K'Klacklun- |
"Most fascinating architecture." K'Klacklun remarks. "Perhaps we should just remain here and investigate?"
DoubleGold |
A petrified elf titan? He laughs. Nope, just a statue of a giant elf. If you want the history on it, I might be able to dig it up, no promises though.
As far as mercenaries, I don't know, but I'm providing you with some equipment and a drive part of the way there. It too dangerous to have vehicles in the forest past a certain point
He drives you there and leaves you ten miles from the outpost, and the temple of the twelve is 120 miles away, and you'll have to proceed on foot, you know it is hot around here. The place is filled with trees, vision is limited to 90 feet and the grass is four feet tall here.
Treasure lashunta ringwear II armor, a carbon steel curve blade, a stickybomb grenade II, 4 doses of tier-1 antitoxin, and 4 doses of sprayflesh. He can also supply 3 weeks’ worth of field rations to each PC, up to 100 credits’ worth of standard ammunition per PC.
You may have also purchased anything you need here.
Elene Berrnshaw |
I think Sonny is the only one who can take the ringwear. Pretty good upgrade. Same for advanced melee weapons? Elene can't use the curve blade, nor the grenade. And I hope we don't have to use the antitoxin or sprayflesh.
Elene takes a box of longarm ammunition, and purchases a spare battery as well as a heat-resistant suit.
Marked off 70cr spent.
Sonny Martel |
"I am happy to use this new armor, but this curve blade could be only of use for me as backup weapon. My defenses are stronger than this. "says proudly Sonny.
DoubleGold |
Okay, in the interest of keeping things moving, we will just assume you proceed on and are ready to. The heroes truck through the tall grass, after a few hours nothing happens. Then they encounter some Yaruk's. And they see some fungal Spores. Yaruk's are six-legged dinosaurs, they look like the brontosaurus Gargantuan animal, only they have curved horns and curved tusks, and their back is a little rough, it looks like inbuilt rocks, but they aren't. These dinosaurs aren't attacking, a few seem to notice you but they ignore you. Obviously you don't want to be too close to their legs, they might accidentally kick or step on you.Life science to know more about the fungal spores. Life science to know about the dinosaurs.
You are seeing all of this from 200 feet away. You can go around them, which takes a day, and you can go through them without getting within 30 feet of them, assuming they don't make sudden movements. You can climb a tree and see them up high, though athletics 20 to climb the trees tall enough to get to them. 1 check only. DC 20 Survival if you want to call them over and they will calmly come, but you must also be up in the tree at head level. You may stand there and count them, Perception 17 to spot and track all of them without losing count, hint there is way more than and handful of them.
Elene Berrnshaw |
Life Science spores: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Life Science dinosaurs: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Hey, these are Yaruks! Beautiful, ain't they? I know something about them...
Sonny Martel |
This is not my environnement. An aquatic creature like myself cannot climb or track.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
K'Klacklun- |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
K'Klacklun attempts to count the creatures, but gets distracted by his hover drone.
Used to working in sterile labs and well-maintained engineering spaces, the shirren has little to offer in the wilderness.
Elene Berrnshaw |
@GM, knowledge preferred is anything related to their behavior and how to make friends or avoid antagonizing them first, then special attacks, then normal attacks. Do they have a preferred food we might have on hand?
Hey, guys, these things look intimidating, and you defs don't want to get underfoot, but they just want to be left alone. If they don't think we're a threat we can go through them. My cousin Zooklah had one for a while as a pet on Akiton. Or was that a goat...?
DoubleGold |
To avoid antagonizing them, do not approach without them noticing you via sight. Ie. approach from the front or climb a tree and approach, etc. No favorite food, but they do eat plants, and you know they like these mushrooms. Special attack is Bulldoze/Trample.
Bulldoze (Ex) When a yaruk uses its trample ability,
it ignores difficult terrain created by plants. Each
inanimate obstacle in its path takes twice the yaruk’s
trample damage (inanimate plants take quadruple
damage), and if this would reduce the obstacle to half
its Hit Points or fewer, the yaruk can move through the
obstacle as though it were difficult terrain.
Trample (Ex) As a full action, a yaruk can move up to its
speed and through the space of any creatures that are
at least one size smaller than itself. The yaruk does not
need to make an attack roll; each creature whose space
it moves through takes 3d4+14 bludgeoning damage.
A target of a trample can attempt a DC 16 Reflex save
to take half damage; if it does, it can’t make an attack
of opportunity against the yaruk due to the yaruk’s
movement. A yaruk can deal trample damage to the
same creature only once per round.
Elene Berrnshaw |
I'm not sure how you would "climb a tree and approach", but that sounds like the tactic least likely to let us experience that trample attack first hand. Who's good at climbing? Athletics +5 Diplomacy +4 for me.
DoubleGold |
That is only if you want to make friends with them. You can also go right through the crowd without being with 30 feet of one at anytime and they won't be provoked. Of course you are banking on the fact that something doesn't set the whole heard off like a T-Rex, Volcano, implanted explosives, etc. You can also go around them.
Elene Berrnshaw |
I think I can make them friendly. You have to start on their level. Somebody give me a boost...
Aid Another might be helpful.
Athletics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Elene whistles and clicks her tongue, trying to make friends with the giant beasts.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Somebody hand me up some food. Mushrooms preferred.
Aid Another?
K'Klacklun- |
K'Klacklun produces some field rations and hands it to the ysoki.

Elene Berrnshaw |
Elene is female, BTW.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
DoubleGold |
Not only do you count thirty of them, The nearest one is fifty feet away, but 220 feet away somebody has a sniper rifle point towards the dinosaurs, or maybe you, it is so far away you can't tell exactly where it is pointed, but it looks like he want to shoot one in the head. If that somebody fires, and hits the dinosaurs, it will set them off, as one will cry out in pain, they will all start stampeding, towards you, cause they don't know any better. You can tell this person is a Shirren and maybe even a cultist.
Elene Berrnshaw |
Elene calls down this information to the party.
Does anyone have a sniper rifle?
@GM, do I think I have any chance of stampeding the herd toward the sniper? Feel free to roll for me if a roll is required.
DoubleGold |
It is 220 feet from Elene to that sniper in terms of three dimensional space, Elene climbed up a 30 foot tree. He is on a mountain 80 feet up, which you'd have to climb up the mountain, fly there or go up the winding mountain trail. You also think the sniper rifle may have a silencer on it, so sound would be blocked but they'd cry out in pain. And it would be very hard to get the dinos to stampede towards him, even if you could, they could never reach him and would be too big to fit on that trail.
Elene Berrnshaw |
Does anyone have a sniper rifle?
D'oh! I have a sniper rifle.
Elene takes aim at the sniper.
Tactical Shirren Eye Rifle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Elene Berrnshaw |
Elene takes satisfaction that her shot hit its mark. She climbs down quickly.
Let's move. I don't know where that sniper went or when they'll come back, but they're gone for now.
Unless prevented, she sets off through the herd, keeping at least 30 feet from the nearest critter at all times when possible.
K'Klacklun- |
"It would seem that someone was expecting us!" K'Klacklun notes in sudden revelation and alarm. "We should keep moving and pray to the Forever Queen that the shooter does not return."
The drone chirps and then heads toward the lumbering dinobeasts. The shirren shrugs and then follows.
Sonny Martel |
"I am sure, we will meet this professional again in the future.
He could be the assassin in fact." says with seriousness Sonny.
DoubleGold |
The heroes do manage to get by the dinosaurs without disturbing them. If this was strictly SFS style, there would be no room for flexibility, like you ain't suppose to see the shooter before he shoots and this would turn the dinosaurs chasing you with skill checks to make or you take damage. But this is a bit of a Sandbox mode. Going around the dinosaurs would have added a day to the travel, and that is an option in SFS mode.
2 days into the travel. I hope you all brought food by the way, or you make survival checks to find food. DC 15 per day.
Stafinders reach an ancient stone bridge crossing one of the river tributaries that flows through the jungle. The bridge easily supports
the PCs, but once they are across, an angry yaruk pursuing them gets only a few steps across before collapsing the old elven architecture. The rest of the moot considers this the end of the chase, and the group gradually disperses after another minute of aggressive posturing. Beyond the bridge stands the landmark identified by Halkueem Zan as the Rune Obelisk.
The area surrounding the Rune Obelisk is uneven, where soil deposition and plant growth have covered most of the building foundations that surround the site. Even so, the stubborn trees that grow sparsely here have displaced many stones with their roots, leaving carved blocks scattered haphazardly around the area. Map is updated. The obelisk is the thing in the upper left hand corner
Elene Berrnshaw |
Heh. See, I told ya's! I got a cousin, back on Absalom, serves a mean yaruk stew. Or so he claims. I think it's rats and pigeons, personally.
Well, shall we go check out this "obelisk"?
Ready to move forward. I added her icon to the map.
GM Valen |
Putting away his field rations, K'Klacklun begins to follow the ysoki. "Yes, let us check out this obelisk. The architecture is most interesting." he says. As the shirren walks forward the drone follows him.
DoubleGold |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
