Lleidr will examine the wall where the message appeared, looking for a concealed or secret door.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
"Some sort of message appeared here, but I couldn't read it, and now it won't show up again. Can you all hear that sound coming from the rubble? At first it sounded like a howl but now it's almost a whisper?"

Lleidr |

Lleidr, i will see you Sat night!
With that roll, I'd be lucky to find my own posterior with both hands!
As for Saturday night...
Stealth: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (14) - 5 = 9
...hunh, looks like you will see me :)

It looks like Lleidr is a ninja, but his player might be a bit clumsy.

Heh, as a 6'1" 240# chain smoking opinionated Southerner who's perpetually half drunk, it's hard for me to be sneaky in real life! The scientific term is hyperapparency :)

Well look at it this way your sneak may suck, but I'm sure your charisma is flying high. Especially with that perpetually half drunk part.

"Can you write down what you remember of the message? Even if you couldn't read the script maybe you can get enough of the pattern that someone who reads the language could make some sense of it."
I didn't describe the shape of the lettering, if you could even call it that. It flashed suddenly and faded fast; the characters were unrecognizable and disappeared so quickly, the exact shape of the is difficult to recall.
However, the lettering, if it was that, bore a similarity to the carven scripts along the walls throughout these catacombs.
NOTE - even though the eastern passage is blocked, there's still a door at the end of the south passage which is unopened.

Lleidr |

"I'm sorry, Ned. They flashed and faded too quickly. Maybe some sort of trap or warning? Possibly related to the noise we can hear below?"
I believe Lleidr's already listened and checked for traps at the southern door, so he'll move down the south passage to it, waiting to make sure the bigguns are backing him up before he opens the door.

Will do it later - will do a Detect magic and try to use spellcraft to identify but for the moment I want to focus on that noise that I am heading towards

[Morning, Catacombs, 5th Day After Goblin Raid]
This strange room is a fifteen-foot-diameter sphere. Several objects float in the room, spinning lazily in space—a ragged book, a scroll, a bottle of wine, a dead raven surrounded by a halo of floating and writhing maggots, and a twisted iron wand with a forked tip. Yet perhaps the most unnerving aspect of the room is the walls, for they are plated in sheets of strange red metal that ripple every once in a while with silent black electricity that seems to coalesce into strange runes or even words far too often for the effect to be chance.

Detect magic and Spellcraft to identify the sword.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
... So a CL5 item or lower is identified

Lleidr |

Lleidr will peer around Jub at the objects spinning in the air. "What could the point of this room be?" he'll mutter. He'll dig out an extra candle and toss it into the room.

ziltmilt |

There is no visible door here, other than the one you're using.
The aura here is incredibly strong, nearly overwhelming to your perception. To your eyes, the room's magical glow is like that of the sun. It's aura type is probably transformative, and explains how these objects can free themselves from the ground. As you all crowd into the room for a look, you notice the earth exerting a lesser pull on any arms and legs protruding into the chamber.
A separate, relatively weaker aura emanates from the wand, evocative in nature.

Are we all in B10 or still in B9? Not sure if there has been a map update or not. I went back a page to find the map I have loaded atm

Nicholae Szabo |

Pull back friends, unless you find some way within - here there is something concrete and mundane - these stairs will take us down to greater mysteries

Detect magic and Spellcraft to identify the sword.
1d20 + 4
** spoiler omitted **
Did this ever get resolved or did I just miss it? I've been waiting and holding off on making an action to see how it turned out, but I haven't seen it yet. If you don't want to go back and find this post he rolled a 16 for a total of 20.

Nicholae Szabo |

It seems like its +1... but if you start muttering 'Precious' and looking at us funny, we're off to the nearest volcano, ok?

Lleidr |

If I'm not mistaken, this is the last area of this complex to explore, right? Both sets of spiral stairs down are blocked by rubble?
Is anyone else interested in trying to recover some of the floating items?

![]() |

I may say a few words of encouragement to it, but if it starts talking back I might need to hand it off.
Does anyone want a new evil ragged book, a scroll, a bottle of wine, a dead raven surrounded by a halo of floating and writhing maggots, a twisted iron wand with a forked tip, or should we just head for the stairs.

![]() |

"I am interested in the scroll, as the other divine among us may be as well. As for the other items, I'm not so sure. On the one hand, this seems like a trap, on the other, it could be a vault that the imp was able to navigate easily due to her being able to fly."

Lleidr |

The book radiating evil and the scroll may have clues. If nothing else, the book should probably be destroyed. The wand is magical, and that's hopefully a good resell. Depending on the age, the wine might also be worth selling. I assume the raven was the imp's familiar?

"What the lady wants the lady shall receive." Hakak then takes a rope from his pack, ties it around Lleidr's waist, wraps the other end around his wrist, picks Lleidr up and football throws him as hard as he can into the red room.
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Lleidr |

Swim Lleidr swim, but avoid the raven, I don't think anyone wants that trophy.
I thought the whole reason you chucked me in here was to get the raven to fill out your trail rations :)

Lleidr |

Lleidr wrote:I assume the raven was the imp's familiar? You saw Erylium's familiar in the cathedral (not sure if I pointed him out). He was very much alive just a couple of days ago. The bird in this room has been dead much longer.
Gotcha. Still don't regret not putting points in animal medical examiner.

So does this mean we have successfully investigated the entirety of the catacombs or can we break through the blocked stairs going down?
