Yohoho and a bottle of Rep! (subSPUF Skull and Shackles)

Game Master Rynjin

Arrrrrrr, walk the plank, scallywag and all that. This be pirates and so do ye be.

Impositions:

Disgraceful Impositions:

Yes, Sir!: For the next hour, the PCs’ crew completes any mundane tasks they’re assigned in half the expected time. This typically relates to Craft and Profession (sailor) checks made to prepare, maintain, or repair the ship, and cannot be applied to combat or more complex deeds like crafting magic items. Costs 2 Disrepute.

Captain’s Orders!: As a standard action, a PC on board her ship can cast fog cloud, heroism, make whole, quench, or whispering wind with a caster level equal to her character level. Costs 5 Disrepute.

Walk the Plank!: The PCs may sacrifice one crew member or prisoner to grant themselves and their crew one of two bonuses: either a +2 bonus on all skill checks or a +2 bonus on attack rolls. These bonuses only apply while on board the PCs’ ship and last until either the next day or when the captain leaves the ship. If a sacrificed character is returned to life, the PCs and their crew members take a –2 penalty on both skill checks and attack rolls for 1 day. Costs 5 Disrepute.

Get Up, You Dogs!: Every PC and allied character on the deck of the PCs’ ship is affected as per the spell cure light wounds, as if cast by a cleric of the PCs’ average party level. This imposition can only be used once per week. Costs 10 Disrepute.

Despicable Impositions:

5: Lashings!: Your ship's speed doubles for 1 day.

5: Shiver Me Timbers!: While on board their ship, the PCs and their entire crew can reroll initiative or roll initiative in what would otherwise be a surprise round. The benefit of this imposition can be used immediately, but only once per week.

10: Besmara’s Blessings!: As a standard action, a PC on board her ship can cast animate rope, control water, remove curse, remove disease, or water breathing with a caster level equal to her character level.

10: Dead Men Tell No Tales!: While on board their ship, the PCs can use this imposition to automatically confirm a threatened critical hit.

Aren't you already captain? You've been calling yourself Captain Jrahk this whole time.

I don't think it was ever formally declared.

CAPTAIN JRAHK LASERTUSK sounds pretty good to me

Is there a way to change my name as it appears on my posts, not just on the character page?

I was Helmsman Jrahk while Captain Crydic was around, but I never officially replaced him as captain.

You can't change an alias's name once it has 10 or more posts.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Yeah. Unfortunately not an option. You could always make a new alias?

Hmmm...

Male Orc Bloodrager (Primalist) 9 | Dead, essentially.

Ok, we're good.

So, while we're busy with the cheat-off, I've been thinking of upgraded to Necrocraft. I could, with some investment (some potions of cure moderate wounds, a spell of deathwine, and some salt) make the 10 HD version, but that'd also take a lot of corpses.

Rynjin lets you double the HD cost for the purpose of creation to make it count as 1 category larger for the purposes of construction points.

I am really proud of what I've done today.

Male Orc Bloodrager (Primalist) 9 | Dead, essentially.

I thought of another possible explanation for Jrahk's not-entirely-in-character behavior while Charmed.

Not once in his life has he met someone he would consider as a friend. If you are neither useful to Jrahk nor his enemy, you do not matter. The concept of being nice to someone without having an ulterior motive is completely foreign to him. He respects those who are at least as strong and badass as he is, but that is the closest he ever gets to being "friendly".

That's why his behavior was so strange while Charmed - because he has never felt the desire to befriend someone before.

So yeah, none of you guys are Jrahk's friends. Sorry. :(

I'll be going on a camping trip for the weekend starting on friday, no internet. Good luck doing this investigation thing without Jrahk's magnetic personality and untamed charm.

Thank goodness.

I will be gone for the next week or so. This is regrettable, as Ixrul is the only social character in the party. You can bot him.

The spells currently selected are the ones he would prepare every day, unless requested otherwise. Two first-level slots and one slot of every other level are left open - he has fast preparation.

Assume he casts Mage Armor and False Life on himself at the beginning of every day.

Ruh roh.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Just posting a "gimme feedback" post/State of the Union.

It seems like Cube and Dual are the only ones that post for anything that isn't combat (and even then, Cube is sparing with it), which makes for kind of a boring game.

The Carrion Crown game moves a lot faster (ironically) because the group spends a lot of time chatting with each other, which keeps everyone engaged and ready t move forward at any given time.

From Oct 22 2013, we have produced 4574 posts, and gotten to the beginning of Book 3.

Comparatively, the other game has been online since Mar 29, 2014 and produced 4179 posts, and is nearing the last third of book 3.

Granted, Skull and Shackles is more of a sandbox, but that's why inter-character talking is more necessary. This kind of game really relies on a rapport between the crew members since I can't really do much to railroad you through S&S.

I dunno. Are YOU having fun? Would you prefer a different sort of game that's more of a kick in the door dungeon crawl kinda thing, or are you content with how the S&S game works? Is it the characters you're playing, does my GMing suck, or do you just not feel like talking a lot (which is fine)?

I just wanted to get some feedback from you guys on how you think the game should be going forward.

Personally, I've been having trouble keeping track of this latest string of quests. I don't know if Jrahk's illiteracy is rubbing off on me or what, but between the multiple NPCs who want things from us, it just seems like a tangled mess of plot threads.

I'm sure it's not THAT complicated, but it's hard to digest because up until recently, I had just been along for the ride while Ixrul did all the talking and figuring s&~~ out. Once Jay left I suddenly needed to start paying attention, where previously I had been in "why aren't my fingers in someone's eye sockets right now" mode. It's like sleeping through the first hour of a movie and then waking up and realizing you don't understand anything.

I'm actually having a lot of fun with this campaign. I just don't see many opportunities for Jrahk to speak up unless he's barking orders, threatening someone, or yelling about how awesome he is.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

This part of the book is a lot like that fetch quest from Ocarina of Time.

You've already untangled it, so it's pretty straightforward from here.

Get the ring to give to Fitch to track down the Banshee to find the secret to give to the Norgorber guys to get the location of the wreckers to find the wreckers to kill the wreckers to retrieve the Vespal to give to Dindreanne to get info about the spies.

And who knows why she swallowed the fly?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

I can already see this is going to be a problem, Dual. Every time I have to correct you on a wrong rule you end up having to re-do your entire turn.

You can have undead, or you can have summons for any future fight. Pick one.

Hey, pinned is an easy mistake to make - I thought it was equivalent to "held", since, y'know, you can't take any physical actions.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Quick heads up, I'm going to be bringing in a new player after the Brine Banshee bit is done, see if we can't get things running like a well-oiled machine again (and a bit more balance to the party roles).

Cool. What's he/she playing?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

No clue what he wants to play yet. Still a slight chance he might decide he's full up on games too, but he seemed pretty interested.

Probably something Psionic though, since I invited him after he was talking about how he was joining another game just because he doesn't often get to play with it.

Hi everyone. Thanks for letting me join this game.

I am building a psionics character, a tactician. I'm uncertain if I'll try one of the archetypes. How's the hearing with this group? If it's poor then I'll go with the battle medic archetype. From what I can tell, the tactician class is similar to a bard; some spells (aka powers), lots of inherent buffing abilities, decent combatant as a 3/4 BAB class.

A bit about myself; I've been playing pathfinder for about 5ish years now, and D&D for 25 years. I'm both a player and a GM, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

I've never had the chance to play a psionic character before, although my current IRL game that I GM has three psionic characters in it. So I'm definitely looking forward to playing one!

Rynjin and I know each other from the Paizo forums. We frequent a lot of the same topics, sometimes arguing with each other, sometimes taking up the same side. For the most part, we get along quite well, and I'm looking forward to playing a game with him.

It's going to take me a little bit to finish my character, as my time is limited throughout the day and I'm in two other PBP games right now. That's always the hard part for me, though, even though it's fun. :)

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Their healing is spotty. I've been letting them bring along an NPC of their choice (and probably will continue to let you do so) for basic utility and a bit of extra stuff in combat, so you don't need to spec into healing if you don't want to, since Sandra can still come along.

Currently the main classed NPCs someone might want to bring along:

-Conchobar Shortstone, Gnome Bard 7 (specced as a Bard)

-Sandra Quinn, Human Cleric of Besmara 7 (specced as a healbot)

-Arron Ivy, Ghast Alchemist 5 (specced as a Rogue analogue)

They tend to fade into the background unless someone says "I want some healing/pick this lock/inspire me/whatever".

What are the posting rules? Once a day plus once on weekends (the standard)? Or something else?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

I would prefer at least one post per day, yes, though preferably more (getting through a whole combat in one day feels nice). I understand things sometimes slow down on weekends and holidays.

I will generally roll Perception checks for you and just assume you found whatever it is if you can find it on a 10.

I generally roll saves for you as well, but if you do not like this, I will let you roll your own saves assuming you can post within a few hours of my posting.

Use the standard forum conventions for posting. "Bold." for speech, Italics for thoughts, Out of character. for OOC, plain text for actions.

And use your classes/levels bar for your relevant stats.

Normal stuff.

Standard rules. Perfect.

Here's the character I'm working on. Not quite done. Still have a few mechanics to work out, and then to write up his personality and a background. The ideas are in my head, just need the time to type them out.

Meanwhile, I have to go design a resume for my brother in law.

Exit: unfortunately, this is the best I can do for an avatar. There really aren't any good humanoid insect avatars on this site.

Dwarf | Barbarian 2 | Rage 2/2 | HD 2/2 | HP 6/25 | AC 15 | S6, D2, C5, I-1, W3, C1 | PP 15 | Status: Normal | Insp: Yes

So I'm calling this character complete. Don't really have time to flush out a decent background, so I'll try to make up for it with decent roleplaying in game.

Rynjin, care to look over the mechanics and make sure I didn't mess up?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

It looks all right to me, I think. We can work out the kinks in play once the others stop cringing away from jellyfish.

Just wondering, can Odan target Lucy with buffs and stuff while she's raging in spite of superstition? Also, can Kn Arcana ID psionic stuff?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

We already discussed this in the Gameplay thread.

Full transparency in mechanics (Powers are Spells and Spells are Powers for most purposes like Spell Resistance and whatnot), but while Kn. Psionics can identify spells, Kn. Arcana cannot identify Psionics.

M Elf (Undead Army) Wizard (Conj [Tele]) 11 | HP 58/58 + 18 FL | 0 MIs | AC 14 (17+4) FF 11 (14+4) T 13 CMD 18 FFCMD 15 | F +9 R +11 W +13 | Init +12

So Kn Psionics is a straight upgrade to Arcana? Or does Psionics not work for monsters? Basically, checking if I need to add another knowledge to my skill tax.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Psionics is a "straight upgrade" in this case because Psionics as a Knowledge for monsters (of which there are only like a dozen anyway) or identifying enemy Psionics is likely going to be worth dick in this campaign. So I let him use it as Arcana so he's not required to spend skill points on a skill that would be useless most of the time.

Dwarf | Barbarian 2 | Rage 2/2 | HD 2/2 | HP 6/25 | AC 15 | S6, D2, C5, I-1, W3, C1 | PP 15 | Status: Normal | Insp: Yes

It's only really an upgrade in the sense of skills. While Psionics does emulate magic, magic is more powerful. Psionics does not have any automatic upgrades like spells do, I have to pump points to increase the power of my spells (actually called powers).

??? black blade 9| ArcanePool:3| enchant +3| INT: 14 | wis/cha : 10

So, uh, how would a psionic interact with intelligent items?

I can see that the psi-crystal staff seems to have a mind of its own too, similar to a black blade.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Hmmm...I'm going to say Harry can be joined in the Collective if you wish. He is already Telepathic after all.

??? black blade 9| ArcanePool:3| enchant +3| INT: 14 | wis/cha : 10

Okay,I was just seeing what kind of witty banter/observations the two intelligent items can make.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

That could also work, if Bookrat's up for it.

Dwarf | Barbarian 2 | Rage 2/2 | HD 2/2 | HP 6/25 | AC 15 | S6, D2, C5, I-1, W3, C1 | PP 15 | Status: Normal | Insp: Yes

Sounds great! Point of note: I don't have an intelligent object, per se. I have a psicrystal, which is essentially a familiar, just crystalline instead of animal.

Rynjin wrote:

Close! We'll be in Malibu.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

That's the opposite side of the country from Didney Worl!

Didney Lan is just the inferior precursor.

Hey, show some respect. You wouldn't even have Worl if it weren't for Lan.

I always get them confused

I could use some advice.

I'm about to start a fresh skulls and shackles game with my home group. One of our players has been wanting to run it for years.

So based on this game here, I built a character with a strong intimidate.

Our newfound GM believes you can't use intimidate in this game because the crew will just mutiny. He says you pretty much have to use diplomacy or it won't work out. Is this true?

Male Orc Bloodrager (Primalist) 9 | Dead, essentially.

The trick is to be so terrifying that the crew thinks turning against you would be a death sentence.

I have a +10 intimidate at level 1. How's that for starters?

I'll be playing a witch in that game, and will be the captain.
