Dalinar spends most of his time in his room as he is still uncomfortable cruising through space. He may also be hiding from all the squox onboard since they seem to enjoy his company more than he enjoys theirs.

After receiving a message he walks over and opens his door, "Certainly Freen." Dalinar stands aside and motions for Freen to enter.

Response to Freen:

Rush clicks in response. "Pain.. Much Pain.."

LINGSTON chimes in. "Answer: Unfortunately we don't know where his home is. It could be the Akchios where the Wrikreechee originated, but it could be anywhere. Informative Recollection: Some years back, Rush was an experiment under the scalpel of the Corpse Fleet. They were devising a way to create deadly viruses and drugs to infest water planets. He was the test subject for a 'RUSH VIRUS'. The Exo-Guardians who rescued him could not find any records on him, so thats what he was called. The Skyfire Legion is the first clue to his past we have had in a long time."

Minos will spend most of his time at the Science and navigation station. He seems spend a lot of time just watching the "stars" go by. Every now and then something curious would catch his attention and he would take some notes and readings.

When asked about them he smiles. "Maybe its message from Ibra. Or is just a mass of gas or star or something more mundane. Triune's gift makes Ibra's questions more fascinating to discover"

At other times he see something and then go readjust the squox habitrails saying something to the effect. "Testing an idea. Change a path and what new connects are truly made. Not just one that is first apparent."

@Freen:

"Recently Absalom station. I was also born there. But been to many places in between. As to a home?" He looks to his tool bag and the squox in his horns. "Anywhere. The universe is a big place. But it is interesting how close two point can actually be."

Freen notices that the clasp on Minos's toolbag is brass and tungsten symbol of Ibra.

Then with a half wry smile. "And what connections have you found about our fellow crew so far? There is of course Charli and Cedona, but I see that you are searching as well. As I among the stars, you search among the people. "

Despite Freen common appearance of nervous and awkward, it seems that his appearance now is much more relaxed. He does not look around nervously. Also, he does not seem to speak softly after he enters. Though he does stay near the door a little awkwardly.

"I am sorry to bother you, but you seem to spend much of your time here" Freen says conversationally. "Also it seems like you are averse to talking about yourself in crowded situations, which I understand. But, if I may...where are you from that gives you such shame or aversion?"

"Umm..sure..," he says hesitantly. "Prosper, you seem to act much younger than you appear, why is that?" Freen's question, though excessively blunt, does seem very sincere.

Rush:

Freen's voice responds very empathetically, "Oh..that sounds awful. How long ago was his rescue?"

Minos:

Free looks down abashedly, "Oh...well I...prefer to talk to people one on one I guess. I am more comfortable in those situations I suppose." He then looks up to Minos. "Why do you like Ibra so much?"

"Like is an odd way of putting it. It is more of that we share mutual ideas of the universe. I was introduced to their teachings when I spent a few months on the Idari. They needed one of their hydroponic systems fixed, but since the original Katashas parts were no longer available, I used my knack to create "new" parts. Turns out that a vesk music orb can make a wonderful sonic hydro ionizer. Granted they needed a cube, so I had also figure out how to fit a 20 cm sphere in a 15 cm box. Suffice to say the local scholars were quite impressed. So over some Charli's Akiton Red we discussed the Inscrutable. It was not that I converted, but found that I was already there."

Minos picks up the snoring squox curled on ins lap to put in its nest. Then talking to two wee creature. "The other advantage is that many people easily accept that a follower of Ibra is a mad goat and tend to leave them to their own devices."

Sorry for delay. That will teach me to believe Paizo when it tells me there are no new posts :-(

@Freen
"Certainly, please come in"

During the trip, Wint would definitely spend some time familiarizing himself with how the ship handles (ie, piloting it towards some of the drift things). No mechanical benefit, obviously.

He would also spend lots of time making sure that the ship is absolutely spotless, including everybodies personal quarters. He'd tidy everybodies locker, make sure their guns glean, the sword is polished, etc etc. He only rarely puts things back in the wrong place and would NEVER use the wrong polish on a gun (well, hardly ever. Well, only once or twice).

He takes charge at all meals and cooks up quite good meals considering the limited facilities. He definitely tries to cook something that everybody will like, or will tailor his creations for individuals as necessary. Yes, that probably takes HOURS a day :-).

He plays with the squox, of course. He actually IS (really) very, very careful to make sure none of them get hurt when he is cooking, closing the galley to make sure they do not end up in a blender, on the stove, etc.

He takes what time remains to talk to people, trying to get a feel for who they are (not what they can do, who they are).

"What is the Skyfire Legion? Are they brave adventurers who will save the galaxy from the Vesk?"

Others talking to him will realize that Wint is quite afraid of Vesk and thinks them an evil race.

Under threat from the Corpse Fleet, if I did not maintain their vitals, my programming would be purged. I was linked into Rush's health when the raid happened and the rest were disconnected."

"Grim Confirmation: None of the others made it. If I were disconnected from Rush, my programming would be purged, and he would not survive for very long. Vice versa, if his vitals failed and he were to die, my programming would be terminated."

"Assurance: In a way, I have grown fond of Rush, and find it not too hard to help him in his life. Utilizing some of the experiments to adjust his adrenaline and combat prowess or capabilities. One thing we discovered is he has that bone blade based on a mutation caused by the experimentation he can call upon if he needs it."

"Thafs probably 'cosh I'm-" he swallows the candy with a happy wince. "That's probably cos I'm younger than I look. What do you think of this appearance, beautiful huh?" He flips his hair and strikes some intense, manly poses, before erupting into a grin.

"How about you, I've been hearing you going from person to person on the ship. Are you like, an undercover reporter? Or is this a secret episode of Stellar Survivor, that we've all been roped into?" He passes Freen another grilled iguana-skewer.

Book 1, Part 1. Nakondis Under Siege

The Teapot exits the Drift above the misty and well-forested colony world of Nakondis. It’s an exciting time. Finally, you’ll be able to get off this tight little ship and stretch your legs planetside again! It’s time to make your delivery to Madelon's Landing and meet up with your friend Cedona. As soon as you arrive in orbit, however, your ship's sensors immediately alert you to hostile starships in the area.

Bleeeeeeeeet! Bleeeeeeeeeet! Proximity alert! Proximity alert! Potential hostile ships detected!

The little squox kits all dart everywhere in terror as they find hiding holes, and you all race to your stations to see what's happening outside. Indeed, two emerald green drones appear to be converging on your location. One has yellow fins, and the other blue.

DC 13 Engineering:
The drones appear to be automated vessels although the machines are of a design unknown to the Pact Worlds. You won’t know more until you scan them!

DC 20 Culture:

SHIP COMBAT TIME -- ROUND ONE

So this is the first time we’re doing ship combat in PBP. To speed things up, everyone can post their rolls and actions! I would prefer it if you keep all your ship action fluff out of spoilers, but do your actual combat dice rolls under spoilers -- especially if the Captain has not posted yet.

I will be taking all your actions and weaving them in phase order into a ship combat summary narrative. Please note what ship role you’re performing this round. You can shift roles each round of combat if you choose to do so later!

Your conversations and summaries of what you did while on board the ship can continue during this time under Flex-Time spoilers if you would like.

Dalinar quickly closes the door to keep the squox out. He turns around to look for a suitable place the two can sit but stops dead as Freen begins speaking. Slowly he turns to face the human with a very dangerous looking visage. His mote begins flitting about in an agitated manner.

"Who are you that you think you may question me?! Did it not occur to you that I may not want to talk about my past at all?! Out with you!" Dalinar stalks towards Freen ready to throw him out physically if necessary.

Suddenly he stops, No, this is not how a man acts. Without giving Freen too much time to react Dalinar holds up a hand, "No, wait. You do have the right to ask. We are shipmates now afterall." Dalinar sighs before continuing, "I prefer if people don't know at all but the rumor mill always bests me. Yes, I was a prince. Was. My parents disowned me, though that is not the source of my shame nor the main reason I prefer it to be a secret. They are not good people and I am not proud of the half-orc they raised me to be. As you can see he still rears his head from time to time but I am trying to put that behind me. I don't like people to know because I do not want special treatment. Since everyone knows I will instead just demand you all act as though I'm just another half-orc onboard." The irony of ordering people not to defer to him seems lost on Dalinar. Or perhaps it's less of a royal decree than a strongly worded request.

Dalinar stands out of the way on the bridge eyeing the empty captain's chair. He starts at the sound of the alarm. "What the...already?" He looks around for something he can do to help but seems lost.

The fluff for this action is making an assumption based on things said IC. If it's inappropriate Spec let me know.

Dalinar notices that Spec doesn't seem much better off than he does. "You can do this Professor, you seem a smart fellow."

Minos's scan is quite successful! Because the drones are 1/4 tier, their tier is treated as zero for ship math, so the DC to scan the drones is 5! Not quite enough for the entire sheet, but pretty good!

More details on scanning:
With his 24, he gets the following pieces of information:

1. Basic Information: Living crew complement and ship classification, size, speed, and maneuverability.
2. Defenses: AC, TL, total and current Hull Points, total and current Shield Points in each quadrant, and core PCU value.
3. Weapon: Information about one weapon, including its firing arc and the damage it deals, starting with the weapon that uses the most PCU. Repeat this entry until all the starship’s weapons are revealed. There was only one weapon, so he also gets:
4. Load: Information about how the starship’s expansion bays are allocated and any cargo the starship might be carrying.

There may still be information that he has not gotten yet!

SUMMARY OF SHIP COMBAT -- ROUND ONE

ENGINEERING PHASE

Freen diverts power to the weapons!

HELM

Minos scans and discovers that the drones have a lot of speed, but no shielding. Wint flies evasively, taking the ship out of range of one of the two drones, and to the side of the other!

GUNS

Prosper is a little cocky about his experience with videogames, and just barely misses the blue drone! Dalinar encourages the nervous Professor Spec, who looks at the gun controls like they will bite him! But then Spec takes a deep breath!

I can do this. I can do this.

And he does! He hits the drone for four damage thanks to Freen's weapon boost!

Meanwhile, Rush looks down at the weapon controls, and they feel familiar somehow. Didn't he fire one of these once? With his AI Lingston's help, he concentrates and shoots!

Rush not only hits, but he does a crit!

Rush's Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6

And because the drone's crit threshold is only four, it gets two more critical effects from the combined damage of Rush and Spec's initial hits!

Critical Effect: 1d100 ⇒ 53 [Weapons Array]
Critical Effect: 1d100 ⇒ 2 [Life Support]
Critical Effect: 1d100 ⇒ 29 [Sensors]

EDIT: The special effect of these criticals on the azlanti drones by scenario fiat is extra hull damage!

The blue drone fires hopelessly into space, but cannot hit The Teapot!

Only another moment or so passes to let it sink in what Freen said before he bluntly speaks again, "So..uhh..about that mote. What does it do?"

Wint:

Despite Freen common appearance of nervous and awkward, it seems that his appearance now is much more relaxed. He does not look around nervously. Also, he does not seem to speak softly after he enters. Though he does stay near the door a little awkwardly.

"Umm..can you leave my room alone?" Freen says a little awkwardly.

BRIEF RETCON ABOVE!

The drones have a special that I missed. Apparently, when they take critical hits, they lose extra hull points instead of taking critical effects. That's what happens when a GM fails to read an entire stat block -- especially when that part of the stat block is on the next page. Oops.

Blue drone is at -16 hull points, and its weapon is not glitching!

Automated (Ex) An Azlanti orbital drone has no crew, though it has an on-board computer that can perform most crew actions. The on-board computer can perform pilot and gunnery actions as if it has a crew of two. When an Azlanti drone takes a critical damage effect, it instead loses 2 Hull Points.

The autodestruct system triggers when an orbital drone reaches 0 Hull Points. Starships in hexes adjacent to a starship as it autodestructs take damage equal to half the destroyed starship's maximum Hull Points, mitigated by shields.

Spec:

Freen hesitantly allows himself to be ushered to a seat. He will then look on with full interest as Spec speaks.

Tension seems to raise as Dalinar leans to block the door. However Freen raises his hand to the back of his head awkwardly and begins laughing. He rubs the hair on the back of his head as he speaks through chuckles, "Your noble stuff really has a strong hold on you doesn't it? I don't care that you are or were nobility. Though I have to admit, it is a bit concerning that we might have assassins after us because of you. Honestly my curiosity was a mostly in that last department. Most people who have an aversion or shame in their background have something like assassins or mercenaries hunting them down. I've been on a lot of ships, man. A part of a lot of crews. At this point, I just prefer to know if, when, or where I have to hide."

Freen is obviously hoping that helped diffuse the situation, though it does sound sincere.

Okay, solarian and his past will probably not bother us. Though good to know to keep an eye out.
