The air is filled with an icy voice that penetrates the silence as the selected marines walk into the briefing room. "Hello, My name is Inquisitor Roth and you are of service to me" the voice seethes.

Personal History:
Fabian served with the 5th Company for half of a century. His service record is an impressive one. His captain n has only ever had good things to say about the invaluable Apothecary. His last mission saw hi. Come face to face with a *deleted by Chapter Master Azrael* which he slayed in single combat. After the mission, he had many questions for his Company Master, all of which he was told could not he answered.
Upon returning to The Rock, Fabian was meet by Chapter Master Azrael and Chief Librarian Ezekiel, what followed is known only to those two men. Fabian remembers not what happened at that meeting, nor does he remember what happened on his last deployment with the 5th company. After his meeting, Fabian was ordered to head to the Jericho Reach to join the Deathwatch. His orders where very specific, Serve the Deathwatch to the best of his ability and keep an eye out for any *deleted by Chapter Master Azrael*. Brother Fabian is enroute to the Jericho Reach.

Male Zombie Gamemaster

Brother Solar, Brother Fabian, Brother Yngvar, Brother Raziel, and Brother Dunmore all await their orders from Inquisitor Roth aboard the
Armageddon. Inquistor Roth stares down at the hulking giants not with fear or awe as most normal mortal men but almost bored as if the giants were annoying little dogs that followed his footsteps.

"I have a mission for you on a planet called Caldries" the inquisitor says. The inquisitor was a almost fully augmented man historical documents describe him as a big well built person. But what you see is quite the opposite he is very skinny almost elder-like. However documents also say he chose this form as to have more agility potential and to not appear so intimidating as to reveal things about him. "The mission is detailed in the briefing room" he speaks with dismissive wave of his hand"

Background briefing:
A settlement is under constant attack from strange creatures. They drag civilians out of the towns and back into the harsh death world jungle. To further complicate things the residents do not wish us to send aid in large amounts for fear of being overwhelmed with imperial control. There is also something that interests me other than scared little farmers, the xeno tau are excavating some artifacts from the depths. Residents admit they have had dealings with the filth and the settlers spread rumor of a weapon. I wonder even though they are not under imperial control whether or not we should purge the setters for their treachery to the throne, perhaps they do have some use?

Primary Objectives:

- Find out what the strange creatures are doing with the settlers and purge them and the settlers that are tainted
-Find out what the tau are interested in and retrieve it.

Secondary Objectives:

-Earn the settlers favor as to get more tidbits of ligament information.
-Unearth what 'dealings' the settlers have conducted with the xenos.

Tertiary Objectives:

-Take out the villager's leader as to leave them leaderless so when they look for a leader the imperials can maintain a working base of operations. Try to make it look like an unfortunate accident.
-Take the tau commander alive for interrogation.

Demeanor: Hot-Blooded, rash and impetuous but noble and idealistic.
Chapter Demeanor: The Red Thirst
Description: Raziel is very pale, with shoulder length straight dark hair. Like many Blood Angels, his features are considered to be rather attractive.

I have a picture of him that was commissioned by the very talented Juan Diego Dianderas here.

Personal History: Raziel, Battle Brother of the Blood Reavers Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels, was selected to Deathwatch for his actions defending a loyal world from the Xenos threat. His company was assigned to break through a siege of Orks that had surrounded an Adepta Sororitas abbey. His squad dropped behind the Ork lines and demolished their heavy weapons, before making hit and run raids to disrupt the assault. With the pressure off, the Sisters of Battle were able to rally a counter-attack. With most of the greenskins being pushed back and cleansed with fire and the holy catechism of bolter fire, victory seemed all but certain. However, the Orks managed to deploy a Killa Kan. Raziel's squad leader, Sergeant Turel, lead the assault on the mutant's foul war machine, but was felled by it's massive Klaw. Their melta-bombs already expended on the Ork siege weaponry earlier, Raziel and his squad brothers attempted to use Krak Grenades to destroy the machine but only disabled its cannons. The last of his squad, Raziel refused to dishonor his brothers by fleeing. Taking up his fallen Sergeant's Thunder Hammer, Raziel charged the Killa Kan and smote it in the name of the Emperor and Sanguinius.

Male Blood Angels Space Marine (super-human) Deathwatch Assault Marine, Rank 1

"Their leaders must be in league with the Xenos filth to resist joining the glory of the Imperium. The rest?" Raziel shrugged. "Some will have had dealings of course; there are always those corrupt enough to seek favor with the Alien for short term gain. But most will be cowed by authority, and perhaps even think that their leaders act according to the Imperium. What else could they believe? Were it the Ruinous Powers or Traitor Legions that they had fallen in league with, I would say exterminate them all. The Tau are more easily excised, so I have heard," he opined after the briefing was done. "Atonement may be possible for those who have not congressed with the Alien."

When it came time to select their wargear, Raziel put in a requisition for a Hand Flamer - such a weapon would be useful for clearing the jungle of hiding spots for the enemy, and for purging both the Alien and the tainted.

OOC - in addition, Raziel is going to try to recall what he's been taught about the Tau - a Lore (Xenos) roll?

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

"It is possible that they just do not know any better" Solar interjected, "but you are correct brother, the corruption must be purged. The scope of that purging depends completely upon the extent of the corruption."

"What do we know of this leader of their's?

Who can Solar ask questions about the mission to?

Brother Fabian sat in silence through the briefing. When it was concluded, he finally spoke up.

"What do we know of the enemy forces composition?"

Male Astartes Lvl 1 Storm Lord Librarian

"I agree Brothers; however this could budding colony that has not ripened enough for the High Lords of Terra's liking. Much can be accomplished with nudge in the right direction versus a terrible thrashing. "
Dunmore leans back, spreads his arms slightly wider than shoulder with, and splays his fingers. He looks up at his Battle Brothers, This can be an excellent opportunity to solidify our grasp of this system, acquire future debt from these people, as well as preventing from reaching his goals. We have given much to think on... I will begin searching what archives I can to learn more about the Watch and Imperium's dealings with there peoples.

Need to roll lore: deathwatch or lore: imperium. Tell me which and any modifiers

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

"An excelent point Brother Dunmore. It would be best if we act as their protectors rather than their rulers." Solar nodded
"We should also see if these 'strange creatures' match the profile of any of the species that the Tau Empire allies itself. The more difficult aspects of this mission are the tertiary objectives."

Male Astartes Lvl 1 Storm Lord Librarian

"The ever so suttle manipulation of events in our favor and creating the perfect sequence of events that leads to the capture of the Xenos commander and death of of leader, will be interesting. I suggest a possible Crossfire solution. Catching civillians in combat on the battle has always been a concern war. If such an incident should occur, turning the population to our favor should prove easy."

Leaning forward resting his chin upon his hands, he searches their faces. Dunmore stands and leaves for the archives.

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

"We must be seen to protect the civilians at all times, I cannot abide by purposely putting them in danger. If there is an attack by the xenos then our presence in defending the locals will go a long way to further our cause, but underhanded plots to sacrifice innocents will backfire more often than not, leaving us in the role of that bad guy. This must be avoided at all cost."

Male Zombie Gamemaster

Inquisitor Roth walks into the briefing room his elegant figure never making a sound. " Are there any questions or perhaps requests for weapons or items? Also some quick things to add to the briefing I am coming with you... I would also like to hear what you have decided is the best course of action."

OCC- @Raziel - You are correct that is a lore xenos role
@Dunmore- That is a lore deathwatch and since you are working with precisely documented reports you get a +10 favorable circumstance.

Space Wolf Devastator

During the inquisitorial briefing.
The inquisitors word stung or more accurate annoyed brother Yngvar much like the mosquitoes which plagued the late summer of Fenris. How dared he, a mere man, to speak to the Adeptus Astarsted in that tone of voice? The serene voice in the back of his head warned him the man was after all an imperial inquisitor, a fellow agent of the golden throne. "Very well inquisitor," he threw back as he followed his fellow brethren to the briefing room.

In the briefing room.
Listening to his fellow brothers his heart rejoiced as they seemed to be men of wisdom, contemplating the entire hunt not merely the attack, the joy is somewhat diminished as the talk turns to deception. "Brothers, deception like this is beneath us. We must hunt the alien and their human puppets, doing so will prove the Emperor's might in the eyes of the clean."

Male Zombie Gamemaster

In the briefing room

"However deception does have its advantages and right now those advantages will be exploited" The inquisitor seethed icily to Yngvar. " Do not put your honor in front of your judgment" the inquisitor says to Yngavar like correcting a child. Roth turns to the rest of the kill team and says " I would also like to ask who is going to lead this mission as the kill team leader?"

List your oaths and the wargear you are taking as well as the leaders squad mode abilities

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

"Strategy always involves a certain amount of deception, but it should never be amongst allies." Solar nods in agreement with the Space Wolf
"However, we have been ordered to eliminate the leader and make it look like an accident. This does not sit well with me either, but our orders are just that, orders."
The Ultramarine glanced at Inquisitor Roth, as if to imply that he'd say more if he knew it was in confidence.

"I have some questions Inquisitor"
I'm just going to give you a list so we can get through this quickly
What do we know about the Tau forces makeup? How many are there? How many are warriors? How many vehicles? How many engineers? How many diplomats?
Do the Tau have ships in the vicinity? How are they getting on/off world?
Have scans shown anything of use like Tau bases, dig sites, areas of greater activity?
What, if anything do we know of the enemy commander? Do we have any intell on his location?
What is the traditions of the locals? What do we know about their leader?
Do we have any more details about these strange creatures? Descriptions? Hunting patterns?
How will we get to this planet? How will we be deployed?
That's all I can think of, if anyone has anything else wants to add to it?

"As for capturing the enemy commander some nova grenades and manacles would be of great use. Likewise, if we are expected to engage enemy armour, the correct tools for the job would drastically improve our chances of success."

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1
Da GM wrote:
" Do not put your honor in front of your judgment" the inquisitor says to Yngavar like correcting a child.

Solar feels the Inquisitor has steped over a line here, and plans to deal with it tactfully. Not that others can't blow their lid at him in the mean time.

@Da GM - Can we have a discussion thread for this sort of thing?

Da GM wrote:

Can we come to that after we have come up with a strategy

Male Blood Angels Space Marine (super-human) Deathwatch Assault Marine, Rank 1

Lore:Xenos: 1d100 ⇒ 92 Apparently Raziel was lost in the Red Thirst during the Tau lecture...

"I am not one for duplicity. We are Adeptus Astartes, the righteous sword of the Emperor. Our focus should be on eliminating the Xenos scum from this world. The rest can be considered after," Raziel said, fruitlessly trying to recall his training on the Tau. He simply decided to ask for a variety of wargear that would suit multiple purposes. "As for leadership, I feel that our Ultramarine Brother would be well suited for the task." Brother Solar seemed to be a steady, reliable sort, and Ultramarines were often considered to be natural leaders. Raziel knew that his own temperament would be less than ideal, his eagerness to charge and fight the enemy toe to toe compromising his overall judgement.

"I hereby requistion an Astartes Hand Flamer, a Fire Selector and Red-Dot Laser Sight Upgrade to my Bolt Pistol, Hellfire rounds, Kraken Rounds, Elucidator, Multikey, and Magnoculars."

That should be 80 + 5 points per clip of Kraken Rounds / 100

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

Assuming we're using the errata 1 clip of kraken rounds is 15 points of requisition. The 5 points in the rulebook is a mis-print.

Requisition for pistol clips cost 1/2 price

Male Blood Angels Space Marine (super-human) Deathwatch Assault Marine, Rank 1

Okay, so that's 12.5 points for the Hellfire rounds, and 7.5 for Kraken, so that's 20 points of requisition instead of 30 for 1 clip of each. 3 clips of Kraken at 7.5 each would be 22.5, plus 12.5 for 1 clip of hellfire, equals 35 points of requisition, so that'd be 10 for the hand flamer, 12 for the red dot laser and fire selector, 25 for the Elucidator, 3 for the Magnoculars, 15 for the multikey, plus 35, for a total of 100 points.

Male Zombie Gamemaster

"Brother Solar, I understand your concerns and I regret I can give you no answers... I am currently operating under a settlers word who has reached out to the Imperium. I would have dismissed it as some lie to get our attention, however there have been sighting from rogue traders who come to port that they have seen non-imperial ships possibly xeno ... There is certainly no pattern among the attacks they are all at random ... However I have put together something between the attacks ... Roth motions to a data slate he pulls from a pocket in his robes. " All the abductees are children usually from ages 8 to 14
all the victims who are grown males are usually killed during the struggle ... However the females are usually missing for a couple days before they find the body.... the settler described it as completely butchered and messily too...I still wonder how in hell they identify them though.... Anyway you will be deployed via thunderhawk however it is my personal thunderhawk transport and it has mufflers on the thrusters for stealthe assaults...You will be deployed directly outside of the village...We also have pieced together that the creatures might not all be creatures we might also have the ruinous powers on our hands... I know you may say why have you not contacted the Ordo Hereticus?... They are all blinded fanatics they will burn the entire world without us even figuring out what caused the taint to start...

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

"How well are we prepared to defend against an attack from a Tau fleet?"

After the Inquisitor answers Solar interjects
"Might I suggest an alternative to the option of assassinating the local leader and making it look like an accident, that will not offend the honor of my battle brothers. If we can prove the evils of consorting with xenos to these people and expose their leader as a sympathizer we can have them give him up for judgment. We can give him over into your custody for interrogation."
Brother Selar hopes to sway the inquisitor off a course of path that will come into conflict with many of the members of the squad, including himself, with the temptation of being able to extract inside information from someone who had first hand dealings with the Tau
"If the leader is free from corruption then he can be swayed to back the Imperium without need for deception. Surely our actions in dealing with the threats facing his village can prove him of that"

Suggested Strategy:

Primary Objectives:
1.1 Find out what the strange creatures are doing with the settlers and purge them and the settlers that are tainted
1.2 Find out what the tau are interested in and retrieve it.
Secondary Objectives:
2.1 Earn the settlers favor as to get more tidbits of ligament information.
2.2 Unearth what 'dealings' the settlers have conducted with the xenos.
Tertiary Objectives:
3.1 Take out the villager's leader as to leave them leaderless so when they look for a leader the imperials can maintain a working base of operations. Try to make it look like an unfortunate accident.
3.2 Take the tau commander alive for interrogation.

Plan -
Make contact with the locals and find out what we can about the strange attacks.
Use this information to track/ambush the creatures (objective 1.1)
Use favor gained by this action to learn what we can about the Tau and their sympathizers as well as the village's leader. Hopefully upend some leads on the location of the tau and/or the artifact (objective 2.1, perhaps 2.2)
Bring the fight to the Tau preferably while surprise is still on our side
Uncovering any documents that might hint at the location of the artifact and/or the humans they have had dealings with and/or the location of their own leader. (objective 2.2)
Reevaluate based on all collected information (Objectives 1.2, 2.2 and 3.2)

Obviously enough I'm going to put Solar forward for the job of leader. I've made him as good at the task as possible.

Male Astartes Lvl 1 Storm Lord Librarian

Brother Dunmore closes his eyes pondering the information he has received. He moves along the corridor toward the great fortress's repositories. Upon entry he makes his way toward the section where he believes the information will e kept. Dunmore grabs several tomes and data slates and begins searching.

1d100 ⇒ 59 INT:43+10=53... Just shy

Hmmm, this is proving to be more elusive than I first thought. Many of these tomes are worn and are in need of restoration. Perhaps an Epistolary or Librarian or even a Keeper could assist me

I agree I think we need a discussion thread and I would like to try again if possible. Also I may have missed what our req is for the mission

Male Zombie Gamemaster

@Dunmore- when we get to a place where we can Ill tell you.

The inquisitor scowls and mutters something about limited usefulness he turns back around to face Brother Solar " Fine, as long as I get to shoot something...its my job" The inquisitor remains silent for a moment and speaks " How would we gain their favor is my question them seeing that we purged or left the settlers who were in the strange creatures grasp for dead might not send great signals to them and might even strengthen their resolve in their leader for protection...I suggest since we are trying to frame him...I suggest linking him with the settlers absences and their dead...Then the leader will be of no favor to the settlers and here we are natural leaders of the imperium ready to guide the sheep as their Shepard. "However I strictly prohibit direct affection gains from this mud-dwellers, they only have so many uses and they are the enemy" The Inquisitor recites from a tome "He who agrees with the enemy and cometh as a friend is the enemy"

White Consuls Tactical Marine 1

"Do you truly believe that none of the civilians that have been taken can be saved?"
Solar dislikes this line of thought.
"Your words contradict your briefing Inquisitor. The briefing implies that only a fraction of the local populase is beyond saving, but you seem to believe they are all our enemies."

Male Zombie Gamemaster

"They are our enemies, marine." "If they refuse the light of the Emperor they must be punished, even I did not think you that blind...."
"The villagers the sheep are lead into deals with Xenos by their shepherds the chiefs therefore they must all be purged they all have traits of xeno-sympathizer..." The inquisitor spits the last word out in disgust

Space Wolf Devastator

Yngvar's hand is clenched into a tight fist after the inquisitor spoke to him. His blood flows hard and heavy in his veins as the tone of the inquisitor's words echoes over and over in his head. He manages to clam somewhat down and replies in an icy voice: "Harsh words inquisitor," leaving it at that.

Listening to the conversation he could hear the wisdom in the words and while it didn't sit well with he would obey his squad leader, more so than the inquisitor. "If they are tainted we will purge them, we are not blind. I am looking more towards the hunt."

Brother Raziel a little prayer, would you use bold when you talk, it makes it easier to read?

Can I do a perception check to hear what the Inquisitor said under his breath?

Male Astartes Lvl 1 Storm Lord Librarian

Striding through the corridors Brother Dunmore continues to ponder his studies. I know I missed something there... As he approaches the briefing room he can hear the heated voices of his Brothers and that of the Inquisitor.

So Brothers and honored...Guest, have we come to a conclusion or are you still bickering over purge of the tainted populace. Our orders are to eliminate any that are tainted and the Xenos force. All other objectives are secondary. Brother Solar, you are the most versed in the Codex Astartes, how would your Primarch attack this?"

Male Blood Angels Space Marine (super-human) Deathwatch Assault Marine, Rank 1

Raziel kept his hand from his combat knife at the Inquisitor's slurs against his fellow Marine. "Perhaps we should see the situation for ourselves before we commit to Exterminatus. The Xenos threat is immediate. Let us focus our efforts there," he said, supporting Brother Dunmore. He did not like the Inquisitor's manners, but such sneering seemed commonplace among the lesser of the Emperor's agents.

Male Zombie Gamemaster

Brother solar may take a perception check to hear what he said under his breath but it will be hard(-20)and brother solar can take a tactics check to determine the best strategy

The inquisitor notices Raziel's barley contained rage and with a simple flick of his hand smashes the data-slate. "Remember your place marine and please remember to calculate that I don't need to be superhuman to be deadly " .

Sensing where this might be heading Yngvar steps up close to the Blood Angel and places his hand on the other space marine's shoulder as a precaution. "You are walking dangerously close to our honour inquisitor. Nothing serving the Emperor can be gained from this," he states in a voice close to permafrost. "You have spoken but now would be a good time to leave," he adds.

"I will still be expecting a full performance on our populace matter, marine" The inquisitor leaves his augmentics and servos whirring softly

"This squad will do it's duty with honor befitting the highly values servants of the Emperor that it is made up of" Solar responds to the Inquisitor before he leaves.

After the augmented man has departed he turns to the others
"That man cannot be allowed to sway the decisions of this team. He, in the position of power he holds, is a liability to the Imperium as a whole. If it was not for the sacred bond between the deathwatch and the Inquisition I would have shot him for his slights. As it stands, I shall report his behavior to the watch commander, so that he may be dealt with through the proper channels."
"In the mean time let us talk on our Oaths of the moment."

Fabian shakes his head at the exchange. This was exactly why his chapter where so weary of the Inquisition. "Brother Solar, be assured that I follow your lead. There is nothing that jumped up human can do to sway my position. What he proposes is a slight to our honor. And he shall be dealt with accordingly when the time comes, The Emperor shall frown upon his Immortal soul and cast it to the creatures of the warp." Brother Fabian rose from his seat and walked over to Brother Solar and stuck his hand out for a warriors handshake.

Now that we have come to a close with this nonsense with the Inquisitor, we should prepare ourselves and gear. I suggest coordinating with the Watch's Techmarines and Chaplain. I'm am going to arm and meditate.

Dunmore excuses himself from the briefing and makes his way to the armory. Upon his arrival he requisitions his gear needed for the mission.

Raziel nodded. [bold] "Well spoken, Brother Fabian. Let us take the Oath of the Astartes, and know that we are unified in purpose,"[/bold] he said.

If someone suggests a different Oath, Raziel will go along with it. Once taken, he will go to the armory for the gear he requisitioned earlier.

When you guys requisition what you need from the armory and get situated then go to the landing dock inside the Armageddon that's where the stealth thunderhawk is

Solar sees to his equipment and makes his oaths with his battle brothers. Before going to the thunderhawk he reports what has happened with Inquisitor Roth to his watch captain.

Are we all of the opinion that we don't want the inquisitor accompanying us?

I understand you find him a pain but he controls a lot of influence because he has the inquisitorial position so you cant make the call to leave him behind since it is his ship and inquisitor can pretty much do anything

Fabian left the briefing room seething, on his way to the Armory. His tolerance for the Inquisitor was already on a knife's edge, that exchange with Brother Solar just made him hate this Inquisitor. Fabian Requisitioned what he needed for the up coming mission and then made his way to the Apothecarion to ensure his Narthecium and Reductor were in order and loaded with plenty of Gene-seed vials and doses of Deadlock. He was sure that the Deadlock would come in handy when trying to capture the Xeno's Leader. It may also come in handy in dealing with this Inquisitor, he thought to himself. He took his Narthecium and Reductor and left the Apothecarion in route to his Arming Chamber to gear up for the mission.

Upon leaving his quarters, Brother Dunmore began to check his armor and weapons. Testing each seal, edges of weapons, and racked his bolters. He attached his helm upon his combat belt, and closes his eyes reciting litanies preparing himself for the trials ahead. He enters the hanger, Steel your minds brothers, and let loose your fury.

Grasping his helm, he seals it in place. Lexicanum Dunmore, online!

Raziel went through the Ritual of Armament, checking the modified bolt pistol with red-dot laser sight and fire selector, his magazines of hellfire and kraken rounds, the hand flamer, as well as his trusty combat knife and chainsword. In addition, he secured the multikey, magnoculars, and elucidator to his harness. Once ready, he rejoined the others.

Forgot to mention that he also affixes his jump pack to his armor. He will be wearing his helmet unless otherwise noted.

I also gave you a melta-bomb...

The words seemed to grow harsher between the marines and the inquisitior, so brother Yngvar was pleased at brother Solars words. The Dark Angel's words were in line with the rumours of his chapter, Yngvar stil didn't know what to make of him, that would come in time. "A wise path of travel you have chosen brother," he said to brother Solar before making his way to prepare.

He quickly made his way to the armoury, requisitioning what he deemed mission essential. The reason behind the use of time was he needed much time to pray, the Emperor's guidance would be of the utmost importance, now he subjects were divided. This only left him little time to arm him self afterwards. He shared a single mug of Fenrisian ale with his armour now the two of them would hunt once again.

His heart sang as he stepped into the hangar, the machine spirit eager and the two moved lightly even though the heavy bolther and its ammunition threatened to tie him down. "Brother now we hunt," he proclaimed over the radio before beginning to sing: "And so great Russ brought death to..."
