Watching cautiously as Linge approache the rodent of unusual size, Hal prepped an arrow and furrowed his brow. Hal remained skeptical that an injured rodent like this could be dealt with; had it been up to him, he'd have ended its life swiftly.
Suddenly as the rodent lashed out at Linge, Hal swore under his breath and let loose two arrows. "Damnit all, that went about as well as expected."

the party reacts quickly to the weasel, all of them rushing to Linge's aid. apparently Hal wasn't the only one skeptical of the plan to offer the wounded beasts a bit of food and everyone was ready for trouble. Sigrun bashes it with her shield, Hall places twoo accurate arrows into the critter's side and Garran comes in with the killing blow, stabbing the weasel right between two ribs and felling it.
end of combat, what do you do now?

Linge Hagebak |

As soon as the weasel drops dead, Linge quickly casts a healing spell on herself to stop the bleeding.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Not her day!
It heals some tissue back, but it seems like she has almost no magic herself to properly close her wound.
"You were right Hal," she groans, her legs still shaking. "We should have gone with your plan."

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo looks concerned at the wound Linge suffered, but is relived to see her heal herself. "Well now we don't have to worry about that thing sneaking up on us when we least expect it. Maybe Linge just try gently tossing food at something you are trying to befriend instead of throwing it right in it's face." Paldo added with a sly grin. Linge Hagebak |

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Once Linge has a little recovered, she takes a look around in case there's anything of interest.

GM My Black Midnight |

there is nothing of interest here. it doesn't look like this was a long-term lair of the beast, rather just somewhere to hole up while injured. at least you know now it won't be trying to track you as you move forward.
night will soon be falling. based on the map you have you are likely only a couple hours from the portal you have been working your way towards. if you push on tonight you would get there as the sun starts to set. or you can camp for the night and try again in the morning.

Linge Hagebak |

Linge still feels weak.
"This area seems safe enough. Maybe we can rest here for the night."

Paldo Greenspan |

"Agreed. I think this looks like an ideal place that will be safe for us. At least we don't have to worry that the owner of this lair returning in the night."

GM My Black Midnight |

The group settles in for the night, taking advantage of the shelter that the weasel had found.
descripe any preparations you make for the night. do you make a fire? what healing needs to be done? who's taking watches?

Linge Hagebak |

Since they are about to stop for the night, Linge uses the rest of her magic to heal herself.
"I can take the first watch with Horn," she suggests. "Do you think making a fire would be safe enough? We're still in the open..."
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Hal Taviskin |

Looking over at Linge, Hal manages to crack something of a smile "I didn't want to be right, but don't beat yourself up about it."
Glancing about the area, Hal murmurs "I guess that depends... is there something intelligent after us? If so, a fire be a bad idea. If not, the warmth would be welcome."

Linge Hagebak |

"I'll light one, then. If you can help me find some dry wood..."
As the evening falls, Linge takes her place near the fire with Horn, ready to take her first watch.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 10 - 4 = 11

channel: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Does anyone else need more healing?

Paldo Greenspan |

Don't need any heals.
Paldo nestles close to the fire resting his eyes and drifting to sleep.
He also hopes that no one notices he doesn't volunteer for watch duty...

GM My Black Midnight |

during your watch there is a loud sound of rushing wind echoing around you cave. it is dark, but you feel like you are being watched. in the darkness outside of the cave you hear the sound of large wings

Linge Hagebak |

If it lasts for more than a couple of minutes, she'll wake up the group

GM My Black Midnight |

something fairly large seems to have landed in a tree outside of your cave. you can't see it clearly from the light of your fire, but you're pretty certain that something flew in and stopped outside your shelter

Linge Hagebak |

Alarmed, Linge shakes everyone in the cave awake.
"Get up," she whispers. "Something landed in front of the entrance."

Garran Oakthorn |

Garran awakes from troubled dreams of winged, faceless, dancing demons. Groggily he peers around the cave. The embers of the fire do little to illuminate the area.
As Linge’s words sink in, Garran lays his sword close, as he begins to get into his armor.

Paldo Greenspan |

Paldo held his feet close to the warm fire. He was bundled in a warm blanket sitting in his favourite chair drinking some tea made from an ancient elven recipe. Everything was nice and peaceful... when suddenly he heard "Get up..." 'That silly brother of mine he thought... I am up!
Paldo pulls his blanket closer and continues to sleep.

Sigrun Barstad |

Sigrun snaps awake, not that she'd been sleeping particularly deeply. "Did you see what it is? Maybe it's just a big bird..." She doesn't move to put on her armor like Garran but does make sure her shield and weapons are close at hand.

Linge Hagebak |

"I haven't, but it looks unnaturally large."
Linge shakes Paldo a little more vigorously.
"Paldo! We're under attack!"
She throws some more wood into the fire to have some light and grabs her sling, thinking that it might be better to try to shoot the bird before it has the upper hand.

Hal quickly pops out of sleep and hops to his feet, ready and alert. Years of living in the wilderness had trained Hal to rest lightly and be ready for anything.
Grabbing his bow, he moves quickly beside Linge and whispers "Where did you see it Linge?" Preparing for a possible conflict, Hal notches a bow.
Going to ready an action if possible.

Linge Hagebak |

Linge bites down on her lower lip when she spots the two enemies outside. There is very little chance that they're going to win this fight, and no way they'll be able to escape quietly. She tries to remember what she knows about air elementals and their weaknesses.

Paldo Greenspan |

The image of Paldo's nice warm hearth finally fades away as he realizes Linge is rousing him from his sleep. "Attack?! What? Who?" He whispered, just as he heard the raspy voice.
A shiver ran down his spine. Startled, Paldo cast a spell on himself disappearing from sight.

Since they're magical creatures, I would guess it's Knowledge (arcana), but I can roll a Knowledge (nature) as well...

Sigrun Barstad |

outsider, actually (think plane of air) - knowledge (planes). same with the mephit I think.
"Well, I guess that's not a bird." Sigrun groans as she peers out of the cave. "Do we fight?"
I'm assuming we didn't rest long enough to refill abilities and spells?

Linge Hagebak |

Good point! Too bad I don't have that one :(
"We might get quickly overpowered," Linge hurriedly whispers back.

Garran Oakthorn |

Garran gives up on donning his armor. There is no time. ”Surrender yourself!” Garran shouts back. He seizes the symbol of Iomedae on it’s neck cord, and prays for support from his goddess. casts bless.+1 to hit.

GM My Black Midnight |

no, not really enough time ot don armor. part of the danger of an encounter at night!
Paldo vanishes from view and Garran calls upon the blessing of his deity to aid his allies.
Linge and Sigrun spend a moment trying to decide how to proceed.
Linge and Sigrun, do you want to do anything with your round 1 initiative, or are you delaying until the creatures out there do something first?

Sigrun Barstad |

delay is fine by me, nothing I can do at this stage

Linge Hagebak |

Linge transfers some of the magic she has left to Garran, and orders Horn to protect himself.
Casting Guidance on Garran. Since Linge and Horn won't be able to do much, they'll adopt a Total Defense posture (AC +4)
