Ashton O'Callaghan |
"Whatever. You want to do your thing and you want to not tell us what it involved, you can do your thing. And you can do it without me," says Ashton, getting out of his chair and heading for the door.
Shut Someone Down: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 4) - 1 = 7
JJ, take the condition "Alone". And Ashton's aura has dimmed to the point it's almost imperceptible

JJ Williams |
JJ jumps around into Ashton's face. "Oh, like you've been totally forthright with everything involved? You don't have secrets? BS! I don't see why I have to justify myself to you."
Standing in front of the doorway, he looks back at everyone. "To any of you, honestly. I've done everything I can do be honest and open, I've done nothing but try to help everyone, and the things I can do just get treated like a crime against humanity. Well, I'm sick of it."
JJ goes for his bag. "I don't deserve to get treated like this. You don't want to be involved with me summoning demons? Fine, you don't have to be."
He heads out the door. "I'll figure it out on my own."
Ashton, for your middling shutdown, take "Beaten to the Punch." I really AM alone, now.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
Ashton says nothing; instead, he moves from the doorway with startling - but still mundane, he is an athlete after all - speed. He doesn't go for JJ - instead he goes for his bag, trying to grab it before JJ can.
I don't know if I need to roll for this or not.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
Lash Out: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7

Ashton O'Callaghan |
Ashton continues to pointedly ignore Xavier.
"It's not even your book, JJ. I think maybe it's time to give it back to Gavin."

JJ Williams |
"Wait, why aren't you.. Why are you ignoring him?" JJ's arm on the bag drops, as he looks between Xavier and Ashton. "Is there something.. WAS there something going on between you two?"

Ashton O'Callaghan |
"JJ. Give me the book so I don't have to take it from you."

neonblues |

Xavier grabs his own head with both hands. "Stop it! STOP IT, DAD!"
He screams. Xavier's entire head becomes surrounded by an aura of blue flame. All of the loose objects in the room rise about an inch off of their surfaces for a moment, and the room itself seems to shudder.
Then, abruptly, Xavier collapses into a face-down kneeling position. The room is still. The fire is gone. Xavier doesn't move.

Hayden Greenwood |

Hayden had been watching curiously, not feeling like this was anything she had to stop. Especially if this had actually gone to shirtless wrestling
"I'm sorry, 'Dad'? Is that what you said, X?"

Hayden Greenwood |

"Okay Jayj, are we willing to count the disappearing ball of fire as a lesson in maybe not messing with things without doing your homework first?"
Shut Down: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 4) - 1 = 6

Ashton O'Callaghan |
"See?" says Ashton, gesturing over to where Xavier had been just a moment ago. "Now we have a vengeful ghost with undefined magical powers that we have to deal with because you feel the need to give an open invitation to come visit to every demon in that book. When I told you to loosen up I was thinking more smoke some pot then demonology, by the way."
Shut Down: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 3) - 1 = 6

Hayden Greenwood |

"Wait, Ash, are you holding?"
"Might help with X too, if we're able to get him to calm down long enough to calm down."

Ashton O'Callaghan |
"I can't, the team gets drug tested. But I know some people," says Ashton. "But I'm not going anywhere until JJ gives me the book."

JJ Williams |
"Fine! If it's so important to you, have it!" JJ reaches into his bag, and hands Ashton the book, shoving it into the bigger man's chest.
"This is F$#king amazing." JJ pulls his back bag, and heads out the door.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
With that problem solved, Ashton closes his eyes and tries to put together the clues to figure out who Xavier's father might be. Obviously something to do with Gavin and Gavin's house...but what, exactly?
Gaze Into the Abyss: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 2) - 1 = 4
But he can't seem to put anything together.
"Okay. We need to figure out where Xavier went and who his father is. Best place to start would be Gavin's house, I think, since that's where we found him, but if anybody has any other ideas I'm all ears."

Deirdre Dawkins |

"Maybe we can use the spirit board to find Xavier? It still might be spiritually linked to him, or something."
Deirdre digs it out and focuses on it, trying to see a vision of the wayward ghost.
Gaze Into the Abyss: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 3) - 1 = 8
Not sure if this counts as going down the rabbit hole or not.

neonblues |

Yes, I'd say this counts as going down the rabbit hole.
As you stare at the Ouija board, the world around you seems to melt away for a moment and the letters seem to float up off of the cardboard. Waves of white-hot emotion seem to envelop you; you sense Xavier's rage, resentment and pain. Mentally fighting your way through the cacophony, you watch as the letters converge and contract, twisting themselves into a phrase printed on the outside of a red brick building: LAKESIDE NURSING HOME
Your phone buzzes; it's a pair of texts from Malphas.
Such ignorance. They do not deserve you.
Make them suffer.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
"You okay Deirdre? You having visions now?" says Ashton.
"Right, it's the best lead we have right now. So Lakeside? We don't know what Xavier can do or what he's planning and a rampaging ghost at a nursing home seems like a really bad idea, even for us," says Ashton as he stows JJ's - no, Gavin's book into his backpack. "I have no idea what we're gonna do about Casper the unfriendly ghost though."

JJ Williams |
JJ texts back to Malphas as he heads out of the hall: They took the book, sir. I'm done playing by their limits, but I can't just steal it back from my roommate, he'd know where it went. Is there another book I can find, or another way to find it again?
JJ gets outside, the brisk breeze reminding him about the.. violet.. departure of Xavier.
What do you know about Xavier's past? I do feel responsible for what happened, and I want to help him, but I also don't want anyone else to get hurt.

Hayden Greenwood |

Hayden sighed. "Okay, we can't let X get himself hurt. Or let him go too crazy. Bring the spirit board, Dee. If we need to do something drastic... Well, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."
"We should probably also bring some table salt I guess? I'm not really sure what else to prepare; once people are dead they usually don't have to worry too much about what they promised in life."

neonblues |

Malphas texts back: I'm afraid that particular book is unique. We will need to recover it, but that can wait for now.
As for Xavier, you needn't feel responsible for what happens next. The boy deserves his revenge.
Everyone else:
You look up the address for Lakeside Nursing Home; it isn't far from campus. You drive there and arrive outside the building; it matches Deirdre's vision perfectly.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
When they arrive at the nursing home, Ashton hops out of the car and starts to walk towards the door. As he approaches, he closes his eyes and tries to see if he can get a bearing on where Xavier's gone to - do ghosts have a scent? Would he have left a trail? Guess Ashton's going to find out.
2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 That's -1 if there's no moonlight for 5, +3 if there is for 9. My question: Where is Xavier?

Hayden Greenwood |

Hayden glances back and forth between Ashton and Deirdre, and just walks in.
"Yeah visions and spirit boards are good for some things, but I'm betting right now all we need to do is follow the screams..."

neonblues |

There's no moonlight at the moment for Ashton's ability, but it stands to reason that Xavier is headed here (if he isn't here already).
When you head inside of the nursing home, nothing seems to be amiss... until you notice Xavier standing in the hallway, staring into one of the rooms with a piercing, enraged gaze.
JJ:
You get another text from Malphas:
Your friends are headed to Lakeside Nursing Home. I would recommend going there to ensure they receive the comeuppance they deserve.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
Then I mark XP, I level up, and I'm going to take the growing up moves "Intervene in an Act of Violence" and "Share Your Pain"
The moment he sees Xavier, Ashton breaks into a sprint...and attempts to tackle Xavier.
Intervene against an act of violence: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 2 = 11

Hayden Greenwood |

Oh. Great. Way to leave us lots of options to escalate.
As Ashton careens into Xavier's new body, Hayden follows up after, eyes quickly scanning as she tries to see what Xavier's already done.

neonblues |

Hayden: When you look into the room, you see an elderly black man asleep in the bed inside. He appears unharmed thus far.
Ashton, you get to choose one of the following:
they take -2 to their roll (NPCs either act at a Disadvantage or fail entirely);
deal harm to them;
give them a Condition.
Xavier technically hasn't attempted violence yet but if you choose the first option, I'll say that Xavier's next attack (if he makes one) will fail.
JJ: You recognize the car outside the nursing home; it seems your friends are already here.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
Let's go number one then

Hayden Greenwood |

Hayden slips into the room, taking in the surroundings. Even banal as rooms like this are, often there are little touches that can reveal someone's true character. Pictures, books, how often are they visited, do their nurses hate them...
Gaze into the Abyss: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 1 = 8

neonblues |

As Xavier wrestles with Ashton, a puff of blue fire starts to appear in his hand but quickly fizzles out when Ashton slams his arm into the floor. Xavier snarls angrily. “Let me go! If you knew what he did to me...”
Some of the hospital staff seem to have noticed the commotion and are headed in your direction.
Hayden: As you look around the room, your fae senses form a series of mental images. Suspicious glares, revealed secrets, a screaming argument over a set of books and tarot cards hidden under the bed. The vision culminates with Xavier being pushed down a set of stairs by what appears to be a younger version of the man in the bed.

Ashton O'Callaghan |
"What? What did he do? You need to tell me. You can't keep hiding this!"

Hayden Greenwood |

"He killed him Ash. Why else would X be here? He killed him."
