Erlandel

"Hey. There's some cloth down there," pointing down into the pit. Erlandel casts Detect Magic and looks down again...
Is it just an empty pit or are there spikes or something?
Erlandel
|
"Hey everyone, that cloth down there is magical. Perhaps after everyone gets across, we could lower someone that is small and light down to get it. What does everyone think?"
Shayhal
|
"If the floor of the pit is safe, I can drop down then fly back up?" the winged humanoid offers, making to do this thing if given the go-ahead.
Shayhal will fly down if there are no objections, then fly back up after retrieving the bundle.
Kothrin Shadowstone

Having secured the rope, Kothrin begins to climb across the pit.
Athletics(untrained): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
"Blasted gods!" he shouts as his grip slips and he falls into the pit.
| Delgren Shadowstone |
Delgren looks down into the pit and shakes his head pitiably. "Never took him exploring enough as a child, that one."
I'll update the phantom stats onto Delgren later when I have a bit more time.
Kothrin Shadowstone
|
Kothrin groans on the bottom of the pit. "Can ye' fly me out of here, by any chance?"
Heraclitus Ourobouros
|
"Need help?" Heraclitus calls down to Kothrin. "I may be on my way down there in a moment..."
He takes off his armored coat (a move action), packs it away, and concentrates a moment before attempting to make his own way across.
Acrobatics, guidance: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
"...on second thought, why don't you come up here? It's nice," He quips as he puts his coat back on.
Shayhal
|
The winged woman doffs her backpack, her polearm, and looks down into the pit.
"Depends on how much you weigh. If you and your gear is more than a hundred and fifty pounds, I'm not going to be able to generate enough lift to get you out. If you need to leave your pack or anything down there to get your load down I can take two trips?" Shayhal offers bluntly.
Shayhal will be at Medium load if Kothrin is 96# or less, or Heavy load at 155# or less. Otherwise, other means will need to be employed. Assume this to be permission given to do this action in the event of action moving forward when I am unable to post at work tomorrow.

Kothrin makes his way out and nods to Erlandel. "Thanks! Well, that was an adventure." He glances down further into the cave. "Ready to move on, then?"
| Delgren Shadowstone |
Delgren shakes his head. "Pathetic," he mutters as he drifts ephemerally a bit away from Kothrin.
Shayhal
|
Shayhal chastizes the spirit a bit, because something about it's attitude is driving her up a wall as she re-equips her gear and adjusts her pack.
"Hey. We're a team. We work as one. I don't see your help to Kothrin so start to do more than he has."
"I do not know how to see such things. It looks well made." She finally offers to Elrandel.
| Yoon - Iconic Kineticist |
”This place is really exciting! Of course it was not that dangerous to cross the pit see that we now found something magical! I’m really excited about the next steps and those gillmen! Let’s go!“ Yoon says excited.
Shayhal
|
The winged person points to Yoon with a thumb, then smirks.
Leave it to the human hatchling to know more than the old dead dwarf spirit. Wait... maybe that's why the dwarf is dead...
"SHE gets it. Can you do less?" There's a slight pause. "We good to go?"
Kothrin Shadowstone
|
Kothrin shakes his head negatively at Elrandel. "If it were stone, gem, or glass, I'd likely be able to tell you more, but fine clothwork is not my area, I'm afraid. I've not studied much in the lore of spells ... my gifts are more of an ..." He glanced ruefully toward Delgren. "Well, more of an inheritance, I suppose."
| Delgren Shadowstone |
Delgren says, "Care for me to try it on? Worse that can happen, even if it's cursed, is that I go ... elsewhere ... and the cloak falls to the ground. Not like it can strangle me or anything."
Shayhal
|
"See! Not so hard to help out!" Shayhal notes with a brisk encouraging tone while watching the rest of the party and then craning her head back and forth to watch the passageway in both directions.
| Yoon - Iconic Kineticist |
Yoon looks a little bored now.
”You grown-ups really take ages to take decisions! So I will have to lead this adventure with my big friend here!“ Yoon says and she points at her stuffed owl-bear.
She starts walking as fast as she can.

The tunnels continue on, leading deeper beneath the Kortos Mounts until they eventually open into a large cavern. What must have once been beautifully carved reliefs and inscriptions have since weathered heavily, their features dulled and softened to the point that it is hard to distinguish what each once depicted. A wide tunnel exits the cavern on its far side, and blue-burning torches line the passageway’s walls.
If you spend some time to study these, a Knowledge (history or religion) or Linguistics can gain you more information. The writing combines Aquan and Azlanti, and you may receive a +2 bonus on his skill check for each of these languages you can understand.

Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
I do not have either language.
Eralndel studies the carvings and shares any information he may learn as he starts to record the images as best he can.
In previous times through, Janira gave up supplies at the beginning to record what we see/experience/etc. Was that just the GM's decision or is that part of the Module?

Linguistics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Kothrin examines the writing. "It's Elven to me ..." he mutters.
Heraclitus Ourobouros

"What'd you find?" Inquires Heraclitus, who the others find apparently having already made it to this cavern without them. He turns about and takes a good look at the cloak.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
"Ah, a treasure for every traveler, if I'm not mistaken! They're supposed to protect the wearer from the many misfortunes of the road: The adder's bite, the pox, runaway wagons, the errant stroke of lightning, the tavern's temptations, the witch's wiles, you name it."
"Any grabbers?" He asks as he dons it for himself and eyeballs the none of the others to need it more than he does.
As luck would have it, I appear to have the s%%+tiest saving throws of any of us.
He then turns back to the inscriptions....

Shayhal

The winged person shrugs as discussion about the cloak happens, and takes notes on the various glyphs and whatnot that are present. I'm not getting in the middle of a 'human' debate about who should get what, it's part of what they use to take everything from everyone else.
Even if she doesn't know what they are about, maybe someone else will?
"Yoon? Your 'big friend' is not that large. Do they stand in for a ghost?" Shayhal inquires thoughtfully during her documentation.
| Yoon - Iconic Kineticist |
”Shayhal, they always are as big as you imagine them to be!“ Yoon says with a sly smile.
Shayhal
|
The winged woman takes a look around for anything that might be pertinent to help the team. She'll try to stay out of the 'light bubble' that the party emanates, as sometimes there are things that light can hide.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 8 +2 if this would be considered dim light or darkness, or if she can move to a spot that could be considered such.
Erlandel

Erlandel had cast Light on his longbow upon entering the cave. That is why he was waving it above the pit while he was looking down to see the contents/bottom. Sorry if I am ruining your plans.
Shayhal
|
Nah, just potentially hosing any aid efforts Shayhal can provide. All good.
| Yoon - Iconic Kineticist |
”I know that we are explorers and that we want to find out what all this is about but maybe we have to admit that we have no idea! So can we please continue now?!?“ Yoon says a little bored.

Slide 1
The carvings here are different in style from the petroglyphs found elsewhere in the caves.
Deciphering the images and writing is difficult because of their eroded state; Your party is able to determine what four of these petroglyphs mean or say.
The Hunter is depicted slaying a giant serpentine creature and then parading a trophy through the city streets—a sign to all humanity that the wilds are safe to inhabit once the monsters are slain.
The Shepherd is depicted herding animals out of a crowded city to the pastures beyond, just as Aroden blessed leaders with the foresight to direct people to the tasks and places that best suit them.
The Farmer is depicted plowing four lines in a field, retelling Aroden’s prophecy that humankind would prepare the rocky earth for planting and over generations wear the pebbles down into fertile soil.
Finally, the Thief is depicted stealing a gem from a shop while whispering a prayer, an allusion to a passage saying that larceny—though illegal—is a form of praise, for anything worth stealing is also worthy of praise for its craftsmanship.
The three of you believe that these inscriptions are the part of the History of Future of Humanity, the principle holy text of Aroden. You also identify that the sections of the holy text depicted are slightly different than those that appear in the known version of the History and Future of Humanity, suggesting that these might represent an earlier version of the work.
The soft light of the surrounding fungus mixes with the flickering glow of the nearby torches to reveal a grand chamber. A large pool of water along the chamber’s southern edge reflects the blue and green radiance to illuminate the massive stalactites that cling to the ceiling overhead. Two other tunnels branch off from this area, leading to the east and west.
Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
Here the cavern’s ceiling stretches 20 feet overhead and is crowded by dozens of stalactites, some measuring 10 feet long from base to tip. Despite the impressive geology, the cave’s focus is the sloping, 15-foot-deep pool and its tiny city.

You all also see, what appears to be a lone gillmen kneeling low in the water watching you.
What would you like to do?

Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
...Erlandel sees the gillman and steps forward and clears his throat quietly...
"Greetings. My friends and are mean you no harm. We are explorers and are seeking knowledge of this cave system and it's contents. My name is Erlandel. May I ask you yours?"
Kothrin Shadowstone

Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Kothrin is mesmerized by the ancient inscriptions. He gets to the part about the thieving and leans in closer, then glances toward Delgren. "Don't think this is a dwarf, or else this could be you ..."
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
He does not appear to notice the gillman, and starts a bit in surprise as Elrandel begins speaking to someone.
| Delgren Shadowstone |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Delgren cares little about the inscriptions and, ever more vigilant, catches sight of the gillman. He moves to hide himself, so as not to startle the poor guy.

The gillmen slowly stands up as you approach and address him. He nods confused as you speak.
He does not respond to Erlandel.
