Redwool Swamp

The sun nears mid-afternoon in the misty, murky swamp as the group approaches the lair of the lizard folk. The swamp is stinky. The water is not as deep as normal, with the water reaching only one foot deep -- nearly up to the knees of Tasya, Avri, and Harelow. Riding atop Harelow, Pixy finds she's totally dry, while the water is just barely deep enough for Hopwil to swim through. He can submerge himself fully if he wants, or swim with just his eyes and nostrils sticking out.

Rocks stick up out of the brown water here, along with fallen trees, heaps of mud, piles of soggy ground, and stinky bushes. Trees are common, but far apart. The water is warm, and bits of mud and algae float in it. The ground under the water is deep, sucking mud that pulls your feet down a few inches so your shoes are covered in it. There's a lot of bugs buzzing around you, some land to bite, but most just swarm, getting into your ears, nose, eyes, and mouth.

Further ahead you see a particularly large mound, nearly eight feet high. One side features a soggy looking tunnel that leads down into the mud mound. Beside this entry tunnel is a large, muscular lizardfolk. He leans against the mud mound with a shield strapped to one arm and a club sticking out of the mud beside him. In his hand, instead of his weapon, he holds a half-eaten frog, which he nibbles and chomps on hungrily. Behind this mud mound are a few other mounds of stone and mud sticking up out of the ground. It looks like some kind of half-flooded, underground complex.

Pixy rides on the back of Harelow. They sneak forward silently and quickly hide behind the nearest tree. They approach from behind, just like Hopwil.

Deciding to stick with the others, Tasya trudges through the mud as best as she can, in front of Pixy so as to shield her from harm.

Seeing the lizardfolk ahead she chants an ancient word of power that calls upon the heroes of old to empower her in battle. Casting heroism on herself: +2 morale bonus on attacks, saves, and skills for 60 minutes.

"Well, it looks like we've found the lair of the lizardfolk. Hopwil's friends gave us wonderful directions. Shall we, everyone?"

The group sneaks into position and prepares themselves for battle. Avri draws a spiral in the air as he prays to his goddess, Pharasma. The lizardfolk shudders in surprise and starts to turn around, looking unharmed. But, the group has the jump on him!

Leaping into battle, Pixy's cheetah and Harelow tear into the lizardfolk with tooth and claw, drawing blood from the surprised foe. Hopwil fires an arrow that strikes the enemy right in the middle of the back! Valcoono swoops into the fray at his master's command but doesn't manage to harm the thick-skinned lizardfolk. Tasya, off balance from the mud mound and swamp, ends up striking the lizardfolk's tough hide armour. With a hiss of rage he grabs his club and swings it wide, but his wounds seep blood at the motion, and he's unable to get any power behind the swing.

Under the vicious assault of our heroes, the lizardfolk falls to the ground dead... It's still for a moment, and hard to hear if anything is going on inside the mud mound. Meanwhile, Pixy's spell finishes, and a magical creature of her choice appears in the air!

Pixy can choose her summoned creature type. Also, decide if you're heading right into the mound or doing something else first. Anything you do outside will cut down time on your current active spells.

Avri and Tasya lead the way through the large hole in the mud mound, getting covered in muck, and stinking mud. The hole opens up into a large stone chamber, clearly the remains of some ruin that since has fallen into the swamp. The mud has become so caked onto the walls and ceiling that it's incredibly hard to tell what kind of stonework was originally used to create this place. Whatever it is, it's not a natural cavern, but -- taken over as it has been by the swamp -- it almost looks like it could be. Inside the mud mound the floor and walls are incredibly slippery, and the brown, murky water is hip deep on both Avri and Tasya. Mold and fungus grows along the walls, algae floats on the warm water's surface, and various swamp plant and bugs fill the water, just as it did outside. There's slightly less bugs flying around inside the mud mound than there were inside, but it's also dark which makes it harder for most of the group to see.

Every movement in the water makes ripples and waves in the enclosed space of the mud mound, and echoes loudly through the chamber.

Across the room from the entrance Avri and Tasya can see two other exits from this room.

A small water elemental shaped like a round ball with bunny ears and a drippy tail appears in front of Pixy! She rides Harelow right into the mud mound after her dad!

Following Pixy and Harelow, the group finds themselves clambering up a muddy slope that opens up into a large chamber. It looks to be some kind of common room, with mud, grass, and reeds formed into makeshift, muddy furniture. Although damp, the water here is shallow -- only a few inches deep. The ground below the water is solid, with hard stones under the water, instead of unsteady sucking mud. Three lizardfolk are here. One sits on a muddy chair in the centre of the room, munching on a fish. One lays in the corner of the room, reclining as he reads a book by candlelight on a reed and mudbrick lounger, and a third crouches over a pool of surprisingly clean looking water.

As the group enters the room with their light sources, all three lizard folk hiss and snarl, clearly aware of your presence and ready to fight!

Angry and upset, the red lizard folk leaps to his feet and viciously attacks the spiritual weapon. Doing nothing. This only seems to make him angrier... Meanwhile, the yellow lizarfolk stalks forward and attacks the fish thief! Much to his shock Valcoono gracefully flies around his attacks.

Slowed by Pixy's magic, the lizardfolk is unable to dodge the cheetah's vicious jaws, although the water bunny misses completely. Meanwhile, Harelow nibbles on the red lizardfolk. In retaliation the green lizard folk lunges at the cheetah, tearing into her fur with a claw! With a whimper the cheetah backs up in shock, heavily wounded and bleeding all over the place. Luckily the lizarfolk is slowed, or you get the feeling he may have attacked with his other claws and his sharp teeth, as well! (Cheetah takes 15 damage from a critical hit and has only a few hp left)
