Discussion thread. Game runs from October 1 to November 12.
Some of you are coming from other tables I ran, whereas for some of you this is the first time I'll be running a table with you :)
Some ground expectations:
1. Pay attention to everything that the Overseer GM says. If they announce a condition of some sort, check for my follow-up post to describe what the effects of that condition are. I'll try to get those follow-ups out as soon as possible after the Overseer post.
2. Try to post at least once a day in order to keep things moving. If you are going to be unavailable for an extended period of time, please ensure that your deck handler is linked and available for other players, and provide instructions so that other players can bot your turn. I recommend putting the link in your alias Profile (put it in the Class line, and wrap it in the url tags so it turns into a link -- see "How to format your text" below the reply box for details on how to do that if you aren't sure)
3. Do not wait around for my scenario update posts, just base your turn around the most recent update plus what other players have done since then. I'll get a scenario update out once per day unless there is nothing to update. I'll have other (non-update) posts interspersed throughout the day as needs require.
4. There are no take-backs or retcons, with exception of invalid plays/turns. Use resources wisely, and keep in mind the other perks you get in Organized Play such as accessory re-rolls and die bumps.
Things that make gameplay smoother:
1. If a location is shuffled, you can continue to examine or explore cards in it by rolling a die to see which card you examine/explore. No need to wait on me to post an update first with the shuffled deck.
2. When encountering a card, be very explicit in what card you are encountering. This helps other players at the same location know where you left off so they don't accidentally encounter the same cards that you just got through and have to re-do their turn.
3. Use your Notes section to describe any cards or powers that can be used to assist other players on their turns and that you are willing to use. If you post that certain cards are available for use, state what the card does as well.
4. When something impacts another player (a power that affects all characters at your location, or you're playing one of their cards), bold that thing so that it stands out.
Things that make deck upgrades smoother:
1. Write a list of your 2-5 most desired deck upgrades, in order, and roll 1d1000 for each of them.
2. That will let us look through those lists and see how we can get everyone their #1 preferred upgrade without lots of times lost in back-and-forth. If people are fighting over an upgrade, the d1000 roll is used to determine who gets it (highest roll wins).
Hangouts: I'd like to start a hangouts chat for this campaign if everyone is on board. You don't have to do it if you don't want to, but it typically speeds things up. Please post and let me know if you'd be interested in joining it.

I will be bringing in Meliski for this. He has adventured with Harsk and Radillo for some time in Sandpoint and recently just met Seelah.
Recommended Turn order be the following:
Radillo, Harsk, Meliski, Seelah
Question: Is this considered some sort of adventure path for purposes of rewards we may or may not be able to use?
Note: Assuming successful in current scenario, Meliski will be getting skill feat.
Strength d8 [ ] +1 [ ] +2
Dexterity d6 +1 [ ] +2 [ ] +3
- Disable: Dexterity +2
Constitution d6 [ ] +1 [ ] +2 [ ] +3
Intelligence d6 [ ] +1 [ ] +2
Wisdom d6 [ ] +1 [ ] +2
Charisma d10 [x] +1 [ ] +2 [ ] +3
- Arcane: Charisma +1
- Diplomacy: Charisma +1
- Divine: Charisma +1
Favored Card: Your Choice
Hand Size: 5 [ ] 6
Proficient With: Light Armors
POWERS:
"When a character at your location would fail a check, you may recharge a card ([ ] or shuffle
it into your deck) to allow her to reroll 1 die ([ ] or 2 dice). She must take the second result."
"On your first exploration each turn, you may encounter the bottom card of your location
deck instead of the top card. ([x] Then you may shuffle the location deck.)"
Liberty's Edge Reward
[ ] [ ] Freedom Fighter (Liberty’s Edge Faction Reward): After you roll on your Charisma check, Diplomacy check, or check attempted before you act, check a box that precedes this reward to add or subtract 1 die; take the new result. You may use this reward up to 2 additional times if you fulfill the following requirements. When you fulfill the requirement, check the box that precedes it; when you use the reward, cross that line off.

[X] Succeed at a Charisma or Diplomacy non-combat check to defeat a villain or a henchman.

Meliski Tier Advancement: N
Acknowledged regarding adventuring restriction between scenarios...how.many scenarios are there?

![]() |

After reading the description more closely, it sounds like 5 scenarios but only A and B are only ones accessible for the time being with C1, C2, and D available later.
Question: Should we be soliciting what other tables are doing to make sure gathering resources and combat are being properly presented? Is there a discord channel being used for chatter with the other card and rpg tables?
My current preference is to start with B mainly due.to the fact the scenario we are currently undertaking is more resource focused (2-2B).

BR skizzerz |

There are 5 scenarios in total.
You'll have time to play each at least once (most likely) and chances are you'll play a few of them more than once depending on how fast we go through them. A, B, C2, and D are repeatable. C1 only happens once.
There isn't an overall channel I'm aware of, but you can follow the other tables by looking at their threads linked in the signup sheet. In terms of divvying up where you're starting to get even representation, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Part 2 (scenarios A and B) run from 10/2 to 10/19 (17 days), so with standard completion times most tables will get through each of them exactly once. Fast tables may squeeze in a repeat before time runs out.

Seelah - notshown |

I also vote for Scenario 9–00B, for the same reasons Meliski stated.

Seelah - notshown |

Seelah will decline tier advancements.

Maznar - PuntNScoop |

Whatever scenario others decide on is fine. I will play for tier advancement.

![]() |

Meliski chooses Dark Archive for adventure choice.

BR skizzerz |

Initial setup is up. I got the impression that you wanted to tackle the Dark Archive objective on the Hangouts, so I prepped that one. For turn order, I just sorted it alphabetically by character name :)
Please post in the Gameplay thread with your starting location and opening hand. Play will begin October 2nd.

![]() |

Based on location powers, I recommend we all start at guardian vault. The closing is harsh so ideally want to have Harsk to ruined temple next as he is the only non-divine character we have.
With respect to turn order, we had it posted earlier in discussion when we had wizard. Can we have it be Harsk, Seelah, Meliski, Maznar? If we need to have the blessings updated to reflect that on the next BR refresh than that should be fine.

![]() |

I will not take a Tier Upgrade and stay at Tier 2.
I am OK with the turn order Meliski posted.

Boon Roll: 1d20 ⇒ 9 :P
I'm interested in the Remove Curse spell. With a hand size of 6, I'm most likely to have it available.
I will accept tier advancement for this scenario.

![]() |

Seelah, just to be clear..you must choose tier advancements for not just this scenario but for all scenarios for this adventure.
Meliski will take the game of afterlife unless someone else wants to use. I am fine with Seelah taking remove curse spell for the whole adventure.
Need to determine deck upgrades if any before posting hand, but Meliski will start at Smoking Den.

Seelah - notshown |

I am taking the Item (B) for my deck upgrade. I'll take the Portable Alter (Item B), and drop the Banner (Item B).
I'll take the reward, temporarily replacing my only spell with Remove Curse.
Contrary to my last post, I will decline tier advancements. Final answer.

For this scenario I will temporarily swap out riffle scrolls for Game of Afterlife.

For the curious, here's how all of the rules shake down for that Shrieking Plant encounter:
First up, the text of the card:
When you examine this card, succeed at a Stealth of Survival 9 check or the Shrieking Plant is undefeated.
If undefeated, examine the top 3 cards of your location deck and encounter the first monster you find. Then banish the Shrieking Plant.
We also have Vizier's Hill to contend with:
If you fail a check to defeat a barrier, shuffle a random barrier from the box into this location.
So, you examined the plant and attempted (and failed) the check. As this was not a check to defeat, nothing happens due to the Hill power and you just examine the top 3 cards. This is what should have happened, but I foolishly didn't actually look carefully enough at how all the powers interacted with each other at the time.
To give an idea of timing in the other case (aka what I had us do), let's assume that we encounter the plant instead of examining it; i.e. we explored and came across Shrieking Plant as the top card. It was not examined, so the first power has no effect. We then go through the steps of an encounter:
1. Apply Any Effects That Happen When You Encounter a Card. Nothing to do here.
2. Apply Any Evasion Effects. Nothing to do here.
3. Apply Any Effects That Happen Before You Act. Nothing to do here.
4. Attempt the Check. This is where we attempt the check to defeat. Let's assume we failed the check for the sake of example. Vizier's Hill power kicks in right here, so we shuffle a random barrier from the box into this location. The Hill power applies here because its wording of "If you fail a check to defeat a barrier" -- it doesn't care about the overall encounter status, it cares per check. This also means that if a barrier had 2 checks to defeat (e.g. Wisdom Survival 8 THEN Constitution Fortitude 8) and you failed both checks, there would be 2 barriers shuffled into the location.
5. Attempt the Next Check, If Needed. Nothing to do here.
6. Apply Any Effects That Happen After You Act. Nothing to do here.
7. Resolve the Encounter. This is where the card is declared defeated or undefeated, and any powers that operate on defeated/undefeated kick in. So, since we failed the check to defeat, it's undefeated and we examine the top 3 cards and encounter the first monster we find.
We examine cards one at a time (in that if card 1 has a trigger, we have to deal with that trigger before looking at what card 2 or card 3 are). The first card we come across is a monster that has a trigger which forces us to encounter it. Shrieking Plant also tells us to encounter it as it's the first monster we find. The rulebook says the following on the matter:
If a card allows you to examine a card and then encounter it, and the card you examine says that when you examine it, you encounter it, encounter it only once.
So, we encounter it only once. The card we encountered (Scarab Swarm) also has us shuffle unless we either have the Fire trait on our check or we beat it by at least 4. Let's assume we don't (so it shuffles back in). The rulebook tells us the following about this as well:
If anything would cause you to shuffle the deck while you are examining cards, shuffle the deck only after you put the cards back.
We need to shuffle, but we don't do that just yet. We instead now look at card 2 and card 3, resolving any triggers on them. These cards didn't have triggers, so we put them back. Then we banish Shrieking Plant (now that we're done examining cards), and then shuffle the location deck (per Scarab Swarm).
