Linge lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding.

"Congratulations," she tells her teammates. "Sorry I couldn't do much..."

Cautiously, Horn takes a peek from under Linge's backpack, where he had stayed crouched and hidden. When he's sure that the danger has gone away, he wiggles out, staying surreptitiously close to everyone's legs in case someone might bend over and pet him.

Garran checks the perimeter with light-up snowballs and does not see any further threats. the night is cold and still after the brief fight, and everyone is able to get some rest, protected from the majority of the elements by the cave.

"Whew, glad that little bastard is dead! Now I wish I had used that magic the first time we encountered him, it was quite effective." Paldo said with a confident grin on his face.

"Now for some nice cold uncomfortable rest. I can't wait to be rid of this snow!"

RoW maps

the next morning the snow is falling heavily once again. the further you go along the route marked on your map the heavier the snow gets and the harder it is to tell where you're going. luckily, since you are pushing forward towards a portal that is supposedly the source of all of this, pressing in to the worst of the storm is likely the best way to find what you're looking for.

as you slowly plod along, you see some shapes start to resolve ahead of you. it looks like three squat igloos stand together about 50 feet ahead of you, but it is hard to see them clearly in the driving snow

all spaces are difficult terrain right now, and visibility is very bad. anything further than 15 feet away is concealed, and anything beyond 50 feet is not visible at all.

Blinking through her snow-covered eyelashes, Linge observes the igloos, trying to notice if there is any movement indicating that they might be inhabited. It then strikes her how little she is surprised at seeing igloos in Heldren's woods, barely a few days' walk away from the village.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 4 = 15

"I hope this isn't the work of the feys again," she tells her companions over the roaring wind, speaking a few words of power to evaluate whether the igloos (or anything that may be within) have a magical aura.

Sigrun nearly crumples under the giant creature's attack, but Linge's timely magic restores her enough to stay calm and press the attack. Seeking a little extra damage, she channels her magic into her shield, and then strikes with it as it bursts into flame.

move up (provokes, I think) and cast Touch of Combustion defensively, spellstrike to attack with shield

RoW maps

Horn moves in and bites the troll, doing a bit of damage. Sigrun is revitalized slightly and comes in swinging but misses completely.

Hal shoots twice more at the troll

bow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 16
concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 75
damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 45
damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10

both arrows hit this time doing some decent damage!

unfortunately, one of the wounds seals up completely as the troll bellows in anger.

it steps up, surprisingly not slowed down byt the snow at all. it lashes out at Hal with a long nasty looking spear
spear: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 4) + 5 = 10

it then bites at horn who also drew some blood, but misses badly

the atomie appears again, stabbing Hal
rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
damage: 1d2 - 1 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) - 1 + (6) + (1) = 7

"Oh no," Linge whispers as Hal drops to the ground, and shoots an alarmed glance at Garran, shaking her head to signify that she can't help the ranger.

She channels some of her remaining magical energy to infuse Sigrun with extra strength, hoping that the cleric will be able to heal Hal.

Garran might wish he could be in two places at once. But he can’t. The troll is a real threat, unless it is brought down quickly. Hal will just have to hang on.
