibri's burning hands wand is CL 5; it should do 5d4 pts of damage
Additional fire damage: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 1) = 7
Tenibri repeats his attack, again sending flames shooting out at the swarm in front of him.
Standard: activate wand of burning hands (CL 5)
Damage, fire: 5d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 1, 3) = 12
If the additional damage from above means that this swarm is already dead before he acts this round, Tenibri will instead double move 35' to end in the square SE and in line with Mykel, Sirius, and Erhun
| Summoned Monster: Tenibri |
The whirlwind dissipates as the air elemental loses control of its form, but it immediately reforms and attempts to entrap the swarm again.
Standard: whirlwind attack vs. swarm
Move (if attack successful): 100' up
Damage, B: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
A small air elemental (at 2 HD) can only maintain its whirlwind form for 1 round, so the swarm is released at the end of the round. Nothing in the rules says it can't immediately reform, though, so repeating the same attack; again the swarm gets 2 saves: one vs. DC 14 to avoid the damage and a second vs. DC 14 (at -2 due to -4 Dex) to avoid being carried away
GM Baerlie

I forgot to remove the blue swarm from the map which is already defeated. Sorry!!! @Arin, Pai, Tebibri, Mykel: If you want to change your actions for this round, please do that! Sorry, this won't happen again!
Tenibri
|
With the red swarm potentially 200' in the air now, and that appearing to be the only remaining threat, Tenibri delays his action until the red swarm returns or dissipates.
Pai Shecks
|
Feeling pretty darn useless, Pai's little feet patter closer to the last spot where the red swarm was on the ground. (Double move) Craning her neck upward, she sighs at the swarm up in the sky and resigns herself to waiting for its return before releasing another blast of (probably useless) electricity at it. Cue the pity party in her head.
Arin Qualnoh
|
my attack was vs. purple, not blue, so should I still retake? or is my turn up again for *this round*. Also, we're down to red, who's tied up with the swarm our arcanist summoned. I'm not sure if I have to way to harm one and not the the other.
Arin Qualnoh
|
Arin casts Guidance on Mhazruk and then moves up next to Pai.
Tenibri
|
Y'all have permission to damage the elemental if it's going to take out the swarm; swarm damage will kill the elemental before long anyway. The summon was just a quick way to keep one swarm away from museum treasures while we took out the rest.
GM Baerlie
|
Did I miss my turn?
No, you did not miss your turn. Your action was against a valid target so you don't need to redo your action. Sorry for the confusion I caused.
Let's see if the remaining swarm is caught and brought up.
Reflex #1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Reflex #2: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 2 = 19
swarm is not in the air, but still on the ground
and because this confuses me as well, I think it's better to just continue with the turns, assuming Mykel moves to red instead of the other swarm.

Mhazruk Kruhl

Mhazruk shrugs as he tosses another bomb at the swarm.

"That should just about do it."
GM Baerlie

Sirius, Mykel and Pai finally finishe the remaining swarm.
combat over
A few seconds later you hear some people running outside, shouting things before entering the exhibition room. You can see that Mercival returned with two wizards, prepared to destroy the flies.
"Oh, well. We are too late it seems. Thank you so much for saving the artifacts." Mercival says while handing you a wand and a scroll he's currently holding in his hands. "Take this for compensation."
Wand of Mending
Scroll of Fireball
He asks the museum guys to check the artifacts before he says "Please follow me, I'll show you Montlarion's personal restoration room. Maybe you also find something there." And he moves into a smaller room filled with stuff next to the exhibition room.
Two work tables occupy this room. One holds a variety of Tian objects, including a wooden washboard, some bamboo flutes, and a pair of intricately-painted fans. The other is arrayed with aged curiosities, including a totem of a Shoanti man dressed in riding leathers as well as stacks of yellowing papers. Crates and sturdy racks, holding bits of fragile-looking sculpture and pottery, press against otherwise bare walls. There are doors along the northwest and southwest walls, and the latter is padlocked.
This room is used to restore recent acquisitions and maintain the museum’s existing collection. No staff are present in the room as they are busy with other tasks elsewhere, such as repairing the damage caused by the shrew flies in the gallery.
Suddenly a tiny, crudely carved statue of a robed man with glowing runes running across its surface appears in front of you and starts to toss things at you.
It's a Shikigami. These kami are the protectors of the minor works of civilization
"Leave, you will not destroy more treasure here!" the creature shouts.
Mercival asks not to harm the shikigami as he attempts to reassure it.
Instead of resolving this as a combat, the PCs have 3 rounds in which to succeed at a number of skill checks equal to twice the number of PCs. 14 in your case. Each skill check represents 1 round of action. A PC cannot use the same skill more than twice. So long as a player can explain how she might use a skill to handle the shikigami, it can be a valid option.

Mhazruk takes 10 to identify the Scroll and Wand. Wand of Mending and Scroll of Fireball.
"Nothing better than work being appreciated and more importantly rewarded! Anyone fancy holding on to this in case they come in handy?" he says handing them out to whoever wants them.
As they are ushered further in he hesitates wondering what other ways this museum isn't secure.
--
Knowledge (Needle): 1d20 ⇒ 3
Knowledge (Mhazruk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 GM, since this isn't combat could I take a 10 on this check? If so I would share the info.
"As long as it does not attack us I will not blow it into pieces. My bombs could spare the artifacts." he tells Mercival before speaking to the enemy.
He holds his hands out showing he has no intention to attack before reasoning it out.
Appraisal: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
"I don't plan on destroying these artifacts. To be straight-forward, I am a businessman and they are worth a great deal just like the ones we protected in the lobby." he tells the creature going in to detail about each of their values and why they would be protected.
Tenibri
|
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
"You need not fear us, Shikigami! Your purpose is to protect these minor works of creation, and we will not get in the way of your purpose!" That's everything that's in the spoiler. Tenibri lets his gaze fall over the various artifacts in the room.
Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
He searches for some connection between these artifacts and Golarion's history, but fails to identify most of what he can see. Still, he attempts to demonstrate his understanding of their value by pointing out the history that he can identify... and fudging the rest.
Pai Shecks
|
Pai's eyes widen as she smiles in appreciation of the artifacts around her. "Oh, they're beautiful! I am an artist myself, and I'd much rather admire these works of art than destroy them. Like this piece, for instance..." She goes on to chatter about how it exhibits the principles and element of design: line, shape, color, value, form, texture, unity/harmony, and space.
Profession (artisan): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Arin Qualnoh
|
Arin remains calm as ever and begins droning, matter-of-factly at the kami.
Quite simply, we just got done dealing with some pesky swarms who threatened artifacts in a different room. We did not do that just to come in here and destroy others. No, we are protectors like yourself.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Mykel Therinor
|
Mykel puts nis blade away and holds up his hands.
Hold, friend. We are friends of the museum. As my friend Arin just said, we dispatched some ravenous bugs intent on destruction. Ask the curator...
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Erhun Gabarris
|
Erhun stays quiet, knowing that his big weapons can lead to a misunderstanding. Then, choosing his words carefully, he says
If you are here to protect the museum, we are allies. We just fought swarms of insects that threatened some of the precious items.

E: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Little creature, you throw things at us but you see we don't fight back! We do not wish to harm the relics nor impede your protection of them!
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 oooooouch
Tenibri
|
Tenibri studies the artifacts that the creature is protecting, looking for connections to the arcane arts... had some been magical foci? Did any represent Nethys' work throughout Golarion?
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
He points to one he sees. "That.. there; it's primitive, but it was clearly used for early attempts at transmutative magic. It would be criminal to destroy. The preservation of these artifacts is as important to us as it is to you!"
Mhazruk Kruhl
|
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
As the creature tosses items at the group Rook plucks as many as he can out of the air before they break.
"You many not have much interest in these other objects but they are still of value. We ask that you stop destroying things as well so we can be at peace. Better for business." he sighs as his arms fill with objects that he attempts to put down.
If that doesn't work I have plenty of other rolls I can try.
Pai Shecks
|
Ducking as yet another artifact narrowly misses her ear, Pai wheedles: "Oh, please, little one! Can't you see that if we wanted to destroy things we'd already be doing that? And attacking you? But we're not, see?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Ouch. I can't promise Pai's going to handle it well if this round doesn't improve the kami's attitude.
Mykel Therinor
|
Mykel draws his weapon and points it directly at the kami.
Cease what you are doing this instant! One more move and you will leave me no choice!
intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Mhazruk Kruhl
|
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
"Good, you have at least seen the error in destroying things yourself. Now if you could please calm down the rest of the way and tell us why you think we are here to destroy these artifacts? Better yet tell us of them so that we may share how precious they are to have them protected as they deserve." he urges the kami.
Arin Qualnoh
|
knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Kami sir, your kind must have discretion, no? You must be able to discern who is an ally in protecting artifacts and who is not. Surely you can tell what we are, and that we will take great care here. You can even supervise our time in the museum if you like, but please without the hostility!
Pai Shecks
|
That's right, you hypocritical little thing. Stop breaking stuff! Swallowing her irritation, Pai turns her eyes to the artifacts, hoping she sees something else she knows about. Maybe showing more appreciation will appease it.
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
"Oooh! Look at this one! It depicts..." She prattles on about the religious significance of a small statue off to her right. "It's so amazing that it is in such great condition, considering how old it is. I'm so glad it's in a museum so it can be preserved!" Please work! We have more important things to do!
GM Baerlie
|
The shikigami calms and allows you entry into the room although Mercival must continue to calm the stressed spirit.
"Feel free to do your investigations here and in the exhibition room. I hope you find what you are looking for." Jeggare says before he continues to argue with the kami.
Again, some rules to do the investigation:
Searching the collection requires a skill check, and all of you
can search the collection simultaneously. Each of you can
attempt a Linguistics, Knowledge (geography, history, or
nobility), or an applicable Craft or Profession check (such as
Profession [curator] or Craft [woodworking]) to find excerpts
and clues contributing to the research. You might use a
different skill or ability, albeit with a penalty ranging from –1
to –3 at your discretion depending on how appropriate that
use of the skill is to the investigation. Somebody who uses magic or
class abilities in a particularly creative or relevant way might
receive up to a +3 bonus on a check at your discretion.
Each PC can either attempt a skill check or attempt an aid
another action to assist another player in their skill check.
And as a reminder, what you see in this room:
Two work tables occupy this room. One holds a variety of Tian objects, including a wooden washboard, some bamboo flutes, and a pair of intricately-painted fans. The other is arrayed with aged curiosities, including a totem of a Shoanti man dressed in riding leathers as well as stacks of yellowing papers. Crates and sturdy racks, holding bits of fragile-looking sculpture and pottery, press against otherwise bare walls. There are doors along the northwest and southwest walls, and the latter is padlocked.

joy...Mykel is near useless here...time for a Hail Mary...
Mykel heads over to the rider totem. He eyes it, curiosity striking him.
We were told about a false rider, right? Hmm... he muses as he taps the totem and its base with the pommel of his dagger, listening carefully.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13hopefully the penalty won't be too bad...
Sirius Löwenhaupt
|
Sirius will first try to use his object reading skills on the Tien objects
At 2nd level, an occultist learns how to read information from items he examines. Examining an item in this way requires him to spend 1 minute handling the item. If the item is a magic item, the occultist learns its properties and command word as if he had successfully examined the item using detect magic and succeeded at a Spellcraft check. This ability does not reveal whether the item is cursed unless the occultist’s class level is equal to or greater than the caster level of the item. If the item has any historical significance, the occultist learns one piece of information about its past (as determined by the GM). Finally, if the item was last used no longer than 1 day ago per the occultist’s class level, the occultist learns one piece of information about the last creature to use the item. This information might be a glimpse of the creature’s appearance, a brief vision of what it saw while using the item, or perhaps its emotional state when it last used the item. The GM determines what information is gained in this way. This functions like the psychometry occult skill unlock, but doesn’t require a skill check and can be used at will.
Then he will use his knowledge in history to find something, using one point of mental power to gain sudden insight.+2Insight bonus
Taking 10 for 20 Knowledge History.

Don't know if it helps but Rook is fluent in Shoanti.
