@Lance: Forgive me good sir but is that the garb of one of the members of the Charter Houses of Xoth Sarandi? I wrote a short paper on the benefits of such places within the empire. It seems to foster harmonious dealings with men such as yourself. Did you find the training hard? I have heard that the rates of attrition are quite high. You must be a very strong sailor and man to be able to complete it. How big of an advantage did you find holding the weather gage to be in fighting on the line? I have read that battles can be won or lost solely on who holds it. She looks at you with rapt attention. She genuinely looks interested. You are not sure if she is really interested in nautical tactics or just interested in all knowledge as a whole.

Er... um... aye, it were hard, to be sure,"I say, flicking my cigarette aside.

Did I say insane? Well, maybe that be a bit too harsh...

In elven...

"Thy speaketh true, lady. I have indeed completed my duties and achieved my papers at Charter House. Yet the goals set before my comrades and I were no more difficult then the will of the gods and the path that they ordained for us. As for the nuances of meta-magic tactics regarding the magi utilizing arcane arts? A good captain must always be concious of the strengths and weaknesses of his crew, and his enemies alike, so that he may defend best his ship first, then his men. For without a ship the men shall all perish. Yet, if I may be so bold; the sharpest blade, the most cunning mind, the most devestating spell... all of it shall pale in comparision to a steadfast heart determined to do the deed at hand. And so it is; for we are each called to this island for a greater purpose, and methinks the deed at hand is before us. Shall we then act on this deed, and move forward with alacrity? If thy would travel with us, I welcome thy company, and seek then to have thee as a companion."

I say the last with a bow, and pluck from my pouch the small earing, and hand it to her.

In elven...

"Perhaps, lady; this trinket shall amuse your companion there. I knew a mate on one of my voyages that had such a beast as this. And the small animal enjoyed the color of gold on his brown fur, for it looked bold and dashing on one so small. Moeroever, it made us glad to see such a beast arrayed, for it brought joy to our hearts to watch the animal arrayed so brightly."

I am currently offering her the gold earing I picked off the villian I shot earlier. She can either give it o the monkey, or keep it herself, but I think that if the monkey had an earing it would make him look a bit more like a scoundrel, and that is not a bad thing.

Turning to Cael:

"We're waiting on the padre to get us grub, but I'm with ye; horses be better then food, if we're in mood fer speed. Oh, and not that ye'll be needing, I warrant, but if ye want it, here ye go... consider it a bit o' a peace offering twixt us. We got off on a bad foot; mayhap that can be ammended soon, seeing as how ye and I may be called on to save the world from destruction, I'd rather have you besides me fighting, rather then across from me, if ye take me meaning,"I say, offering him the Master Work long sword.

Speaking loud enough for those close by to hear him.

"If we are not able to get mounts within the hour, we should depart at that time i humbly suggest. Come sunrise i will still have to perform my observances to Brith and any ground we can cover before then would be a boon."

Sounds like a plan... meantime, as we got an hour for the priest to maybe rustle us up some help... why not be heading down to the pub and get a pint or so? I feel downright hungry, and thirsty for a good drink and the like..."I say.

"Hell, we can get that done in faster then hour, to be sure..."I add with a grin. "'Sides, this town ought to at least owe us a free drink or so... "I add with a grin.

I will leave the Master Work long sword for Cael. If he takes it, cool, if he does not take it, I will bring it with me and offer it someone else.

Germon regards the group. "Indeed I am too famished as I have not eaten much most of the day." Germon pauses and begins to pace a bit as he continues to look in the direction of the mines and then back at the tomb. He then looks to the sword at his hilt and back at Barrett. "However, there is much I wish to know. I will not enter the mines again without company and I really want to know more about this sword. It's qualities elude me and I feel as though I should master it before we continue. Do any of you have any expertise in studying magic weapons or items?"

Male Elf Cleric 2

Darnail's eyes will flicker open and he'll give Germon a considering look.

Without his armor on, Darnail seems very comfortable, sitting cross-legged on the ground and clad in slightly-rumpled but finely made silks of white and gold.

"A thoughtful and reasonable request. I can look at the blade while you get yourself fed if you wish, if you are alright leaving it with me."

Saradel pipes up at the mention of the sword. I do! May I see it? If you give it to her to look over she chants over it for a moment before saying, That is odd. It doesn't appear to be magical. Are you sure it is such? She will then hand it back to you and when you take it start in surprise. Wonder of wonders! The sword appears to not have magic within it but seems to be drawing magical energy directly from you. I have never seen it's like before but...oh my word! This may be made of astral starmetal! It is incredibly rare and there are different varieties. This one looks to be made of the white variety. If I remember correctly it will function in the same way as cold iron against fey creatures and silver against lycanthropes and the like. Her eyes seem to have gotten large as she got more excited talking about it.

@Lance: Oh Mr. Mephisto look a gold earring. What do you say to Lance? The monkey pokes his head out again and looks at the ring...looks at Lance...looks at the ring...then pockets it with the barest of nods of his head in your direction. He then pulls out a miniature pipe made of ivory carved like a human's hands cupping a bowl...lights it and pulls a long drag from the stem giving a contented sigh. He then narrows his eyes at Lance before producing a small leather pouch and handing it to you Lance. Inside you find tobacco but when you smell it your eyes light up as it is none other than Longbottom Leaf! The most expensive and rare tobacco in the world and this little monkey is carrying around a pouch full of it.

Some time later after you have gotten something to eat and finished talking Father Bronson will come back.

Alright gentlemen...and my lady...I have some good news and bad news. The good news is I was able to rustle up some rations for you to get to Saragost. In addition I was able to secure you some horses.

At this point Saradel will pipe up again and say, So what's the bad news?

Father Bronson will respond, The bad news is that I was only able to secure three horses for you so some of you will have to double up. They are big strong draft horses so that shouldn't be too much of a problem but there it is.

I don't know what's to be happier about: Longbottom Leaf... or a smoking monkey!

Germon is surprised by the information Saradel was able to uncover about the sword. "I had no idea such swords even existed. It is good to know what it is capable of. I will be sure to put it to good use.

-----

After hearing what the good father has to say Germon speaks up. "I have good riding skills with such beast and Barrett here is trained well enough to where he can easily keep up. I will ride a horse. I will take someone else as long as it is not Cael." Germon looks at Saradel.

In Elven:
"I would be honored if you ride with me m'lady." Germon says to Saradel

"Good enough, padre... We're not going to be charging about, I reckon, just moving fast to warn the next village over on the way to the capital. I trust ye got these folk here ready to go... and if not, ye don't need our say-so anyhow... best thing for it; ride now and ride hard onwards and warn whatever we can on the way... Which reminds me..."Lance says slapping his head.

"Ye think we can get a formal writ real quick from the mayor with evidence and such that will encourage them on the way and the end of our journey on the truth of our words? I'd be less pleased to get to the next town over and try to convince them of what's what... only to have nay evidence. Having a formal document from the mayor, with his signature on the proof of it, and the town's seal to back it... that be real helpful,"I add, picking out the mayor from the crowd with my eye.

If he is somewhat off-put on what words would be best to write, I happily hand him a "Draft" of what he may say... all filled out and written, and only needing his signature to verify the facts.

I will try to use the most flowery and prosiac and pendantic words as possible to inspire actions in the towns that we are riding to. Naturally, if the mayor can write up a letter that satisfies my needs on the issue, I will accept his letter gladly. But somehow, I got the impression he is not too keen on dealing fairly with us...

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Father Bronson looks at you when you mention a writ and says You can ask but that might do more harm than good in some of the towns yer going to. There's been some tension between us villages and towns for a long time due to the perceived inequality of Saragost's protection and aid. Shouldn't be too much trouble in Lichgate. They have good heads on their shoulders them but them in Lower Scumsgrove may be a bit difficult. They still need to be told, don't mistake my meaning but it may be a bit more difficult than some of the other places. Couldn't hurt just to have on ye but I would be careful who ya flash it to. I'll get it signed off by the mayor and right quick. Y'all need to be off I'm thinkin.

He runs over to the mayor and there is some talk back and forth but the mayor finally rolls his eyes at the good father and signs the document after reading it thrice over. Father Bronson returns and hands it back to you.

Lance give me a linguistics check and I will modify any interactions when you present it based upon how well it's written. If you want to actually write it yourself I will forgo the linguistics check and give you a flat +2 to +4 bonus based upon the writing.

"Three horses with seven of us going ahead is more then "some" of us doubling up Father. Thank you for your assistance. "

Darnail will stand gracefully and look at the others.

"we should be going. The swiftist moving of our group should stay on foot while the rest of us double up."

Darnail will glance appraisingly at everyone.

"If Germon will be riding with ..Saradel, then as the next lightest i will ride with Cael, leaving Slice and Lance while Logarth keeps pace afoot. Let's be off."

i'm not sure if cael or logarth actually have fast movement, so if cael does and logarth does not, then they can swap, but that's what i've got plan-wise.

The Slice pales at the thought of riding tandem with the smoking, disgusting man called Lance.

"Is there not a cart or wagon we can just hitch a couple of the horses to, so we can all ride and carry more gear"?

He will ride with the distasteful man if necessary...but sits way back on the saddle :-)

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Father Bronson says All of the carts are being used to transport the goods and gear of the families that are leaving their homes. No one was willing to part with one which I can understand. It was hard enough getting the horses I could and I am sorry I could not do more. I have faith that you will find a way with the items provided for you.

Saradel eyes the big human warily, he has been very nice so far but to be in such close proximity...Don't be foolish! He is just being polite! I would be happy to ride with you, my lord. Mr. Mephisto glares at you from within the cloud of pipesmoke as if to say, I like you well enough now...but try anything and you lose fingers.

@Lance: No hard feelings put please your might need that dagger more than I.

@Germon: What? Why not me? I'm not that big. Am I? he lifts up his shirt revealing rock solid abs. Guess I have to ride my self or walk

Ok so we have horses, food, people and protection. Shall we go?

"No disrespect from the other lad there... What we mean to be saying is thanks terribly fer yer help... ye didn't owe us nothing, and ye gave us something based on trust, that be a fine thing, and I ain't to forget it..."

I reach forward and shake hands with the good father.

"Well, padre... I guess we'll be seeing you in a few days, when ye and yer folk come riding in to the big city... I'll save a cold one fer ye when ye get there..."I add with a tip of my hat.

"I can't believe I'm saying this... but I agree with the Gaelic lad... let's saddle up and get moving, eh?"I add as I swing myself into the saddle.

You all set off towards Lichgate, uncomfortably in a lot of cases, but you are off nevertheless. The map you have gotten shows that it will take you about 1 day of hard riding to reach Lichgate. Since it is now about 6pm You decide to set off and see what kind of time you can make before the sun sets at 715. The road snakes its way around rocky hills and patches of pine forest. A little before sunset you come to a fairly level ground that looks to be a good place to set up camp for the night. Please let me know what if anything you all wish to do?

I wander a few feet from the party (no more then 30 - 60 feet, or at least, not out of eyesight), to gather some firewood, and bring it back to the group.

Wrapping my body with my seacloak, I do what I can to get the fire started, and begin to set to on some dinner... I pause and look around the group... waiting to see what they are doing.

Male Human Cavalier level 1

Before they depart Germon chuckles and shakes his head at Cael before mounting with Saradel. Upon noticing Mephisto's distaste of the situation, Germon chuckles. "You are indeed a good companion to your friend. Though you are small, I feel you could back up any challenge that threatens your Lady. A true knight in my book." Germon turns to Barrett. "Wouldn't you agree boy?" Barrett barks affirmative.

Germon allows Saradel to ride from behind on horseback and when they finally come to the campsite, help helps her down by offering a hand. He then turns to the group. "I'm going to go on a quick hunt. Hopefully I'll find some food for us." With that, Germon sets out on the hunt.
Survival:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Germon later returns with a single rabbit. "Not much food on this but I can make something from it." He prepares it and offers to Saradel first. "My lady, I would be honored if you accept this humble meal I have prepared." If she refuses, Germon will offer it to the others in the following order, Darnail, Slice, Lance, and then Cael. If no one accepts, he will simply eat it himself.

Male Elf Cleric 2

Darnail will keep himself quiet for most of the ride and the setting up of camp, though he will reply when spoken too. His attention is focused on mulling over what he knows and has learned since arriving here and making sense of what he can for himself. He will give the elven lass several considering looks over the night, but none that last over long.

Finally, he will look around the campsite and smile as if to himself.

"Roughing it. How quaint."

Should the Rabbit reach him in offering, he would take a small amount and thank Germon for it, while suggesting that everyone partake of some, even if it is a small amount.

Barring someone chatting him up specifically, after the meal he will prepare his bedroll and stretch out upon it, listening to everyone but drifting off to sleep at some point.

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

Once everyone winds down, you set watch and fall asleep. During the night you all start to hear that same voice that you heard before when you were brought to the tump. This time though it seems as if it is speaking to someone else. Lance is on duty when the voice appears and you begin to see a strange ball of light glowing in the center of your camp next to the campfire. The ball of light twinkles like a star in the night sky and begins glowing brighter and growing bigger. As you watch you hear the rest of the group begin to stir and stare at the light. You feel like you should be alarmed but you feel more of the peace that you felt when you first reached the Tump. After several moments the light coalesces into a shimmering humanoid figure sitting cross-legged on the ground. His right hands turned upright upon his knees and second and third finger curled with the others extended in a pose of complete serenity. The light begins to fade and you see a man in a simple robe that you don't recognize. A pack lies beside him and you can now see what he looks like. He's around 5'11, 185 lbs, lithe not strong. He has a dark tint to his skin, short cropped black hair and is clean shaven. He has the sharp facial features of someone with who is exceptionally toned without an ounce of fat upon him. His eyes are closed and he seems to be meditating in some fashion. There is a glowing mark upon his body that is fading but not as fast as the rest of the light. You cannot make it out currently.

Male Human Ninja 2

Keeps his meditation steady...his heart beat...controlled...and suddenly he is aware the fire is much louder than it was...he opens an eye...When did I move closer to the fire...? he thinks to himself. He quickly realizes he is no longer where he was, and opens his other eye and looks around.
"Umm...excuse me..? I...err...that is, may I share your fire?"

Saradel looks over and the picture of eloquence herself says ...wow...

Male Human Barbarian 1/Oracle 1

Cael comes from the edge of the forest where he had made camp, mainly to watch over this group that welcomes fights. He walks up to the new, lays a slab of meat of a hand on his back, and positions himself between the strange man and the strange group he has come to call companions.

His Earth Breaker at his side he looks down at the new arrival, Nice trick, we've all done it before, now who you be? He takes a pause and mouths to himself, who you be, then looks over at Lance and says Gods, now I'm talking like you! He walks off and says I am going hunting, Callum, you coming or staying?

"Interesting. It seems that we could be able to get help at future times. Perhaps when the current 'hurdle' is accomplished."

Darnail will nod at the newcomer, relaxing his grip on his blade after seeing the birthsign.

"Take a place by the fire, tomorrow will be a long day of travel. We race ahead to a town down this road, to bring warning of an invasion from below the earth and to evacuate the populace to the capital."

Stretching back out on his bedroll, he will nod once again and then close his eyes.

"Darnail Sunsworn, Servant of Brith. Good eve to you."

Male Human Ninja 2

"Nice to meet you all! So, if I understand you correctly, you were brought here to warn people of an invasion, and evacuate them to a fortified city? And you believe I was brought here to aid you in that?" He nods to himself. "Old Hekaum has a starnge sense of humor, but a journey is a journey!". He'll move to an open spot around the fire and lay out his bedroll. "To answer your question, Lance, I can stay on a horse, if necessary, and I can run fast, but only for short bursts, like during a fight. Sorry, I didn't think to bring a horse with me..." he adds with a grin. "I don;t know anything about any shadow people, but I'll do what I can to help out, my skills are yours to use." He'll lay down on his bedroll and stare at the stars for while, then nod off, if there aren't anymore questions...

Sorry Hamzan I forgot to give you a description of what you heard in your "dream" from the "voice." I'll give it to you here. A voice began speaking to you as if from an extreme distance, the strain in the voice plainly evident. It said that "the time of the equinox is at hand" and that you must "go forth with your brothers and sister to fight the evil that is to come" and "you are special like they are, trust in them as they must trust in you."

Male Human Ninja 2

It's all good! Thanks for the clarification.

The Slice pretends to still be sleeping while this is all going on, but has his weapons in hand ready to spring into action if needed. Once he determines that there will be no combat he slowly makes his way to his feet, resets his spring sheaths, and introduces himself to the newcomer.

"I am called the Slice", he says wincing at the pain in his throat as he speaks. "Welcome". Then knowing it is about time for his watch he sneaks off to relieve himself, and returns to the campsite, taking a seat with his back to a tree, and his daggers in a row in front of him ready to be gathered and thrown when needed.

"The...ok! Sorry if my arrival woke you Slice."

Saradel waits for the others before veritably attacking the newcomer with questions. Hamzan? You said you are from Kahoor correct? What is it like there? I have heard lots of stories but never from the horses mouth so to speak. Not that your a horse of course. No one talks to a horse of course. Except with magic I suppose. Or if you are shapeshifted into one and it gives you the ability to. Or if you have some way of communicating telepathically. But I digress. What is your monastery like? Are there lots of people there? What sorts of "problems" do you "solve"? Is your work dangerous? She takes a long breath and if anyone wants to interrupt her now is the time.

He answers each as they come:
"Yeah?...Yep!...It's no...Huh? Horses can....?...OH...well..it's...theres a few...(quick nervous laugh)...it can be..." (blink blink)

Listening to Starflower go on about questions that don't make any sense, I shrug my shoulder and pull my hat over my face.

Between everyone else in the group, they'll be keeping him up all night talking him ragged. Means that they'll be up, and they don't need me to keep watch... may as well get some shut-eye.

I get as comfortable as I can and let myself drift to sleep, hoping our new 'companion' is comfortable.

Male Elf Cleric 2

Drifting off to sleep again, Darnail makes a mental note to have a chat with the young lady at a near future time.

The rest of the night passes uneventfully, you wake the next morning, have a quick breakfast and then get your gear ready to depart after Darnail, Saradel and the SliceDo you have a spellbook? finish their morning preparations. During this time you are free to discuss whatever plans you wish to make or how you are going to disperse the group upon the horses. You will arrive in the town of Lichgate around 5pm assuming you dont run into any Imperial! entanglements.

Hamzan will wake with the dawn, and do morning exercises quietly, getting ready for the day. As the others wake, he'll don his traveling gear and pack up his camping gear...

I want stormtrooper armor if we do :)

Germon will sleep and then wake. Once breakfast and camp clean up are complete, Germon will once again offer the lady a ride. He wasn't sure how or where the newcomer Hamzan was going to get around. He tries to guide the lightest group of people to ride one horse. Provided that is possible.

Once they arrive, Germon will look at the place with great interest. "There it is my friends. Lichgate. It's best we get to work. We must find the mayor." Germon will move to enter the city.

Perception to take in the sights: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

What does Germon see almighty GM?

Darnail will be much refreshed come morning, smiling more and looking a bit brighter.

"A new dawn is always refreshing." He muses. "The start of a new day, with unlimited potential."

Turning to the group...

"We still need to make haste, yet with the addition of..Hamzan, i believe it was? We no longer can even double up to make use of the horses. Instead we should simply rotate who is riding to help all stay refreshed. I humbly suggest however that Saradel ride the whole time, as a matter of courtesy."

Assuming no qualms with that, and that lickgate is reached without incident...

"Aye, we should indeed seek out the mayor. Also perhaps procure up to five more horses if at all possible. Perhaps trade that sword if you won't be using it Lance? Regardless, the mayor should be the first priority."

1000 posts!! Congratulations everyone! In honor of the occasion everyone gets +1 to hit and damage or +1 to your saving throws for the next 100 posts!

It is a long trying day, swapping horses and taking turns riding takes a bit out of you and as such it takes you till 7pm to reach Lichgate instead of 5pm. The final vestiges of twilight are turning towards night when you reach the town. You have been traveling through farm country for most of the day, with rolling hills and beautiful greenery the norm. You enjoy the moments when they come but always before long a disturbing image of it all in flames when the army comes through dampens any good feelings. Cresting a final hill, Lichgate comes into view a ways off. If there is anything special about it, it is that it is so incredibly ordinary. The town is still several miles off when you hear screaming coming from a nearby farm. There is a deep baritone scream and then the shrill screams of a couple of children. Moving over that direction you see a couple of farmers carrying one child each come running around from behind a barn...closely followed by what looks like a giant praying mantis looking creature! Then to make matters worse...another one comes around the corner!

Knowledge Nature checks for any who have it.

Initiative:
Initiative: Lance 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17; Cael 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8; Germon 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17; Hamzan 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19; Darnail 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13; Slice 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13; Saradel 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14; Giant Insect monsters1d20 - 3 ⇒ (17) - 3 = 14

So order is: Hamzan, Lance, Germon, Saradel, Giant Insect Monsters, Slice, Darnail, Cael
